a stranger's bed

As a lead in to September, Riverview's ♥ Month of Romance, this is a completely optional mingle that will cause affected characters to end up in each other's beds. There are various options for both established and new CR. While it's easiest for characters still living in Communal Housing, anyone who has moved to their own homes can be affected and end up finding their way to Communal Housing, or within their own housing.

Residents of the Quarantine may notice that various businesses selling food and drink - cafés, diners, bakeries, restaurants, and other such establishments - are heavily advertising a new flavor that's supposed to be the biggest thing since pumpkin spice. A flavor additive that's said to subtly change the flavor of whatever the diner is eating or drinking to optimize the dish, drink, dessert, or any other food item it is added to for each person's individual taste, it's been selling like wildfire and is the latest trend.

After the cause of the rash of amnesia was revealed to be plant-related, sellers are keeping the origin of the secret ingredient very close to their chests, since it is a derivative of a recently-discovered plant dubbed chameleonis. Depending on the method of ingestion, this additive can have a variety of unexpected side effects, but only once the person who has ingested it becomes sleepy. Methods of ingestion include:

● Ingestion: Beverage: When ingested as a flavor shot to drinks ranging from sodas to coffee to alcoholic beverages, it can cause a desire for closeness to a particular other person. Affected characters end up crawling into bed with that specific other character when they become sleepy.

● Ingestion: Food: When ingested as a flavoring added to a baked good or other meal, it can cause an intense desire for body heat when the character becomes drowsy. It won't matter to an affected character who is providing the body heat, so long as it's someone, and they will end up sleepily crawling into someone else's bed for warmth.

● Inhalation: When inhaled ether from a steaming hot beverage or soup, or as an essential oil or aroma from a bakery, it can cause disorientation when a character becomes sleepy. Affected characters either aren't sure which bed is theirs and simply crawl into the closest one, occupied or not, or become convinced that another character's bed is their own.

Feel free to post up a top-level for your own character either affected and invading a random bed or unaffected but open to having their bed invaded by affected characters, or tag around to other people's top-levels.

Jake Jensen | The Losers | OPEN TO ALL

IN TOWN
[Jensen was getting used to this new homebase that he'd found himself in. It was actually pretty cool, once he got over the surprise of being in another reality, on another planet-- well, moon, and all of this not being a dream. The bruises from the constant pinches were finally fading, and while he was hearing talk here and there about odd things happening here; migratory attack birds, weird instances of temporary amnesia, jumpy time stuff, he was still pretty taken by the fact he was on a fucking moon, able to stare up at a planet the moon orbited. Five years here and he could end up there. It blew his freaking mind.

On top of that, there were just interesting things here; new foods, new creatures (the giant chickens that he'd both wanted to ride and to fry up for the novelty of just how big that drumstick would be), and a lot of very lovely and hopefully available women around. He had a job, a place to bunk, and no one was trying to kill him. If the rest of the crew could be here, this would be damn close to paradise.

And speaking of new food... There seemed to be some sort of sale or event happening, and Jensen wanted to try it all. So he'd be downing the little shots in something to drink, adding it over hotdogs and cinnamon buns, and sniffing it up with vigor, all over a handful of days. Anyone was free to run into him and share whatever he had on hand.]

IN BED
[He wasn't a stranger to having to share quarters with others, so once he was settled down to bed, he'd gotten into the habit of sort of tuning out the noises and movements of any others in the room. He'd even been getting good at ignoring the jostling of his bed when someone accidentally bumped into it.

Jensen was also used to having to sleep with someone, though that usually ran to it being Cougar or Pooch, and it was limited to something close to a puppy pile as their unit would curl together for warmth in some of the colder climates. Survival superseded dramatics over no homo, though every time Pooch had to share with someone, he always had to voice that he was a happily married man. The first few times, Jensen had gone to sleep with a mini maglight in his pocket, angled just right. Even Cougar had gotten a good chuckle out of that.

So if someone were to bump his bed or move him a little, he might just adjust to allow for the space before drifting back off to sleep. Maybe. Depends on how gently someone crawled into bed. At least he wasn't sleeping naked...]

Clearly, I cannot resist.

[ Verity? Totally not a cuddler. A year or two hanging out with giant robots will do that to a girl: lots of pointy edges do not lead one to cuddling tendencies.

[Spike's ability to enjoy something to eat and drink were limited to after the sun set, but that was starting to get to be earlier than when he'd arrived, and it put him in a good mood. Eat, drink, and be dead, right? So he'd be doing all of the above, likely adding his bits of this and that to alcoholic drinks and some tempting kebab-looking thing. He'd lived off worse than street food and this place didn't exactly have a run of food poisoning.

He may or may not pilfer things off people while he's about, so feel free to be angry that some blonde goth looking dead guy stole your beer.]

IN BED
[Spike lived in a crypt in the abandoned city, making his home in the empty cemetery. For those who knew where he lived, finding him there wouldn't be hard, but he'd likely be sleeping during the day. For those that somehow stumbled there? Still sleeping during the day. On a tomb, because he hadn't managed to get a bed in there yet. It was still a work in progress. Anyone looking for a warm body to snuggle with wouldn't be looking here, however. Spike was a little on the cooler side. But he still made a good pillow...]

AFFECTED - IN TOWN
[Seemed being undead didn't make him immune to whatever the additive had been, so he may be skulking around sleepily with a smoldering blanket. If he happened upon a private residence with someone he knew in it where he hadn't been invited into, that resident might find him snoozing against an invisible barrier to their door when they opened it. At least he didn't drool when he slept.

For those in the communal rooms or in ones he'd been invited in... At least he didn't snore.]

Affected - In Town

[Ivar has odd sleeping hours as it is, what with caring for a brand-new infant. He tends to just crash out whenever he has time. It's as he's waking up from a catnap he'd manages to catch when he sees a lump huddled on the front porch of the house he shared with Letha. What the hell...?

He glances out of the window to identify, yes, he does have a blood-sucking monster sleeping on his front porch like a puppy without a home. He opens up the door and prods the black-clad mass with his axe handle.]

Hey. Get up. And what are you doing here?

Osomatsu Matsuno | Osomatsu-san | ota

[being the assistant manager of a coffee shop certainly had its perks. the pay was great, plus Osomatsu got to try all the new flavors and additions before everyone else. he was handling the job okay, but not great, being that he had absolutely no prior experience, and there was still a lot to learn. he'd spent the better half of the first week shadowing someone else.

he was still doing a bit of shadowing when he had to learn new things, but by now, he knew how to make certain drinks. he'd also been informed of the new flavor that they were going to be adding to their drinks, to every drink, and even to the small amounts of food they sell]

...And, lemme tell you! [he's talking to a group of curious customers. Osomatsu's pretty good at hyping things up, his happiness is infectious, and he can be exceptionally charming. whoever hired him seems to think he is managing just fine in this aspect] This new flavor is great! I can't stop drinking it!

[Osomatsu's still getting used to the idea of sleeping alone. he doesn't like it. back at home, he shared a futon with five other grown men, his brothers, and he certainly missed that. so, sometimes, it takes him a while to get to sleep. maybe he should go find Karamatsu and Ichimatsu, demand that they all sleep together.

though, just as he's about to get up, he notices that he's not alone. someone's at his door... can we help you?]

[he wasn't lying when he said he couldn't stop drinking the new flavor. it was addictive, and Osomatsu drank drinks with it added to them almost exclusively. he even ate the baked goods in his shop that had been made with the flavor baked in. but as the days go on, he begins to feel weird. cold, like he wants to be around someone all the time for warmth.

so forgive him when he comes into your bed. he doesn't sneak. rather, he plops down unceremoniously, and shamelessly. cuddles?]

[It's not a bad thing to seek out something warm to sleep against. A heater, a body pillow, a pet cat or dog...

But of all the people to plop down next to while he's actually sitting in bed, mostly inactively dozing...

Reaper was the worst choice. Not only will Osomatsu realise in a few moments that he's going to get absolutely no warmth from this guy--but he'd soon realise it's almost like he lay next to a stone-cold corpse.

There's a moment of silence before Reaper stirs, and while he won't throw Osomatsu off of him...
A set of glowing red eyes stare down at him with a grumpy, irritable expression.]

Haven't I told you off for this sort of thing before? Get off me.

Ginko | Mushishi | OTA

i. i'm not saying it's aliens mushi, but [ town ]

[It's not that Ginko is naturally given to paranoia; when you live life on the road and generally need to buy food and/or seek shelter from strangers, that would be heavily unproductive. This whole set-up is particularly fishy, though; the idea of food that can somehow be individualized to a person's tastes sounds like the exact sort of thing he might come across back home and turn out to be the result of some arrogant fool attempting to turn a profit from mushi, and the timing is such that it's perfect for someone to have unintentionally stumbled upon such a use for a mushi in the weeks since he's arrived and brought them with him.

Unfortunately, he neither has access to records like the Karibusa archives to confirm his suspicions, nor are the shopkeepers being particularly forthcoming with information. So if you happen to be around, maybe you'll witness the world's calmest "argument" taking place within one of these eateries, wherein Ginko gets the royal brushoff every time he attempts to inquire into the nature of the additive (We assure you, sir, it's gluten-free and vegan friendly!), or maybe you're eating something with the new additive and he's approaching you directly--]

Excuse me. That's one of the foods that was being promoted, right?

ii. strange bedfellows [ communal housing ]

[Unfortunately, his attempts to find out literally anything about the additive have proved unsuccessful, thus far. Which is hardly more than a minor frustration, given that he's run into these kinds of roadblocks before when investigating strange occurrences back in Japan, but does leave him vaguely apprehensive.

Eventually, though, he does have to sleep, and as he makes his way back to the Communal Housing building, he finds himself idly thinking about how strange it is for him to be returning to the same place for close to three weeks, now. He's distracted enough by those thoughts that he almost doesn't notice when he opens his door and....finds someone laying in it.



ah.

well. He'll just. ... Cover you up with the half of the blanket you're not lying on top of, and lay down on the floor instead. He generally finds it more comfortable, anyway; he's more used to sleeping in the grass or on a mat on the floor than anything like the beds here. But there is definitely some Explainin' to do when u wake up, friend.]

iii. strange bedfellows part two electric boogaloo [ literally any housing anywhere ]

[Now see, this works both ways. When it comes to the second day of gently badgering storekeepers and others for more information on the additive, he breathes in more of the ambient aroma than he did the first time, and sure enough!!! The disorientation arrives, and he sort of stumbles through the town. Maybe you left your patio door open or didn't lock your shed. Whatever it is, a white-haired one-eyed man has found his way into your home and is sleeping soundly ... somewhere. Maybe your bed, but probably somewhere stranger, like your brand new throw rug. He's very possibly filched a pillow, too, though.

[ He'd already been tired, and the climb up to floor 15 was a long one, exhaustion settling in his bones more and more with each floor. He would have been embarrassed to be practically nodding off after a while were he not so damn tired- this was his floor, right? It had to be, he'd gone up so many floors.

This confidence meant the only thing he initially found out of place when woke up, still groggy, was that he'd apparently managed to wrap himself like a burrito in his blankets instead of getting in bed like a normal person. A moment later, though, as he sat up running a hand over his face, he'd realize that there was... a stranger on the floor by the bed?

He frowns in confusion- he managed to get in the same bed as his were he on the correct floor, so he doesn't immediately realize his mistake. After a moment's hesitation, he kneels to lightly shake the mans shoulder. ]

Hey... are you alright? [ Maybe they'd gotten disoriented? Why else would they be here? (Oh, Akihiko.) ]

OPTION A ▹ HIS BED

[ It might be the first time that happens, or maybe this isn't the first strange visitor Steve gets in his room this week. The notion of sharing a living space isn't entirely foreign to him, but sharing a bed is a whole other matter entirely.

Though not often a heavy sleeper, he might not notice there's someone coming into his bedroom while he's asleep until the mattress starts to sink next to him, or his new company gets a little too close for comfort. However, his reaction will be more immediate if he steps into the room to find someone else fast asleep in his bed, having already made themselves comfortable there. ]

OPTION B ▹ YOUR BED...?

[ Not that he's paranoid or anything— Steve would rather call it a healthy dose of suspicion towards foods and strange condiments and additives he's never heard of before. At most he'll try a small bite of some food or a sip of a drink, which may end up with him crawling back into someone else's bed in search of body heat once he heads back to communal housing, or looking for one specific person for no good reason at all. But more often than not, it's through inhaling the additive that he gets affected the most.

So really, it's a whole lot more harmless when he simply gets confused and makes his way to a completely different bedroom, crawling into someone else's bed while perfectly convinced it's his own. The actual occupant of said bed is free to walk in on him fast asleep in nothing but his underwear (which, to be fair, at least consists of boxers and a sleeveless shirt), or already be in there by the time he crawls underneath the covers.

Welcome him, shove him over the edge, kick him in the face... really, everything is fair game. ]

[ How she managed to get there is something Re-L will have to figure out later. Maybe in her oddly disoriented state she's managed to wander in to a space that's clearly not her own and laid down anyway for the sake of body heat -

No matter how she managed to get there, Re-L seems to be under the impression it's Kirk, come to find some reprieve from Bones (probably said something foolish) - she frowns at his back, for a moment, upon waking, a low grumble rumbling through her as she debates what to do with him. On on hand, it's not the worst thing in the world. On the other, she likes her space quite a bit and this definitely isn't the first time this week she's woken up not by her lonesome. It's with this in mind that Re-L places her foot against Steve and.. promptly pushes him toward the edge of the bed with a fairly steady pressure and pace.

That'll teach him. ]

Angela & Loki | closed

[ Never let it be said that Angela was not adventurous. When the bakery owner said they had a spice which would tailor her pastry to her individual taste, she was curious and opted to try it. It worked, the croissant had captured the exact taste of the bread her adoptive mother, the Angel Loriel, would bake for her growing up. It was a flavor Angela had not thought about in a long time, and she was truly grateful to the baker for bringing it back to her.

The trouble came that night, when Angela tired and prepared for bed. Her own bed in her room just felt so empty and cold, and she tossed and turned for long hours before she finally realized what it was she was craving, and what the obvious solution would be. By this time, her brother and roommate was already asleep, and so she is careful not to make any noise as she lets herself into his quarters and slides into his bed next to him. ]

[ Loki tenses immediately, his eyes flying open. He searches for an intruder before he realizes who has slipped next to him. Disbelief filters through his expression, but he does not seem . . . annoyed. If anything, the tension quietly cedes away. ]

Sister?

[ It is the first time Loki has ever truly called her such. He has always sidestepped it in a charming way. ]

Karamatsu Matsuno | Osomatsu-san | closed

<sub>[ Having lost a lot of things in the fire had Karamatsu wandering the streets for awhile and staying with the people he could while his floor got repaired. This made him go back to the same ole bars that he had been to before and try this new kind of drink. Of course, he loves it, and of course like any other alcoholic beverage, he feels the effects fast. He's got one person on his mind right now— and that was his rescuer, the man that saved him from the fire and he knows exactly where he's at.

That's when he sees a familiar face— the girl by the fountain that he helped get a present for— sitting by the window and just invites himself over, sliding the chair back from the table and slapping his hand on her table to get her attention. [ The slap does get her attention, not with a start, but with a curious glance. Does she know this guy...? As he looks away, though, it snaps into place. She does know this guy. She still has the jacket she claimed from him.

She takes a second to glance in the direction he's looking, fails to spot whatever it is he's looking at instead of her, and shrugs it off. She remembers he'd been odd, as far as humans go. ]

That's true. [ She even offers a smile for the compliment. She is dressed nicely, thank you for noticing, in a sleek black dress and heels just high enough to look good, but not so high as to be difficult to move in. And her favorite bit, the necklace of tiny swords crowned by a small glowing orb. It's not a particularly beautiful piece, but she likes it. ] Did you come to add more to it?

His Bed:

Draco had gone to bed as usual, though exhausted from all the changes he had to get used to. It was a strange place full of strange people. He struggled with himself every day and still slipped up. He could tell, and a part of him feared that. He had a true chance to start over here. He had to take it and run with it.

That was hard to do, though when he had moments where he was reacted and spoke without being aware. Being on guard constantly didn't help his level of exhaustion. And so he returned to his room and fell into bed, asleep soon after his head hit the pillow.

His sleep was so sound that he didn't wake up the moment he was joined, but with being so used to having a bed to himself he eventually was roused by the strange feeling and warmth of another body next to his own.

Grumbling as he was slow to wake from the depths of sleep he tried to evade the warmth and comfort of another in his bed.

Your Bed:

It wasn't that he was particularly cold. It wasn't even like he ever really desired to just simply lay with another before. However, he was exhausted from adjusting to the changes and keeping ever on guard. And he just wasn't warm enough. He wanted…

Draco just needed another. Needed something he didn't quite understand. Drowsy as he was, Draco didn't know or care where he went. All he knew was that he found it. His clothing being systematically stripped off until he was in his boxers. He rarely slept without at least pajama bottoms, but it didn't matter now, because he was slipping into the bed and pressing right up against another body whose warmth would keep him comfortable. A sigh left him as his tired eyes closed with an arm snaked around the body before him, pulling the warmth firmly against his body.

Jamie Dodger | OTA

[Dodger's not a happy man on his own, and never has been. It doesn't matter who he's sharing a bed with, but being left alone with his thoughts is dangerous for him and he knows it... and he's been alone with his thoughts almost every night since coming to the quarantine.

It's nights like these, when Khisanth is busy doing Khisanth things and he has failed yet again to get anyone to sleep with him, that he ends up having to actually think about where his life is headed. And... dear lord, is he not happy about it.

And then a stranger crawls into his bed. He must have forgotten to lock the door... but whatever, he isn't knocking it. Hopefully they don't mind that he sleeps in only boxers.]

[Dodger isn't a picky eater, so this new additive doesn't do much for him - he doesn't taste his meals enough to really notice. But that means between all the coffee and whiskey he's been going through, all the food he's eaten and all the fancy flavored tobacco he's been offered as samples - fuck, he's even pretty sure it somehow made it into the heroin he's been smoking - where he ends up at night and why is a complete toss-up. And he doesn't make a single move to stop it.

Maybe today he's feeling unnaturally cold, and can't seem to heat himself up with his newly-regained fire power. Maybe he's too high and too disoriented to make his way back to his flat, and ends up crawling into a bed he doesn't recognize. Or maybe he just plain misses someone's company, and this is the best way he can think of of making that clear. Either way, he's a creature of impulse - if he gets it in his head to curl up with someone, he will do so. Whether he bothered to take off his clothes or even his shoes is equally hit-or-miss.]

[He vaguely remembers getting Eichi's address in a text when he'd gotten out of the hospital... a silent invitation he hadn't made good on, because too much had been happening on his own side of things. But currently, he gets the sense he won't be sleeping without someone else there with him, and if it's Eichi... well, two birds with one stone.

He doesn't announce himself - in face, he just teleports into the house, taking a few educated guesses to find the room Eichi is sleeping in. Stripping down to his boxers, leaving his clothes unceremoniously on the floor, and crawling under the covers at the foot of the bed so as to not disturb the idol too much. Which means he's effectively announced by the feeling of Eichi's covers lifting up, followed by his warm body heat on top of him and the cold touch of two necklace charms touching his neck. Hmm, wasn't there only one before?]

In your bed

[Ivar is dead to the world when Dodger crawls into his bed. All he registers on a subconscious level is that there's a new source of warmth there. He naturally curls up towards it.

When he's finally awake enough to register that there's someone not Letha-shaped in his bed, his first instinct is to grab the knife from under his pillow, and that's even before he realizes that it's Dodger. When he does realize that the greasy vagabond has somehow ended up there, he's tempted to slit the man's throat, and does run the cold edge of the blade along his jawline, anticipation growing within him.

But that would be too quick and easy. When he kills Dodger, it's going to be long and slow. Instead, he goes a lot lower with the knife, sticking it right up against Dodger's groin. If he so much as twitches, he's losing his favorite body part. Then Ivar whacks him hard on the shoulder to wake him up.]

Do you mind telling me what the hell you're doing here, getting dirt on my sheets?

Dave Strider | Homestuck | Open af

Your Bed (inhalation):
[Dave is his own heat-seeking missile as he makes his way home. He's seeking out his own bed, empty as it may be, because he's not afraid to conk out in it. He's rapidly losing focus, his head is filling up with a warm, foggy feeling that makes it hard to carry on.

Before he even realises it, he's taking himself back into communal housing and aiming himself toward wherever his bed used to be. Whether he actually makes it to his old bed is up to fate, apparently, since he's just stumbling around like he just worked the graveyard shift. If there's a person shaped lump in the bed, it doesn't deter him from ripping open the covers and slipping in like he owns the place.]

His Bed (food ingestion):
[Having made it to bed, despite an overpowering desire for body heat and warmth, Dave commits himself to sleeping. It takes him a while, sometimes an hour or more. He might still be awake when you sneak in, he might be listening to music with headphones or he might be staring at the ceiling. Either way, he doesn't protest the company as much as he probably should.

If you catch him while he's asleep, it might not look like his slumber is particularly restful. Dave twitches, grunts and clenches in his sleep and it doesn't seem like he's having a good time. If you wake him suddenly, it might startle him before he gathers his bearings. If you take a slower, more cautious approach he might slowly come around with a long exhale and a tired, squinty stare. He doesn't wear his sunglasses in bed, for obvious reasons. He looks a little exasperated.]

[Ed is already asleep by the time Dave shows up, when the covers are pulled back he hunches closer in on himself at the sudden chill but otherwise doesn't stir. His back is to Dave, long hair spread across the pillow and bed, as he generally sleeps with it loose. Although his automail is covered to prevent the cool metal from being a disturbance, two of them are still obviously artificial. By now he'd sort of come to expect this and he'd already been woken up for daring to have a cold arm, so he wasn't about to repeat that process. So much for keeping it a secret from strangers though, if just anyone was walking in like they owned the place. So far, Ed had been lucky that he has at least met the people arriving in the night, but how long would that last?

He doesn't seem to mind the new presence, in fact after some time turning in his sleep and burrowing closer to the warm body there.]

Around the City:

Ed hadn't thought much of going out for a bite to eat that evening. Agreeing to try whatever new ingredient the waitstaff was absolutely raving about if only to get the sales pitch over with. Although it hadn't cost anything extra and he couldn't deny that it was good, someone like Edward should have been more skeptical of a situation like this one, especially so soon after the disturbing events of the plants no longer inhabiting the city. Although he hadn't felt the full force of the amnesia, he certainly knew it hadn't been quite such a pleasant experience for everyone else.

Before the week was up locations all over the Quarantine were using this ingredient, not just as an optional add on but as a necessary part of any specific recipe they might be offering. The most alarming thing was that no matter how many warm beverages he drank or layers he piled on, he couldn't quite escape the chill that was oddly out of place in late August. Feel free to bump into him around the city before he retires for the night, possibly with a cup of the culprit in hand!

If the person in his bed is lucky, Ed's been drinking some of the new ingredient and by sheer coincidence finds himself perfectly content to share a bed with the exact person that found themselves in his at that moment. He might shift to get more comfortable, but other than that he's not going to mind the presence of someone he's been somehow craving the presence of that night. He's also not going to bother questioning that feeling, considering he's too tired at the moment to put thought into it.

B.) Alternately, Ed just doesn't care. Whoever it is doesn't matter because they're warm and he hasn't been able to shake this chill even if he does keep himself nearly fully covered even in bed. He'll be shifting closer in his sleep and one might find him actually draping an arm over them to encourage the new warmth present in his bed. How they react to Ed's sudden apparent new clingy behavior might be another story.

In Bed

Edward may not be too keen on living off of this new ingredient, so he certainly doesn't spend the entire time affected by any sort of influence. Most nights he finds his way back to his own bed without any issue, blissfully unaware that he might wind up with company sometime after falling asleep. His reaction to said company would vary by who it was, and how he's feeling in that moment but overall one can imagine finding him very flustered. If you're there for body heat, just remember to watch the limbs so that it doesn't backfire on you!

Overall, Ed is used to sharing a bed with others, it wasn't exactly something one could avoid in Attollo and even in Purg if the weather was bad enough body heat may have been the only option. Ed might not even register another body in his bed right off, because it wouldn't strike him as odd until he woke up and realized just where he was and why it was strange.


Coming Home:

After a long day Ed finally manages to get back to the communal housing. Beyond ready to crash for the night (seriously, what were they putting in those new recipes?) Ed moves across the floor to his bed, only to find out that it's already occupied. The question now is who was there, why, and was he tired enough not to care and just climb in next to them?

This has been a weird week. At this point, Ivar's just sort of accepted the inevitable. Either he's going to have someone in his bed or end up in someone else's bed. Ivar doesn't really know how he ended up crawling into Ed's bed, but he doesn't care. Once he's there, he curls up around the shorter man, and falls into a deep sleep without so much as a single word.

Perhaps because of the unusual limbs of his bedmate, he finds himself dreaming of being in a blacksmith's shop, hammering out armor and weapons. He rolls over in his sleep, restless after the loss of his girlfriend mere days ago.

[ Hana was exhausted. After the mess with the fire earlier in the week, she and Genji had decided to move forward with their plan to move out. Hana was beginning to get irritated at the near-constant lack of privacy and while her roommates were mostly nice and wholesome, she definitely needed space. Plus the fire certainly didn't inspire much confidence in her about the stability of the building in general. And so in the days following, they had spent whatever free time they could match up between shifts for the Guard looking at other places.

Hana was definitely the pickier one between the two of them.

So she was tired, more than she usually would be at an odd hour of the night, when she finally returned back to the tenth floor of the communal housing building that night, and turned in at an earlier hour than she normally would, her body still feeling some residual exhaustion from the night of the fire.

And it would almost be a good night's rest, until at some point in the night, when she rolls over and drapes an arm and a leg across the warm body next to her—

[ Okay. The other night was weird. Somehow Jason had ended up in her bed, which she supposed wasn't really that weird on its own, but what made it super weird was that other people seemed to be having problems with winding up in other beds, too.

She really ought to move into the place she and Genji had picked.

But... It didn't have the Quarantine's equivalent of a high speed fiber connection set up yet and... she needed that...

So she delayed in moving out of the communal housing. Surely finding someone in her bed wouldn't happen a second time, right? ]

[When strange things were happening in town, a strange occurrence happening a second time probably wasn't as odd was one might think. Then again... strange things happening because of strange things? Could be double strange. Either way, Keith had been influenced into ending up in other people's beds that night.

Hana drew the proverbial short straw... or long straw. It all depended on your point of view in regards to Keith and having him in your bed. Because that's where he was. In her bed. Next to her. Sleeping. With an arm draped over her waist.]

[ Loki isn't sure when it happened or how, but at times, he finds himself randomly crashing at Taako's place. Perhaps it is something akin to trust, though Loki avoids scrutinizing it deeply. Instead he looks over the drinks and desserts Taako has seemingly whipped out of thin air. His stomach curls at the sight. It is . . . a little disappointing to have made progress on this front and suddenly find himself back to square one. Loki isn't sure he could look at peanut butter the same way again.

Out of spite, he grabs a drink and settles himself on Taako's couch, sprawling. ]

[ Loki doesn't sleep easily. His dreams tend to lean towards darker inclinations, of blue hollowed moons and faceless aliens that reach out with clammy hands. Or the blurred light of stars as he falls through the Void. His throat clogs up as he screams &mdash

— and there is someone in his bed. Quick as a flash, Loki straddles the person, seizing the knife from under the pillow and placing it under the person's throat. ]

[There are a few things that have become routine for Taako, and he appreciates them for what they are, but whatever this thing is for Loki doesn't quite fit, because Loki doesn't seem to follow any sort of schedule aside from his own.

Regardless, Taako enjoys their occasional adventures in chilling on his couch drinking and eating.]

[That's using the term loosely, considering his current "art" is a small dish full of truffles that he made earlier in the week, to go along with the plate of cookies that's already on the coffee table.

When he makes his way back into the living room, he sets the plate down and then idly nudges Loki's ankle out of the way so he can claim a seat on the other end of the couch. He knows that it's highly unlikely that anyone would be brave enough to be quite so casual with just shoving Loki around, which is exactly why he does it.]

What's the hot goss, bubbale? Those stupid superheroes of yours been behaving themselves?

[The Marvels don't like, belong to Loki, but he's is really the only one of them that Taako is close with, so he considers them to be 'Loki's'.]

[ There's something strange about being alone. Not just alone physically, but cut off from his galaxy. No longer being able to reach out to the web of Jedi spread across the distant planets, their unique signatures twinkling in the dark. He has never been alone like this before. He has always been with someone, whether it was Anakin, his old master Qui-Gon or another Jedi.

He doesn't like it. Obi-Wan knows it is silly. Jedi do not form attachments and every moment he chafes is a moment that marks him as a failure. So he finds himself drifting to the closest bar with a closed-off smile. He turns to whoever is closest to ask a question. ]

What do you recommend around these parts?

[ Obi-Wan shifts uncomfortably for a while. It has been some time since he's had to sleep on a bed. This feels like a luxury he appreciates but hasn't quite earned. It is softer than the beds at the Temple. Then something twinges in the Force. Obi-Wan opens one bleary eye as someone enters his room and promptly curls up on his bed. Next to him.

Well then.

Obi-Wan rises a little from the bed, giving the person next to him an amused glance. ]

Did you get lost?

[After a long shift at the hospital, Beverly wants nothing more than to curl up and go to sleep. She doesn't even stop by her regular coffee shop on the way home - though she can't help but notice the enticing aroma drifting out the front door. She stops for a moment and sniffs. Must be some sort of new spice. Pumpkin-chai-whatever. Leave it for the morning.

She doesn't even notice when she pushes the wrong button on the elevator or when she steps out into the wrong communal room - she barely knows her floormates anyway and besides, people are always moving in and out. All she knows is that finally, here is her bed, safe and warm and-

There's a man in her bed.

She lets out a surprised yelp and quickly scrambles back out of bed, dragging the covers with her, as if they will protect her from uh... whatever is going on right now.]

[As per fucking usual, it's been a quiet month followed by a real shitty week, and Taako kind of maybe hasn't slept for the past few days because he hasn't really gone home for those days and he hasn't wanted to actually like, ask anyone if he can crash at theirs. But - whatever, it's not a big deal, just that he's a little tired when he swings by the communal housing to check up on the few people he knows who are still slumming it. The fire was a mess that seems to have mostly been cleaned up (with little help from him, because he stopped caring once he knew his friends were safe).

He'd wandered past one of the bakeries trying out that new additive, but hadn't thought much of inhaling the steam from the baking bread, just made an idle note to check it out later and see what all the fuss was about.

Right now, he's assured himself that Magnus is doing fine and is planning to maybe head back to the place where he lives to get some rest, especially he yawns so hard something in his jaw creaks.

So he does - he goes to his bed.

Or, well, he thinks he does, not really considering the fact he's still in the communal housing, moving through a door that's locked but easily passed through on the ethereal plane. He has the presence of mind to take off his shoes at the door, but not to register the fact he's still in his clothes, rather than his pyjamas.

He does notice another figure in the bed, he just assumes that it's Lup and doesn't give it a second thought as he climbs on in.]

She's not sure where Lup and Taako have disappeared off to, but she's more than happy for the company, as before this her plans had consisted of putting together a plate of leftovers and pouring over some notes with a glass of wine later on. Company vastly outstrips this, and even more so when it's Beverly, who always has something interesting to talk about.

Lucretia isn't sure what kind of drinks she prefers, but thankfully they have full, unadulterated access to Taako's wine cabinet so they should be able to come across something the both of them can agree on. She sends a quick text to Beverly to remind her of the address, and adds:)

Come in when you get here! Door's open.

(Because she's going to set about trying to put together some food for the both of them. She doesn't want to have to rely on Taako's leftovers, but at the same time she absolutely will if things get dire.)

Shortly after he's polished off his drink and pastry, a funny feeling sinks in. Suddenly he's tired, comfortably tired, but kind of cold. He's sinking into seats next to people or standing as close as he can to them.

Once he finds one, he stands over it for a moment as if questioning himself before he removes his shirt and shoes and suddenly encompasses the lion's share of the bed.

And yet still she'd found herself standing above a bed with a suspiciously large other form in it...

Tony's sleep habits had never exactly been what anyone would consider normal, and the upheaval of the past couple of weeks hadn't helped. He worked himself to exhaustion on a regular basis, only climbing into bed when it absolutely couldn't be resisted anymore. The only reason he found his way back to the communal building rather than just dropping off in his workshop was that he hadn't actually managed to find a sofa to put in yet.

It meant that when he did sleep, he slept like the dead. Enough not to even twitch when someone settled in next to him. Though eventually, without his conscious mind to hold it back, his more tactile tendencies might have taken over long enough for him turn over and curl into the unexpected body heat.

Closed to Wanda

So Tony hadn't been sleeping well. It probably hadn't been the best idea to head to brunch anyway, considering the champion-level fussers that might also have been there, but he'd gotten through without being prodded too much. And it had been nice, it had been fine, and he just settled onto the couch for a moment as the others started to drift home. It was just for a moment. A very comfortable moment. He'd just close his eyes for a second.

When he blearily forced his eyes open again, Tony had somehow managed to wedge himself into the too-small sofa, feet hanging off the edge, and a blanket had managed to drape itself over him. If that wasn't confusing enough, there was a line of small, fuzzy faces watching him intently from the sofa arm. Faces that promptly broke out into cheers as they saw him shifting.

So, still dreaming then.

[ Loki's head was pounding. Or, more accurately, all the usual thoughts and cyclical paranoia seems to be draining away, throwing the rest of his mind askew. He can barely see straight, stumbling through the doorway. He has never felt so exhausted, not since he fell from the Bifrost. It was a fatalistic calm that wraps around his heart with a silent squeeze and has him toppling into a bed. He burns hot and cold or perhaps it is all his mind. Or there is nothing in his mind. The fears seem to have drowned in the alien nothingness. ]

[ most of the time, when nico's not working, he keeps to himself. he's been doing that a lot lately since regaining his memories. not wanting to think about how his sister is dead, how he'd been in love with a boy who would never love him back, and how he'd walked through the deepest pits of hell only to be captured by monsters... it's all enough to drive nico to look for a distraction. he soon finds it in a café where he orders himself a cup of coffee. not wanting to worry about sleep, he quickly downs it and orders another, not even thinking about how it might later affect him... ]

This is the worst coffee ever. Is it decaf?

[ it starts as his nightmares normally start: with misery, the goddess akhlys, laughing in his face. then come the arai, cackling as they insist he would suffer. the black pits of the surface of tartarus open up before him, and he keeps walking, pausing only to take sips of the burning fire river next to him. but of course, it eventually shifts.

now it's a boy with dark hair and eyes like the sea, glaring at nico as he tells him to leave. inside, nico's heart is breaking and he can't breathe. but that's not the worst of the dream. it's the way the walls around him begin to shrink until he's trapped in a bronze jar barely big enough to contain his crouched form. time is running out; there are marks on the wall of the jar. the walls continue to close around him until it seems he can breathe no more.

that's when he wakes with a strangled scream, bolting upright in bed. sorry to the person he's sharing with. this is why he avoids sleeping in the communal area as much as he can. ]

[Marco barely remembers crawling into the bed. He'd eaten something with that popular new flavour in it around lunchtime, thought it was overrated, and then went on with his day without much thought. He had it together enough to realize when he started feeling drowsy and that drowsiness came with an intense wave of feeling cold and wanting to snuggle up with another person, that it probably has something to do with the weird ingredient.

Unfortunately, knowing that doesn't really change anything. He's still cold, and still overwhelmed with the urge to crawl into bed with someone else, and he's still disoriented enough that he ends up on the wrong floor. At least when he climbs into a bed, he takes a moment to make sure it's with someone he knows.

When a scream wakes him up halfway through the night, he sits up, gasping, dark eyes going wide. Marco's always been a light sleeper, but it was only during his time as an Animorph that 'light sleeper' started to come with a side of 'immediately alert and ready to fight.' It takes a few moments to re-orient himself, to remember where he is and that he's not about to be attacked, and then he's turning, blinking blearily down at the guy he's sharing a bed with. Nico. It's Nico.]

Nico...hey man, you okay?

[Reaching out, he places a hand on Nico's shoulder and rubs a bit, careful, his voice bleary and a little muzzy.]

You're safe. It was just a dream.

[While normally, Sleep was something that Reaper did while either sitting up or completely on guard, thanks to spending a little too much time out and around the places where this odd new plant was being cooked and mixed into drinks...

It was odd, actually feeling tired to an actual measurable degree. Even odder was the idea of falling asleep in a place where he could be seen, stretched out on his side and dozing lightly, unguarded for the first time in weeks.

It's only when he shifts to roll over that he notices there's a little bit too much tug to the blankets closer to his feet. Which, all in all, is enough to have the wraith sit up in confusion as... he looks down at the person(?) curled up at the foot of his bed. A pair of cat ears folded back, a tail...

He blinks those oddly haunted-looking eyes of his once, squinting in the low light...

Is that ... a person, or a really big animal? He honestly can't tell, so he's just going to give it a pretty hard nudge with a foot.

Maybe he should reach for his gun, instead...]

[Ichimatsu was so used to not having any money that the fad-flavor craze just about went entirely over his head. He seemed to be largely immune to a lot of things Riverview liked to throw at him-- the fire in the communal housing left his room untouched, and even though he had money he'd pretty much forgotten to get something with this weird new additive in it. Unfortunately, that didn't make him immune to the fad-consumption of others, and the whole of most populated areas had a very dull scent to it that made his nose curl. Given he was in a relatively constant state of somewhat drowsy due most prominently to straight up sucking at sleeping like a healthy human being, it also pretty immediately meant he was lost from the plant's essence disorienting his already minimal sense of direction.]

[He supposed it was autopilot that sent him to Reaper's space, since it was one of very few places he ever went and he wasn't especially enchanted by the idea of being anywhere near his own room or either of his brothers', but he had no real idea of what he'd crawled onto except that it was soft and vaguely warmed by the body in it. Not that he had any presence of mind to register there was, in fact, a person in the bed he'd crawled onto the end of.]

[The foot nudges him nearly right on off the bed and he yelps, the sound startlingly feline, and springs onto his hands and knees, the tail extending from his spine poofing outward to at least three times' its usual size. It takes him a solid few seconds to stare at Reaper before anything even remotely makes sense, and his tail remains at a startled state of possibly-electrocuted even as he oozes back to settle in a loaf crouch.]

He reaches up to confirm his suspicion - although he doesn't know who else would get into his house at this time of night - and his fingers meet with the bristle of facial hair. Reassured, he buries his face in Stephen's shoulder and surrenders to sleep once more.]

[ Should you find your way to Dick's apartment in housing, you'll find his bedroom spare and devoid of distinguishing features, mostly because he's been using it more as a safe house than an actual address since he took custody of two preteen boys and moved across town.

But he'd held onto it for a reason, and tonight he's calling it in, opening the window from the outside and stumbling into the room at around 4am. He's exhausted and probably affected by whatever was in that cake, and it shows in the loose-limbed way he moves, peeling off mask and suit and crawling into bed without much heed to whoever else might be in the space. Clearly with the expectation that he'll be sleeping alone. ]

[ Wherever your bed is, you'll find him there probably at an odd hour, in loose boxers and an ugly T-shirt, sprawled face-down across the top cover with all the careless abandon of the chronically sleep-deprived. Good luck waking him. ] ]

Huh. In the murky light of the godling's room, he rests the chilled side of his bottle on the back of Dick's neck and waits to see him get even more tangled in all those expensive fur blankets.

Loki sways where he stands in a tee and slacks, already drunk enough not to care about this newest addition. ]

His Bed

[For all he generally looked like a disaster, he did like the finer things in life. The bed was a huge, four poster thing, but definitely comfortable. Who even knew how someone got into the place, he must have forgotten to lock up the wards, but either way he was out like a light, curled in a swath of heavy, warm blankets, with a small Lillipup curled up behind his head on one of the pillows.

Anyone who’d lived in the community housing with him would recognize the quartz and metal medallion hanging off the headboard, and if they had any magical aptitude they’d notice that it was to nullify sound. Granted it was to nullify sound escaping the circle and not the sound coming in, which was odd.

And Stephen must have been exhausted if someone clambering into bed with him didn’t get a response. Wong just lifted his head, ears perked, blinking sleepily at the intruder. Someone to give him pats?]

[Was Stephen even aware that this wasn’t his bed? Probably not, as dead on his feet as he looked. Not that he really cared either, it was there, it was comfortable looking, and there was someone already in it to curl up with.

At least he tried not to jostle his unwitting bedmate awake when he slid under the covers, arm looping gracelessly over them with a low hum of contentment.]

[ Loki was really starting to hate Riverview. Which isn't true, but Loki despises elements that interfere with his ability to function. He can barely think straight and all his careful defenses have started crumbling. Loki could feel it happen but he can't even muster up the strength to feel irritated.

There's a bed nearby. His vision blurs as Loki crawls onto the bed, curling into himself, his breath coming out in short cold puffs. ]
