player-suggested mini-event: A STRANGER'S BED
what: Player-Suggested Mini-Event
when: August 26th - August 31st
warnings: please put any necessary warnings in the subject lines

As a lead in to September, Riverview's ♥ Month of Romance, this is a completely optional mingle that will cause affected characters to end up in each other's beds. There are various options for both established and new CR. While it's easiest for characters still living in Communal Housing, anyone who has moved to their own homes can be affected and end up finding their way to Communal Housing, or within their own housing.
Residents of the Quarantine may notice that various businesses selling food and drink - cafés, diners, bakeries, restaurants, and other such establishments - are heavily advertising a new flavor that's supposed to be the biggest thing since pumpkin spice. A flavor additive that's said to subtly change the flavor of whatever the diner is eating or drinking to optimize the dish, drink, dessert, or any other food item it is added to for each person's individual taste, it's been selling like wildfire and is the latest trend.
After the cause of the rash of amnesia was revealed to be plant-related, sellers are keeping the origin of the secret ingredient very close to their chests, since it is a derivative of a recently-discovered plant dubbed chameleonis. Depending on the method of ingestion, this additive can have a variety of unexpected side effects, but only once the person who has ingested it becomes sleepy. Methods of ingestion include:
● Ingestion: Beverage: When ingested as a flavor shot to drinks ranging from sodas to coffee to alcoholic beverages, it can cause a desire for closeness to a particular other person. Affected characters end up crawling into bed with that specific other character when they become sleepy.
● Ingestion: Food: When ingested as a flavoring added to a baked good or other meal, it can cause an intense desire for body heat when the character becomes drowsy. It won't matter to an affected character who is providing the body heat, so long as it's someone, and they will end up sleepily crawling into someone else's bed for warmth.
● Inhalation: When inhaled ether from a steaming hot beverage or soup, or as an essential oil or aroma from a bakery, it can cause disorientation when a character becomes sleepy. Affected characters either aren't sure which bed is theirs and simply crawl into the closest one, occupied or not, or become convinced that another character's bed is their own.
Feel free to post up a top-level for your own character either affected and invading a random bed or unaffected but open to having their bed invaded by affected characters, or tag around to other people's top-levels.

[At least he's comforted by the feeling of having the blanket pushed over him.] þokk. [He mumbles the Old Norse word for thanks, his voice muffled by the pillow. Yep, Thor is definitely the favorite uncle right now.]
no subject
[Thor shakes his head and yawns, settling back down into the cushions and shutting his eyes. He reaches out and pats Ivar on the arm.] You are welcome all the same.
no subject
Considering I still picked your bed out of the eighty or so in this building, I think that says something.
[Namely that Ivar was a sixteen year old boy who still missed his family desperately. This is the longest he's ever been away from them, so subconsciously, he's sought out the ones he has here. First Loki and now Thor.
He sinks back down, putting the pillow behind his head. He's not going to move anytime soon now that Thor seems alright with him staying.]
I'm much obliged.
no subject
Mm, then we'll call it fate, shall we? Or perhaps you are very perceptive even in your sleep.
no subject
Considering I'm the only one of my brothers to actually possess a brain-- [He loves and misses his brothers dearly, but Ivar will never claim they're smarter than he is.] --I'd say I'm always perceptive.
no subject
Tell me about your brothers.
no subject
There's four of them. Bjorn, Ubbe, Hvitserk, and Sigurd. I'm the youngest, so it sometimes feels like four too many. But not always. They were the only ones to see any worth to me growing up. Everyone else saw a useless cripple, but they knew differently when we were alone. [He pauses.] This is the longest I've ever been away from them.
[He sounds very young and sad, voice tinged heavily with nostalgia. They're the only family he has left in the world, so he feels their loss every day. Being six months away means he's inclined to think charitably of them, even Bjorn and Sigurd, whom he wasn't having the best relationships right now.]
no subject
I am eager to meet them, as I am eager to meet your father. Seeing as we are related. [He's still skeptical, but he wants to see him with his own eyes before he casts judgement.]
Sometimes only family can see us as we are, for better or for worse. Generally, I've found it's for worse, but you seem to have better luck in that regard.
no subject
I keep hoping the portal will bring one of them through the same way it did for me. [If it could bring so many people from the same worlds together, why not his?]
Somewhat. Most of them are kind, but Sigurd is my least-favorite. He likes to torment me only when he knows I can't fight back. [Ivar can't count the number of times he's ended up screaming in frustration while his brother gets away freely simply because he can't retaliate. 'We all feel pity for you.' The words still rang in his head.]
no subject
[Perhaps not a true sacrifice, but maybe some sort of ritual would be enjoyable for Ivar and the other Asgardians. If they can't bring people from home, they can bring some feelings of home here together.]
Sounds as though you should have thrown rocks at him.
no subject
[A good sacrifice always got things rolling with the Vikings. It provided some good karma and generally made it so things would run smoothly for them during things like raids. Besides, he'd already talked over the idea of a sacrifice with Loki once or twice as well.
The suggestion of throwing rocks at Sigurd made him chuckle.]
I have. Among other things. Like an axe or two.
[Not that it ever discouraged the idiot from continuing to butt heads with Ivar.]
no subject
[He might have a hard time explaining it to some of his friends, but it still excites him.]
If you're throwing axes, I wonder if your aim is poor or if you like him a lot less than I imagine.
no subject
[He actually sounds kind of pleased by the idea. Personally, he thought this could be a good wake-up call for the residents, who had gotten complacent as a flock of fat sheep.]
Sigurd's kindest words for me usually involve telling me I should have been left to die as a child in the woods. Throwing an axe at him now and again helps to put him in his place. Not that he ever learns. He loves pushing boundaries without ever thinking of the consequences. [Sigurd hhad gotten the first quality from their mother, Aslaug, but combining that with Ragnar's reckless danger had produced a seventeen year old whose antagonistic nature towards his little brother seemed suicidally reckless.]
no subject
[Thor pauses, then adds.] Almost.
no subject
I do now officially have bragging rights over them for the rest of our lives.
[There weren't many who said they had sparred with a god. He snuggles contentedly down into the covers. Time to get some sleep.]
