player-suggested mini-event: A STRANGER'S BED
what: Player-Suggested Mini-Event
when: August 26th - August 31st
warnings: please put any necessary warnings in the subject lines

As a lead in to September, Riverview's ♥ Month of Romance, this is a completely optional mingle that will cause affected characters to end up in each other's beds. There are various options for both established and new CR. While it's easiest for characters still living in Communal Housing, anyone who has moved to their own homes can be affected and end up finding their way to Communal Housing, or within their own housing.
Residents of the Quarantine may notice that various businesses selling food and drink - cafés, diners, bakeries, restaurants, and other such establishments - are heavily advertising a new flavor that's supposed to be the biggest thing since pumpkin spice. A flavor additive that's said to subtly change the flavor of whatever the diner is eating or drinking to optimize the dish, drink, dessert, or any other food item it is added to for each person's individual taste, it's been selling like wildfire and is the latest trend.
After the cause of the rash of amnesia was revealed to be plant-related, sellers are keeping the origin of the secret ingredient very close to their chests, since it is a derivative of a recently-discovered plant dubbed chameleonis. Depending on the method of ingestion, this additive can have a variety of unexpected side effects, but only once the person who has ingested it becomes sleepy. Methods of ingestion include:
● Ingestion: Beverage: When ingested as a flavor shot to drinks ranging from sodas to coffee to alcoholic beverages, it can cause a desire for closeness to a particular other person. Affected characters end up crawling into bed with that specific other character when they become sleepy.
● Ingestion: Food: When ingested as a flavoring added to a baked good or other meal, it can cause an intense desire for body heat when the character becomes drowsy. It won't matter to an affected character who is providing the body heat, so long as it's someone, and they will end up sleepily crawling into someone else's bed for warmth.
● Inhalation: When inhaled ether from a steaming hot beverage or soup, or as an essential oil or aroma from a bakery, it can cause disorientation when a character becomes sleepy. Affected characters either aren't sure which bed is theirs and simply crawl into the closest one, occupied or not, or become convinced that another character's bed is their own.
Feel free to post up a top-level for your own character either affected and invading a random bed or unaffected but open to having their bed invaded by affected characters, or tag around to other people's top-levels.

Thor hunches in as best he can. He's not sure if he's the big spoon or the little spoon here, but he's becoming a comfortable spoon. Somehow.]
I don't know, it's cozy. In a way.
no subject
Right, of course. [ There's an eye roll there, evident enough in her voice that she doesn't even have to roll over for him to feel it, most likely. Re-L herself isn't the most built thing in the world, but looks are a bit deceiving when it comes to her and her genetics. By now she's a bit used to the heat from another body, Vincent, and etc, but the concept of spooning in a verbal form isn't something she understand or would know, actually.
Stupid Romdeau and its politics on contact. ]
If you like being crushed up.. [ She pauses, sighs. ] .. I never thought I was tall until I arrived here. Everyone is so damn short.
no subject
I've always been regarded as tall- compared to mortals, at least. [He's big by Asgardian standards, but perhaps not the biggest.] You are right, however. Perhaps there is bias in the portals. Perhaps small people are easier to transport.
no subject
[ Really, he should be put up for a some kind of sainthood. Not many people would just put up with her like this, she knows that much, and in a way he reminds her slightly of Vincent, just....
bigger. He mentions 'compared to mortals', though, and she whips around a little too quickly to lie and say that she wasn't curious about that little factor. It's got everything to do with her own little dosage of being somewhat... not normal, but there's no way in hell she's telling a perfect stranger about it, even as blue eyes settle on him again. ]
... Compared to mortals? What do you mean by that? [ Most likely the literal, but a girl has to be sure. ] I would believe so. Though... if there were problems you think you and a few others would've definitely been left behind.
no subject
That I'm not mortal? I'm Asgardian. [He says plainly, intentionally obtuse.] They would do well to leave me behind. I had business to attend to back home, feelings of unrest and unease be damned.
no subject
Asgardian... [ She says it as if saying the word might help her, though, if she's honest... she's not got a damn clue where he's from or what that means. Still, she can't help her next question, too curious if perhaps proxies were something that translated across different places or not. Maybe he could.. somehow.. give her a little more insight in to something she'd barely been able to learn anything of worth about before the place she'd most expected to be able to find it came crashing, literally, down. ]
Do you know anything about proxies? [ Re-L is trying not to get her hopes up, but now she's rolled to face him entirely, not at all fussed about her state of undress with something so important maybe breaking its way in to give her a lead - ] Anything at all?
no subject
He seems to search his memory for the relevance of the word, but it comes up blank.]
I don't know of anything specific- nothing that seems relevant anyway. Why do you so intently ask?
no subject
Of course you don't.. [ There's a sound like mild frustration, there, as she settles back. This whole trying to figure out where the hell these things came from ordeal was getting more and more annoying, particularly since it was like a game of keep away with some things that may help her understand herself a little more, too. It's a whole twisted web, probably, to explain to Thor, so she keeps it simple : ]
They're... beings from my version of Earth. Practically immortal unless you have the right weaponry, something like... Gods for their individual domes.
[ Just gonna casually leave out why she's so intent for the most part - ]
I've been trying to find out more about them, if possible.
no subject
Is their apparent immortality the only thing that makes them godly? Are they humanoid? Did they originate from Earth? There are countless worlds and species, where I come from. It could be any number of things.
no subject
Stop it. [ There's no doubt in Re-L's mind it's an insincere thing, and really, it's not all that necessary. She shouldn't have expected it anyways, if she's being fair (which hardly ever happens) - but it didn't mean she'd be fast enough to stop her own mouth at times.
It seems as though most every lead ends up fruitless, and over time it's worn on her nerves more than she'd like to admit. ]
No.. they're the source of new life for each Dome. [ Don't ask her how the hell it works, Thor, she never really wanted to learn all of that, either. ] If Vincent is anything to go off of.. yes. Very humanoid. Until they convert to their true forms, and then less so. Feet taller than me and you, huge claws, everything.
So far as I learned it seemed like they did. Finding anything more since the Dome collapsed has been pointless, though. Frustrating.
[ Though - ] I suppose learning more relies on Vince.. Ergo Proxy.. recovering his memories, more than anything.
no subject
He does, however, listen. To his credit, he does try to relay it back to things he knows and stories he's heard. He's coming up short, and he's starting to understand less as she deops teems he doesn't understand the context of.]
I comprehend less than half of what you've told me, I'm sure, but are you saying your Earth is in peril? Do they feed on humans?
no subject
It's fine, I expected it. [ Most people understand less than half of what she tells them when it comes to her world, anyway. It's fine, really. It's a good thing. The less people know about a destroyed nuclear world the better. ]
My Earth is destroyed already. Nuclear winter, the lot. Those of us that stayed on Earth lived in contained domes with controlled populations and.. reasons for each citizen. Others escaped to space.
[ Though, that last part... ] Not so far as I can tell.
Tried to kill me, sure, but never eaten. That.. may be explainable, though. [ She'd only ever seen proxies fight each other, and if that was anything to go by... maybe they sensed a part of Monad in her? She'd probably never be sure. ]
no subject
[Look, he's trying to piece it together.]
So, is there no telling what their primary motive is? Do they simply wish to possess what is left of Earth?
[He was trying to sleep, now he's talking in detail about a horrible iteration of Earth. He's muddling through this, but he's interested enough to stay awake.]
no subject
It is an energy source, but it can also be used to tip bombs... [ She pauses, trying to figure out the best wording with which to explain this to him. Apparently she has to word things a certain way to ensure that things are easier to grasp and she doesn't spend so long explaining things. ]
When that happens, and they explode, the radioactivity in the matter makes soil where it settles unusable. And throws dirt in to the air, which blocks the sun .. and creates nuclear winter. [ She thinks that's clear enough. Maybe? ]
I know what Ergo Proxy's is. [ She lives with him, after all, she should know by now. ] Ergo Proxy is the Proxy of Death.
.. Which I suppose makes it some wonder I'm alive as I am.
[ But Vincent is pretty damn fond of her, so, perhaps not such a mystery after all. ]
no subject
Why does it make you wonder? Why are you so familiar with the Ergo Proxy? [He feels like he's being briefed for a mission here, but he likes to be prepared for any possible future of the Earth he knows.]
no subject
.. I travel with him. [ There, she's said it. It isn't as though Vincent Law is a huge secret in her life, but typically she doesn't refer to him by what's come to be something of an alter ego. He's proven to be a little sensitive to it over time and for the sake of somehow not waking up dead the next day she's warily dropped the words from her vocabulary unless she's so annoyed that the subject of 'caring' leaves her mind completely.
Still, there's no way she's saying anything about the fact that Vincent claims he loves her as to why she wonders, and quickly kinds of.. winds around it for the time being. ]
He's proven to be ruthless to other proxies before, is all. And I don't tend to tip toe around other people's feelings.
no subject
When you described proxies, I imagined hostile, inhumane beasts. Unless he's some sort of rebel?
no subject
He could be, depending on how you look at it. But he's never been violent toward me, really. And... [ She pauses, seems to think about her wording here, and then - ] And without him I would still be in that gilded cage called Romdeau Dome.
They are, from what I've witnessed. Ergo Proxy... also has a human side.
I don't know the true specifics, really, other than another Proxy by the name of Monad - [ Here she makes an unconscious motion to put a pale hand to her chest, as if naming herself Monad. ] - gave up a lot to free him of.. a guilty conscience and memories to split off another persona that is human and much more gentle.
- - If anything Vincent's near on too sensitive at times.
no subject
[Thor isn't sure what to make of most of what she's saying, but he can comprehend that much. Of course, he can't help but comprehend the part that he can tease her about.]
no subject
[ There's a rising urge to lift a foot and try to kick him at that, honestly. She turns to give him a bit of a sharp look, blue eyes narrowed and that bright make-up sleep smeared. No such thing as stopping to wash one's face when it's more pressing to crawl in with a warm body, okay.. ]
He's the only other human interaction available, so I kind of have to be. Unless you would enjoy conversation with a perpetually four year old autoreiv. [ Actually, wait, she's gong to think that one through - ]
Never mind, you would.
no subject
Let your mind rest. So I can rest.
no subject
[ Re-L's a bit baffled by the move to lay her head on his shoulder - one, she'd not expected him to be so welcoming to her staying, and two.. no one's ever done that before. It's not completely .. terrible, though, and he is warm to curl up with, so.. maybe she'll stay.
It's a very .. polite way of telling her to shut up and sleep, after all. She manages some sort of annoyed noise despite that, shuffling slightly to settle in. ]
You act like that's so easy. I don't know if I'm jealous or not..
no subject
no subject
The first time I'd ever seen stars was here, actually.. [ Not even the faux night sky of Romdeau had even tried to replicate stars and planets and the like in the night sky. Maybe because they didn't know what it looked like, either, or considered it something unnecessary.
She sighs, reminded of things she's missed out on in a way, but not entirely put out, falling quiet to presumably let Thor, at least, sleep.
Re-L had invaded his bed, after all. It's only right. ]
