a stranger's bed

As a lead in to September, Riverview's ♥ Month of Romance, this is a completely optional mingle that will cause affected characters to end up in each other's beds. There are various options for both established and new CR. While it's easiest for characters still living in Communal Housing, anyone who has moved to their own homes can be affected and end up finding their way to Communal Housing, or within their own housing.

Residents of the Quarantine may notice that various businesses selling food and drink - cafés, diners, bakeries, restaurants, and other such establishments - are heavily advertising a new flavor that's supposed to be the biggest thing since pumpkin spice. A flavor additive that's said to subtly change the flavor of whatever the diner is eating or drinking to optimize the dish, drink, dessert, or any other food item it is added to for each person's individual taste, it's been selling like wildfire and is the latest trend.

After the cause of the rash of amnesia was revealed to be plant-related, sellers are keeping the origin of the secret ingredient very close to their chests, since it is a derivative of a recently-discovered plant dubbed chameleonis. Depending on the method of ingestion, this additive can have a variety of unexpected side effects, but only once the person who has ingested it becomes sleepy. Methods of ingestion include:

● Ingestion: Beverage: When ingested as a flavor shot to drinks ranging from sodas to coffee to alcoholic beverages, it can cause a desire for closeness to a particular other person. Affected characters end up crawling into bed with that specific other character when they become sleepy.

● Ingestion: Food: When ingested as a flavoring added to a baked good or other meal, it can cause an intense desire for body heat when the character becomes drowsy. It won't matter to an affected character who is providing the body heat, so long as it's someone, and they will end up sleepily crawling into someone else's bed for warmth.

● Inhalation: When inhaled ether from a steaming hot beverage or soup, or as an essential oil or aroma from a bakery, it can cause disorientation when a character becomes sleepy. Affected characters either aren't sure which bed is theirs and simply crawl into the closest one, occupied or not, or become convinced that another character's bed is their own.

Feel free to post up a top-level for your own character either affected and invading a random bed or unaffected but open to having their bed invaded by affected characters, or tag around to other people's top-levels.

in oso's bed

[chumpelstiltskin]

[It's been a little while since Dave even lived in the dorm, but it seems to draw him in this evening. Ever since his late lunch, he's been feeling kind of needy. Needy and tired. At first, it's nothing new for him, but it progresses into something so intense it almost feels like he's going to pass out from the need to curl up and sleep.

He's looking for a bed, but not just any bed, a bed with someone in it. He makes his way up into the dorms, seemingly at random despite the fact that he's a heat seeking missile. He steps into the doorway, right in time for whoever the fuck that is to notice him. He hesitates, for a moment, wondering what the fresh hell he's getting himself into. He buries the thought and steps forward, inviting himself to flip open the covers of Osomatsu's bed so he can get right in there.

He is simultaneously satisfied, in a state of inescapable bliss and feeling incredibly awkward, like he's trapped in some sort of lucid dream. How can he make this less awkward? Maybe he should talk. Explain himself. Sounds good.]

[ah...? some guy just walked into his room! and is getting into his bed!

Osomatsu is about to protest, but thanks to all that weird flavored food he's been eating, he kind of doesn't want to turn Dave away. uh... weird.

he won't lie back down immediately, but he will stare at him for a moment, before casually replying]

Sup?

[chumpelstiltskin]

Cold. [Dave answers vaguely, curling around Osomatsu as if this is perfectly normal for the both of them. Just two guys who haven't just met.]

It's getting real crisp outside, huh? I guess it's rolling around to weird, space Halloween season. [He means Fall.] You feeling that? Feeling the cold?

[relieable]

[yeah, this is a little bizarre, but Osomatsu was complaining about wanting to make friends, and maybe this guy is just overly friendly? he's not about to turn that down!]

Yeah, I'm feeling it! [now that the other guy mentions it, a chill rushes down Osomatsu's spine, and he flops back onto the bed, bringing up the covers around them. yeah, I guess we're doing this] When'd it get so cold?

[chumpelstiltskin]

When the seasons changed, probably. [He says it matter-of-factly, of course. He's barely aware of his own movements, but he's reaching forward to loop his skinny arms around Osomatsu's middle section like they're a cute couple and not a couple of strangers.]

Aren't you the guy running the dating service? [He's not letting go, nor is he addressing it.]

[it's not as weird as Osomatsu figured it would be. cuddling, anyway. he does wake up a little when Dave mentions the dating service]

Y-yeah! I mean... I was, but Karamatsu an' I kinda stopped that for right now.

[chumpelstiltskin]

Overrun with business, huh? Stress get to much for you?

[Dave's voice is a sarcastic, monotone drawl right now. Even on the edge of sleep, he can't resist the jibes. Like a moth to flame.]

[Osomatsu snuggles in a bit tighter, letting his eyes fall shut]

Yeah, that's it. [he also sounds sarcastic] Actually, a bunch of people kinda talked me out of it.

[chumpelstiltskin]

[Dave chuckles tiredly against him. He's sleepy enough to let his reactions be a little less inhibited, which is probably obvious since he's cuddling some guy he's spoken to once.]

Can't think why. [Except for about a thousand reasons.] So, uh, do you do this often?

[relieable]

[cuddling is good for the soul! right?]

Do what often?

[chumpelstiltskin]

Let people you've never met in person hop into your bed and cuddle you. [He pauses.]

Because I sure as hell don't.

[relieable]

[you're the one who did it, Dave!]

It's never happened to me before... But I don't really see anything wrong with it.

[chumpelstiltskin]

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, per se. It's just a little weird, don't you think? On both sides, I mean. Don't get me wrong, I'm not placing the fault squarely on your delicate, little shoulders. I just think we should probably open up a discourse about why, tonight of all nights, we both decided there's nothing more important than getting into bed with each other.

[He sounds so very tired, but he keeps talking.] I don't really cuddle on a regular basis, let alone with guys I'm not intimately close to.

[relieable]

[hmmm... he raises a solid point! Osomatsu yawns but he'll try to stay awake a little longer to... uh... discuss this]

You said it yourself that the weather was changing. Maybe that has somethin' to do with it.

[chumpelstiltskin]

That's a point. Weird shit happens all the time here, maybe it's one of those weird, thematic events leading up to a festival.

[He hums in consideration.] Did you get hit with the amnesia?

[what a weird question, Osomatsu thinks at first, but then recalls that there was something like that going on when he got there. people were losing memories]

Not me. [he snuggles closer, closing his eyes] I think... I, like, got here too late for anything t'happen to me.

[chumpelstiltskin]

Yeah? You got here that soon? Or has a shitload of time passed and I just haven't realised? Seems off.

[He doesn't dwell on it for too long.] How you likin' it so far?

[relieable]

Hasn't been long! [he grins] I... Guess it's better off than bein' at home. But it's also been kinda rough.

[chumpelstiltskin]

Because people bully you all the time? [Dave just assumes.] Or because you miss your five thousand other brothers?

[relieable]

People don't bully me! Why would you think that? [he opens his eyes to look at Dave again]

[chumpelstiltskin]

[Dave's eyes are shut, and they stay shut, even though he feels as if he's being watched.]

I actually have no idea. [Yes, nice save.] Why's it so hard here, then?

[relieable]

[he's watching you]

...it's not important, really.

[chumpelstiltskin]

It is important and you're pretending it's not important because even though we're obviously extremely close you don't trust me with your delicate emotional baggage.

[relieable]

[...a small smile tugs at the corners of his lips, and he closes his eyes again, relaxing]

It's not that I don't trust you... I mean, you're pretty cozy, an' all. It's more like I just wanna sleep instead of get into... all that. [a beat] But, tomorrow, if ya still wanna hear about my delicate emotional baggage, I'll tell you.

[chumpelstiltskin]

I can't believe you lied to me about the importance. [But he is pretty fucking tired.]

Alright, well. I guess I'll still be here. [Dave snuggles in, settling.] Night, nerd.
