player-suggested mini-event: A STRANGER'S BED
what: Player-Suggested Mini-Event
when: August 26th - August 31st
warnings: please put any necessary warnings in the subject lines

As a lead in to September, Riverview's ♥ Month of Romance, this is a completely optional mingle that will cause affected characters to end up in each other's beds. There are various options for both established and new CR. While it's easiest for characters still living in Communal Housing, anyone who has moved to their own homes can be affected and end up finding their way to Communal Housing, or within their own housing.
Residents of the Quarantine may notice that various businesses selling food and drink - cafés, diners, bakeries, restaurants, and other such establishments - are heavily advertising a new flavor that's supposed to be the biggest thing since pumpkin spice. A flavor additive that's said to subtly change the flavor of whatever the diner is eating or drinking to optimize the dish, drink, dessert, or any other food item it is added to for each person's individual taste, it's been selling like wildfire and is the latest trend.
After the cause of the rash of amnesia was revealed to be plant-related, sellers are keeping the origin of the secret ingredient very close to their chests, since it is a derivative of a recently-discovered plant dubbed chameleonis. Depending on the method of ingestion, this additive can have a variety of unexpected side effects, but only once the person who has ingested it becomes sleepy. Methods of ingestion include:
● Ingestion: Beverage: When ingested as a flavor shot to drinks ranging from sodas to coffee to alcoholic beverages, it can cause a desire for closeness to a particular other person. Affected characters end up crawling into bed with that specific other character when they become sleepy.
● Ingestion: Food: When ingested as a flavoring added to a baked good or other meal, it can cause an intense desire for body heat when the character becomes drowsy. It won't matter to an affected character who is providing the body heat, so long as it's someone, and they will end up sleepily crawling into someone else's bed for warmth.
● Inhalation: When inhaled ether from a steaming hot beverage or soup, or as an essential oil or aroma from a bakery, it can cause disorientation when a character becomes sleepy. Affected characters either aren't sure which bed is theirs and simply crawl into the closest one, occupied or not, or become convinced that another character's bed is their own.
Feel free to post up a top-level for your own character either affected and invading a random bed or unaffected but open to having their bed invaded by affected characters, or tag around to other people's top-levels.

(Beverly peers into the bag and starts taking out the cheeses.)
I got a gouda and a brie and ah yes, fontina! There's a couple of herbed goat cheeses as well. I ah... wasn't sure what you liked.
no subject
That's alright; they look fantastic! I like all types of cheese Beverly, I'm not a monster.
no subject
Good thing! I suppose I went a little overboard, didn't I?
no subject
(She cuts herself a sliver off the closest wedge, and pops it into her mouth.)
no subject
(She takes out some strange spiky purple fruit - obviously not if Earth - but it's followed by some more familiar Earth-like grapes and apples.)
no subject
What is this, exactly?
(It's so bright. Lucretia grabs her phone off the counter to take a picture of it for her records.)
no subject
no subject
(And she hasn't had one in a long time, either. She turns the fruit over in her hands, thoughtfully.) I suppose we have to skin it, huh.
no subject

Might try again after the wine gives me some better ideas.
no subject
(Grinning she takes another sip of her own wine.)
Though I probably should warn you now: I'm a lightweight when it comes to real alcohol.
(The other part of that warning is that she's an enormous flirt when drunk. No doubt Lucretia will find that out soon enough, especially with the mystery vial's help.)
no subject
(She gives Beverly an over-exaggerated wink, and takes another slow sip of wine, trying to savour the flavour, figure out what exactly it is.)
But I suppose we'll find out.
no subject
You haven't shown me your room yet, you know.
no subject
(There's no question about Beverly staying the night: Lucretia wouldn't dream of asking her to leave. Doesn't want to, either. She'll offer her bed and come out to the couch, but there's a tiny, fluttery part of her that's hoping Beverly won't mind just sharing her bed. It's much more like a sleepover that way.)
And I don't know about you, but I'm tired. (She stands, and offers Beverly a hand.) You're staying here, right?
no subject
Of course.
(The most natural thing in the world. Of course she's staying here. And not just because she's drunk either.)
no subject
She actually cleaned it, this time. The books are neatly stacked and sorted, the clothes on the floor put away, her bed made? It might seem a little disconnected from Lucretia herself, especially since Beverly has seen her trainwreck of an office. There is, at least, something artsy spread out across her desk to balance it all out: various tubes of paint and brushes scattered across a large strip of brown paper tacked down at the ends.)
You get first dibs on the bed, (she explains, turning the light on and then immediately dimming it down a little, because the very bright light is a little too much.) I can take the couch.
no subject
(All other concerns fly out the window, however, as soon as she sees the bed. It is undoubtedly the comfiest looking bed she has ever seen and without invitation or a second thought, she is oozing her way onto it. She does look up in surprise when Lucretia says she'll take the couch.)
Absolutely not!
(She tugs on Lucretia's hand, pulling her down on the bed with her.)
I'm not taking your bed away from you!
no subject
Okay, okay! (It's not like she has to be convinced especially, or anything. Her bed is soft, warm, and it has a cute girl in it, so. Best possible scenario. She sits up abruptly and pulls back the comforter on top, pushing aside the sheets so she can get in too.)
You don't snore though, right? (She's grinning, curling onto her side,) because you're out if you do.
no subject
(Beverly holds up one hand, palm out, like she's swearing a solemn oath. Then she crawls up under the covers herself and stretches out on her side as close as she can get to Lucretia. With one hand, she props herself up on her elbow, while the other hand lightly dances up and down Lucretia's side. Even drunk, she would normally never be quite so forward, but tonight all she wants to do is cuddle.)
no subject
(Beverly's just as touchy-feely as she had been earlier while they were drinking, but Lucretia doesn't much mind– she wants to be close, too. Hopefully Beverly is fine with her forehead tipping to rest against her collarbone as she curls in nice and close.)
You're so warm, (she murmurs, utterly content to cuddle.)
no subject
Mmm. So are you.
(With a yawn, she rests her cheek on the top of Lucretia's head.)
no subject
Lucretia yawns too, sliding one arm across Beverly's hips; the other is squished up between the pair of them but it's all very comfortable. She could sleep like this for days, probably.)
We should do this more often. Wine and cheese night, I mean.
no subject
(Then Beverly laughs.)
I can't believe I brought so many cheeses! I was so worried you wouldn't like them.
no subject
(It's so ticklish to her that Beverly was that concerned at all.) Besides, if I didn't like cheese, I would have pretended I did just to keep you from feeling bad. (Being drunk makes her quite honest.)
no subject
(Beverly leans back to look at Lucretia in that Very Serious way that only drunk people can.)
You shouldn't do that! Promise me you won't! I made Jean-Luc eat the most dreadful things because he was too polite to say no!
