a stranger's bed

As a lead in to September, Riverview's ♥ Month of Romance, this is a completely optional mingle that will cause affected characters to end up in each other's beds. There are various options for both established and new CR. While it's easiest for characters still living in Communal Housing, anyone who has moved to their own homes can be affected and end up finding their way to Communal Housing, or within their own housing.

Residents of the Quarantine may notice that various businesses selling food and drink - cafés, diners, bakeries, restaurants, and other such establishments - are heavily advertising a new flavor that's supposed to be the biggest thing since pumpkin spice. A flavor additive that's said to subtly change the flavor of whatever the diner is eating or drinking to optimize the dish, drink, dessert, or any other food item it is added to for each person's individual taste, it's been selling like wildfire and is the latest trend.

After the cause of the rash of amnesia was revealed to be plant-related, sellers are keeping the origin of the secret ingredient very close to their chests, since it is a derivative of a recently-discovered plant dubbed chameleonis. Depending on the method of ingestion, this additive can have a variety of unexpected side effects, but only once the person who has ingested it becomes sleepy. Methods of ingestion include:

● Ingestion: Beverage: When ingested as a flavor shot to drinks ranging from sodas to coffee to alcoholic beverages, it can cause a desire for closeness to a particular other person. Affected characters end up crawling into bed with that specific other character when they become sleepy.

● Ingestion: Food: When ingested as a flavoring added to a baked good or other meal, it can cause an intense desire for body heat when the character becomes drowsy. It won't matter to an affected character who is providing the body heat, so long as it's someone, and they will end up sleepily crawling into someone else's bed for warmth.

● Inhalation: When inhaled ether from a steaming hot beverage or soup, or as an essential oil or aroma from a bakery, it can cause disorientation when a character becomes sleepy. Affected characters either aren't sure which bed is theirs and simply crawl into the closest one, occupied or not, or become convinced that another character's bed is their own.

Feel free to post up a top-level for your own character either affected and invading a random bed or unaffected but open to having their bed invaded by affected characters, or tag around to other people's top-levels.

[ Of course Shigeru doesn't ever allow people in his bed. Out of all the things he doesn't like that space to really be...interfered with. His phoba is bad enough as is without having someone that close and in such an intimate space. So when he suddenly feels a warm body against his own it makes him stiffen almost immediately. He's still a bit disoriented from the sleep but he does sit up and let out a small yelp of surprise when he sees Dodger of all people in his bed?! What is going on...he almost actually falls out of his bed but he manages to get out of his bed and turn on the lights.

Ah. He doesn't look injured so he's not sure what to do?! If Shigeru's movements haven't awoken his already Dodger will be greeted with a small shake of his shoulder as Shigeru tries to wake him up. ]

[Dodger was brought to some groggy level of consciousness by Shigeru's movements, but he doesn't open his eye until he's shaken. Even then he only blinks slowly, and pauses to procrastinate on waking up for a few moments before shifting his head to look at him.

And as it turns out, he's still too sleepy to really use logic or communication skills, so he just reaches to pull Shigeru against his chest and snuggle up against him, like he's hugging a teddy bear. And well... there's not much arguing against that grip.]

[ Dodger why?! It's bad enough that he's in his bed but then he has to go and do that!! Shigeru lets out a small yelp at the force and strength the other man has. Ugh he totally needs to start training harder at this rate. He might put his hands up against Dodger's chest just so there's some space he needs his space right now.

His breathing is a bit stilted as he tries to not have a panic attack over a rather innocent gesture. It's just...a lot for him on any given day. When he gets taken off guard like this...it always gets harder for him to calm himself. ]

Ah! [ He's trying to attempt to speak but that's all that comes out when he opens his mouth. ]

[It does get his attention, this small noise from the man who can barely make noise at all. He makes a grumbling noise in response, but his grip loosens to allow Shigeru to get free, at least.

His eyes open again, watching him lazily but not really registering how much panic he's causing. Probably because, from the smell of him, one could guess he has definitely been out drowning his sorrows.]

[ Shigeru does move free and he'll get his phone, this time making sure to turn on the text to speech function, so that he can properly communicate. ]

Dodger? Are you okay?

[ The strangely robotic voice will ask in his stead as he moves around the bed to get closer to the other man. ]

[He makes a small grumbling noise, and curls up a bit in protest of losing that source of warmth. But... apparently he's expected to wake up, so he grumbles again and pushes himself up, groggily watching Shigeru.]

....Fine.

[He manages that much, his legs dangling off the edge of the bed as he motions for Shigeru to come closer. Just to see if he will... from the looks of him, he's still heavily considering flopping back into the bed and falling asleep again.]

[ Well as long as Dodger looks and sounds okay Shigeru's worry evaporates. He's still a little...confused about why he was in his bed but he'll just go with it?! Dodger is strange man so Shigeru is honestly used to his antics by now. He sighs a little before shaking his head and then he...shuffles a bit closer at Dodger's request. Shigeru's head tilts to the side as he does so. ]

You're...sure? I mean...showing up in my bed like that is a bit...

[ not entirely strange, given who it is, but it was a bit of a shock for him. ]

[His hands slip around Shigeru's hips, pulling him closer in a gentle grip that he can pull out of if he needs to. Without a word, he presses his forehead to Shigeru's chest, taking a deep breath to take in the man's scent and... enjoy the feeling of touching him, for a while.

Finally he speaks.]

Come back to bed.

[Dodger, as usual, doesn't really question the situation that he's in... just tries to get what he wants.]

[ Grabbing his hips like that makes Shigeru jump and he stumbles forward, his hands landing on Dodger's shoulders, just long enough to brace himself. His face is so red right now, oh my gosh?! ]

But I'm not...I'm really not used to sharing my bed with someone.

[ He looks so awkward as he types that and shows Dodger, looking away momentarily at anywhere but him. Ugh this is...embarrassing. ]
