a stranger's bed

As a lead in to September, Riverview's ♥ Month of Romance, this is a completely optional mingle that will cause affected characters to end up in each other's beds. There are various options for both established and new CR. While it's easiest for characters still living in Communal Housing, anyone who has moved to their own homes can be affected and end up finding their way to Communal Housing, or within their own housing.

Residents of the Quarantine may notice that various businesses selling food and drink - cafés, diners, bakeries, restaurants, and other such establishments - are heavily advertising a new flavor that's supposed to be the biggest thing since pumpkin spice. A flavor additive that's said to subtly change the flavor of whatever the diner is eating or drinking to optimize the dish, drink, dessert, or any other food item it is added to for each person's individual taste, it's been selling like wildfire and is the latest trend.

After the cause of the rash of amnesia was revealed to be plant-related, sellers are keeping the origin of the secret ingredient very close to their chests, since it is a derivative of a recently-discovered plant dubbed chameleonis. Depending on the method of ingestion, this additive can have a variety of unexpected side effects, but only once the person who has ingested it becomes sleepy. Methods of ingestion include:

● Ingestion: Beverage: When ingested as a flavor shot to drinks ranging from sodas to coffee to alcoholic beverages, it can cause a desire for closeness to a particular other person. Affected characters end up crawling into bed with that specific other character when they become sleepy.

● Ingestion: Food: When ingested as a flavoring added to a baked good or other meal, it can cause an intense desire for body heat when the character becomes drowsy. It won't matter to an affected character who is providing the body heat, so long as it's someone, and they will end up sleepily crawling into someone else's bed for warmth.

● Inhalation: When inhaled ether from a steaming hot beverage or soup, or as an essential oil or aroma from a bakery, it can cause disorientation when a character becomes sleepy. Affected characters either aren't sure which bed is theirs and simply crawl into the closest one, occupied or not, or become convinced that another character's bed is their own.

Feel free to post up a top-level for your own character either affected and invading a random bed or unaffected but open to having their bed invaded by affected characters, or tag around to other people's top-levels.

[ The movements were what pulled her out of her slumbering state, from his reaching under the pillow and then the sound of his hand hitting the headboard. Her sleepy eyes fluttered open in a daze that lasted only a moment before she realized that there was someone in her bed when there was not supposed to be someone there.

She didn't scream, but she did gasp. Because what the actual fuck. She didn't know who this man is, how the fuck did he get into her bed and why didn't he have a shirt on, but— that voice— ]

Jason?

[ This was their first time actually seeing each other face to face in person, without any masks on. All she had to go on was his voice and that much, at least, she recognized from when they'd danced at the masquerade. The arm and leg that had been on him she pulled back in a jolt and luckily her reflexes didn't kick in to literally kick him out of the bed. Instead, she just laid there, blinking at him, completely confused. She managed to keep her voice hushed even as she asked, ]

What the hell are you doing in my bed?

[ Despite how much his head was already starting to hurt, Jason pushed himself to sit up. He looked confused around the room. Her question seemed to come from somewhere else in his mind. he looked back down at her looking as confused as she clearly was.]

Hana?

[ The face and voice were clear enough. How in the hell? He didnt even know where she lived. ]

I don't actually know. [ He reached up scratching at his hair a second before moving the covers, thankful to see he had his pants on, that at least elevates the biggest concerns.] Where are we? As in what floor...

[ She watched as he sat up and—

uh, okay. Well, Jason is definitely... hm. What is it that they use in English to describe it? Ripped?

But, right. Question. Answer. ]

Tenth floor.

[ She sat up then, too, rubbing her eyes a little as she did so before looking at him. She could smell the scent of alcohol lingering on him and her lips drew into a thin line. He probably just... drunkenly made his way over here, somehow. ]

You know, I didn't think you were going to skip the whole calling part we talked about and get right into my bed.

[ She said it teasingly, at least, before she sighed. ]

How's your head? Need any water?

[ Yes, very ripped. As a hero should be.

He popped one of his shoulders before reaching down to the floor where his t-shirt was sitting. One with blood splatter on it and the printed words of 'I'm fine.' Pulling it up into his lap he looked back her way and offered a playful smile despite his headache.]

What can I say, I live to surprise people.

And god, I'd love you forever if you have some aspirin. I feel like someone to an axe to my head.

[ She was maybe a little disappointed when he made a move to get his shirt. The view was so nice, after all, and she returned his playful smile with one of her own as she pulled the blanket off of her so she could swing her legs to the side of the bed and stand up. She wasn't wearing any pajama pants to go under the loose shirt she was wearing but she didn't seem to care as she walked across the foot of her bed in front of him and waved at him dismissively. ]

You're lucky I didn't reflexively bunny-kick you out of my bed, you know. You should already love me forever!

Be right back.

[ She disappeared into the hallway after that, but returned from the kitchen shortly thereafter with a glass of water and aspirin. She stood at the side of the bed, holding these things out to them. ]

Consider me your hero. You're welcome.

[ He didn't put it on yet, just had it in his lap ready to get dressed again. Though the tight jeans he had somehow slept in left little to the imagination as well. His eyes followed her, why hello Hana. He was a little more respectful than most of expect of him, but he could still look. She was beautiful after all. ]

Bunny-kick? I don't know, maybe I would like that. [ He teased as he reached out to take both swallowing down the pills with a drink of the water. His blue eyes looking her over again.]

Thank you, my hero, and how shall I pay you back?

[ A little less bleary-eyed from having been woken up in the middle of the night now, Hana could see him a little better even in the darkness of the room so, hello to you too, Jason. He earned a quirked brow and a smirk for his banter and a thought crossed her mind when he took the aspirin and especially so when she saw him giving her a once-over.

She leaned down a little bit. ]

I don't know... you disrupted my beauty sleep and I had to play nurse? It's gonna be a big price to pay, Jason.

[ It was her turn to look him over just before she leaned in to whisper in his ear... ]

How are you with racing games?

[ He finished off the water, because well, it's just a good thing to do when you need to wake up quickly. His blue eyes met her eyes when she leaned down. A smirk playing the corners of his lips. ]

I can pay a big price, depends on what your wanting.

[ He spoke, his accent still a little heavy with sleep but he was more awake than he was implying. Habit from years of broken sleep. He grinned a little more despite his headache.]

I'm amazing with racing games. You wanna play with me, Hana? [ He purposely made it a little lewd, but, if she said no that would be fully respected. He had a code after all.]

[ Listen. She's sharing this room with like four other people and at least some of them are in their beds, just trying to get a good night's sleep, not really prepared to wake up in the middle of the night much less to one of their roommates fooling around with a guy who'd randomly ended up in her bed. She had pulled away from his ear and her gaze fell down to that smirk on his lips and, okay, it was tempting, especially with the way his voice sounded, but playing the teasing game sounded even more fun, honestly.

So she tilted her head at him coyly, held a finger up to her lips, and said,

Only if you're a good sport. Think you can beat me at one? I won't go easy on you, you know.

[ Jason had like zero shame, well, outside of his own floor. He tried to pretend to be a normal stable adult there but who was he fooling? No one that's who. Jason's eyebrow arched as she held the finger to her lips.

He pushed himself up, draping his shirt over one of his shoulders and grabbed his boots from beside the bed to stand. Read for her to lead him wherever. He figure it wouldn't be here. he was tired and hung over enough that he wasn't even sure what they were talking about anymore, real games or sexy games. Either way, he was ready to follow.]

I never want you to go easy on me, give me your worse, Hana.

[ She spun on the ball of her foot when he stood, just as ready to lead him wherever, and that's just what she did: without another word, just a little smirk up at him from over her shoulder, she led him out of the room and then out to the common area of the floor, then straight to the couch. There was still some deliberation in her mind about whether the games were real or sexy, or some combination of the two, but she was at least certain that whatever it was, it had to be out here.

She flopped on the couch and stretched her arm out along the backrest of it, crossing her bare legs and waiting for Jason to take his place, wherever that may be. ]

Pretty sure you're gonna regret those words, by the way.

[ Jason followed her along like a siren. She was pretty and he was tired and really to follow her to his doom if she deemed it. Though, he doubted that was it.

When the reached the couch he took a seat next to her within the reach of that arm so they were very close, without putting his shirt on, it was tossed down with his boots, which he left near his feet. ]

We'll see.

[ They were very close indeed, and she could feel the same warmth from his body that she could when they were in her bed. This room was certainly better lit than the other one and there was no way for her to mask the way she looked at his body appreciatively, not that she would have tried to hide that anyway. ]

Hmmm...

[ She hummed as she leaned in and then reached over his front to stretch her arm out to the other side of him, to the end table next to the touch... to the controllers there.

As she crossed back over to her seat she dropped one of the controllers in his lap, keeping the other one in her hand as she pressed the button to turn it and the console on. ]

Get ready to get owned.

[ Jason didn't mind the eyes. Sometimes it was good for his ego. He knew he was hot, but sometimes those nagging voices in his head convince him otherwise. The voices he pretends don't exist. He shifts the blue eyes her way, before tracking her with those eyes.

Oh, hello there.

The grin stayed until she dropped the controller, he lifted the one dropped in his lap and turned it on as well. He spent so many nights up playing video games. He was actually kind of glad this was what the game was turning out to be. It would be fun.]

Pish, we'll see. [ He replied with a playful tone.]

[ Hana was actually kind of glad, too. The whole 'ending up in her bed out of nowhere' situation was still kind of weird, and if she was really going to fool around with Jason she'd rather it have been of her own volition and not just because the situation made it convenient.

So, it would be video games with them. Maybe late night pizza if Jason's drunken state turned into a hungry state.

As the game started, Hana navigated them into a versus mode, but first they had to pick their racing characters. Hana, naturally, chose the pinkest, most feminine and most princess-like character available.

(Mario Kart. It was knock-off Mario Kart from another dimension.) ]
