a stranger's bed

As a lead in to September, Riverview's ♥ Month of Romance, this is a completely optional mingle that will cause affected characters to end up in each other's beds. There are various options for both established and new CR. While it's easiest for characters still living in Communal Housing, anyone who has moved to their own homes can be affected and end up finding their way to Communal Housing, or within their own housing.

Residents of the Quarantine may notice that various businesses selling food and drink - cafés, diners, bakeries, restaurants, and other such establishments - are heavily advertising a new flavor that's supposed to be the biggest thing since pumpkin spice. A flavor additive that's said to subtly change the flavor of whatever the diner is eating or drinking to optimize the dish, drink, dessert, or any other food item it is added to for each person's individual taste, it's been selling like wildfire and is the latest trend.

After the cause of the rash of amnesia was revealed to be plant-related, sellers are keeping the origin of the secret ingredient very close to their chests, since it is a derivative of a recently-discovered plant dubbed chameleonis. Depending on the method of ingestion, this additive can have a variety of unexpected side effects, but only once the person who has ingested it becomes sleepy. Methods of ingestion include:

● Ingestion: Beverage: When ingested as a flavor shot to drinks ranging from sodas to coffee to alcoholic beverages, it can cause a desire for closeness to a particular other person. Affected characters end up crawling into bed with that specific other character when they become sleepy.

● Ingestion: Food: When ingested as a flavoring added to a baked good or other meal, it can cause an intense desire for body heat when the character becomes drowsy. It won't matter to an affected character who is providing the body heat, so long as it's someone, and they will end up sleepily crawling into someone else's bed for warmth.

● Inhalation: When inhaled ether from a steaming hot beverage or soup, or as an essential oil or aroma from a bakery, it can cause disorientation when a character becomes sleepy. Affected characters either aren't sure which bed is theirs and simply crawl into the closest one, occupied or not, or become convinced that another character's bed is their own.

Feel free to post up a top-level for your own character either affected and invading a random bed or unaffected but open to having their bed invaded by affected characters, or tag around to other people's top-levels.

[Her expression softens with sympathy. A soldier, or someone like one anyway. She wonders if dreams ever keep him awake at night, like the Borg do for her every now and then.]

You're not going to let me get out of this, are you?

[Her smile is an embarrassed one.]

[ Obi-Wan shrugs. ]

I am dreadfully stubborn.

[That earns a small chuckle.]

Normally, so am I.

[She yawns again, this time not bothering to suppress it.]</ small>

But just this once I might give in.

It seems like a wise choice. I am a Jedi. You have nothing to fear from me.

Oh well then, a Jedi.

[She grins.]

You realize I have no idea what that means?

[ Obi-Wan blinks. ]

Ah, I forget that's the case here. A Jedi serves the Force.

[ He rubs his beard thoughtfully. ]

Akin to a monk, I suppose.

[Great. She's stealing a mink's bed. That makes her feel so much better.

Still, while she feels guilty, she's curious.]

Is the Force some sort of...diety then?

Not a God. It is an field of energy that surrounds all of us. Magic, nature, destiny. Whatever you wish to call it.

[She snuggles in under the blankets and lays her head on the pillow. She turns her body so she can see him still.]

Can't say I have much use for destiny and I've never been a very spiritual person, but... I do think there's something there, that binds us all together. Something deeper than atoms colliding.

I don't mean destiny as in the future is fated to be. But there are events constantly unfolding and we're tied into them.

[ The Force is always in motion. It never stops, never stills. It feeds one decision into the next. All things must be in balance. ]

[She nods. She likes the sound of that better.]

And what do you do to serve this Force?

We act as peace-keepers. For the most part.

[ They haven't done so in a while. ]

Sounds a little like my job.

Without the monk part.

I use the term monk loosely.

[ There are certain aesthetics that are similar but the Jedi were very different. ]

Your job is?

Specifically, I'm a doctor, but I'm also a member of Starfleet. We're an exploratory and diplomatic peacekeeping organization.

[ Fascinating. ]

Exploratory?

Mmm. We explore the Galaxy.

Which means the galaxy is fairly unknown to you still.

[ Unlike Obi-Wan's galaxy. While not every corner has been explored, the records were fairly thorough. He runs a hand through his beard. ]

[She sits up a little again.]

I take it that's not the case for you?

[ Obi-Wan shakes his head. ]

No. While there are certainly a few unknown planets on the Outer rim, we're quite familiar with almost all species that live within our galaxy.

Amazing!

[She smiles.]

I won't live to see it of course, but I hope we get to that point one day.

No doubt it will come eventually.

Until then, I will enjoy the journey.

That is the most any of us can do.

[ Obi-Wan used to do the same. To some degree. He misses it. Such past times died with Qui-Gon. ]

[She rests her head on the pillow again. Now she looks a little sad, thinking about home as she is. She misses the Enterprise, misses being on the move all the time. Missed her bed.]
