a stranger's bed

As a lead in to September, Riverview's ♥ Month of Romance, this is a completely optional mingle that will cause affected characters to end up in each other's beds. There are various options for both established and new CR. While it's easiest for characters still living in Communal Housing, anyone who has moved to their own homes can be affected and end up finding their way to Communal Housing, or within their own housing.

Residents of the Quarantine may notice that various businesses selling food and drink - cafés, diners, bakeries, restaurants, and other such establishments - are heavily advertising a new flavor that's supposed to be the biggest thing since pumpkin spice. A flavor additive that's said to subtly change the flavor of whatever the diner is eating or drinking to optimize the dish, drink, dessert, or any other food item it is added to for each person's individual taste, it's been selling like wildfire and is the latest trend.

After the cause of the rash of amnesia was revealed to be plant-related, sellers are keeping the origin of the secret ingredient very close to their chests, since it is a derivative of a recently-discovered plant dubbed chameleonis. Depending on the method of ingestion, this additive can have a variety of unexpected side effects, but only once the person who has ingested it becomes sleepy. Methods of ingestion include:

● Ingestion: Beverage: When ingested as a flavor shot to drinks ranging from sodas to coffee to alcoholic beverages, it can cause a desire for closeness to a particular other person. Affected characters end up crawling into bed with that specific other character when they become sleepy.

● Ingestion: Food: When ingested as a flavoring added to a baked good or other meal, it can cause an intense desire for body heat when the character becomes drowsy. It won't matter to an affected character who is providing the body heat, so long as it's someone, and they will end up sleepily crawling into someone else's bed for warmth.

● Inhalation: When inhaled ether from a steaming hot beverage or soup, or as an essential oil or aroma from a bakery, it can cause disorientation when a character becomes sleepy. Affected characters either aren't sure which bed is theirs and simply crawl into the closest one, occupied or not, or become convinced that another character's bed is their own.

Feel free to post up a top-level for your own character either affected and invading a random bed or unaffected but open to having their bed invaded by affected characters, or tag around to other people's top-levels.

[ Loki grouses, curling into a ball. He doesn't seem to move, despite Stark's protests. ]

Stop whining.

[Tony just. Stares. As Loki curls himself up comfortably in his bed.

What the hell.

Almost cautiously, Tony reaches out to poke him in the shoulder with one finger.]

[dothelokimotion]

[ Loki merely opens one lazy cat-like eye at Tony, but he doesn't react. ]

Stark. Either do something or let me be.

[buildsomething]

You -- wha -- it's my bed.

[Tony looks more than a little baffled by this whole situation. And yet somehow unsurprising that Loki is completely unashamedly colonizing his space.]

[dothelokimotion]

You're not my first choice.

[ Loki would much prefer Steve's bed. ]

[buildsomething]

But you're still here.

[Somehow it almost sounds like a questions.]

[dothelokimotion]

[ A quiet sigh as his eyes close. His heart feels emptied out, alien calm scrubbing at his mind. ]

Does it matter where I am if I have nowhere to go?

[buildsomething]

[Tony opens his mouth and then just finds himself frowning a little.]

What does that mean?

[But he's at least not trying to get away anymore. And he's not kicking Loki out, either.]

[dothelokimotion]

It means what I said, Stark.

[ His eyes open, hooded and baleful. ]

If you wish to send me away, do it quickly.

[buildsomething]

[God, he is not awake enough for this. Tony scrubs the back of his hand across his forehead and sighs.]

You gonna stab me in my sleep?

[It's not really a question. Tony is already settling back down anyway, though he may be wriggling his way into more of the space. It is still his bed.]

Stay if you really want to. If you snore I'm kicking you out.

[dothelokimotion]

Unlikely. Steve will be cross if I did.

[ He closes his eyes. He does not mind losing space, even though Loki is much taller, he is more on the gaunt side and can easily curl up with what he has. He's learned to make do, not ask for more. ]

[buildsomething]

[Tony grumbles at little to himself as he settles in.

And then one eye pops back open to stare at Loki.]

What's Steve got to do with anything?

[dothelokimotion]

[ Loki grumbles. ]

My Steve, not yours.

[buildsomething]

...we're from the same place.

[Does Loki have the wrong Tony? Again? They don't all look that similar.]

[dothelokimotion]

[ Loki makes an annoyed growl at the back of his throat. ]

That is not what I meant.

[buildsomething]

[Tony just shifts onto his side to give Loki a look. Its his bed, he'll ask all the stupid questions he wants to.]

So what did you mean?

[dothelokimotion]

I meant that he is mine. Surely you are not quite that dense.

[buildsomething]

[Tony's mouth opens. And then immediately closes again.

What even is this conversation and why has he not poured enough caffeine into his system for it to make sense.]

Okay so. Does he know you've planted a flag on him?

[dothelokimotion]

Of course he knows.

[ Loki's tone is petulant but it does not ring with the force of a lie. He can barely muster up the effort to create one after all. ]

[buildsomething]

[Well that's...something Tony is very much not awake enough to process. Something's not quite fitting together, but hell if he can be bothered to work through what it is at the moment.]

Well great. No stabbing, then.

[Clearly the most important thing.]

[dothelokimotion]

Stop talking and tempting me then.

[ With that he closes his eyes with a sigh. ]
