a stranger's bed

As a lead in to September, Riverview's ♥ Month of Romance, this is a completely optional mingle that will cause affected characters to end up in each other's beds. There are various options for both established and new CR. While it's easiest for characters still living in Communal Housing, anyone who has moved to their own homes can be affected and end up finding their way to Communal Housing, or within their own housing.

Residents of the Quarantine may notice that various businesses selling food and drink - cafés, diners, bakeries, restaurants, and other such establishments - are heavily advertising a new flavor that's supposed to be the biggest thing since pumpkin spice. A flavor additive that's said to subtly change the flavor of whatever the diner is eating or drinking to optimize the dish, drink, dessert, or any other food item it is added to for each person's individual taste, it's been selling like wildfire and is the latest trend.

After the cause of the rash of amnesia was revealed to be plant-related, sellers are keeping the origin of the secret ingredient very close to their chests, since it is a derivative of a recently-discovered plant dubbed chameleonis. Depending on the method of ingestion, this additive can have a variety of unexpected side effects, but only once the person who has ingested it becomes sleepy. Methods of ingestion include:

● Ingestion: Beverage: When ingested as a flavor shot to drinks ranging from sodas to coffee to alcoholic beverages, it can cause a desire for closeness to a particular other person. Affected characters end up crawling into bed with that specific other character when they become sleepy.

● Ingestion: Food: When ingested as a flavoring added to a baked good or other meal, it can cause an intense desire for body heat when the character becomes drowsy. It won't matter to an affected character who is providing the body heat, so long as it's someone, and they will end up sleepily crawling into someone else's bed for warmth.

● Inhalation: When inhaled ether from a steaming hot beverage or soup, or as an essential oil or aroma from a bakery, it can cause disorientation when a character becomes sleepy. Affected characters either aren't sure which bed is theirs and simply crawl into the closest one, occupied or not, or become convinced that another character's bed is their own.

Feel free to post up a top-level for your own character either affected and invading a random bed or unaffected but open to having their bed invaded by affected characters, or tag around to other people's top-levels.

[ shifting to better hold loki, he takes the godling by the shoulders and shakes him gently. ]

No. Don't say that. Don't ever say that. For one thing I don't want you to die.

I left my best friend on Earth and it blew up. I didn't know.

[ There is also that fuelling his depression, peering blearily at Nico with eyes of green dulled and bloodshot. ]

I'll only hurt you too, just like Tony.

[deathkid]

[ wrapping his arms around loki again, he squeezes. he's not sure what to make of the earth blowing like loki says, so he sets that aside to ask about later. ]

How could you possibly hurt me. [ it's hard to hurt someone who's been through as much as he has. ] If anything, it sounds like he hurt you.

[ikols]

No, I ... I was angry and twisted things to Steve, Tony ... he asked me not to touch him.

[ The squeeze from Nico keeps Loki bundled up, making himself smaller than usual as wet sniffs find the back of his hand. ]

I did something wrong. [ With a hitched sigh, he exhales, ] Why am I surprised.

[deathkid]

But how are you to blame when it was this Steve guy who kissed your boyfriend?

[ more confusion as he cradles loki. he can tell that loki's practically crying based on the sniffles but he has no idea what on earth he can do about it. ]

What did you do wrong? It seems to me like you didn't.

[ikols]

I don't know, I would never hurt Tony. He should know that. Anyway, [ more sniffing, ] you can't hurt someone if you're nowhere near them, so.

[ So Loki took himself out of the equation altogether. And is now drunk, completely unrelatedly, yes. Maybe. ]

I've never dated anyone before, does it stop aching any time soon when I think of him? This really sucks.

[deathkid]

Loki...

[ nico feels completely out of his depth here, not knowing what to do. and a drunk loki is weird, so figuring all he can do is cuddle the godling, he does, using one finger to swipe away any tears that might be on loki's cheeks. ]

I've never dated anyone but I've been in love. It really does suck. I was told you have to work hard for it, and I think the one who told me that is right.

[ikols]

I'm tired of working hard to be loved.

[ Sighing, he wraps his arms around Nico more comfortably and presses a fond kiss between the demigod's brows, a little wet and salty from his own tears. ]

Sorry to off-load on you. You're a good friend, Neeks. You remind me of Verity.

[deathkid]

[ ears turning red again as he's kissed, nico clears his throat. ]

It's fine. And I don't think you should have to work hard. You seem lovable on your own.

[ nico knows, because he's still got a lingering crush. it's the dark hair, green eyes, and mischievous grins that get to him. ]

[ikols]

Do you?

[ All three of those factors are pushed into Nico's view across the pillow as Loki squirms down to face him, eyelashes damp and spiked, cheeks blotchy, but a smile tinted with mischief firmly in place. ]

How loveable? Scale of one to a million.

[deathkid]

[ yeah, there goes his face again, lighting up like a traffic light. ]

Well, I'm still getting to know you so, only five hundred thousand, I guess.

[ attempting a joke. the corner of his lips curl a little as he smiles awkwardly. ]

[ikols]

That's really rude, you're supposed to cheer me up and say a billon!

[ A playful growl preludes some deft tickling, seeking out Nico's weak spots. ]

A trillion billion!

[deathkid]

[ eeping and trying to squirm away from those fingers, nico lets out a squawk. ]

Hey, I was being honest! That was a pretty good score!

[ikols]

That's the worst score anyone could have in Space Invaders, let alone real life. Betrayal!

[ Pinching Nico's hips. ]

[deathkid]

[ that prompts a gasp as he tries to arch away from the touch. owie! and his face is getting redder still. ]

Fine, fine! Two Trillion! And I'll have you know I'm pretty good at Space Invaders.

[ikols]

Not as good as me.

[ Balance off, he releases Nico and flops back down with a grunt. That took a lot of effort and Nico looks suitably beetroot-like, so all's won. ]

I'll put it on a shirt. 'Two trillion times more lovable than you'.

[deathkid]

[ clearing his throat again, he looks away from loki. ]

And show it to that Tony guy. If he can't be faithful to you and if he gets mad because you expected him to be faithful, he's not worth it. You deserve someone who won't betray you.

[ikols]

[ oh no here come the sads again, they're so powerful. ]

I don't ... I don't think we were dating exclusively when Steve kissed him. I was trying to avoid giving that much of a fuck.

[deathkid]

[ it's nico's turn to bestow a kiss on loki, much like the godling had on him. ]

You should talk to him about it. Figure it out. Work it out. If it's meant to be, then things will get better.

[ikols]

No, because he still loves Steve. I want to be loved, not loved too.

[ The kiss on his forehead has him itching it, snaking an arm around Nico without any sort of tickling. Come back. ]

Did you ever get together with Percy?

[deathkid]

[ despite his reservations, he leans into loki. it seems to be what the godling needs and nico wants to help him. ]

No. [ softly. ] He never loved me like I loved him. He loves someone else.

[ a pause and then- ] You deserve to be loved without someone choosing someone else too.

[ikols]

I'm going to kick Percy Jackson in the teeth.

[ NEW RESOLUTION. ]

[deathkid]

What-? Why?

[ minor panic, loki wtf ]

[ikols]

[ Chuckling. ]

Because he wounded you. Also, he sounds stupid, and I am very much Team Nico.

[deathkid]

[ flushing again. ]

Gee, thanks. It doesn't matter though. I'm over him.
