a stranger's bed

As a lead in to September, Riverview's ♥ Month of Romance, this is a completely optional mingle that will cause affected characters to end up in each other's beds. There are various options for both established and new CR. While it's easiest for characters still living in Communal Housing, anyone who has moved to their own homes can be affected and end up finding their way to Communal Housing, or within their own housing.

Residents of the Quarantine may notice that various businesses selling food and drink - cafés, diners, bakeries, restaurants, and other such establishments - are heavily advertising a new flavor that's supposed to be the biggest thing since pumpkin spice. A flavor additive that's said to subtly change the flavor of whatever the diner is eating or drinking to optimize the dish, drink, dessert, or any other food item it is added to for each person's individual taste, it's been selling like wildfire and is the latest trend.

After the cause of the rash of amnesia was revealed to be plant-related, sellers are keeping the origin of the secret ingredient very close to their chests, since it is a derivative of a recently-discovered plant dubbed chameleonis. Depending on the method of ingestion, this additive can have a variety of unexpected side effects, but only once the person who has ingested it becomes sleepy. Methods of ingestion include:

● Ingestion: Beverage: When ingested as a flavor shot to drinks ranging from sodas to coffee to alcoholic beverages, it can cause a desire for closeness to a particular other person. Affected characters end up crawling into bed with that specific other character when they become sleepy.

● Ingestion: Food: When ingested as a flavoring added to a baked good or other meal, it can cause an intense desire for body heat when the character becomes drowsy. It won't matter to an affected character who is providing the body heat, so long as it's someone, and they will end up sleepily crawling into someone else's bed for warmth.

● Inhalation: When inhaled ether from a steaming hot beverage or soup, or as an essential oil or aroma from a bakery, it can cause disorientation when a character becomes sleepy. Affected characters either aren't sure which bed is theirs and simply crawl into the closest one, occupied or not, or become convinced that another character's bed is their own.

Feel free to post up a top-level for your own character either affected and invading a random bed or unaffected but open to having their bed invaded by affected characters, or tag around to other people's top-levels.

[Yes, surprised as he was, something in him is kind of loathe to just kick him out. He'd kind of sort of said that he was cold so it would be mean to just push him out]

[ah, really? Osomatsu would have left if he'd requested, but he looks pleased when Lyle says he doesn't see a problem with him hanging out. whooo! buddies! this is what pals do, right? have sleepovers?

two fully grown men having a sleepover. sure...]

Well, all right! [he makes himself comfortable again, trying to get warm. still, he is confused as to why he wandered into a stranger's bed. even if it was a positive meeting. this could have gone south very fast] You doin' okay otherwise?

[Adult slumber party? Sure why not. Lyle is up for that. It wasn't how they had expected it to happen, but they could definitely hang out and probably go back to sleep at some point. For the moment, Lyle is too awake to immediately go back to sleep.

Lyle's not going to outright say it, but he wouldn't push him away if he wanted to cuddle]

Yeah, I'm doing okay. How about you? Since you ended up in someone else's room.

[cuddling sounds like a great idea. Osomatsu sighs, closing his eyes]

I was feelin' pretty weird earlier, but now I'm good. Great, actually.

Good you're doing better, but weird? Weird how?

[Lyle is actually curious and doesn't move if Osomatsu is going to cuddle up with him]

Like, I was really cold... and disoriented? I haven't had any alcohol in a couple days, so I don't think I was drunk. [a beat] Or high. [he tilts his head up, thinking] Just weird, but I dunno how to explain it.

Cold? That's... odd. I wouldn't think it was alcohol. I've never really heard of it making you cold... or experienced it.

[He was Irish. He'd had drinks before]

Did it happen right after you ate something? Maybe it was like some weird allergic reaction?

[He's grasping at straws]

[that was true! alcohol did not make one cold]

Maybe. [another yawn and he does it. he snuggles. sharing body heat makes everything seem much better] I have been eating a lot of stuff I don't normally eat.

Really? Like what?

[Lyle doesn't push him away, kind of leaning in just a little bit more when he does. For complaining about being cold, he was pretty warm to Lyle]

Has this happened to you before?

Nope! Never. [he tries to think about the food that he's been eating, brows furrowing while his eyes are closed] ...I have this job at the cafe... so I've been drinking a lot of their coffee, an' eating a lot of their snacks.

From the cafe? Have they started doing something new recently that might be cause something to happen?

Uh, yeah, actually... [his eyes slide shut] We just introduced this new flavor, puttin' it in everything, from sandwiches, to the drinks, to the baked goods.

[holds_up_walls]

Huh... maybe that has something to do with it. Maybe it is this spice that made you feel that way?

[Lyle stared at the ceiling for a few long moments, then closed his eyes as well]

[hmmm. Osomatsu probably wouldn't have put the two of these things together by himself. but now that Lyle has said it, it makes sense.

...maybe he should stop eating the stuff with that spice in it.

even if the cuddling's been nice]

Who knows... They've been putting it in everything, not just at work.

[Lyle hasn't been eating much of the spice. He tended to avoid eating out. He was at least a decent cook so he didn't think it was necessary. So he hadn't noticed it as much, but if it was in everything and seemed to be causing a problem then it might be wise to avoid it]

I noticed that they have been. Everything. I'm picky so I've tried to avoid it.

Sure does... [he contemplates saying something else but then decides against it. that might be weird. and he doesn't want this to be weird.

...it's already kind of weird, isn't it? naaaaah, they're pals! it's cool.

he doesn't have much else to say after that, falling asleep now that he's warm and cozy] I'll look into it tomorrow.

[Well, Lyle was the one who woke up to someone else in his bed and he doesn't really seem to be acting like this is weird. Okay, maybe a little weird, but he wasn't really too concerned]
