a stranger's bed

As a lead in to September, Riverview's ♥ Month of Romance, this is a completely optional mingle that will cause affected characters to end up in each other's beds. There are various options for both established and new CR. While it's easiest for characters still living in Communal Housing, anyone who has moved to their own homes can be affected and end up finding their way to Communal Housing, or within their own housing.

Residents of the Quarantine may notice that various businesses selling food and drink - cafés, diners, bakeries, restaurants, and other such establishments - are heavily advertising a new flavor that's supposed to be the biggest thing since pumpkin spice. A flavor additive that's said to subtly change the flavor of whatever the diner is eating or drinking to optimize the dish, drink, dessert, or any other food item it is added to for each person's individual taste, it's been selling like wildfire and is the latest trend.

After the cause of the rash of amnesia was revealed to be plant-related, sellers are keeping the origin of the secret ingredient very close to their chests, since it is a derivative of a recently-discovered plant dubbed chameleonis. Depending on the method of ingestion, this additive can have a variety of unexpected side effects, but only once the person who has ingested it becomes sleepy. Methods of ingestion include:

● Ingestion: Beverage: When ingested as a flavor shot to drinks ranging from sodas to coffee to alcoholic beverages, it can cause a desire for closeness to a particular other person. Affected characters end up crawling into bed with that specific other character when they become sleepy.

● Ingestion: Food: When ingested as a flavoring added to a baked good or other meal, it can cause an intense desire for body heat when the character becomes drowsy. It won't matter to an affected character who is providing the body heat, so long as it's someone, and they will end up sleepily crawling into someone else's bed for warmth.

● Inhalation: When inhaled ether from a steaming hot beverage or soup, or as an essential oil or aroma from a bakery, it can cause disorientation when a character becomes sleepy. Affected characters either aren't sure which bed is theirs and simply crawl into the closest one, occupied or not, or become convinced that another character's bed is their own.

Feel free to post up a top-level for your own character either affected and invading a random bed or unaffected but open to having their bed invaded by affected characters, or tag around to other people's top-levels.

[ It's not Loki's nightmare; even drunk and drugged on whatever was pumping so hipsterly around a coffee-shop earlier he's lucid enough to realise the dream he is in doesn't reflect any of his own fears.

Which is why, with a wobble and a lurch, when it snuffs out he sits up and opens his arms for Nico. ]

Bad dream, c'mere.

[ the suddenness of waking up makes it hard for a few seconds for nico to register who's talking to him, but when he does, he blinks in surprise at loki. loki, who had been one of the first people to befriend him here in quarantine and was no offering comfort. it doesn't take much to shift over and accept the embrace, but that's when he smells the booze on the godling. ]

Are- Are you drunk?

[ it's only then that he realizes he must've collapsed into loki's bed last night and his ears begin heating up. what time is it anyway? ]

[ikols]

Yeah.

[ A hand comes up to pat down Nico's bedhead as Loki slumps a hug on him, flopping backwards because gravity is hard to navigate with ten Green Miles sloshing around his bloodstream. ]

Why're you so upset, Neeks?

[deathkid]

[ geeze, loki. the nickname makes his brows raise, but he doesn't argue against it. instead, he actually allows himself to be pushed back onto the bed and lays there in mild surprise. ]

Uh... Just a nightmare. It was- [ he's not sure he's comfortable to say, so he leaves the sentence hanging. ]

[ikols]

Tartarus looks warm. I'm cold. Is the air-con on? 'Cause I was asleeeeeeep and didn't check.

[ Still petting Nico's lovely soft hair. ]

Shh, it's okay now, no more dreams.

[deathkid]

[ blinking rapidly now, nico realizes that loki had seen part of his dream. of course that was possible between demigods ( how often had he traipsed into percy's dreams? ), but he'd never thought a god would want to see what haunts him in his sleep. nico chalks it up to whatever loki had been drinking. ]

Sorry. People say I tend to be colder than most others... I can get some more blankets if you want.

[ikols]

Yeah, more blankets. Good boy, Neeks, you're such a goodie.

[ Smooch. What a good forehead. ]

[deathkid]

[ and there go his ears again, flaming red. why on earth ( or on this moon, rather ) is loki drunk? ]

Um, sure.

[ so he leans over towards his bed and grabs the blankets off that, dumping them in a pile atop them before settling in again. loki doesn't seem to mind his presence, so he won't go anywhere for the time being. besides, he's a little worried about loki. ]

[ikols]

[ Humming as Nico veers around the swirling room, Loki hooks an arm around him and uses his curly crown as a chin-rest once the demigod is close enough to be gathered up in a cuddle. ]

Mmm, mmm, mmm ... Was the boy real? I can put snakes in his shoes.

[deathkid]

[ the closeness is strange, especially to nico who so often avoids contact, but it's also oddly comforting. a good distraction from his dream.

until loki brings up percy. ]

That was Percy Jackson. He's real but he's not... here. I used to like him, but-

[ikols]

But he's a jerk. I don't approve, mm-mmm.

[ Combing through Nico's hair, Loki's eyes focus on the middle-distance across the room. ]

You need a nice boy who won't hurt you. Someone lovely for my Necromancer, they've gotta own ten flowercrowns!

[deathkid]

He's not that bad... [ but he doesn't have the energy to argue further. not when loki's insisting on finding someone else. ]

What about you? Don't you have someone?

[ or is that the reason why loki's drunk. ]

[ikols]

Hah! No, not anymore.

[ Barking out a belly-laugh, he snuggles the wealth of black curls under his nose, inhaling deeply. ]

Your hair is so soft, it's illegal in ten realms.

[deathkid]

[ the snuggling makes nico shiver a little, but not from cold. ]

Don't breathe too deeply. Some people think I smell like death. [ beat. ] What happened?

[ikols]

You smell like a cinnamon roll.

[ His humour dies down with the next nuzzle, hiding between Nico's hair and the pillows. ]

I told the guy that Tony was crushing on and who kissed him that Tony was mine and Tony didn't like it, so I broke up with him.

[ Which makes no sense to Loki, but oh well. Being drunk means he doesn't have to feel the brunt of his emotions over it. ]

[deathkid]

Tony as in Tony Stark? Wait, which one?

[ all these different versions have him confused. rubbing at an eye, he releases a breath. ]

So... The Tony guy basically cheated on you and he was mad you didn't like it? That's dumb. I'd be mad too.

[ikols]

The younger sober one.

[ A shrug is Loki's reaction, toned down by 90% since learning that commenting or reacting to anything Avenger-related usually ends up in a bad time for him. ]

[deathkid]

Ah, the one that keeps filching my coffee.

[ there's a pause because he's not sure what to say or do about the whole thing. he's not very good with comforting people, but he'll try. wrapping his arms around loki, he gives him a gentle hug. ]

You can do better. You deserve better.

[ikols]

I should be dead.

[ It may not be a quieter life, but it would be quieter. Sound logic, questionable execution? ]

[deathkid]

[ shifting to better hold loki, he takes the godling by the shoulders and shakes him gently. ]

No. Don't say that. Don't ever say that. For one thing I don't want you to die.

[ikols]

I left my best friend on Earth and it blew up. I didn't know.

[ There is also that fuelling his depression, peering blearily at Nico with eyes of green dulled and bloodshot. ]

I'll only hurt you too, just like Tony.

[deathkid]

[ wrapping his arms around loki again, he squeezes. he's not sure what to make of the earth blowing like loki says, so he sets that aside to ask about later. ]

How could you possibly hurt me. [ it's hard to hurt someone who's been through as much as he has. ] If anything, it sounds like he hurt you.

[ikols]

No, I ... I was angry and twisted things to Steve, Tony ... he asked me not to touch him.

[ The squeeze from Nico keeps Loki bundled up, making himself smaller than usual as wet sniffs find the back of his hand. ]

I did something wrong. [ With a hitched sigh, he exhales, ] Why am I surprised.

[deathkid]

But how are you to blame when it was this Steve guy who kissed your boyfriend?

[ more confusion as he cradles loki. he can tell that loki's practically crying based on the sniffles but he has no idea what on earth he can do about it. ]

What did you do wrong? It seems to me like you didn't.

[ikols]

I don't know, I would never hurt Tony. He should know that. Anyway, [ more sniffing, ] you can't hurt someone if you're nowhere near them, so.

[ So Loki took himself out of the equation altogether. And is now drunk, completely unrelatedly, yes. Maybe. ]

I've never dated anyone before, does it stop aching any time soon when I think of him? This really sucks.
