a stranger's bed

As a lead in to September, Riverview's ♥ Month of Romance, this is a completely optional mingle that will cause affected characters to end up in each other's beds. There are various options for both established and new CR. While it's easiest for characters still living in Communal Housing, anyone who has moved to their own homes can be affected and end up finding their way to Communal Housing, or within their own housing.

Residents of the Quarantine may notice that various businesses selling food and drink - cafés, diners, bakeries, restaurants, and other such establishments - are heavily advertising a new flavor that's supposed to be the biggest thing since pumpkin spice. A flavor additive that's said to subtly change the flavor of whatever the diner is eating or drinking to optimize the dish, drink, dessert, or any other food item it is added to for each person's individual taste, it's been selling like wildfire and is the latest trend.

After the cause of the rash of amnesia was revealed to be plant-related, sellers are keeping the origin of the secret ingredient very close to their chests, since it is a derivative of a recently-discovered plant dubbed chameleonis. Depending on the method of ingestion, this additive can have a variety of unexpected side effects, but only once the person who has ingested it becomes sleepy. Methods of ingestion include:

● Ingestion: Beverage: When ingested as a flavor shot to drinks ranging from sodas to coffee to alcoholic beverages, it can cause a desire for closeness to a particular other person. Affected characters end up crawling into bed with that specific other character when they become sleepy.

● Ingestion: Food: When ingested as a flavoring added to a baked good or other meal, it can cause an intense desire for body heat when the character becomes drowsy. It won't matter to an affected character who is providing the body heat, so long as it's someone, and they will end up sleepily crawling into someone else's bed for warmth.

● Inhalation: When inhaled ether from a steaming hot beverage or soup, or as an essential oil or aroma from a bakery, it can cause disorientation when a character becomes sleepy. Affected characters either aren't sure which bed is theirs and simply crawl into the closest one, occupied or not, or become convinced that another character's bed is their own.

Feel free to post up a top-level for your own character either affected and invading a random bed or unaffected but open to having their bed invaded by affected characters, or tag around to other people's top-levels.

Oh! Maybe I should show off a little more, then.

(It's cute, how fascinated Beverly is by it. Since Lucretia's more complex spells are hard to show people, she compromises by using prestidigitation to send a shower of soft, glowing sparkles into the air above their heads, white-gold and blue.)

[dancingmd]

(Beverly claps, her eyes lighting up as the sparkles rain down around her.)

(Aw she's such a good audience. Lucretia beams, so pleased by her reaction.)

Thank you. It's a good party trick.

(She grabs the bottle of wine and pours her own glass, the old fashioned way.)

Is that something anyone can learn or were you born with the ability?

[scholiast]

It's a learned skill.

(She holds her glass up and playfully clinks it against Beverly's.)

I'm actually still in self-training. I haven't touched my notes since I got here, though. Too much going on.

[dancingmd]

(Shereturns the clink and swirls her glass thoughtfully, letting the liquid form the vial mix in.)

Would... Would it be the sort of thing you could teach someone?

[scholiast]

Yes, on account of the fact that I'm currently teaching somebody how to use it. He's doing quite well, too.

(She takes a tentative sip of her own, then blinks, holding the wine up to the light.)

... Good goddamn. That's delicious.

[dancingmd]

Is it?

(When Beverly takes a sip, her eyebrows go up in pleasant surprise.)

Oh dear, this could be very dangerous.

[scholiast]

(She chuckles, nodding.)

Goes down a little too easily, doesn't it.

[dancingmd]

(She takes another sip and then squints at her glass thoughtfully.)

I wonder what's in it.

[scholiast]

Perhaps ingredients that can only be found here?

I'll ask Taako later... (Perhaps she should be a little more cautious, but it is very yummy.)

So, what kinds of cheeses are these?

[dancingmd]

Let's see...

(Beverly peers into the bag and starts taking out the cheeses.)

I got a gouda and a brie and ah yes, fontina! There's a couple of herbed goat cheeses as well. I ah... wasn't sure what you liked.

[scholiast]

(Yeah there's a couple there, huh? Lucretia turns her music back on, dialing it down to serve as soft background noise as she gets up to fetch them a little wooden chopping board and cheese knife.)

That's alright; they look fantastic! I like all types of cheese Beverly, I'm not a monster.

[dancingmd]

(Beverly laughs as she looks at all the cheese laid out.)

Good thing! I suppose I went a little overboard, didn't I?

[scholiast]

You cannot go overboard with cheese.

(She cuts herself a sliver off the closest wedge, and pops it into her mouth.)

[dancingmd]

What about with fruit?

(She takes out some strange spiky purple fruit - obviously not if Earth - but it's followed by some more familiar Earth-like grapes and apples.)

[scholiast]

(Lucretia can't help laughing at the sight of it, taking it from her.)

What is this, exactly?

(It's so bright. Lucretia grabs her phone off the counter to take a picture of it for her records.)

[dancingmd]

I don't remember the name of it, but they had free samples out at the grocery store and it was really good! Almost like...a mango, if you've had one of them before?

[scholiast]

Oh, I love mango.

(And she hasn't had one in a long time, either. She turns the fruit over in her hands, thoughtfully.) I suppose we have to skin it, huh.

[dancingmd]

Yeah though ah... I admit I am not entirely sure how.

[scholiast]

(She chuckles, and sets it aside for now, deciding to start with something easier like the grapes.)

Might try again after the wine gives me some better ideas.

[dancingmd]

Oh, I see!

(Grinning she takes another sip of her own wine.)

Though I probably should warn you now: I'm a lightweight when it comes to real alcohol.

(The other part of that warning is that she's an enormous flirt when drunk. No doubt Lucretia will find that out soon enough, especially with the mystery vial's help.)

[scholiast]

I think I'm just a normalweight?

(She gives Beverly an over-exaggerated wink, and takes another slow sip of wine, trying to savour the flavour, figure out what exactly it is.)

But I suppose we'll find out.

[dancingmd]

(Find out they will, as in a few hours later, after some excitable and theatrical antics followed by good-natured teasing, Beverly is crashing. Curled up on the sofa in a happy warm drunk state, it's clear she's not going home any time soon. Nor does she particularly want to. The later it gets, the more and more appealing Lucretia's bed in the other room is becoming. Preferably with Lucretia in it.)

You haven't shown me your room yet, you know.

[scholiast]

Oh, (Lucretia says in a huff of breath, pushing herself up from the couch where she's cushioned on her side, facing Beverly,) well, you should come and see it, then.

(There's no question about Beverly staying the night: Lucretia wouldn't dream of asking her to leave. Doesn't want to, either. She'll offer her bed and come out to the couch, but there's a tiny, fluttery part of her that's hoping Beverly won't mind just sharing her bed. It's much more like a sleepover that way.)

And I don't know about you, but I'm tired. (She stands, and offers Beverly a hand.) You're staying here, right?
