[ Steve looks like he's had more fun that he actually has. He did enjoy the music, and the parade so far has been a nice display to take in without becoming too visible in the crowd, but the man is wet and covered in glitter from the various floats and celebrating riders. He looks like he's trying to dress up for a rave himself, but with no experience, and when he sees someone he recognizes or notices people around him looking his way, Steve smiles and shrugs. No, he doesn't know how he got in this state. ]

[ While Steve isn't diving into the various activities and club displays put on for the carnivale, he is wandering around during the event and doesn't actively avoid the more sexually open areas. The people seem happy to explore different aspects of pleasure and he can't find anything intrinsically wrong with it. He doesn't really know how to approach the exhibitions, so he drifts on the outskirts, looking in on different clubs curiously and occasionally testing out different samples of food when he finds them. Over time, he relaxes into it, even going into a few clubs to see what the themes are about. The costumes are more entertaining than anything for him. ]
I guess distraction is one way to win.

[ It's only sugar and a good time. The man does have a point, Steve knows, but he's always been more focused on the job than fun. When he does get the chance, it almost feels like cheating somehow, or like he's wasting time better spent on looking after other people. But Steve can't deny that he likes this. He takes the drink against his better judgment, giving the sparks a dubious look. ]

To be honest, part of it is wistful thinking. He’s here to observe and learn, and he can be rather prude at times so random people he doesn’t know offering things that make him go read to his ears isn’t exactly a pleasant experience, so he really is hoping having a very attractive and tall woman by his side will stop that to some degree. If he can help Re-L with the same problem at the same time then he will take it.
But to any onlookers, Illya is probably the one who looks the most comfortable of the two. For a spy he never quite perfected a poker face… he would never put a mission in danger but he’s always been better hiding in the sidelines and waiting to strike than putting a mask on. Even a mask as simple as ‘this doesn’t make me uncomfortable’.
“I think that one was a bit of a failure.” He tilts his head, glancing at what looks to be particularly strong restrains. They look like they are made from metal, and the way they glint caught Illya’s eyes.
“But some other things are interesting.”

This would probably have been more easily accepted in the elevator, when he didn't have to wonder at the truth of it. Still, it's an opportunity she hasn't had in a while, either. To be unfiltered. And now here he is, the one person who can't and won't betray her confidence. Mutually assured destruction.
"You know, sometimes being hurt a little is part of the fun, too. If you're worried about your back, though, this might be more your speed. What shape are your knees in?" She shows him another page, still complicated, but putting pressure on entirely different parts of the body. In her mind the assumption is that he will be the one tied up. That is very clear.

Having met her when he was forced to be honest makes this a little more intense than what he had expected, but the topic of the conversation makes it easy for him to put his focus elsewhere.
“My knees are fine.” He says, apparently unconcerned with her assuming he would be the one tied up. He knows that Nat wouldn’t make him fun of him for it, and everyone else seems to be focused on their own “research” to pay attention to them so why bother denying it?
“But someone would have to be very skilled indeed to be able to tie me up in a way that would actually restrain me.”
