for illya

"Alexei," she repeats, speaking the unfamiliar name for her own benefit rather than any confirmation that she heard him. Her gaze slips over to the stand with the sweets and she considers it briefly before shaking her head.

"If I wanted to dance I would be dancing," she says with a little tilt of her lips. Nothing keeps her from dancing but herself and the odd mission or two. "Sweet sounds good maybe not for food...do you see any of those booths with the meat skewers? They had them out here the other day I could have sworn..."

It'd be refreshing and she likes having something to occupy her hands most of the time. At least, things that she won't mind dropping quickly if need be. Even in a festival it's hard not to feel on duty. Prepared for any eventuality no matter how remote.

Well, she’s got a point. It’s not like Illya even asked her to do this, so if she wanted to be dancing then she only had to go get someone who actually wanted to dance. He still wonders what she’s getting out of this, though. But that’s how Illya’s mind works: nobody does anything just out of the goodness of their hearts, there’s always a catch and he hasn’t found Bryn’s yet. But that’s fine, he’s a curious man but he can also be very patient.

“I saw some earlier, we can get some.” He’s definitely not picky at all, and he’s become even less picky since he came here. Russian food is hard to come by, after all so he’s learned to adapt like he always does.

“So if you’re not looking for someone to dance with, what are you looking for?” He tilts his head. “Were you waiting to find someone to save from being slightly social?”

It’s very clear from his tone that he’s teasing, but it’s also pretty clear that he’s very curious as well.

If there's one thing that Bryn has become well aware of in Riverside it's that people are surprisingly all too eager to speak about themselves, to answer question after question she asks of them. It makes Bryn's job easier, learning about people and worlds connected to this one through the portal, gathering all of that intel for a rainy day.

The ones who seem to ask her as many questions as she does, however, those are the ones who get her attention. Who stand out to her.

"When they have events like these I like to wander through the party areas, watch everyone, see what strikes me. Sometimes I join in, sometimes I don't," she says airly. "Sometimes my heroic impulses take over and I find myself leaping to the rescue. Though I don't often find someone who needs it here. Just can't stay away despite the risk?"

Then she will definitely find Illya interesting for now, since he’s the kind of person who will let others talk endlessly about themselves as long as it allows him to not reveal anything about his own life. He’d be a pretty bad spy otherwise, but it’s more than that. He’s just a naturally curious man, he likes knowing as much as he can about the people around him, especially in a strange place like this.

And yes, he’s been here for a few months already by now but it’s going to take a little longer than that for him to stop considering this place ‘strange’.

“If you meant me, I didn’t need rescue.” He’s quick to remark because excuse you, he definitely didn’t. It’s true, he manages just fine glaring at everyone until they leave him alone but if he had needed the help he wouldn’t really have admitted it anyway.

“So you come here with no expectations. I guess that’s the best way to not be disappointed.” He motions at a food stand with some meat skewers like the ones she had mentioned earlier. He lets her have first choice, because that’s what a gentleman is supposed to do.

“They just seem to enjoy partying so much. It’s always one dance or another. But I meet people here, so I should not complain.”
