[He bristles a bit at that; his smile becomes a bit tighter, but it stays there.]

Fine, I'll keep my compliments to myself.

[He doesn't comment on the rest. He knows it's pathetic. He knows no sane person would want to be enslaved as much as he does. But he also knows that he couldn't care less how strange or pathetic he is, he just wants what he wants. He wants Reaper.]

I'm not here to push your buttons. I just want to get your approval back.

[If he even had it in the first place.]

Didn't ask for compliments.

[Reaper gives the other a look--one he cant see from under his mask. It betrays little emotion to the other, so Dodger really can't see what sort of expression he's wearing under it.

He gives a low sound, almost like a laugh.]

Then stop doing things to push my buttons, and I'll consider letting you hang around.

Consider.

[He emphasizes that last word with a low, haunting growl--the red of his eyes almost flashing under the hollows of his mask.]

[That's enough for him... and he tips his head slowly as he watches Reaper.]

Just make a note when I do something that pisses you off, and I'll stop.

[For once, he seems to be serious about it. No mischievous grin, no moving past his personal space, no calling him Gabe. He even holds back the itch to say something off-putting, for the sake of Reaper taking him seriously.]

[He'd have to admit, this is a little unexpected.

Strange, would be the best way to describe it. He looks at Dodger, almost like he's trying to puzzle him out, before just going ahead and saying it:]

You're weirdly determined about this.

The hell made you have a change of heart all of a sudden?

I hardly think you're trying to change as a person.

I'm not.

[He tips his head, watching Reaper carefully. Honestly, he's a little annoyed that he's being seen as someone that just plays games to the end of getting himself hurt... but he guesses without the reputation from his home world, that's what he must come off as.]

I like men who enjoy the challenge of breaking someone. But that's not the type of person you are - so playing you like one is only going end badly for me. And besides, I'm more interested in our... friendship... than you are. So we're playing by your rules.

[Really, at the end of the day, that's all it is. He's being the version of himself he has to be to keep Reaper's interest, just like he's done for every other boss before.]
