[Thor's hand twitches, as if he wants to insist on the offer and see her powers for himself.

Maybe not today. Or ever.]

Good of you to warn me. [He raises his hand to rub his wrist idly as he speaks. As is habit for him.]

Is that a burden or an attribute?

I have found it does not go well if I do not warn people.

[Mantis drinks a bit more of the lemon drink and she's starting to get used to the tartness, and even like it a bit, but it still tastes foreign to her. To her delight she is starting to feel a hint of something fuzzy at the edges of her consciousness. Could it be the alcohol finally taking effect? ...or perhaps she is just getting sleepy. It is hard for her to tell.

Thor's question takes her completely off-guard and she blinks at him.]

I do not...know. I think it is an ability. It is sometimes useful and sometimes- [She pauses here to shrug slightly.] Sometimes it is not.

[Thor almost forgot about the drink in his hand, until Mantis drinking reminds him. He knocks back the whole thing in one gulp, dumping the plastic cup into a nearby receptacle.]

Then you've learned to use it to your advantage? Or are you more dedicated to the aid of others? [It's not accusatory, he's genuinely curious. His powers are.. vastly different.]

[Mantis watches Thor down his drink, and realizes, of course the reason she never felt anything was indeed because she had been drinking too slow.

So she copies him, and finishes the rest of the lemon drink as she had the strawberry. This one is a little fizzy, and tickles a lot more when it goes down.

This is fine. She is absolutely listening.]

I have only recently used it for anyone besides my master! [Was that too loud? That might have been too loud. Mantis isn't sure.] I would like to be helpful to people now instead!

[And that is definitely true. And why she has made every single decision that she has made since the Big one.]

[Thor looks momentarily impressed by the way Mantis replicates his actions. He respects her, although he wonders if she can handle knocking it back.

Regardless, he's quick to sweep purple, icy drinks off yet another platter and passes one on to her. He understands that non-Asgardians can't withstand the same amount of alcohol as him, but he's not really sure what sort of being she is.]

Did your Master use you for selfish gain? For sinister purposes? [He's not really sure how it can be done, but he's imagining something bad here.]

I'm sure you will have ample opportunity to help, here. Many people don't understand even their own feelings, I'm sure there is value in it. [The voice says yes and the facial expression says how.]

[To be honest, Mantis has no idea how many of these drinks she will need to experience any effects, or how many will put her under the table so to speak. In point of fact, there really is only one way to find out. She takes the drink that is now purple from Thor, but rather than drink it immediately she smells it first. It is becoming a habit to smell everything food-related, if only because the smells are so unrecognizable.]

I do not know! [She's definitely louder than usual, though whether it is from trying to out-volume the nearby music, or a spark of something from the drinks, it is hard to tell.] He wished to take over the universe. I mostly helped him to sleep.

[Nothing to be concerned about here, surely. Still, she had at least some semblance of a plan.]

I will keep trying to find a new purpose!

You can help people sleep? [Thor is intrigued, as ever.] You may find a new purpose in that. Many people struggle with restful sleep- particularly the battle hardened sort.

[feelybug]

It is part of my powers. [Mantis sips her drink, her thoughts on his words.] I had not considered they may be of use. I have tried not to use them unless I am asked, but I am able to control the emotional state of most other beings.

[Her attention is peaked by his question, however. She rarely sleeps herself, but that is mostly because she does not need much. She wonders if others struggle with thoughts of their progeny as Ego had.] Do you have trouble sleeping?

[The more Thor learns, the more he begins to think he may have underestimated her. He's actually a little concerned about what might happen if she were influenced by people who wanted her to do more than help them sleep.]

It's not high on the list of things I ought to deal with, but I've not slept as well as I did when I was young for hundreds of years now. [But he wonders.] Can you use your powers on yourself?

[Listening, Mantis nods, some part of her internally sizing up the tall blond man who seemed to have so many questions. She is finding that she rather likes answering them, and it is a change from asking them all herself.

And not only has no one ever asked her that question but...]

I have never thought to try it before. [And now, she wonders why she has not.] I am not sure that it will work very well. I must concentrate to inflict a feeling, if I am inflicting one on myself, it will break my concentration and then I will no longer be concentrating, and I will no longer feel it. I am only able to affect others for a short while...
