001 - August Happenings! [OPEN]

Library/Coffee Shop[Open]
Kate had taken Cisco's advice and started taking part time classes while in quarantine. She doesn't have a specific plan for the future but she's having fun and doing something with her time besides working. She's decided to take calculus, a mechanics course with a Lab component and anthropology. Being overly studious meant that she wanted to get ahead before her classes even started. She could be found at the library or at a coffee house taking up a table with notes, textbooks and random post-its.
She's wearing plaid with a tank-top underneath and a plan pair of jeans. She's mindful of those around her while also remaining focused on her task. Besides textbooks she has what looks like a safe lock at her table that she's occasionally fiddling with. In a strange way picking and resetting the tumblers in the lock helped her relax and focus.
There are things that she didn't want to forget and bit by bit she felt them slipping away; maybe she just didn't want a normal life anymore.
The Quarantine[Open]
Kate didn't know what kind of bar the Quarantine was going to be but it didn't really matter. Her goal was to visit Drew while he was working. She had managed to get a job as a waitress with a boss who was willing to train her as a bartender but she still wanted to do some research on her own.
She wasn't dressed to be at a bar, wearing a cardigan and a pair of jeans, but she was open to talking to those around her. There was a light orange drink in front of her that sat mostly untouched. She wanted to try it and learn what was inside of it but she could only taste the sugar on her tongue.
Kate's thoughts twisted and wandered, wondering if bartenders had to know about wine or beer or if it was just mixed drinks. She played with a small plastic sword that had been in her drink with a cherry before she ate it. She wasn't looking to get drunk but Kate really wasn't an expert drinker.

Auction Date
CLOSED TO JAY; August 4th
The air was cooling as the sun set though it was still summer and hot muggy weather had fallen over the city. Kate was dressed in a cute outfit that she was able to move around in. As always, she wore her silver cross around her neck. It was the one piece of jewelry that she never took off.
She watched the city as she waited, observing those who walked by and smiling at anyone she made contact with.
no subject
"Sorry if I kept you waiting." He wasn't, hell he was exactly on time. Jay was almost never late when a time was set for something. But seeing her waiting he felt like maybe somehow he was late. "So, I'm yours as long as you'd like tonight, any plans or am I running the show?" he had to ask, honestly he expected he had to pick the date but better to ask than assume.
no subject
Kate had a plan. "We have a place to be in fifteen minutes but you can decide what we do after that." She left the later hours open because she didn't know how long Jason would want to roller-skate or if there was a place that he preferred to eat at.
She held out her hand for him to take. "Ready to go?"
no subject
"Sounds good to me. I'm pretty easy." he offered thinking about how strange it felt giving over control to someone else.
no subject
"Just let me know if you're having fun. If not we can do something else." Kate liked to think that she was flexible.
Two blocks down and three blocks to the left was where Kate was taking him. There wasn't a big indication of what the place was outside. The sign read 'RollerRink' but the R's, L's and E were out making the sign look like ' o ink'
When they stepped inside it was loud with a combination of music, plastic hitting hardwood and laughter. The smells were an odd mix of wheel oil, greasy pizza and Churros. "So." She looked up at Jay. "What's your shoe size?"
no subject
"I trust your judgement." He could use some normal fun, even if the last month had been more normal than he was accustomed to. When Jason realized where they were going he grinned and spoke in a funny voice. "Oink Oink." Totally playing like a child would. His face lit up as he made the joke and playfully nudged her side.
The smells inside hit him, he'd never spent much time in roller rinks, he knew how to skate of course but most of his early life was far from what one would call normal. He looked around in amazement when Kate asked the question. "Uh, 13's?" He replied before remembering they'd have to wear skates. He smiled at her then. "This is amazing."
no subject
"I am happy you think so. I'll be right back." She wandered over to the counter, allowing Jason time to check out the area around the rink. When she came back she was holding two pairs of roller blades, one pair significantly bigger than the other.
"Here." She handed them out to him before gesturing towards the bench area. "We can change here and put our shoes in a locker." They had keys on some of the lockers, indicating that those were open for use. Kate lead the way towards the benches and began to slip off her shoes for the rollerblades.
She was really happy that Jason was having a good time. "I should war you. I'm probably going to fall a lot." She wasn't the greatest at rollerblading.
no subject
He reached out for the smaller pair first before playfully winking and taking the larger pair. Making quick work of lacing them up before easing his pants leg back over the top like he had his shoes. Sitting his boots aside he waited for her. "I can take your shoes for you, and don't worry, I used to do this back on the block." They were stolen most likely but before Willis was arrested he had been as normal as a kid from the Alley could be. "I'll catch you."
no subject
She pushed herself to her feet, taking a moment to find her balance. "Won't we both fall over if you try and catch me?" Her smile and tone suggested that she was either teasing or waiting for him to prove her wrong.
"Here" Kate held out her hand to Jason. "This way we can get used to it." And if they go down they'll go down together.
no subject
But it was fun.
no subject
"Whoa!"
Maybe Kate should have picked something she was better at. After a while suggested they paused and took a break. "Are you good at everything?" She asked with a smile.
no subject
Jason laughed at that, once the shoes were ditched, helping lead them both towards the ring. "Oh hell no, I'm terrible at a lot of things, Kitty-kat." He teased. "I'm just bad at things normal people are good at. This here is just natural skill."
no subject
Kate's hand stayed in Jason's as they began to skate around the rink. She had to keep focusing to keep her balance or she would have fallen on her face the moment their wheels rolled across the slick surface. Bit by bit, she got better but it took some time for her to be able to stand without worrying about falling.
no subject
He held her hands to keep her balanced, not as stable now that the floor was sick but he didn't look ready to fall.
no subject
"So you know that." She teased a little bit. "So when you want to get better at those things. You know you can." Kate had faith in him.
"Thanks for holding me up." Kate laughed a little breathlessly as the wheels to her skate guided her forward. "Are you having fun?" She hoped so. It looked so much easier to him. Maybe she should find something harder next time… not that Kate expected there to be a next time but they could hang out and find things to do.
no subject
He had no faith in himself, he was mostly bravado. He would never admit that though. "No problem, I gotta use these arms for something right?" the smile eased back before he nodded. "Yeah, I am. Its kind of nice to just relax and have fun."
no subject
Kate looked up at him with a kind smile. "I won't push you or anything like that. This is a date. It's supposed to be fun right." She laughed while trying to stand up straight on her skates but only managed to fall back against Jason again. It was a good thing that he had more balance than her. "I learned some Spanish but that was because I've spent the last half year in Mexico." Not including a brief point in time where she managed to go home to Texas.
Crossing the board wasn't that hard with a passport and a cute smile.
no subject
"Yeah, and we are arent we" He wanted to be sure after all. Jason shifted to catch he, shifting one of his feet to break himself to catch her and help balance her again. "Immersion is the best way to learn. One of my dads old buddies taught me a bit of spanish to keep mom from getting ripped off. But the rest I learned after she died. Curiously what took you to mexico?"
Jay didn't have a legit passport, all of his papers are fake.
no subject
"My dad." It had been a lie but she wasn't sure how much of it interested Jason. "He had wanted to get away and took my brother and me out of school. That was months ago." It was almost a year ago now that a birthday had come and gone. "He quit his job too. There was a lot going on and I didn't learn about it until the trip." This wasn't exactly a date conversation. "And it wasn't much of a vacation. Have you ever been out of the country?"
He knew English so well that she just assumed that he was from somewhere in the United States.
[Closed to Eddie Thawne]
It's a late night before Kate was able to leave and head home. She didn't think anything of it. She was used to being out after dark and oddly comfortable walking between the pools of lamp light that filled the streets. Her arms wrapped around her torso despite the warmth of the season drifting through the city streets.
She heard the sound of a trashcan clattering to the ground and turned towards the source of the noise. The street was empty, sending a chill down her spine. A frown pulled at her lips as she turned back to her path, running into the figure that had filled the space in front of her. She felt his hand wrap around her arm and heard a voice in her ear while alcohol laced breath puffed in her face. 'What cha doin' out so late?' The strangers words slurred together and when he didn't let go Kate stomped her heel on his foot.
The force was enough to release her but he continued to step forward. "Get away from me." Kate's voice was tense, her eyes glaring at the man blocking her path. She had tenacity but the stranger was much bigger than she was.
no subject
So when he sees a young girl on the street, standing just outside the pool of light cast by one of the street lights, with a guy's hand on her arm, a nasty expression on his face, Eddie's jaw tenses. As he moves closer, speeding up his pace, he loosens his gun in its holster, prepared for action, and when he sees the girl stomp on the guy's foot, break away from him and stand her ground against the odds, Eddie's suddenly jogging up.
"Hey, hey. What seems to be the trouble?"
It's impossible to miss that his hand is on his gun.
no subject
Kate wasn't a fan of backing down. Even if she didn't have the skills or weapons to defend herself she'd stand her ground.
The stranger took a little bit longer to register that not only did Eddie have a gun but that he was silently threatening to use it. He looked as if he'd been rudely interrupted and that it was not at all his fault. He turned more towards Eddie, the alcohol making his movements slow and disjointed. "What are you going to do?" The man asked Eddie, slurring his words together while completely ignoring Kate.
no subject
Thankfully, the guy turns his attention to Eddie instead of the girl, and the moment it's there, Eddie puffs his chest out, squares his shoulders, makes himself masculine and intimidating and completely distracting. And while he talks, he starts moving, to put himself between the guy and the young girl he was menacing.
"That really all depends on whether you're going to keep bothering her, or if you're going to move along peacefully. I'm a police officer, so if you decide to keep harassing a girl in the street at night, I'll do whatever it takes to get you tossed in the drunk tank at best, and prison at worst."
no subject
Alone, Kate wouldn't have been enough to deter the man. Eddie however, was a different story. He was larger and had the police backing him up. The stranger lifted his palms towards Eddie, implying that he wasn't going to do anything, before turning and stumbling down the street in the opposite direction.
Looking at Eddie's back reminded Kate of Freddie and his efforts to protect her. That had been a different time and a different situation. They had been after different things and both had been willing to go through great lengths to completely their goals. Kate's didn't end so well.
"Thank you." She spoke softly, her words holding back anger more than fear. A drunk man was not scary after the things that kate had seen.
no subject
The girl thanks him, her voice quiet and restrained, and he isn't sure if she's afraid or angry or what else might be going on under the surface. But she has the presence of mind to be restrained, and that speaks well of her. She isn't panicking, it's not too overwhelming for her.
Smiling a little, Eddie walks back to her, holding out a hand, "You're welcome. Are you okay?"
no subject
Light green eyes turned up towards Eddie as a thin smile pulled over her lips. "I'm fine. He didn't have time to do anything." And she was ready to kick him in the groin if he had.
Kate held out her hand to Eddie. "I'm Kate."
no subject
Smiling warmly at her, he takes her hand and gives it a shake, firm but gentle.
"Nice to meet you Kate. I'm Eddie, Eddie Thawne. I'm a Detective with the RPD."
Tilting his head, his expression shifting a little sheepish, "Would you mind if I walked you home? If I don't, I'm going to worry about you all night."
no subject
"Eddie. I'll make sure to remember if I ever run into trouble again." He reminded her a little bit of the Eddie she knew though not as tense as the Peace Keeper. "You know, you're the second person named Eddie I've met in law enforcement. It was before I came here." So he knew that there wasn't another man named Eddie walking around Quarantine.
At his request, Kate nodded. "Yeah, I lived in the communal housing. It isn't far but… honestly," She exhaled, flashing him a smile. "I would really like the company. Work has me out late and the walk home is always a little tense." It didn't help that she had run-ins with vampires before arriving in Quarantine. The dark held rough memories for her.
no subject
When she says that she'll remember his name if she runs into trouble again, he gives her a little grin, "Good. I'm glad. And...oh really? Maybe it's a cop name." The little grin widens a bit, "I hope he wasn't a bad cop."
As they continue and she mentions where she lives, Eddie starts moving in that direction, his eyes on her, making sure she seems to be moving comfortably under her own strength.
"Where do you work? Maybe before we part ways, I can give you my contact info, and if you're ever feeling too tense, I'll come and walk you."
no subject
It wasn't a hard walk though Kate's eyes continued to look around them as they made their way to her home. Learning about the creatures that went bump in the night made her more cautious come sunset.
"Lux. It's a bar owned by Lucifer." Which was why she was walking home so late. "I don't drink a lot or anything like that but I like working there." It reminds her of Mexico which was both terrifying and comforting at the same time. At least she knew that her boss had the power to stop vampires from eating the populace of the bar and Lucifer would probably agree that it was bad for business.
Library (August 15)
Though he'd been provided other clothing, and they even fit, and even though he'd been given the funds to purchase more, and even though he'd bought clean pants and shirts (dark in color), he still wore the cloak. It was a part of him, a comfort, and a reminder of home. It was fortunate there were so many beings here from so many different worlds meant he received few stares, not that Vincent would have minded in the first place.
As he made his way into the library, he wandered. He didn't have a specific destination in mind. More than anything, he wanted to see what this place had to offer. It was the sounds of the lock tumblers clicking that caught his attention as his crimson eyes scanned the titles along a bookshelf near Kate's table and he stepped from its shadows to investigate.
Ah. They'd met at the beach, and...they'd spoken. He found himself wondering what she was doing.
"Kate."
Library (August 15)
Her chin lifted when she heard the deep familiar voice speak. A light smile pulled at her lips as she regarded him, "It's good to see you again." Kate was happy to see him again. She had enjoyed their conversation under the fireworks, even if it had been brief. She felt comfortable around Vincent.
"Are you searching for something in particular?" He was at a library after all.
Kate placed the lock tumbler on the table before stacking and pushing some of her things to the side to give Vincent room if he wanted to sit.
Library (August 15)
When she made her greeting, he found himself agreeing. "You too." And he meant it. He gave a gentle shake of his head at her question, though. While he had a vague sort of idea, he wasn't looking for anything specific.
"No. I've just...heard things about this place."
Library (August 15)
She honestly didn't know what rumors there were about the library. She came here to grab things for her classes but they were usually references books and materials that she could use to look up something specific. She hadn't thought to look past that. "What sort of things?" She asked as she continued to shift around and clean up some of her papers.
Kate was in an odd place, she was trying to find something she was good at or something she could do but wasn't having any luck in it. Her life had changed and now she didn't know which way she wanted it to go.
Library (August 15)
Still, his eyes flitted to the lock she was fumbling with before looking back to her. "What are you doing here?"
He didn't mean for his tone to sound accusatory or like an interrogation, but unfortunately, Vincent had a habit of sounding that way regardless.
Library (August 15)
Vincent's directness didn't bother Kate. She was the sort of person who would only answer the questions she wanted to answer, regardless of how they were asked, and she had a feeling that Vincent was out of practice when it came to social norms.
"I was studying." She picked up the lock and began to rocking between her palms. "Playing with the tumblers in the lock help me focus and think." It was a fun exercise and she felt proud when she was able to pick the lock.
Library (August 15)
"No, but it could be useful."
Studying. It hadn't occurred to Vincent until this moment that anything normal may be occurring here.
"...you're a student." It was a question, but it wasn't stated as such.
Library (August 15)
There are too many guesses.
"In a sense." She spoke softly, her fingers gently running along the metal lock. "I didn't get a chance to go to college before." There were many things that Kate didn't get the chance to do. "I didn't plan for the future. Now I'm trying to figure out what to do and what I like. I signed up for Archology and Engineering classes to start."
It wasn't anything fancy and Kate was ahead enough in her studies to already know about a fourth of the subject matter but it was interesting to learn about new things. "I've been told there are a lot of ruins here. I thought maybe there might be an answer out there." Though, she'd have few ways to protect herself if she ever left the city proper.
Library (August 15)
Archeology made sense, given there being so many ruins, but he also found himself curious as to what she thought she'd find. So many in Kate's position would give up, seeing nothing in their future, assume there was nothing worth fighting for after death had taken them, lamented their lot in the afterlife. Vincent figured he'd probably be among them.
Kate was an admirable woman, whether she realized it or not. "So...you want to find answers? Answers to what?"
Library (August 15)
How could it suddenly stop working? Why? There were pieces of the puzzle that were shrouded in uncertainty.
"This is a moon with pieces of many other worlds. It's possible to have ruins from other worlds too." Kate was considering a lot of possibilities.
Library (August 15)
All scientists, at least those left uncorrupted by the pursuit of power, shared that innocence, that sparkle of desire to know, that spurred them on, even when answers seemed always just beyond their reach.
"You...have a scientific mind." Vincent never had. It was one of the many bolts driven between himself and his father, even before his death.
Library (August 15)
"Thank you." She smiled at him.
"What about you? What would you look for?"
