It's a late night before Kate was able to leave and head home. She didn't think anything of it. She was used to being out after dark and oddly comfortable walking between the pools of lamp light that filled the streets. She heard the sound of a trashcan clattering to the ground and turned towards the source of the noise. The street was empty, sending a chill down her spine. A frown pulled at her lips as she turned back to her path, running into the figure that had filled the space in front of her. She felt his hand wrap around her arm and heard a voice in her ear while alcohol laced breath puffed in her face. 'What cha doin' out so late?' The strangers words slurred together and when he didn't let go Kate stomped her heel on his foot.
The force was enough to release her but he continued to step forward. "Get away from me." Kate's voice was tense, her eyes glaring at the man blocking her path. She had tenacity but the stranger was much bigger than she was.
