who: Rey and You
what: Rey training and dealing with losing two people from her world. Not dealing with feelings
when: Mid day
where: Training area of Perimeter Guard.
warnings: None, will update as needed
It was hard to deal with loss. First it was Obi Wan, the one person who could help her with understanding what it meant to be a Jedi and help her understand the Force more. Then, it was Poe. Two different people who meant something to her. Though, she didn't know Obi Wan too well, she considered him a friend and the only link she had to figuring out what she needed to do. She wanted to become stronger, to be able to fight Kylo Ren if (or when) she was able to leave back to her world. It weighed heavily on her that she was supposed to go to Ahch-To to find Luke and bring him to the Resistance. They were counting on her, and she was....she was here.
For Poe, he was a friend and someone she took comfort from. Someone who came from her point in time, more or less, and knew what the Resistance was facing. He had said she had been here before, which didn't make sense to her...and now he was gone. She should've done more, contacted him and checked in on him to make sure he was okay. She tried telling herself that it was for the better, the Resistance needed their best pilot back.
Rey doesn't know how to deal with the loss in any other way other than to keep moving. To keep going forward and focus on a goal. She could figure out a way to train with the Force later, but she needs to be able to fight with a single blade. Fighting with a staff was easy, it came as second nature to her, but something like a sword or a lightsaber was different. So, she went to the training area of the Perimeter Guard to try and train. She went for a practice staff, practicing on a dummy first to warm up. Later, she would try to practice with a sword unless someone offers to spar with her instead....
For Alec/Jace:
When Rey got to the training grounds, she briefly shot a message over to Alec and Jace, letting them know she was already there. She had brought up the idea of sparring with Alec, something for him to take his mind off of things. He mentioned Jace, so it was decided they would all train together. It didn't matter to her who showed up first or if they came together. It would be interesting to train with either of them, considering from their world they were warriors. Plus, Jace was supposed to be great with training someone, especially when it came to handling a sword.
For now, she'd wait by the mat, her eyes scanning the room for any sign of them and looking down at her phone to see if they sent her a test.

He's aware this is likely harder on Rey, considering how close she was to Poe, and that he was a friend of hers from home. He's been meaning to check in on her, even if it's just to catch up on things and make sure she's settling in on the guard. When he spots her at the training grounds, it seems as good a time as any.
"Hey," he says by way of greeting, also wanting to make his presence known. She's practicing on a dummy with a staff, so he makes sure to keep to the sidelines. "How're you doing?"
no subject
It wasn't until he was closer that she hears his question and comes to a stop. She pushes a few wisps of her away from her face.
"I'm fine." The words slip out easily enough. No hesitation, no mention of the feelings bottled up in her.
"You? Heard you finished the shuttle."
no subject
"I did, actually. You should come check it out sometime," he gestures a hand vaguely at her, walking around the training mat. "There are plenty of vacancies, you know. If you ever feel like joining the aerial branch of the guard."
no subject
"I should. I don't think you mentioned what colors you'd paint her with." Or what design he'd have on her. The notion of becoming part of the aerial branch of the guard made her pause...
"You mean like piloting the shuttle?" Something that she had been wanting to do, expand upon her piloting skills. Something....something that Poe would've jumped at the chance for.
no subject
"You should come by and see. She's looking pretty stylish, if I may say so myself," he says with a vague air of humor, brow raising at her question, and the faint surprise in her tone.
"Yes, of course. Among other things. I assume you can pilot shuttles, but if not I can always teach you."

When she went for the sword, he approached her. "It's better when you train against someone instead of a figurine with those." Ivar had lots of experience using one as the sword strapped to his side would testify. Despite the disadvantage his legs provided, he often battled his brothers to a draw, if not beating them outright when they sparred.
no subject
"You offering?" she asked, not opposed to having him spar with her. It would be interesting to say the least, and he most likely wouldn't hold back.
"I've only used something like this once, but if you're willing to teach me...I'd be very grateful."
no subject
He looks over her sword with a serious, critical eye. There's no joking around or sarcasm now. Weapons are serious business. "Can you lift it easily? It won't do you any good to practice with a sword that's too heavy." Vikings preferred a one-handed style, keeping their free hand available to use a shield or knife. Ivar tended to lean towards the latter. Being nearly immobile meant a shield did him little good on the field of battle.
no subject
"I can, yes. This..." she looked down at the practice blade she had. "Is more or less the same type of sword I used. It's something I should get myself familiar with..unless you're thinking I should practice something else?" Practice with something heavier to build up her strength? She knows in terms of movement, fighting with a staff and sword, the movements were greatly different.
no subject
"No, keep what's familiar to you. As long as you can swing the blade without struggling, that's what is important. Now, let's see what you have." He held his sword up one-handed, extending the blade outwards like it was an extension of his arm. There was a look of challenge on his face. He wasn't going to go easy on Rey, but he didn't expect her to be a pushover either.

The weapons were glamoured so no Mundanes would notice them. He didn't bother hiding his marks. There was so much variety in the city that no one seemed to think the black symbols on his skin were weird. As he entered the training area, he checked the weapons racks, noting which Jace might prefer if they decided to show off their training before he headed for Rey. When Alec was sure that he had her attention, he shrugged one shoulder, letting the bow and quiver flicker into sight. "I hope you weren't waiting too long."
no subject
"Don't think I was.." Really, she hadn't been paying attention to the time.
"You ready?"
no subject
It didn't take him long to get to the training area, carrying only the bamboo staffs he and Izzy used to spar and his stele. He could improvise with whatever was on hand.
"I am!" he announced, giving the weapons rack a glance before joining Alec.
no subject
"Bamboo instead of steel? I'm disappointed." Wood was safer when they were training with someone that they didn't know but if they were showing off, then their usual blades would make more of an impact. "Sparring then I can show Rey my bow?"
no subject
"You don't mess around with training." She was a bit impressed, really. She would've been fine if they used the training weapons here.
"If you two want to go ahead and start, that's fine. I'm good with the dummy.." Could they tell she had energy to burn? A need to focus on something?

But she finds herself too curious to dismiss Rey's offer of what happens next.
Jyn doesn't ask Cassian if he's okay with it, she simply texts him that Rey is coming over and they're going to eat the leftovers so he's probably going to have to make something else for dinner. They each have their own places, but Jyn's room is half the size of Cassian's so they've both sort of let her claim it.
Regardless, when she gets the incoming from Rey, she manages to heat up some type of rice and meat thing without burning down the building, leaving two servings to warm in the oven and opening the bag of sweet red cookies to nibble on while she waits for Rey.

At least some parts of the future. She wasn't going to tell them, after having sacrificing themselves for the cause, that from the ashes of the Empire rose a new threat. Rey had already made that mistake when Obi Wan was still there and it broke her heart to see him upset knowing that the rest of the Jedi were no more.
She went up to the floor Jyn and Cassian were on, bringing with her a small bag of cookies called Oreos. They were very delicious and hopefully Jyn and Cassian would like them. She came upon the door and knocked.
no subject
Which is why she doesn't smile but nods in welcome, pushing open the door and stepping back to invite the other woman in when she sees it's Rey.
"Cassian's out right now." But he might show up, she doesn't know. It's his apartment, not hers, and he knows she's there talking to Rey. Maybe he'll give them privacy, maybe he will come back to make sure Jyn doesn't eat all the red sugar cookies (too late!), maybe he will come back to nap and ignore them. Loads of options and Jyn only mentions it so if he does come back, Rey won't be surprised.
no subject
"Oh, okay." It doesn't matter to her if Cassian is there or not. Though, technically it was his home, but Jyn was there, so she assumed it was okay for both of them to be there. Either way she held up her small bag of cookies, offering it to Jyn.
"Thought I should bring something." Don't ask her why she did it, she doesn't even know why herself. But it's an olive branch in the form of food.
no subject
Jyn will never say no to free food? Literally ever, even if she has to go to the beach to get it. She takes the cookies easily, peering into the bag before...
Shoving one into her mouth whole.
Heroic rebel daughter of an Imperial saboteur, but also she's basically a child when it comes to food, chewing thoughtfully but looking pleased by the taste and texture and chocolate, oh boy the chocolate. Rey might need to rein her in so Cassian can try at least one, because she's already digging in the bag for another without having finished the first one.
She does, at least, manage to lead them to the couch and sit down while she's chewing, but she does not manage to say anything else since her mouth is so full.

The sound from the training ground catches his attention, though, and he heads over there, hands buried in his pockets. Leaning against the wall by the door, he watches the girl there for a few long minutes, brows slowly raising. When she pauses he lets out a long, slow, appreciative whistle.
"That was pretty impressive."
no subject
What she wasn't expecting was someone whistling at her and stealing her attention. She turned her head, eyebrows knitted together as she discovered someone had been watching her. Someone she didn't know.
"It was nothing." Her usual response, trying to play things down and keep to herself.
no subject
Shaking his head, he lifts a hand to push back through his shaggy dark brown hair, an obviously impressed expression on his face.
"Seriously though. You have this hand-to-hand thing totally down. I have been in a lot of battles, but man, I just swing my fists and knock guys out that way. No real fighting moves."
no subject
And then he was looking at her with a smile? How long had he been watching her?
"I wouldn't call it hand-to-hand. It's combat with a staff, than actual fists." Considering she was using a staff, a practice one, but not her actual hands. She knew when she needed to kick, when to strike, but nothing involving her hands too much.
"If you're looking to practice, you can have the mat." She was done for the moment anyway. Rey needed to have some water and a chance to cool down before attempting to try something else.

Marco's still leaning against the wall, despite the fact he knows it makes him look short, makes it obvious how slim he is. Thankfully, the years between 16 and 20 have graced him with a certain level of actual non-self-deprecating confidence that transcends worrying about how tall or muscular he is. Crossing his arms, he raises his brows when she suggests he take the mat.
"No way, not unless you want to teach me some moves. My fighting style doesn't really require a lot of, you know. Training or practice."
