who: Rey and You
what: Rey training and dealing with losing two people from her world. Not dealing with feelings
when: Mid day
where: Training area of Perimeter Guard.
warnings: None, will update as needed
It was hard to deal with loss. First it was Obi Wan, the one person who could help her with understanding what it meant to be a Jedi and help her understand the Force more. Then, it was Poe. Two different people who meant something to her. Though, she didn't know Obi Wan too well, she considered him a friend and the only link she had to figuring out what she needed to do. She wanted to become stronger, to be able to fight Kylo Ren if (or when) she was able to leave back to her world. It weighed heavily on her that she was supposed to go to Ahch-To to find Luke and bring him to the Resistance. They were counting on her, and she was....she was here.
For Poe, he was a friend and someone she took comfort from. Someone who came from her point in time, more or less, and knew what the Resistance was facing. He had said she had been here before, which didn't make sense to her...and now he was gone. She should've done more, contacted him and checked in on him to make sure he was okay. She tried telling herself that it was for the better, the Resistance needed their best pilot back.
Rey doesn't know how to deal with the loss in any other way other than to keep moving. To keep going forward and focus on a goal. She could figure out a way to train with the Force later, but she needs to be able to fight with a single blade. Fighting with a staff was easy, it came as second nature to her, but something like a sword or a lightsaber was different. So, she went to the training area of the Perimeter Guard to try and train. She went for a practice staff, practicing on a dummy first to warm up. Later, she would try to practice with a sword unless someone offers to spar with her instead....
For Alec/Jace:
When Rey got to the training grounds, she briefly shot a message over to Alec and Jace, letting them know she was already there. She had brought up the idea of sparring with Alec, something for him to take his mind off of things. He mentioned Jace, so it was decided they would all train together. It didn't matter to her who showed up first or if they came together. It would be interesting to train with either of them, considering from their world they were warriors. Plus, Jace was supposed to be great with training someone, especially when it came to handling a sword.
For now, she'd wait by the mat, her eyes scanning the room for any sign of them and looking down at her phone to see if they sent her a test.

Shrugging again, he smiles a bit as the girl tucks her hair behind her ear. It's pretty cute, and one corner of his mouth lifts a bit, the smile gets a bit more crooked.
"Can't say I've used a lot of guns, actually, so that is something I'd totally do. Too bad you don't teach, though, I could use some pointers. And too bad you're done. I was about to offer myself up for some moving target practice, if you wanted to do your thing."
no subject
"What kind?" she finds herself asking, loosely crossing her arms over her chest. She was partially curious to know if he was just trying to run his mouth, or if he'd actually done it. ...And what exactly was he smiling at?
"You'd want me to actually try and hit you?" With the practice staff? Or did this guy have some underlining interest in something else?
"I wouldn't want to hurt you." Yes, she was assuming she would be able to catch him and bring him down. Did he really want a story to how she and Finn met? A good whack to the head?
no subject
For a moment, he's quiet, his dark eyes suddenly sharp and intense, the smile still in place but with a certain cool edge as he reads her body language when he mentions Yeerks and Andalites. As far as Marco knows, neither of those species are here, but he's a paranoid guy by nature, he was before the war and he's even moreso after.
"And yeah. Try to hit me. Just give me a chance to uh...make a few changes...and I can take pretty much anything you throw at me."
no subject
But she does catch the sharp look in his eyes, as though he's expecting some kind of reaction. As long as neither species are involved with the First Order...she doesn't really care.
"You had to have driven it well enough to still be standing here." That's how she viewed flying the Falcon for the first time. A proud moment for sure, but she and Finn managed to survive.
As for what sort of 'changes' he'd have to do...that's when Rey decided to take a step back. No, she didn't want to know. Best to keep to herself.
"No, I'd rather not hurt you. It's fine."
no subject
"Yeah, well. What can I say, I'm multi-talented."
A smug grin, and he pushes away from the wall, walking over toward her.
"The whole flying a spaceship thing is why I'm in the Perimeter Guard, actually. I signed up for that shuttle team, because just lounging around my mansion got boring, you know? Anyway, yeah, I don't want you to hurt me either, but believe me, I can just get rid of it, as long as you don't kill me. Easy as a snap."
no subject
Instead of walking away from him, he decides it's a better idea to simply follow her. So he was part of the Guard, the new shuttle division. No doubt he was recruited by Jim. And throwing out the part where he lives in a big home was....weird. She didn't need to know that part.
"You've spoken to Jim then, good. I know he was looking for people." And if Poe was here--no, focus. She can't dwell on the past.
"So you want to run around me, and then in the process disarm me? Is that right?" Because it sounded like all he wanted to do was get her attention and keep talking to her. Why? What could he possibly want? Did he want a bop to the head that badly?

With a little shrug, Marco purses his lips and watches her as she seems to size him up. She's different than most girls he's met around here. Quiet, serious, a little awkward, totally oblivious to his flirting. It's a little weird, honestly, but he can't help but sort of like it.
"Not really. It's just been a while since I actually fought, thought it might be good to scrape off the rust."
Tilting his head to the side, he stretches out his neck, rolls his shoulders a bit.
"So, I have a serious question for you. How much does weird body horror bug you?"
no subject
Rey was being herself and not pretending to be something she wasn’t. She was different because of where she grew up, not that she would tell people out right that. But, she did handle herself differently; serious and not one to pick up on flirting or flirt back. Or even attempt such a thing.
“Uh-huh...” a confusing person, considering he didn’t really have a fighting style? Or was it that he didn’t know how to fight?
“Body horror? You mean like finding a decaying body?” Just where was he going with this? “If it’s something gruesome then, I don’t want to see it.” Who in their right mind would?!
no subject
Marco's genuinely curious, because it's always nice to swap stories with someone else who's seen a lot of weird stuff. He also notices that she seems interested in piloting, which makes one corner of his mouth perks up, his smile a little crooked. Interesting. Very interesting.
Shaking his head when she comments about body horror, asking what it is, he makes a soft exhalation, not quite a laugh.
"No. Well. My 'special talent' is changing into another form. Not pretty though, it gets really weird. Facial features running like melting wax, bones sticking out of your flesh, stuff like that. Doesn't hurt, but not pretty. So uh, I'd turn around if you don't like that kind of thing..."
no subject
“...you can change forms.” A statement not a question, but its captured her attention. She’s never heard of anything like that before. Not even on Jakku. What sort of world did he come from? Was it something that was common? Or did he have to be a warrior first? So many questions but he was going to prove his point. She cast one last look at him before turning around.
“I wouldn’t call it a talent but I was a scavenger, looking for old parts and trying to repair them, see if they could be put to other uses...” giving away a little bit of information but not giving him the whole picture. One truth in exchange for another.

Marco shrugs, but he's smiling, expression obviously genuine when he says her old job sounded cool. He notices the 'was' but doesn't push it, because he's been that person who clams up when asked for too much information. So he lets it go because the reason she quit the unit doesn't seem like the most important or interesting thing about her.
"Yeah, I do. It's this whole thing back home. An alien gave me and a few other kids the power to do it, when I was like. Thirteen. Then we single-handedly fought an alien invasion and saved the world. No big deal."
It is a big deal, and he's grinning a little, somewhere between sarcastic and smug, eyes a little sharp - he's proud of what he's done, he likes the fame and attention it's brought him, but there's a lot of trauma there, covered up carefully with the smugness.
"That sounds really cool, seriously."
When she turns away, he shucks off his outer shirt and his jeans, toes off his shoes, leaving only his morphing suit underneath. Thankfully, Riverview has a lot more fashionable tights and shirts than he'd had back home in the 90s, so he doesn't look quite as ridiculous.

She does take notice that he doesn't ask any further questions by her old profession. A first, considering usually people want her ask her to go on. Then, she has to pick and choose what she wants to reveal. People from her world, like Cassian and Finn, they understood what conditions a planet had to make someone live day to day on portions. They knew what a harsh life meant, and didn't give her pity for it. They didn't feel sorry for her, but understood.
But war...that she understood. Not as well as Cassian, Poe, or Finn, but she knew sacrifices were made..that lives were lost.
"You were so young.." spoken softly, recalling her own days when she was that young, working herself in the hot sun, lonely, and wondering if she would have enough to get through the next sand storm. Did he grin like that to hide what happen? She wouldn't ask, it wasn't her business.
"I wouldn't call it cool, it was a way of surviving.." she told him, deciding to reveal one more thing about herself that was pretty cool. "I did build my own speeder to go from one point to another across Jakku, the planet I'm from. Took me a while to do it, but it was so worth it."
no subject
"Yeah, but I've been taking care of myself since I was really a kid."
As he's speaking, he starts to change. This part, he's so used to he barely even registers it. His shoulders bulk, his skin darkens, hair sprouts everywhere, his slim hands thicken, he grows taller and taller - it's only a few moments, and he's gone full gorilla.
<Whoa you built your own speeder? I'm guessing that's like...a motorcycle or something, right? See, surviving or not, that's totally cool. Also, I'm done here. You can turn back around whenever you want, just don't freak out.>
The voice is in her head, soundless but still exactly in his inflection and tone and timbre.

Her whole body stiffens hearing a voice in her head. Her mind briefly flashes to being strapped to a chair with Kylo Ren looming over her. His gloved hand reaching out to her, trying to pry into her mind. His presence..his power pushing, digging into her skull to extract information. Her hands curled into fists as she fought the fight or flee response.
"...get out of my mind.." she growled between clenched teeth. She didn't want to be someone's puppet, she didn't want someone digging around in her mind. The Force was stirring, with Rey unintentionally tapping into it causing a few items to start to levitate.
"Get out--!" At that moment she chose to turn around, expecting to see a human there but instead she was met with a beast.

<I'm not in your mind. It's just thought-speak. Only way I can talk in this body. And it's not a two-way street. You hear me, I can't read your mind or anything. I wouldn't want to, anyway, I like to keep a little mystery when I'm talking to a pretty girl, you know?>
It's light, a little teasing to try to lighten the mood, but Marco is highly aware of the aggression in her stance, the fact that there's some things behind her that are kinda floating and he's not sure why.

He wasn't telepathic. He didn't have control of the Force. He...he was just trying to speak to her. It was a bit hard for her to grasp, and she ignored the whole 'pretty girl' part. Slowly, she took in air, breathing in deeply and then counting to ten as she released her breath. Rey did that a few times to calm down, and the items around her went back to laying on the floor.
Now...she feels embarrassed, and a bit ashamed for her reaction.
"...I'm sorry," Rey murmured, averting her gaze and trying to push those feelings down. After nearly turning to fight him, he deserved something of an explanation.
"The last person to be in my mind...it wasn't a pleasant experience."
