who: Rey and You
what: Rey training and dealing with losing two people from her world. Not dealing with feelings
when: Mid day
where: Training area of Perimeter Guard.
warnings: None, will update as needed
It was hard to deal with loss. First it was Obi Wan, the one person who could help her with understanding what it meant to be a Jedi and help her understand the Force more. Then, it was Poe. Two different people who meant something to her. Though, she didn't know Obi Wan too well, she considered him a friend and the only link she had to figuring out what she needed to do. She wanted to become stronger, to be able to fight Kylo Ren if (or when) she was able to leave back to her world. It weighed heavily on her that she was supposed to go to Ahch-To to find Luke and bring him to the Resistance. They were counting on her, and she was....she was here.
For Poe, he was a friend and someone she took comfort from. Someone who came from her point in time, more or less, and knew what the Resistance was facing. He had said she had been here before, which didn't make sense to her...and now he was gone. She should've done more, contacted him and checked in on him to make sure he was okay. She tried telling herself that it was for the better, the Resistance needed their best pilot back.
Rey doesn't know how to deal with the loss in any other way other than to keep moving. To keep going forward and focus on a goal. She could figure out a way to train with the Force later, but she needs to be able to fight with a single blade. Fighting with a staff was easy, it came as second nature to her, but something like a sword or a lightsaber was different. So, she went to the training area of the Perimeter Guard to try and train. She went for a practice staff, practicing on a dummy first to warm up. Later, she would try to practice with a sword unless someone offers to spar with her instead....
For Alec/Jace:
When Rey got to the training grounds, she briefly shot a message over to Alec and Jace, letting them know she was already there. She had brought up the idea of sparring with Alec, something for him to take his mind off of things. He mentioned Jace, so it was decided they would all train together. It didn't matter to her who showed up first or if they came together. It would be interesting to train with either of them, considering from their world they were warriors. Plus, Jace was supposed to be great with training someone, especially when it came to handling a sword.
For now, she'd wait by the mat, her eyes scanning the room for any sign of them and looking down at her phone to see if they sent her a test.

As well as, what kind of a friend was she for not checking up on Poe sooner.
“How many people have signed up so far?” Keep the conversation going. Don’t think about Poe, or Obi Wan. Don’t think about what she’s done wrong or how upset she was over being not in control of everything. At least with flying, she would have control. At least with training, she could control her body and push other thoughts out of her mind.

The shuttle bay wasn't too far away, and soon after they were stepping through the doors. The area seemed tidier now, more well put together, as Jim had tended to it as well when he fixed up the shuttle. Making his way to the side door, he gestured for her to step inside first once he opened it. "After you."

But then again, they were dealing with a shuttle, not something that could make the jump to lightspeed.
"Thanks," she murmured to him, stepping through the side door and taking in the shuttle bay, but her eyes zeroed in on the shuttle itself. It looked completed..fully completed...and her mind went back to Poe, and how much he would've enjoyed seeing it.
"..She looks great."

As for passing out while piloting the shuttle, it hadn't happened of yet, and in any case the shuttle was equipped with inertial dampers, much like the ships in his own world, which counteracted the effects of rapid acceleration and deceleration, and artificial gravity meant they didn't just get thrown around the shuttle so long as that system was working properly. (Also, shuttles could definitely jump to light speeds. If only he could get his hands on a warp core.)
"She does," he smiled at her awe and surprise, letting her take a look around. There was a door separating the large cockpit from the back, and the windshield was huge, going from the floor to the ceiling, and wide across the front. Whoever sat on the two piloting seats in the front would definitely get quite a view. He gestured to the one on the right, moving to the other right next to it. "If you'll take a seat, I can take us off the ground right now."

Rey hadn't seen a shuttle craft like this one before. The windshield was huge, and already her mind was thinking about how thick the material had to be, what it could possibly be made of, and how much damage it could take. The pilots would have an amazing view and even those inside would be able to see so much. This would help them cover so much ground. Faster than her speeder at any rate...
"You sure?" she asked, looking at the second pilot seat, making sure she heard him correctly. He could've asked her to sit in the back, but he offered the other pilot's seat and she sat down on it, looking over the controls. Jim had done so much to make sure everything worked properly...and working with him had been fun too. Talking to each other, and hearing different songs on whatever device he was using...
And Poe...would be so proud right now. She took a deep breath, pushing those feelings in the back of her mind. She wanted to watch Jim, watch an actual pilot take off. While she was a pilot, she was self taught, and it was something else to be able to watch a pro, like Jim, work.

"Sure I am," he cocked an eyebrow at her with a smile, as he settled in and strapped in on his seat. "What's the fun of watching from all the way back there?" It was a bit of an exaggeration. The other seats weren't that far back anyway, but it seemed a little silly for her to keep that much of a distance when it was just the two of them on the shuttle.
He fired up the engines, letting the main computer kick in and all the safety systems start working, and once she took her seat and buckled up, he flashed her a brief smile before reaching for the controls and getting the shuttle to move, hovering above ground slowly first, then piloting it towards the shuttle bay doors once they were completely opened, flying them out past the wall and towards the wide open wilderness beyond.

"This is amazing," she breathed, strapping herself in and watching him take control. The sound of the engines coming to life was one she never thought she'd hear again. The little things one took for granted. Her eyes looked down at the controls, resisting the urge to let her fingers hover the panel itself. No, she wouldn't touch anything. This was Jim's baby and she wasn't about to assume anything. Her gaze moves upward, looking out the windows as they take off.
It was beautiful to her. The feeling of thrusting upward, leaving the ground behind to fly into the air. It wasn't anything like the Falcon, nothing would ever be, but it made her miss home. Made her miss her friends.
"...Poe would've loved this.." she whispered to herself.

He took them out a good distance, and well up in the air, as the trees below them got smaller and smaller. He set a course towards the abandoned city, which should make for a fairly quick flight, then turn towards the waterfalls and let her take a bit of control, just see what she could do with the shuttle.
Her quiet words got his attention, and he glanced at her, wondering for a moment whether he should acknowledge what she said, or simply ignore it. "He would," he said finally, his smile small and a little sad as he looked out the windshield. "He did. He never, uh... never got to see her finished, but we did take her for a few test flights while we were working on her. This wasn't all just me, there are... bits and pieces of him all over this ship. That means something."
To Jim, at least, it meant that Poe leaving didn't completely erase the memory of him being here. Jim would still remember him, and fondly too. He had no doubt other people would, as well. "I'm sorry, Rey. I know he was a friend of yours."
