( open ) get on board for perimeter guard shenanigans
who: Perimeter Guard members & visitors
what: a catch-all for routine Perimeter Guard stuff and shenanigans
when: throughout September
where: Perimeter Guard, beyond the wall, etc.
warnings: put any warnings in comment headers if need be!
[ This is a mingle log, so everyone feel free to write up your own starters, or just vaguely list out things your character might be up to, so other people know how they'd encounter them and where/how to engage. Some ideas for Perimeter Guard stuff:
• studying maps and working on map expansion;
• compiling wild animal data, reading/writing reports, other boring paperwork stuff;
• checking weaponry and devices, making repairs, etc.;
• going beyond the wall for a bit of surveying and exploration;
• checking out the shuttle currently being repaired (only Poe and Jim would actually be able to take it out for a test flight of any kind, but feel free to poke either of us if you'd like to thread that out!).
Go forth and have fun! ]

her job is salvage and repair -- the latter, um, definitely not her forte -- but she's quick and light and her father's knack for detail makes her pretty decent at bringing back corrected maps with better landmarks and detailed notes on the native plants and animals, especially if there is evidence of nests or breeding grounds.
she doesn't trust anyone else yet (sorry?), so she only goes out beyond the wall with cassian, but she will happily give anyone a go for sparring while she's testing out the new weapons on the test dummies, testing how far she can push her shoulder before phantom pain ripples down her arm and she has to rest -- still, it takes quite a long time before pain defeats stubbornness. she is small, but she's tenacious, even against a dummy. you can take the child solider girl out of the galactic civil war, but you can't take the war out of the girl. ]

Thank you. [ He smiles as Jyn hands him a pad with more information to be added to the portion of the map around the abandoned city, linking it to the system and downloading all the data. ] You'd make a good surveyor, too. This all looks great.
no subject
she doesn't say anything to that end, of course, simply the one comment on detail. jyn can be more taciturn than dr leonard mccoy himself. ]
no subject
How did you fare out there? Any difficulties? [ It's a question out of curiosity more so than anything, but he also wonders if she might have had any unsavory encounters. She doesn't look injured, granted, but still. ]
no subject
No difficulties. [ after scarif, everything feels easy. ] Should I have any?
no subject
[ Which isn't to say she couldn't handle herself, of course. Mostly he's curious about how she'd gotten along, and if she had any problems. ]
no subject
at least animals make sense. ]
no subject
How did you like those trips? Will you tell me a little about them? [ It's as subtle as he can get when he's trying to learn more about a person who's obviously reserved. ]
slides in at last
[whatever bratty thing she was about to reply with about her childhood trips is cut off when cassian drops a backpack at her side, with one slung over his own shoulder. it's probably for the best.]
Don't expect a real answer. [that's not a real hello either, cassian.] Hello again, Jim.
no subject
[ BUT NOW NO ONE WILL KNOW. ]
no subject
Oh, I can be horribly annoying. I'd have gotten something out of her. [ Eventually. Look, if he can get a Vulcan to open up... ]
You guys going on a trip? [ He nods to the backpacks, interest piqued. ]
no subject
Feel free to keep trying though. I would love to hear it. [sarcasm?? in MY rebel spy?? it's more likely than you think.]
Outside the wall, yes.
no subject
Someone has to make sure Cassian isn't eaten out there.
no subject
Very considerate of you. [ Though he has no doubt they both can look after themselves more than well. ] Any chance I can tag along?
[ Jim hasn't been taught not to wiggle into other people's business, evidently. ]
no subject
[the question, however, catches him off guard, but the only sign of it is the way his hands still for two seconds on the backpack. he supposes people do go beyond the wall in various group combinations.]
[cassian steals another glance at jyn first to gauge her thoughts before jim will get an answer. he only speaks towards jim though.] Itching to get out there yourself?
no subject
part of her feels like maybe she should warn jim that the two of them have a terrible track record for suicide mission and that everyone they know and love dies, but.... nah, that's unimportant.
maybe she misses the company of k2 rounding out their trio. ] We could use a third, sure.
no subject
Brilliant. [ He grins briefly, evidently delighted to join them. Sorry guys, you've just adopted an overly excited golden retriever, hope you're cool with that. ] Let me just grab my backpack and I'll meet you by the doors.
[ And off he goes, tail wagging uncontrollably. I mean. ]
no subject
[when jim practically skips away, he looks back at jyn.] That was unexpected. [of her, not jim.] But I'm ready when you are.
[he hoists his backpack back over his shoulder and gestures at hers, waiting for her to finish up before they head over to the doors.]
no subject
foisting her backpack over her shoulder she nudges him with her elbow before moving, walking with cassian to the doors. ]
no subject
Backpack slung over his shoulder and a utility belt around his waist, he approaches them by the doors, smiling as he nods for them to lead the way out. ] Thanks for waiting. [ And not ditching him, he implies. ]
no subject
[cassian only nods when jim arrives and says thanks, but he looks as ready to go as they are.] We did agree to wait.
[he pulls out a map to gesture at the general space they were planning to go towards.] We were going over here, just a little west of the river. There were not very many details about what is there, but last time we were close, it looked like there could be some sort of building.
no subject
no subject
[ He nods towards the path as they step through the doorways and out beyond the wall. ] I'm just tagging along, so please. Lead the way.
no subject
I'm hoping there will be something worth bringing back.
It may be a few hours walk. Two, three. Four if we are unlucky.
no subject
it's no worse than jedha, at least it's not cold here, though jyn still -- out of habit maybe -- winds the scarf wrapped around one of the backpack straps around her neck, lifting it to cover her hair. it'll protect her pale skin from the dappled sunlight. ]
Do you do a lot of walking? [ to kirk. maybe they have speeders where he is from, maybe he owned one. ]
