( open ) get on board for perimeter guard shenanigans

who: Perimeter Guard members & visitors
what: a catch-all for routine Perimeter Guard stuff and shenanigans
when: throughout September
where: Perimeter Guard, beyond the wall, etc.
warnings: put any warnings in comment headers if need be!

[ This is a mingle log, so everyone feel free to write up your own starters, or just vaguely list out things your character might be up to, so other people know how they'd encounter them and where/how to engage. Some ideas for Perimeter Guard stuff:

• studying maps and working on map expansion;
• compiling wild animal data, reading/writing reports, other boring paperwork stuff;
• checking weaponry and devices, making repairs, etc.;
• going beyond the wall for a bit of surveying and exploration;
• checking out the shuttle currently being repaired (only Poe and Jim would actually be able to take it out for a test flight of any kind, but feel free to poke either of us if you'd like to thread that out!).

Go forth and have fun! ]

[ Angela stays as far away as she can from the boring paperwork at all costs, instead spending her time beyond the wall, forging through wilderness and fighting any creatures that challenge her. Back at base, she busies herself sharpening her sword and ichors (though really, do magical shapeshifting blades really need sharpening?), and reporting her findings from beyond the wall to the mapmakers. One might even find her carrying a large carcass from a fresh kill back to the Guard headquarters, provided there is some use for the dead beast. Like, as a chair, perhaps.

She does go to observe the repairs to the shuttle, vaguely interested in the vessel's progress. It will be useful for those who cannot fly as she can with her armor. And besides, it reminds her of her time with the Guardians. ]

[ jyn is still new to all of this perimeter guard stuff so she is careful to go through everything at least once, even if the reports practically put her to sleep. the data on the flora and fauna are more interesting and it isn't uncommon to find her sitting outside in the sunlight with a data pad in her lap, reading while she munches on a seemingly endless supply of grapes.

her job is salvage and repair -- the latter, um, definitely not her forte -- but she's quick and light and her father's knack for detail makes her pretty decent at bringing back corrected maps with better landmarks and detailed notes on the native plants and animals, especially if there is evidence of nests or breeding grounds.

she doesn't trust anyone else yet (sorry?), so she only goes out beyond the wall with cassian, but she will happily give anyone a go for sparring while she's testing out the new weapons on the test dummies, testing how far she can push her shoulder before phantom pain ripples down her arm and she has to rest -- still, it takes quite a long time before pain defeats stubbornness. she is small, but she's tenacious, even against a dummy. you can take the child solider girl out of the galactic civil war, but you can't take the war out of the girl. ]

[ Obi-Wan was restless. It's still a little surprising to wake up to silence, instead the sound of gunfire (or Anakin's quiet snoring). Anakin could sleep anywhere, but Obi-Wan never quite fully made the transition from Jedi to General. He wonders if it is the restlessness of war or the restlessness of not being necessary. Not being needed. Which was . . . difficult.

But then Obi-Wan thinks about Anakin's lightsaber in Rey's hands and he can barely comprehend anything else.

So he keeps himself busy. He builds a small compact training droid (simply because he disliked machines does not mean he did not have the skill) and ties a blindfold around his eyes. This was far too basic for Obi-Wan, a master combatant in Soresu. But it wasn't there for training his skills, but for letting go. The droid beeps, floating before shooting tiny lasers which Obi-Wan deflects with ease using his lightsaber. It burns and whirls, a sword of light and calm. ]

[ Jon was part of the Cadet program, but he really didn't know where he was meant to be or what he was meant to do. He wished Steve was still around. Steve thought he could be helpful on missions and Jon aches to help more than ever now. Especially since his father isn't around, it felt like the right thing to do. He had to do more. He has his uniform on at all times these days, especially with the Perimeter Guard.

But among all these grownups who were all busy doing their own thing, Jon just sort of shuffles around in the corners, not entirely sure if he should speak up or ask for help. He stomps around in a dark mood, watching people train with a frown on his face. ]

[ As for Ladybug, it just plain felt bizarre to know there were so many people who were superheroes or crime fighters like her - and many of -them- being part of Perimeter Guard as well. It was kind of nice.

That being said, she didn't often socialize with them, since she only worked part time with the guard. Juggling both identities was kind of exhausting, and she wandered in with a slight yawn, glancing around the room until she caught side of grumpy Jon.

A little surprised there was a member of the Guard a few years younger than her (she was used to them being -older- not the other way around!), she put that to the side and wandered over his way with a smile. ]

Hey there - everything all right?

[ Jon glances up, taking in the costume with a questioning furrow on his brow before replying politely. ]

Yeah. It's just kind of boring.

[ Obi-Wan, of course, can tell when someone enters his periphery. The Force keeps him in check, even when he loses himself in the motions. With a flick of his wrist, he disables the droid's failsafe. It drops to the ground while Obi-Wan turns off his lightsaber and tugs his blindfold upwards, a crooked grin on his lips. ]

It is not meant to be exciting, I'm afraid. I've never been good at theatrics.

[ Says the man who trained the most Extra apprentice and has jumped out of windows. ]

[ Jon glances at him, expecting to be told to leave or fussed over. The request takes him by surprise before his expression lights up, utterly pleased to be able to help. ]

Sure! Do you need me to lift it? Welding?

[personal profile] jedies 2017-09-21 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course. It is only a machine. The idea is to sense where it might go without the use of sight.

[ A droid like this would be meant for the youngest of initiates, with their training sabers which can do little more than provide a sharp bite rather than the brilliant burns a lightsaber has to offer.

But it gave Obi-Wan a chance to lose himself in the Force. To feel nothing else. For a man who tends to have strong feelings, but buries them so deeply that even he can't recognize them . . . it works. ]

[ Marinette glances around with a bemuse smile, before looking back to Jon. ]

Yeah, there don't seem to be many others around 'our' age here -- at least not yet. Kind of awkward socializing when the only ones around are adults. [ Resting her hands on her hips, she gives him a grin. ]

I'm Ladybug. Which part of the Perimeter Guard are you in? [ An awkward pause. ]

I.. don't work full time with the guard, myself, so I don't know everyone.

[A new fella is in the guard, it seems. He's got very... loud hair, so his arrival is probably duly noted.

Actually, Cougar's been brought in as chauffeur, a rad taxi driver of sorts as designated by the head people of the city. If anyone needs him, he's mostly sitting in a pretty plain black car, leaned back in the seat and reading what appears to be a history book about earlier century inventions, primarily in America. Interesting stuff, y'know? Like, wow, some of these hair dryers need to be thoroughly tested for radiation...

Anyway, if you need a lift beyond the wall, he's here to give it!

And maybe help out with the mission, too.

Just, uh. Hope nobody here is sensitive to fast speeds.]

... Huuuh. Wonder who thought a baby cage in a window was a good idea...

I guess it builds character...

And pneumonia.

Of that, I am well aware.

[ Obi-Wan loosely pats the saber he's clipped to his belt with a chuckle. ]

It's known as a lightsaber. Apparently, it catches everyone's attention these days.

It's Superboy.

[ Jon is slowly getting into the habit of introducing himself that way. A few months ago, he would have stumbled but training with Damian has helped in maintaining the identity. ]

Are you also a cadet?

I'm good with details. [ it's what had made her a good forger as a teenager, attention to detail and a knack for duping data chip identification codes. she would have gotten away with fleecing the casino with duped chips if she hadn't been sold out. karma, probably.

she doesn't say anything to that end, of course, simply the one comment on detail. jyn can be more taciturn than dr leonard mccoy himself. ]

[ Apparently Will was that guy who threw himself into the paperwork.

It was actually a very useful tactic to avoid socializing and the paperwork had to get done and he actually enjoyed writing up details on the monsters and wild animals. He did most of this work in his classroom in between the classes he taught on ... well monsters and wild animals.

Ask politely and he might just take on other reports. Particularly those that are now past due?

Occasionally Will made his way out to the motor pool where he'd take on a mechanical project of some sort. Again, it didn't usually require that he be sociable and he could spend hours taking an engine apart to find the minute bits of damage that needed to be tended.

He was good at diagnostics and if the oil on his cheek and hands was anything to go by didn't mind getting grubby. It really didn't matter what type of engine; if it had mechanical moving parts, he was in there tinkering away.

Otherwise he could be caught standing up on the wall, usually close to dusk when the monsters and wild animals began to stir in the deep foliage just beyond the security of the walls. There was often an expression on his face that may have given the impression that he was considering making his way down to join them. ]
