[ This is a mingle log, so everyone feel free to write up your own starters, or just vaguely list out things your character might be up to, so other people know how they'd encounter them and where/how to engage. Some ideas for Perimeter Guard stuff:

• studying maps and working on map expansion;
• compiling wild animal data, reading/writing reports, other boring paperwork stuff;
• checking weaponry and devices, making repairs, etc.;
• going beyond the wall for a bit of surveying and exploration;
• checking out the shuttle currently being repaired (only Poe and Jim would actually be able to take it out for a test flight of any kind, but feel free to poke either of us if you'd like to thread that out!).

[jyn habit of sudden compliments almost feels like a tactic. catching people off guard. at least jim deserves the nice things, because cassian still often thinks he doesn't.]

[he will spare jim her awkward brush off though.] Do you plan to go back to it one day?

[ wow she does no such thing! (she does exactly that thing.) in any case she's curious to the answer, she's curious about a lot of jim's world tbh, so she doesn't catch anyone with sly compliments before he answers. ]

[ Jim isn't the type to mind a compliment, to be fair. It feels particularly nice coming from someone like Jyn, because he knows she means it.

He glances over at the question. Funny that it has him pausing, though the answer probably isn't that surprising. ] One day, yes. Absolutely. I mean, I like it here, and I don't mind being here for the time being, but... it's home. You know? There's nothing quite like it.

[evasives]

[it's home, you know.]

[it's a very jarring comment, one that cassian doesn't outwardly react to. he has no home to go back to twice over. no fest, no galaxy, not when you're dead. but jim doesn't know that about them, does he? it doesn't feel like the time to announce it, but no time would probably ever be right.]

There is a lot of good about this place. I can't say I mind it either.

[realists]

There is the added bonus of us not being dead.

[ you know, it's a small thing, but she likes being alive, it's a nice feeling. especially being alive and outside of a war zone. she has incredibly low standards. if jim didn't know... he sure as shit knows now. ]

[ Sure, super small thing. Kinda catches Jim off-guard, but she says it so casually that despite the look of surprise on his face as he looks back to her, he figures she just... doesn't want him to put too much focus on that. Cassian too, he figures. She did say 'us', after all. ]

Yeah. Sure as hell beats that. [ He's been dead once, so he can sympathize. To some degree, anyway. ]

[she just. fucking goes there and cassian stiffens. he doesn't stop walking and he resists the urge to pinch the bridge of his nose.]

[he can at the very least appreciate the way jim doesn't make it a big deal. even if the look he spares jyn is vaguely annoyed.]

Almost anything would beat that.

[so riverview can stay, he supposes, even if he's now feeling slightly more on edge.]

[ cassian should know better than anyone the way jyn uses her life as a weapon. can't use her terrible life against her if she does it first ayyyyyyyy. she seems at ease with the pronouncement but a. she was the one that said it and b. it is simply reality.

if she can push the grief for the death of her parents away, she can damn well shove down the grief of her own death. ]

Almost anything? I'm curious what may beat it out.

[ It's not like Jim would use it against her, but it's one of those things he genuinely appreciates, getting these glimpses of people, learning more about their lives before the Quarantine. She doesn't put much weight on her own revelation, and as such he doesn't linger on it for long either. ]

Oh, I agree with Cassian, I think. There are a few things worse than death. [ Which he won't get into because that's just depressing. ] Luckily the Quarantine definitely isn't one of them.

[evasives]

[she can do whatever she likes with her own life! but it's his life that has him feeling antsy, because cassian hoards details about himself deep under his skin. her blurting it out is something out of his control!! he doesn't like it. he's still tense.]

I don't want to make a list. [of the things worse.] We could tier elements of the Quarantine if we are that bored.

[realists]

I don't think we've been here long enough to have a list.

[ that's not true, jyn's favorite place in the galaxy is the produce section of the grocery store. she is the epitome of a kid in a candy shop staring at all the brightly colored fruit and veg.

she looks over at jim. ] Do you have any recommendations?

[winscenario]

The Abandoned City, and the waterfalls. The park near the river. There's this cute little coffee shop near the center, too. I like it.

[ He shrugs. ] But you should explore for yourselves, and find the places you like. Recommendations will only get you so far.

[evasives]

It's always better to have an idea of what might be out there and what others might like. Like a starting point.

[even if yes he will make his own decisions thank you very much. at least talking about this has gotten him slightly less grumpy about the death spoilers.]

The waterfalls might be nice.

[realists]

Is there anything like the forests that aren't outside the wall?

[ he had her at waterfalls. please appeal to her nature girl side. ]

[winscenario]

Well— the main park has a lake, I guess. The river is very pretty. But nothing really compares to how nature looks out here. It's completely different.

[ City's nice and all, but if she's a nature girl then she definitely needs to explore everything that's out here. Much more worth it. ]

There are less people out here. [that's extra nice. misanthropic adventurers.]

The city is very green, but you can still clearly tell it's a city.

[realists]

I've never liked cities. [ but they were necessary because that is where the food is so she always had to be a little bit close to them when she didn't have a steady food supply. ]

I've heard there's a plant that is a city made of trees, but I've never been.

[ jyn would have loved endor. ]
