In the days leading up to March 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Sampremi. This is one of Riverview's four yearly celebrations of love, this one focused on sexual love and lust, and sexual relationships that might bloom into more (or not). Traditions associated with Sampremi are a roving street market, raves where residents can seek out some free love and get a little crazy, a massive week-long kink convention, and a tech expo with all-ages and adult options.

a celebration of sexual love and lust

Riverview has always been a place focused on love and building connections in order to foster community, and for a lot of people, sex is part of that, which makes it something worth celebrating! For people who use sex as a way to connect with others, even if only for a short time, or those who use it as a way to connect on a deeper level with the ones they already love, Sampremi is the perfect holiday to get their freak on in a host of new and exciting or comfortable and familiar ways. The holiday features a large kink convention, where various entities in the city can show off their toys, explain their niche kinks, and share their insights with anyone who might be interested, a series of raves that are both all-ages and adult where residents can find someone(s) to share a night (or a week, a few months, or even a life) with. This year, there is a large tech expo where cutting edge tech companies in the city are sharing their newest toys, like improved virtual reality, robotics advances, and many other types of toys - all for work, play, or, in the spirit of the holiday, pleasure. And for those who don't want to connect through sex or who aren't old enough to, there are dances, games, and an entire market full of street food that's meant for sharing, so they can connect in other ways.

i. color raves

Advertised on flyers and digital screens around the city, made to pop as if they were under blacklight, is a series of what's called "color raves" that are happening in various large empty warehouse spaces around the city. They are called color raves for the bright colorful lights, the preponderance of glowsticks that attendees wave around, and for the brightly colored powder for attendees to play with, some of which is spiked with a mild party drug and some of which is just for fun (with the difference clearly marked, of course). There are three types of color rave - adult, all-ages, and youth raves.

(CW: DRUG USE) At each adult rave and all-ages rave there is one specific room where attendees can enter (after proving themselves 18+), and dance or play tag with brightly colored powder that contains small amounts of a legal party drug commonly available in Riverview, which is absorbed through the skin. Not much more intoxicating than having a few beers, the effects of the drug are a pleasant low-key buzzing euphoria, positive sensitivity to touch, a heightening of desires for intimacy, and a mild lowering of inhibitions. Once a character has been hit with the powder, the color lingers on the skin so other attendees can know who has partaken, but once the powder makes contact with a surface (whether it is skin, clothing, or structural) it deactivates, meaning that partakers can safely dance with non-partakers without sharing the intoxicating effects.

Adult raves will have bouncers at the door to ensure that anyone entering is 18+, and there is no limit to when and where the debauchery happens. Clothing is optional, showing skin is encouraged, and there are a lot of neatly tucked away spaces for attendees to get some time alone with one or more than one person, as well as spaces intended for orgies. The atmosphere is sex-positive and non-judgemental, open to any orientation or preference, with various forms of protection available for free, however, to ensure that everyone plays safe there are sober security teams out en masse at all premises to oversee the events.

All-ages raves are open to anyone who wishes to attend, regardless of age. There are bouncers at the door who will check ID and stamp the hand of anyone who is 18+ with a special ink that shows up under blacklight for easy identification. At all-ages raves, 18+ and underage characters can mingle, but there are specific areas set aside for only 18+ characters where they can get down and dirty either in private or the open.

Adult and all-ages raves will have only spiked powder to avoid confusion.

Youth raves are intended only for younger characters under 18, so they can stay up all night and dance like crazy, and meet other young people in the city. The legal drinking age in Riverview Quarantine is 14, and so anyone over 14 can enter and indulge in a few drinks, dancing, and playing tag with a version of the colored powder featured at the adult raves that won't give you anything but a sugar high. There is copious amounts of security on site to ensure that everyone is safe, as well as nurses and off-duty police officers to offer advice or care for anyone who overindulges out of lack of experience. Youth raves will have only sugar powder, brightly colored and sweet to the taste, meant for fun and to play tag with rather than to cause intoxication.

ii. kink convention

For the week of March 4-10 there will be a massive kink convention on the top floor of one of the large exhibition centers downtown, limited to characters 18+. The exhibition is a sexy adult informational convention featuring various kinks and fetishes. Whether you're into leather, latex, lace, or anything else, you'll be able to find the clothes, toys, guides, books, erotica, fiction, and a wide variety of other interesting stuff to explore. While the atmosphere is sex-positive and there are private and public (for the voyeurs and exhibitionists in the room) venues for having sex, it's definitely focused on exploration and information about different stuff to try.

If someone has thought of it and figured it sounded sexy, it can be found here, and with Riverview's high level of tech advancement and widespread acceptance of magic, things can get pretty kinky. Whatever your kink is, there's probably a VR program, sex toy, potion, or spell that can make it happen, and someone who's got the downlow on how to make it great.

iii. tech expo

Riverview prides itself on its technological advancement, and so, running concurrently with the Kink Convention on March 4-10 and on the bottom floor of the same convention center, various cutting-edge tech companies in the city will be sponsoring a Tech Expo. The expo features demonstrations of all of the most advanced technology that's coming into use in the city, ranging from advancements in VR and holotech to robotics and gadgets, you can find the latest and greatest in almost any area of modern technology. Attendees will be able to come with a friend or a date or anything in between to play VR games, enjoy holoprojected escape rooms and puzzles, meet robot pets, try out the most recent music player or that new cell phone that can bend without breaking, and a wide variety of other gadgets.

While most of the tech expo is all-ages and non-sexual, there is a decently-sized adult area where characters must show ID proving they are 18+ in order to enter, where the technology is mostly related to sexual use. This area features advanced sex toys, VR systems intended to explore sex with other people in a virtual environment with no strings attached, sexy video games and holoprograms, and many other sensual technological.

iv. street market

One of the major draws of the festival is the special street food that can only be obtained this time of year. Almost everything you can buy at the Sampremi Festival is meant to be shared - whether it's one piece of meat on two or more sticks or desserts baked with a narrow part in the middle for convenient tearing, everything is built to be shared. The stalls sell everything from cups of soup, sandwiches, roasted or fried meat, deep-fried vegetables and cakes, dumplings, donuts, bagels, turnovers, and anything else you can think of.

Many of the savory dishes are based on the meat of a particular fowl native to the moon Riverview is situated on that has a taste and texture halfway between chicken and duck, cooked to be spicy (ranging from very mild to throat-burning). Many of the desserts are based around a fruit native to the moon that is spherical, red-orange, and has a light sweet taste that is similar to a combination of mango, pineapple, and strawberry. Both ingredients are considered to be aphrodisiacs. Of course, the foods aren't actually aphrodisiacs and any effect is purely placebo, though there are some booths (clearly marked and with someone to check ID) that sell actual aphrodisiac-laced foods and drinks to people who are 18+.

The festival features an entire row of fair games ranging from very high-tech games featuring virtual reality and neon holograms to extremely old-fashioned games with darts and balloons or balls and glasses. The games all have prizes in various shapes and sizes, with the standard stuffed animals, but also with goods and special items donated by any business in the city; ranging from tiny prizes to huge and expensive ones. Due to the nature of the holiday, many of the stalls are set up to cater to winning a prize for your partner(s), and due to the nature of the Quarantine, a lot of them involve aiming or other aspects of pretending to fight.

Originally, the part of the street festival that involved an actual market, with stalls and booths set up with goods, was aimed primarily at romantic trinkets like flowers or jewelry, gifts intended to be purchased for a loved one. As time has gone by, however, this aspect of the market has increased, with many businesses participating, though the emphasis is still on small businesses and anything relating to local culture rather than booths for any of the larger more corporate businesses. There is still plenty of jewelry to be found, for sure, mostly handmade and artisan, but the scope of the Market has widened immeasurably. The Sampremi Market is an excellent place to find specialty foods, clothing, jewelry, art, or other goods that were originally native to cultures on other planets in this reality, or other realities altogether. Many residents in the city use the market to share their unique cultural goods and traditional dress with others.

[ While the raves seemed a little more adventurous than the clubbing that Clary was mostly used to, she had decided to at least find out what each celebration was about. The nature of this one was something she might have once enjoyed with a boyfriend, but here she didn't have that kind of attachment. She had discovered a way to have fun, but she certainly wasn't about to push that towards dating territory

And while she knew she was old enough for the adult raves, she was at least going to ease into this by starting with the all ages one. Any kind of drug - even legal - was something she questioned, but if all it was going to do was make her feel a bit drunk and a little more affectionate, well, maybe it wasn't so bad.

Her red hair was down and flicked out as she danced, her black halter top making her fair skin and runes stand out now that the cooler weather was gone. Izzy might have pushed her to wear something a little more adventurous but she stuck with what she knew, and at least she knew she could dance in the black jeans. ]


iv. street markets

[ Clary would be lying if she didn't admit that the food was a huge part of why she joined in on the festivals. It wasn't ever quite like anything they had back home. As multicultural and innovative as New York was, she was still pretty sure that some of the chefs and restaurants would be more than a little intrigued by Quarantine's offerings.

While she could normally handle some spicy food, as she bit into the dish she was holding, she more than regretted it as her eyes started to water. ]

[ He's still surprised they let him in. Yes, he had an ID, a place of his own, a job that pays and he is uniquely equipped to be security at a rave though Dorian didn't quite understand why. But it was still hard to wrap his mind around it. It's funny though, trying to deal with his own dissonance and ideas how things should be. It makes him feel hard-headed, almost human. He smiles as he saunters into the club, dressed casually as he watches people throw coloured . . . powder into the air. Blue lights flicker over his face as Dorian brushes his fingers against it, analyzing the compound structure. Huh.

No wonder they were explicit about having him around. Dorian smiles as he finds himself a corner, occasionally weaving himself in and out of the crowds, jostling the . . . writhing bodies. Mostly Dorian will be checking up on anyone who seems lost, uncomfortable or simply unsure. ]

[ Honestly, it was the Tech Expo that made Dorian feel the closest to home. Being around the holograms, the digital displays. He visited all of them, constantly asking questions and uploading new data into his hardware. Even picking out a few programs that weren't in his system before. However, every time Dorian's face lit up, he was approached by someone with a very awkward question. ]

[It's been a year since Taako arrived in the Quarantine. Sampremi was the first festival he attended, although they've shaken it up a little from last time. The whole concept is a strange thing; he's not used to sticking around for this long. During their journey on the Starblaster, this is where they'd be getting ready to travel to the next planar system and for the rest of his life it was just a case of moving around so much that nowhere was home for particularly long. So - it's strange, especially when the last couple of weeks have been particularly shitty. Two months ago he was content enough to wait things out, now he's ready to go back to Fearun, but that's not a feeling he can act on, meaning he needs to ignore it.

There's no better distraction than a party, especially one that involves dancing, a lot of people, and drugs. Although he usually doesn't go much harder than weed on that last category, he's tried the powder before on a whim and knows it's pretty low key. He's not particularly looking for anything out of these evenings, but that doesn't mean he can't have some fun. He gets dressed up, gets a little tipsy, and spends the whole night dancing instead of thinking about literally anything else.]

iii. tech expo

[Despite coming from what he generously describes as a fantasy bullshit world, Taako is pretty into technology. He doesn't understand it on the level that a lot of his friends do, but he knows his way around the basics and is curious enough to poke into the rest of it. The expo seems like a nerdy sort of thing on the surface, but as loathe as he is to admit it, Taako's kind of a fucking nerd.

When it turns out there's a whole section on cooking tech, Taako is psyched. He's not a purist by any means, anything that can spice things up is good by him, whether it's magic or science or technology. Between knives made out of a material that means they never need sharpening, and a good old fashioned sous vide (not old fashioned to Taako, who's pretty into the idea of buying one), there's a lot for him to investigate.

That's not all he gets into; Taako also spends some time checking out phones and entertainment systems and silly robot pets. It's fun and there's nothing that can go wrong with it and that's - kind of refreshing, honestly.]

iv. street market

[The amount of nostalgia Taako feels at the street festival surprises even him. This is where he properly met Clark and it's where he met Bryn, two people who were both important and who are both gone. It feels like a lifetime ago, rather than just a year, considering everything that's happened in Fearun and here and with the voidfish ichor.

Like the first time around, he spends some time at the carnival games doing his best to subtly cheat with magic, not because he really wants anything on offer as prizes, but he just likes testing himself and seeing what shit he can get away with. He has more luck with the more low tech games, but that doesn't stop him from giving it a shot.

The markets themselves are worth a look, too, he's got money to burn and retail therapy is the only acceptable form of therapy. There are clothes and jewellery and interesting foods to try, all of which are things he's into. He's also not afraid to ask for a second opinion from anyone passing by:]

[ Jim can't honestly remember the last time he went to a party like this. He's been to a couple here in the Quarantine, but never to one with this kind of wild rave feel to it, and never getting so involved or staying for too long, all things considered.

Now, though? He feels like letting loose. He mingles through the party and can be seen often with a drink in hand, and it's not long before he's covered in the colorful powder too, though he's not acting too differently from himself, and simply getting a little closer than he otherwise would, leaning into people's personal space. But then, the fact that most areas of the rave are so crowded makes it a little difficult for anyone to keep much of a distance at all.

He is still wearing his clothes, though— a pair of white pants, now tainted with the colored powder, and a black scoop neckline shirt. A tragedy, really. Feel free to try and unburden him of some of those layers.

He's by no means just moving around and waiting for others to approach, though. He makes his way to a number of people at the party, whether those that are more in the mood or the odd poor soul trying to keep to themselves by some corner, smile on his face, powder on his skin and drink in his hand. ] Wanna dance?

II ▹ KINK CONVENTION

[ This brings back memories, actually. Not the first kink convention he's visited here, so a lot of it isn't exactly news to him, but he still makes his way around and visits the different booths, with a healthy dose of interest and curiosity. A wide variety of kinks catch his eye, from bondage to costumes and roleplay, and he picks a few brochures here and there, leafing through a few books. If he happens to come across a demonstration, he'll likely not shy away from watching— in fact, he'll probably be fairly participative in the Q&A that follows. Or, who knows, if they ask for willing participants, he might step up too.

All over the various booths and shops offering different and unique supplies, Jim can also be found going through the wide offer of toys, accessories and clothing, inspecting a particularly smooth rope, or trying to suppress a chuckle at an almost comically large dildo in the shape of... what looks like a gnome? Hell if he knows. People are into the weirdest things, but hey, to each their own.

He, on the other hand, seems more interested in the ropes and leather cuffs, sparing some attention to a few collars and leashes, riding crops, and a spreader bar nearby. Anyone's free to join him in browsing, or if you have any questions, he's probably the guy to ask. ]

III ▹ TECH EXPO

[ Mainly he visits the tech expo because it's right next to the kink convention, and just for curiosity's sake, he pops by for a visit. Some things are pretty fun and cool, but compared to most people in this place, Jim's fairly used to this level of technology, even if a lot of it diverges from the one in his world— it's not necessarily more advanced. The robotics area seems to pique his interest the most, as well as the VR demonstrations, which he takes part in when he can.

His curiosity extends to the adult area of the expo, naturally, where he takes a peek into the VR rooms, and later spends a good chunk of time looking up and down a holoprojection of a mostly naked woman, intrigued more so than anything. He mumbles, more to himself than anything. ] A hard light projection would work better for this.

[ He also can be found looking over a fucking machine, going from curious to surprised when the seller suggests he takes the speed up a notch. He laughs softly and shakes his head, handing the remote back to him. ] Sorry. That looks like it hurts, and not in a good way.

IV ▹ STREET MARKETS

[ The rest of the celebrations, while not following the same sex and kink theme, still catch his eye. Street stands are always a source of fascination to him, as they rarely have these back on Earth where he's from, and the various trinkets on offer are a hoarder collector's dream.

With a donut or a little plate with dumplings in hand, he goes through the various stands, looking over book titles, browsing jewelry and checking out various vinyl and CD records on offer, evidently looking to add to his collection. ]

While she's far from a wallflower she isn't the type to approach anyone who she feels might be out of her league, so she's instead been watching him from afar and quietly admiring the amount of colorful handprints he's ended up with on the back of his pants.

And then he approaches on his own and asks her to dance, and it takes all of her self-control not to choke on her drink. Even in the mood lighting, her pale skin makes it impossible not to note how red her cheeks have turned, and the star-struck look in her eyes.]

[ The kink convention is certainly not a scene one would expect to find Wally West. He's someone who can get easily embarrassed by the simple idea of talking about sex much less being surrounded by items and experiences that promote nothing but. The power of curiosity can make people do things they normally wouldn't, though.

However, his curiosity quickly turns into uncomfortableness as he explores the floor. He isn't sure what he was expecting, but whatever it was is exceeded by the reality that has his cheeks turning a shade of red that matches his hair.

It takes only a few minutes for him to decide to turn around and make a beeline for the exit. But, before he can reach his destination, he spots someone familiar, and not wanting them to find him in such a place, he ducks behind one of the displays that happens to be promoting some strange new state-of-the-art sex toy.

The person he is trying to avoid may catch a glimpse of him peering out over the display if they look in his direction at the right moment, and for those coming from the other end of the room, he is clearly visible crouching in his hiding place. ]

[ Wally is very much at ease at he wanders about the festival taking advantage of the inordinate amount of food being offered at the stalls. He's never been a picky eater so he tries almost everything, and whatever he's caught eating throughout the day, one can be sure it's a healthy amount that might raise some eyebrows.

He will say his apparent insatiable appetite is a byproduct of his fast metabolism, but the truth is he's just someone who loves to eat.

There is a point where he takes a break from his eating exploits to try his luck at some of the games set up. He's more partial to the traditional games like the one with the darts and balloons, but he gives the more advanced games a shot too.

Being a highly competitive person who doesn't accept defeat easily, he ultimately accumulates quite a bit of winnings from the games which include numerous stuffed animals among them. Having no use for the stuff toys himself, he takes some time to walk around handing them out if he comes across those he knows or to anyone he thinks might like one. ]

[ Clary thought she had seen everything, but just when she reached that conclusion, something else came along to top it. Right now Sampremi and everything that came with it was definitely at the top. Even beating all the magic she'd seen in this place.

And the convention?

Wally wasn't the only one in danger of cheeks matching the colour of his hair, but Clary wasn't hiding. She was just trying her best to look calm and like everything was completely and totally normal.

Until the other redhead decided to take refuge and she couldn't help watch him for a few moments as she tried to work out if he was hiding because he was in danger, or hiding because he was... well, a voyeur. She was in no position to judge given where they were.

Clary tried to give what she hoped was a polite smile to a stall owner before she edged in towards Wally's hiding place and cleared her throat as a signal while trying not to draw attention to the fact that she was about to look like she was talking to a display of sex toys. ]

[on hearing about the color rave, Victor knew he couldn't just walk in. So he went through his things until he found what he needed: a pair of glasses with a special filter on the lens. He hadn't used them since his first trip to the Enchanted Forest, and had since made some modifications. He still won't be able to discern what the colors actually are-- blue, green, orange, whatever-- but the powder would stand out a bit more now to his eyes.

And of course like any good scientist, Victor has to sample the powder himself to experience its effects. He experiments with applying it to different portions of his bare skin: his neck, his face, his arms. The euphoric feeling is wonderful and may even get him to be more socially engaging]

[of course Victor is going to visit the tech expo. He is taking his time looking over every device available and debating on if he can smuggle any of them out without someone noticing. He tests out the VR and gets absorbed in a few of the puzzle games. It will take him a while to get to the adult-only section, but he will take his time looking around there as well]

[these are always intriguing to him. He likes seeing what sort of things are hawked to the festival goers and how the Quarantine presents itself. He mostly just pokes around and observed, though when he comes across the aphrodisiacs he tries to take some samples to play around with later in his lab. A scientist has got to science.

He plays a few of the games just for the hell of it, not really intending to do anything with the prizes. And he stops by the actual market to look at what's in stock and possibly buy something that looks interesting to him]

[ All in all, it's not very difficult to spot familiar faces around the raves, but in this particular case, he had asked Victor specifically if he was thinking of going there. So in this particular instance, Jim's actually roaming the party with a purpose, looking for him among the crowd.

Between the colors, the flashing lights and all the powder everywhere, it takes him a little while, but he eventually spots the bleached hair, and starts making his way over. The glasses give him a bit of pause, but he recognizes Victor in his stance and the way he moves, so he feels fairly safe to drape an arm over his shoulders as he leans in close to speak into his ear. ]

[ It’s loud.

That’s an understatement, of course, but everything is hectic, and the beat of the music fills the warehouse, amplified by the pulsing lights and flailing glowsticks. Gamora isn’t necessarily getting into the spirit of the rave, but she’s curious, here to observe and see what Sampremi has to offer thus far. Groot has a babysitter, fortunately, because if she had to keep track of the little sapling in this crowd? That wouldn’t be worth the headache.

It’s early enough that she hasn’t noticed anything getting particularly wild around her, but she does get right in the middle of someone playing tag with those colorful powders, and she gets a faceful of the stuff.

Magenta splatters her cheeks and chin and down her neckline, getting all over her black top. She stands there for a moment, totally startled. ]

KINK CONVENTION

[ She’s intrigued by everything on display. Groot is taken care of and therefore not accompanying her, which gives her the freedom to wander the convention, pausing at stalls that seem of the most interest.

She can be found pawing at smooth red rope at one stand, sorting through lingerie at another (and, frankly, looking lost because she’s never bought this kind of thing before), or flipping through erotica with a wholly skeptical expression. She also wanders past some of the exhibitionist venues, pausing to observe for a moment. ]

[ Gamora had been sitting on a bench, sharing a small cream puff with Groot (which mostly amounts to tearing off pieces and handing them over), but just as she gives the sapling another bite, he takes the treat in hand and hops off her knee. ]

i. Color Raves - Adult; open to drug use
Roy was out of his element. He could get behind romantic holidays. He was a terrible flirt after all. However, his upbringing to be a gentleman clashed with the festivities. It wasn't about romance, but instead was about the pleasure of physical contact, of hormones and lust and getting down and dirty with anyone who was willing. Roy found himself to be taken aback a bit by how open everything was, as sexuality was definitely a more private thing in Amestris. Still, he couldn't deny that he was at least a little curious about it, and it seemed to be a part of the culture of Riverview. Perhaps this could be learning experience for him?

Eventually, Roy decided to go and see what these raves were all about. He took his time, slowly strolling pass the different raves that had different rules and age restrictions based on what was offered. As much as the whole thing failed to jive with him, he had to give the city props for being to responsible with it and for their efforts in organizing everything from the raves themselves to the security hired to protect those who might indulge a little too much.

However, he was mostly curious with the adult-only raves. Figuring it wouldn't hurt as there was no one else here from his world (Edward and Alphonse didn't count, and besides, what did he care if he ran into one or both of them), he picks one out randomly and heads in. He's surprised that he's carded, as he's clearly over 18, but he can't fault them for covering their bases. He's definitely overdressed for the occasion, wearing a button down shirt with a vest and dress pants and shoes. His look is almost Victorian and it clashes heavily with what everyone is wearing-or not wearing, as there are quite a few people who decided to forgo clothes altogether. As he enters, he's given a glowstick and someone drapes a glow-in-the-dark ring around around his neck. He heads atraight for the bar, orders himself some bourbon, and leans against the counter as he calmly watches the chaotic scene on the dance floor with an amused smirk on his face.

Anyone who catches him there is free to approach him and try to convince him to join in. (Colored powder use is ok, so long as he's invited to try it first.)


ii. Kink Convention
After his experience at the raves, Roy figures he's had his fill of debauchery and decides to skip out on the kink convention. However, if he's on a date and said date wants to check it out? They might be able to convince him.

iii. Tech Expo
One again, Roy finds himself feeling out of place. The technology he's encountered so far in Riverview had been so much more advanced than anything that could be found in Amestris, and he found himself to have a little bit of trouble figuring some of it out sometimes. Still, it was imperative that he familiarize himself with it as much as he can, and given his experience with the shuttle thanks for Kirk, he sees it as an opportunity to explore things that were unimaginable back in his home world. He can be seen slowly looking around the expo, trying out just about anything he's allowed to get his hands on. He finds the holotech and robotics to be particularly interesting and he can be seen sizing up a stall with robotic canines, seemingly mulling over whether he should get one or not. If he notices anyone he's met, he's going to approach them and initiate conversation, and anyone who wishes can do the same with him. If anyone can explain how these things work in layman's terms, he'd appreciate it.


iv. Street Market
While the raves and kinks are outside of Roy's comfort zone, the food stalls certainly aren't. They are all perfect for his dating plans and the variety of food is impressive. He's definitely interested in trying more of the local cuisine, though it looks like there are foods from the various worlds people have been pulled through. He's open to trying any of them.

[at last, the festival of perverts has arrived! ...okay, it's a festival of lust, but Osomatsu is pretty thirsty, so this is right up his alley. he's looking forward to seeing what will happen during this time. he plans on throwing himself into everything. the end of February put him into an awful mood, so he is ready to toss his cares away and just have fun.

for starters, another party! he's been to so many parties during his stay in Riverview, because he never got to party back at home (he was never invited). here, no one cares that he's a loser and a former-NEET. all men and women and aliens are created equal, or something, so the parties are open to everyone. the only thing that stops him is a bouncer, who seems a bit skeptical to hear that he's an adult, but he proves it with his license. he is over twenty, okay? and he's going to get wasted

then he notices people are... showing skin. a lot of skin. huh. this rave will be perfect for Karamatsu. anyway, he wants to play tag. so he's got his powder, and he starts looking for people to pelt it with.

the problem is, is that Osomatsu is... pretty shy. or, rather, he has a hard time just going up to strangers and talking to them. he's been getting better, thanks to working at the cafe, but really. he's standing around, mostly watching other people instead of actually getting his freak on.

[Val purposely doesn't wear anything she cares about getting dirty to this rave, considering the main draw of the party. She's been moping for nigh on a month, now, and this Sampremi thing seems like as good an excuse as any to get loose and have some fun. Guilt-free.

She shows up in something skintight, strappy and black, but with combat boots because she's Val and she refuses to wear anything she can't run in. Just in case. She doesn't hesitate to plunge headfirst into the fray, arms reaching skyward, letting blue and red and yellow settle on her bare skin, pupils dilating as the drug in the powder seeps into her system.

It...turns out to be a really good excuse to touch people. Eases some of her stiffness, lets her feel a little more comfortable breaking down those barriers. If she knows you, she's much more likely to greet you enthusiastically, in all likelihood with a hug if the crowd is thin enough that she can get her arms around you. She won't turn down a dance with a stranger, either, for that matter.]

ii. feeding on your hungry eyes, i bet you're not so civilized

[She's gotten much more accustomed to the wild world of sex accoutrements since she's been in Riverview. That's not to say that they didn't have things like lingerie and sex toys on Sakaar, because they most certainly did. But Val's lifestyle then had been much more solitary and much less social, and she'd viewed all of it from a cautious distance. But here? Fuck it. It's fun to look at if nothing else, and she's not holding herself to some weird, skewed idea of a moral code here.

For awhile, she browses a rack of handmade floggers, fingers trailing curiously across the soft strips of leather, lengths of cord and rubber and chain and feather. A little further along the floor she finds herself eyeing up harnesses and collars with a mixture of curiosity and amusement. If she notices you looking awkward, she might just...give you a teasing little wink, or a waggle of her eyebrows. Or a sympathetic eye roll. She's in good humor, clearly.]

Yeah, Val is having none of that. She's scarfing down sandwiches, cakes, basically anything she can get her hand on. She's both tired and needs the energy, and hungover and needs to put something in her stomach.

[A rave isn't the usual kind of party that Kara would attend, but she's willing to make an exception once or twice, especially considering the general theme of these things seems to be getting laid. [ Aoba's that guy who just became unwillingly, suddenly single right before Valentine's day. Except it's not Valentine's day so much as a festival dominating most of the month with reminders of all the intimacy he's not having anymore. Not only does he miss his partner of... it had to have been close to two years counting his time with him in Germany, but regardless, it's not an easy transition to make.

What makes it easier is boxing up his things and moving out. Less of those startlingly, in-your-face reminders of that painful person-shaped void in your life imprinted on nearly everything you call 'home'. At least this way he's disrupted by being between homes, and trying to distract himself by timidly stepping out into the limelight as one of Riverview's recently minted eligible bachelors.

Aoba ventures into one of the raves, a scene he's not unfamiliar with, but he flinches when a man carrying a tray of brightly colored powders and asks if he's partaking. He looks at them and nods. ]

Yeah, sure. [ After a moment, he seems to remember something and starts forward again and asks something he'll soon be denied: ]

Um... do you have any edibles?

[ He tried them before and didn't hate them, and honestly? Being comfortably outside of his head is just what he thinks he needs. The man shakes his head, however. ]

[ Oh god. What was he even doing here? Aoba can't recall what possessed him to breeze past the bouncers and signs and identity checks that clearly and expressly stated what kind of place he was heading into, and yet the moment he enters that adults-only playground of tents and platforms allowing the whole spectrum of sexual play for private use or public display, his mind goes completely blank.

He hears a few people coo over the obscene rumble of a toy that dances over the display table when activated and buzzes energetically on the floor. Another curtain barely conceals the very portrait of perversion painted by moans just behind it, and then there's the random orgy tent that he briskly tries to pass by without looking. In his distraction, he takes turn after turn, trying to put yet another embarrassingly lewd scene behind him as quickly as his feet can carry him.

[ The Tech Expo is really more Aoba's speed. Games, VR... this is the kind of thing Noiz and he had been working on. To see different kinds of takes on the same idea was interesting, but there was a futility in inspecting it. After all, Noiz had been the real whiz at programming and data collection and with his departure from Quarantine went all the steam the project had. With him gone, there was little reason or energy he had to devote to the effort.

But still. Maybe Noiz would have wanted him to continue it. Maybe it would prove that he was still dedicated to him, maybe...

Aoba pulls off the headset that allowed him to see the virtual environment laid over the real one like a skin and returns to the present with a frustrated sound and moves to another table, but gets side tracked when he walks past a flashing display. It's a game. ]

...Escape room? What's that?


iv. street market

[ When Aoba's not terrorized by his own insecurity (or sexuality), he's taking solace in one of the few pure joys he has left in this month of lust. Food. Also window-shopping. And possibly trying hard to find gifts for his friends that he can share with, but everything's so tilted towards romance and intimacy that he's having a hard time.

Even eating one of those skewers with two sticks is making him feel awkward, but that certainly hasn't stopped him from loading up on snacks. Still, there's only so much a man can eat. ]

[ Aoba completely misunderstood. When he was asked to bring his special someone, his mind was fixed on Ren, fresh from his recent arrival and ringing in the new year with that joyful reunion that hadn't lost it's novelty and frankly won't for some time now. But the moment he arrived to dinner to see the plus-one Shigeru had with him, he realized something. Two somethings. One being that the other man is certainly not a pet, and the second being the venue itself having a distinctly... romantic mood. ]

...I've made a huge mistake.

[ Ren, the small bundle of dark blue fur curled up in his bag, lifts his head and watches them with inky eyes and a pink tongue poking out. His head tilts quizzically.

[Ichimatsu was a hilariously oxymoronic person. Particularly so in the sense that he had a high level of social anxiety and general depressive behavior, but lacked much in the way of shame about public indecency or sexual discussion.]

[As such, being the virginal disaster that he was with no real hope of ever changing that fact, he'd decided to take a curious prowl through the kink convention happening, whilst otherwise avoiding any and all things surrounding the sexually-charged holiday. It would be a good opportunity, he knew that, but he wasn't sure he was up for it, still reeling from losing someone he hadn't realized how close to he was.]

[At a brand-new 20 years of age, Marco's old enough for the adult raves. He's also totally not sure if he's up for them either. Most of the night is spent enjoying the music, indulging in a few drinks to maintain a pleasant but very light buzz while retaining total control over his actions. Decked out in an offensively bright rainbow tank top underneath an oversized black net shirt and a pair of artfully torn up skinny jeans with a massive belt and equally massive brightly-coloured sneakers, Marco is a great dancer, and not afraid to ask anyone around him to dance whether they are a boy, girl, anything in between, or not even human. (Bonus points if you're not human.)

Later in the evening, he's feeling loosey goosey enough to try out the powder room, going all out and running around laughing and yelling, throwing handfuls of powder at whoever else might be in the room. After he's done, he's back on the dance floor, though this time he's a lot more touchy and inclined to a bit of dirty dancing, skin dyed with various bright colours.]

[It takes a few nights out at the all-ages raves before Marco ends up at the adult raves. Almost immediately, he heads into the powder rooms to have some fun playing tag like an idiot, then he's back out on the floor with a drink. It doesn't take long for the powder and the alcohol to take effect, and then it feels much easier to get into the groove of things, to dance up close and personal with anyone he happens to be around, all touch and sensation.

While Marco hangs back (mostly) from getting involved in any real in-depth action, he's watching everything and enjoying it, and he's not entirely averse to getting involved, it just takes a bit of chemistry and warming up.]

iii. tech expo

[And this is where Marco's nerdy side comes out - and frankly, his nerdy side is massive. While he's always been a tech fanatic with a serious interest in computers, it's really only been blown sky-high after meeting Ax and then hanging out in a Yeerk spaceship for seven months. Boring as it might've been sometimes, tech is seriously the best.

And this place is no slouch in the tech department either. Everything Marco knows about tech is either from the 90s or hyper-advanced and not human, and while a lot of the stuff at the tech expo is alien too, there's also a ton of stuff that developed in human cultures that's particularly interesting to someone who hasn't seen a ton of Earth tech. Marco spends a lot of his time investigating gadgets, eventually ending up upgrading his device to something new and sleek and totally insane. But the place he spends most of his time? Video games. He's always been a game junkie, and he's more than absorbed for several afternoons just exploring the games and playing them with whoever will play them with him.

Iona couldn’t help but find this all a little bit fascinating. There’s nothing like this in Thedas. Or if there is it’s kept a carefully guarded secret. Takes place behind closed doors. The culture of Riverview is certainly... unusual. And she can’t help but take advantage of learning a little more.

Dressed casually enough, but with touches that speak to the sort of thing she’s more familiar with, boots and bodice and comfortable leather trousers that fit her like a glove and fingerless gloves hiding the familiar green glow of the Anchor on her left hand, she makes her way towards it all.

She wonders how they even tell who’s of age, as she’s carded and allowed inside. Time cannot run the same on every world, so who’s to say that one world’s 18 year old counts as the same elsewhere? But it doesn’t matter, they manage it somehow, and after they determine she’s legal and she’s allowed to explore the riotous mess of music and people and colour. Finding her way to the bar is easy enough, and she orders something alcoholic at random (it’s strong and green and tangy and tastes faintly of something she’s told is called kiwi). Drink in hand she turns to lean with her back against the bar to better watch the goings-on.

The colourful powder is... intriguing, but she’s not going to dive in and use an unfamiliar (if legal) drug right away. Perhaps later, should someone feel like joining her in a bit of experimentation. But for the moment she’s content to drink, and observe, and converse.

Dancing, too, if the opportunity arises.


ii. kink convention

There’s a degree of openness to Riverview that Iona can’t help but find... refreshing. Strange and peculiar, too, a little, but mostly refreshing. And it’s once again curiosity has drawn her to the kink convention. It’s eye opening, to say the least. There’s plenty of things whose use is straightforward and easily determined, and others that... aren’t. And more scented items than she expects to find, fruity and sweet and more in between.


iv. street market

Once again Iona finds herself wandering the street market, taking advantage of the different variety of food available from the last. The desserts are fantastic, and different from anything she’s ever had before, and the savoury are just as delicious. It’s the games that draw her, this time, though, and she indulges more than once in playing the ones involving aim, and throwing things.

She’s had no need to draw her daggers with any regularity since her arrival, so she might as well use that aim for other things.

Dorian, admittedly, came to this convention independently of Iona and for only slightly different reasons. The sexual openness of the Quarantine was, indeed, refreshing to say the least, but even after being here for months, the Tevinter altus has having difficulty actually loosening up.

That didn't stop his mind from wandering when he saw one apparatus or another, or from being so distracted by those thoughts that he nearly ran physically into Iona when he turned from a certain demonstration. He recovered quickly enough, though, smiling.

"Iona! A pleasant surprise!" He grinned. "Did you know they have fully three displays dedicated to various ropes, here?"

[ He's the new Chief Medical Officer. It fits, the title, the space. It feels right and wrong at the same time.

Carson doesn't have much to set up at the little desk in the infirmary that's been given to him. He just sits there for a little while, settling into this new reality, but he's not good at being idle, not when he's on duty, particularly not on his first day. There wasn't much of an orientation, but he doesn't need much of one. The facilities are much the same, with the addition of "magic" as a treatment option. (Does he believe that? Not yet. Not entirely. Plenty of Ancient technology could be called magical, after all.)

At least an inventory of the infirmary's cupboards and supply room show the place to be well-stocked for emergencies, and the staff--his staff now--is friendly, professional, and eager to have someone behind the wheel.

Carson keeps his doctor mask on, his professional kindness firmly in place, and tries with everything he's got not to show how reluctant he is to take over.

Hopefully, hopefully, a patient will come in, and he can focus on them instead. ]

[ Carson is in attendance at both these events in a very official capacity--he's volunteered his off days from the PG, specifically, to serve as a consulting medical professional.

It's easy enough to find him at the all ages raves, tending to a vomiting fourteen-year-old who overdid their first drinking binge or gently lecturing an irresponsible diabetic about the sugar powders and the dangers of teenage rebellion.

His purpose at the adult raves is much the same--sit in one of the few quiet spaces on standby, give the occasional exam for the neurotic or the inexperienced, send a person or two off to the hospital with too much alcohol in their system. He might even be caught at a rave's bar during a break, getting a drink of his own. ]



iii. tech expo / iv. street market

[ Carson wanders. He's not used to time off. He's really not used to time off. But still, he's curious to see what medical applications some of the more advanced tech could have, so he trolls through the expo with a tablet in hand to make notes to himself as he walks.

The market has him sampling the various foods available and asking the sellers about their origins, sometimes to his regret. He even indulges in a few of the games, not doing particularly well at those that require precise marksmanship. Which is like... most of the ones he tries.

[ It feels like forever since Jim's really let himself go, and he is intent on making up for it. Dressed in a pair of white pants and a contrasting black scoop neckline shirt, he's already half-covered in the magic dust— along his jaw, down his neck and part of his collarbone, most of his hands and arms too, and whatever of his clothing happened to be in the way, all of it covered in tones of green, blue and yellow.

It makes his eyes stand out all the more, that's for sure. And Jim knows all too well that's a very captivating trait of his, which he takes advantage of as much as he possibly can.

Most people are feeling as friendly and open to casual touching and closeness as he is, but a loner by some corner is bound to catch his attention more so than anyone else. He debates approaching the poor guy sitting at the bar by himself for about half a second before he's sidling up to him, leaning against the counter right next to where he's sitting.

There's about an inch or two for Carson to breathe, for what it's worth. Not that Jim seems to hesitate much about leaning into the guy's personal space even more anyway. ]

Cute guy like you, all by your lonesome at a party like this... you know, it's almost a tragedy.

(Intrigued by the coloured powder, Lucretia's opted to wear something deliberately made to be ruined. If she can't go to a rave and whip out a sketchbook, she'll find another way to get her art on.

She's going to be spending most of her time in the section dedicated to the powders sans effect, carefully placing her hands into the little trays of coloured powder and leaving large, deliberate streaks of colour on her dress. She's pretty into it, actually. It's really fun to essentially finger paint herself a spin on this outfit. If anybody draws close to ask her about it, she'll happily engage in conversation, while good friends of hers may be asked to stick a hand print on the back of her dress. She's into sentimental crap like that.)

ii. kink convention (nsfw, closed to beverly; outfit)

(Lucretia still vaguely remembers the last time the Quarantine had held a kink convention; a time that feels very faint and far away now in comparison to everything that's happened to her since she arrived. She hadn't been interested then, but– well, she hadn't been seeing anybody then, either. This year, Lucretia, against all odds, finds her interest piqued.

She's still embarrassed to be here. That much hasn't changed! She sticks pretty close to Beverly, arm linked through hers as they take a little tour together, taking it in turns to peek into rooms, or to pause in front of brightly coloured displays. Lucretia is in awe of all the colour, actually. She'd been expecting all of this to be very matter-of-fact, and in some ways it is, but it doesn't seem to be without its fun either.

Something catches her eye then, and she gives Beverly a gentle tug toward it.)

You mentioned this before, didn't you? (It's a little table dedicated to the art of both shibari and kinbaku, decked out with several types of rope, instructional cards, photographs. Lucretia picks up one of the brochure from the table and draws close to Beverly so they might pour over it together.)

iii. tech expo (outfit 1, 2)

(Hey, who cares about all the adult stuff; there's art tech here. Lucretia immediately becomes extremely taken with a VR headset that allows the user to paint freely in the air around them. She spends a decent amount of time in that, fooling around with the 3D effects, absolutely captivated with the results it produces. Her only disappointment is there seems to be no way to save her work, so eventually she abandons the headset in favour of something a little simpler: a tablet, connected to a laptop.

Lucretia has never held a tablet pen before, but she picks it up pretty quick. She had no idea you could draw directly onto a computer, and, honestly? This opens up a whole world of possibilities.)

Incredible, (she murmurs, unsure of where she should start. She can just stand here and doodle for a bit, right? If anybody pops up behind her, they'll notice she's doing silly little cartoon drawings of what looks like jellyfish, testing out the different brush options with noticeable delight.)

This jellyfish, though, it's absolutely adorable and she ends up watching Lucretia for a while before walking up to engage her.]

[ piper's not a party girl, per se, but the finds herself drawn to the raves. something about the energy and the excitement. maybe it's the festival itself, a week long celebration of love and the daughter of aphrodite, but she finds she can't resist. she spends hours dancing wildly at the raves, beaming smile plastered across her expression, or playing a game of powder tag, walking out of the building covered head to toe in bright colors. at least they wash off and out of her hair, but she's back the next night anyway so really what is the point of washing it off?

piper is friendly as a rule, but she's not as outgoing as the typical aphrodite girl. this festival of love is definitely bringing all that out in her and she feels buoyed up by the outpouring of love (or lust, her mom wasn't picky). she can often be found at the raves, coaxing wallflowers from the, well, wall with a friendly: ]

[ aside from the food, piper is more interested in the actual market, lingering among the handmade goods and soaking in stories of the culture they come from like a sponge. she doesn't buy much in the way of jewelry or clothes, but she collects local art like they're pez dispensers. she likes beauty!

she also stops at the games but she can't decide if they're typical impossible to win carnival games or games where you might actually win, so she lingers trying to decide if she wants to give it a shot, murmuring to herself: ] I do like skee ball.

she tends to watch tv on her device rather than the communal television, but she makes good use of the communal kitchen, making leo's vegetarian enchiladas as a comfort food or miscellaneous veggie sandwiches. she doesn't seem to mind the company and she's always ready with an open, friendly smile and a kind word to the people she's living with. she's neat, mostly, but um. well, she's a teenager so. candy wrappers will pile up in the trash, don't ask questions. ]

( Throughout the days preceding, all people wanted to talk about was the party. Whatever she was delivering - pretty packages, food, large and obnoxious boxes - each customer had said the same thing. "Are you going to the rave?" She'd laughed, shook her head, before portalling to the next place. No thank you. Nope. Clarice hadn't been considering it - but slowly and surely the idea had trickled in, become something more solid and possible. Maybe a night out would be good for her - drinking, dancing, making friends. That's a part of her past she'd definitely like to brush the dust off.

That doesn't mean she's dressed up any different, her jeans are the ones she wears every day, the frayed edge of her tank top and battered sneakers ageing the entire ensemble. But she does have streaks of colour across her collarbones, her arms. In the dark, with the neon stripes of pink and blue and the bright green of her eyes, she definitely looks like something otherworldly. Being so obvious is more daring than she usually would like. Terrifying isn't even close.

But she's here to have fun and she wants to make the most of riverview, so she's unapologetic about how she looks, grabbing a beer from the bar and bopping her head to the music. )

Okay, I like to think I have moves. ( Why yes, person beside her she's just going to bulldoze into a conversation. ) But now I'm definitely going more drink to even attempt -- that.

( Clarice is definitely not an animal person. She's not. Just because she stole a dog from the Mutant Underground and is now playing with a robocat doesn't mean she's an animal person. She hasn't had time to become one. But the little robot is definitely cute, rolling onto its back to expose the panel of it's belly where she's clearly meant to tickle. ) You're so badass, yes you are. The most badass of robot overlords. ( Oh my god, she's so embarrassing. Cooing at a hunk of metal. ) I don't think my buddy Zingo would be too impressed if I bought you home with me.

( She doesn't even have an apartment yet. ) But when you rise up and take over the world, remember that I love you. ( So embarrassing.

Still, it takes her an age to drag herself away. She heard there were music players and the appeal to check them all out is too strong. Hopefully when she does actually start rocking out to some music she doesn't actually smack into someone. )

( The thing is, she doesn't need potent body paint or fancy sex toys. They haven't even caught her attention once in the whole festival. But the minute she's walking down the street holding on to John's hand, it's all she can think about. Maybe not quite sex, but closeness, intimacy, a romance that's blooming slow and cautious. There's a thrill at being allowed to do this, at having this thing that nobody but them cares about. They're barely seen by the people milling about, everyone too enrapt in other things to look their way. They stop at stalls and Clarice tries not to draw his attention to, or laugh at, some of the more risqué artworks. His shoulders are looser today, stance easy. )

So, Zingo totally tried to chase a space rodent yesterday. I think it was kind of like a squirrel but more fuzzy.

( The boxes of sweets at these things are definitely a weakness, and Clarice pays little attention to the 18+ signs as she lets go of John to hand over the chase, tucking the little pastel package under her arm. She moves away before she pops it open, because patience has never been her virtue, offering one to John first before choosing her own.

It's delicious, and she makes an agreeable noise in the back of her throat, nudging him with her arm. )

Like, she was halfway across the street before I even noticed. I'm seriously sure she does actually have powers of her own and we're just all blind to it.

[As the night progressed, the artfully applied gold across his cheekbones - his amused husband's work, not his own - had been accompanied by even more patterns of color. His black mesh shirt is more rainbow patterned now. There's a few obvious hand prints scattered over his shirt. He'd enjoyed the dancing but even a Shadowhunter needed a break - and something to drink.

Alec pauses while ordering to look at the being beside him. Blinking a few times to make sure that the light isn't making his eyes play tricks on him. He knows better than to ask about someone's marks, then she speaks and he automatically looks over and grins. She may have been referring to Magnus.]

She's managed to get her hands on her favorite color, a teal-ish shade of green that matches her eyes, and is happy to tag anyone she sees has already been partaking with a playful smack. Even with those who are not under the influence she'll be happy to grab them and pull them in for a dance, the drug only helping to enhance her excitement and general cheer.

The first thing Letha had to get herself was one of those throat-burning bird dishes. At first she tries her hand at being mischievous, encouraging others to try it without properly warning them about the spices, but before long she feels bad about it and makes sure everyone gets a drink to drown it out. She herself is happy to eat a two-person helping alone, her eyes watering and tongue on fire but still happy in the nostalgia of the taste.

She's also shopping for clothing, for old time's sake. She may be found around nearly any stall, making impulse purchases or carefully searching for something that matches whatever she's already found. Jewelry is just as high on her priorities, as are new foods and generally anything that seems remotely interesting. She's on a quest to dive head-first into Riverview's culture.

There's someone coming up behind Letha at a slow, limping pace. His lips curve into an amused smirk when he sees she's trying to get someone to try the spicy bird with her. He remembers very well when they had tried it, in his personal timeline, three years ago.

"Not again. Remember last time?"

When Letha turns around, there's Ivar. There's been a couple of changes since she last saw him. His hair is styled differently, and wonder of wonders, he's actually standing up with the help of a pair of archaic leg braces and a crutch. He looks at Letha with an unfathomable expression on his face. He's missed her, something he can't lie to himself about any longer.

He notes how much taller he is than her when he's able to fully stand up. She really is a tiny little thing. His eyes fall to the new marking on her arm. "You got a tattoo while I was gone?"

[So Tony Stark is in his element. After the mess that's been the past month or so, it's genuinely a relief to be surrounded by things he understands backwards and forwards, with people who clearly appreciate it. He might be a little overenthusiastic, but hey. It beats the alternative.

He's pretty easy to find, wandering around inspecting everything. Any of the tech he doesn't quite recognize gets a lot more interest, but he's managed to restrain himself from taking anything apart to see how it works on the sly. So far. But he'll mess around with anything that can be touched and stare at anything he can't and generally enjoy himself thoroughly.

And if he hears a question being asked, he might launch into an impromptu explanation or two. Or he might do it if anyone stands still long enough. Look, he likes talking about tech.]

[Okay, so he can't spend all his time inside. Even if he might try.

But for all his grumbling, Tony doesn't actually mind checking out the market much. The food especially, even if he does offer half of whatever he gets to anyone passing by. It just means he can try more things.

He brushes through the market, glancing idly around, but really what draws Tony's attention is the games, because why not. He's decent at anything that requires aim, way better at the VR and holographic systems, and has absolutely no problem making an idiot of himself. Before long, he's got a small pile of prizes and a slightly smug grin. He might offer to share those too, if anyone seems interested.]

[John's a soldier, not a scientist. He understands and appreciates the practical applications of technology, and at this point in his career, can fly or shoot just about anything, no matter who made it, or where it's from, but he still calls Atlantis Geek-Squad when his laptop lags. He has no idea how all those viruses get in there, but it definitely isn't from downloading music, movies and porn.]

Oh, c'mon. That can't be real.

[He's standing with his face pressed to the glass of an exhibit containing a sword with a vibrating energy blade, which looks a lot like the iconic weapon from one of his favourite movies back home about wars and stars.

The best part is it can be equipped to the top of a rifle, like a laser bayonette. How useful would that be? Run out of bullets and you can hack your way out of trouble with a lot less effort than the standard blade or machete.

[ When the festival was announced, John was pretty much ready to just hide away in his corner of the communal floor he still lives (he really needs to do something about that). But.

But he is not in the Quarantine not to take some risks, push his own boundaries a little. His comfort zone is entirely outside of something like Sampremi, all about sex and intimacy in a kind of openness John doesn't have about these things. But he has to try, at least to an extent, which is why he goes to one of the raves.

He's not the kind of guy to go clubbing. The music, the bodies, the enclosed space, it all plays with his senses and makes him a little dizzy, unable to focus as well as he usually can, sensory overload shorting him out. It might be why he doesn't see the handfuls of neon colored powders that hit all at the same time, staining down his shirt along the front and back, orange and yellow and blue. ]

My one good shirt, really?

[ His fault, really, it's not like the whole paint thing hadn't been advertised. Well, not much to be done now, and it's better than getting a drink spilled down his chest anyway. He pushes through the crowd, getting more paint all over him, in his hair and down his cheek, but like this, it's easy to lose himself, to dance even though he's no good at it, to let the sweat run down his back, to jump along when everybody else is. He feels like a stranger in his own skin for a moment, enjoying it.

And that's when someone spills a drink down his front. ]

Well, if I ever want to wear this again...

[ It's almost by mistake that John finds a way to the roof of the warehouse the rave is held at. He's stepping out for some air, because he feels like he can't breathe inside, too many bodies, too much dust in the air. He finds the ladder just walking around, still shirtless, not really feeling the cold of the night. It's all too tempting to go up, look around, surveying the surroundings, like the good little soldier he is.

It's different here. John kicks some gravel from under his boot as he sits on the ledge, sitting with his legs crossed and his hair down, blowing in the breeze as he looks out, the inhabited part of the area illuminated, looking beautiful from out here. He can't help but think of all that's going on right now, the celebrations of intimacy, sex, love.

It's not that he's embarrassed, exactly, by any of it. It's not that he's scared of it, either, but... the timing sucks. Majorly.

Here he is, trying to prove a point in his relationship with Clarice, and now the whole place they've ended up in is trying to tempt him. Maybe, honestly, hiding away in his bunk would be a better plan. ]

It'd be just my luck. Sure, why not make the whole place all about sex when I'm trying not to think about it?

[ Finn, not especially given to big indulgences on the day-to-day, finds himself kind of embracing the opportunities provided here for once. Last month got really intense and really out of hand between the canister and everything from home that it entailed, and the city's take on trying to force people to deal with resentment, and whatever that thing with the emotion-sharing was?? He spent a chunk of time without a sense of touch at some point, which was far from ideal for him personally.

Finn's still not a fan of being here, still not sure why there are always so many celebrations all the time, forever. But he's able to admit that there's a point where reprieves are welcome. Don't think about stuff and go about your business, the lifestyle.

So basically he's hitting the color rave scene on a mission for good times? He's drinking within a reasonable limit, and sporting little streaks of color here and there from the powders (mostly non-spiked powder, but he made an allowance or two).

Finn is pretty bad about personal space even on a normal day, honestly. He's pretty predisposed to standing too close, leaning in when he talks, impulsively reaching for people. And the thing with a First Order childhood is that there's a broad encouragement of a firm lack of casual physical contact. He's working with a deficit. If he weren't concentrated down into a tightly contained internalized disaster most of the time, he'd be a lot better at seeking touch out. He would in fact be soaking it up like a human-shaped sponge in a swimming pool, probably. Because he does like it.

Thanks to the power of consensual raving, he's finally relaxed enough to evolve into his next, most powerful form: Finn, The Affectionate Drunk Disaster. Join him while he dials his personal space levels up to 11. It's time to grab some hands. It's time to hug some strangers. To sit down literally right next to them even when there's more than enough space to not do that. It's time to be dead-center in a weird-ass cuddle pile, probably.

He also ends up doing... a little bit of time on the dance floor? Not to dance. He only really ends up out there when the party does as raves do, and it's more of a weird semi-fistfight mosh pit situation full of people all trying to reach for other people and jump around. It's wild. Someone elbows him in the face and he spends the rest of the song grinning through a bloody nose. He ends up with a glowstick and has no idea how???

[ Or if sober and back on his usual levels of uptight restraint is more your speed, he definitely does some street market touring. Gotta get back to low-key somehow. And there's a lot of interest to be had for this, for trying a new food or two, seeing what all the stalls have to offer.

He deliberately avoids anything advertised as aphrodisiac-laced, but apart from those, it's all fair game. Clearly targeted towards couples, but like. Does he... care...? If he doesn't want all of what he gets, he doesn't mind politely offering the other half up to someone else in the same line. And there are still a lot of stalls for jewelry and clothing and other non edible stuff that's worth getting a look at. Local culture, bro. It's still neat.

Finn's also hitting up a few games for sure. Things based around fighting and good aiming are things he's usually pretty damn good at. The games are maybe more the point of playing than the idea of prizes, thanks to what may or may not be a little iron-forged competitive streak, and he definitely doesn't make a clean sweep of every run, but he winds up with a few neat new things to his name. What's a grown man and skilled soldier supposed to do with a goldfish and stuffed animals or whatever it is they hand out? He has no idea. He didn't think this through.

So he might be offering things to random people, just like he did with the food. It's fine. It'll be fine. He doesn't want to throw anything in the trash, is all. ]

[Taako thinks this is a rescue mission. He sees the dance floor dissolve into some sort of overly intense mosh pit and that's not really his jam, but then he catches a glimpse of Finn somewhere in the middle of it and well, he worries? A little? He knows from their few conversations that there are a lot of things Finn is new to and he assumes this might be one of them.

He's buzzed on the powder but not enough that he can't spell cast, so a quick blink gets him to Finn without having to fight his way through a crowd of people. So he's sort of just - there. Suddenly. Reaching out for Finn's shoulder so he can lean in to be heard over the music.]

[ Emma wasn't much of a party goer really, but honestly given her life, she would try anything once. Since she herself grew up without parents, she wanted to make sure all the children or young adults in the Quarantine were having fun. She can be found passing out the sweet treats and when the music starts she even braves the waters to start dancing. She pays particular attention to the wallflowers of the group. ]

[Emma can be found sampling various foods. The food and the general mood of the festival put Emma in a more companionable mood than usual. She was taste testing things, but she was more than open than usual, giving smiles to those around her. If she happened to find someone that looked slightly lost or hungry, she would offer them a bite to eat.

A leopard couldn't change it's spotting after all.

She could also be found playing the games, but her aim was a little off. ]

[Lyle was wandering through the market, more or less just enjoying the atmosphere. There certainly were a lot of markets like these for the different festivals, but they all seemed to be different enough.

But as he wandered, he spotted a young woman playing some of the games, by chance overhearing her comment]

Archery's not as easy people want you to believe. But you're doing pretty good at it.
