In the days leading up to March 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Sampremi. This is one of Riverview's four yearly celebrations of love, this one focused on sexual love and lust, and sexual relationships that might bloom into more (or not). Traditions associated with Sampremi are a roving street market, raves where residents can seek out some free love and get a little crazy, a massive week-long kink convention, and a tech expo with all-ages and adult options.

a celebration of sexual love and lust

Riverview has always been a place focused on love and building connections in order to foster community, and for a lot of people, sex is part of that, which makes it something worth celebrating! For people who use sex as a way to connect with others, even if only for a short time, or those who use it as a way to connect on a deeper level with the ones they already love, Sampremi is the perfect holiday to get their freak on in a host of new and exciting or comfortable and familiar ways. The holiday features a large kink convention, where various entities in the city can show off their toys, explain their niche kinks, and share their insights with anyone who might be interested, a series of raves that are both all-ages and adult where residents can find someone(s) to share a night (or a week, a few months, or even a life) with. This year, there is a large tech expo where cutting edge tech companies in the city are sharing their newest toys, like improved virtual reality, robotics advances, and many other types of toys - all for work, play, or, in the spirit of the holiday, pleasure. And for those who don't want to connect through sex or who aren't old enough to, there are dances, games, and an entire market full of street food that's meant for sharing, so they can connect in other ways.

i. color raves

Advertised on flyers and digital screens around the city, made to pop as if they were under blacklight, is a series of what's called "color raves" that are happening in various large empty warehouse spaces around the city. They are called color raves for the bright colorful lights, the preponderance of glowsticks that attendees wave around, and for the brightly colored powder for attendees to play with, some of which is spiked with a mild party drug and some of which is just for fun (with the difference clearly marked, of course). There are three types of color rave - adult, all-ages, and youth raves.

(CW: DRUG USE) At each adult rave and all-ages rave there is one specific room where attendees can enter (after proving themselves 18+), and dance or play tag with brightly colored powder that contains small amounts of a legal party drug commonly available in Riverview, which is absorbed through the skin. Not much more intoxicating than having a few beers, the effects of the drug are a pleasant low-key buzzing euphoria, positive sensitivity to touch, a heightening of desires for intimacy, and a mild lowering of inhibitions. Once a character has been hit with the powder, the color lingers on the skin so other attendees can know who has partaken, but once the powder makes contact with a surface (whether it is skin, clothing, or structural) it deactivates, meaning that partakers can safely dance with non-partakers without sharing the intoxicating effects.

Adult raves will have bouncers at the door to ensure that anyone entering is 18+, and there is no limit to when and where the debauchery happens. Clothing is optional, showing skin is encouraged, and there are a lot of neatly tucked away spaces for attendees to get some time alone with one or more than one person, as well as spaces intended for orgies. The atmosphere is sex-positive and non-judgemental, open to any orientation or preference, with various forms of protection available for free, however, to ensure that everyone plays safe there are sober security teams out en masse at all premises to oversee the events.

All-ages raves are open to anyone who wishes to attend, regardless of age. There are bouncers at the door who will check ID and stamp the hand of anyone who is 18+ with a special ink that shows up under blacklight for easy identification. At all-ages raves, 18+ and underage characters can mingle, but there are specific areas set aside for only 18+ characters where they can get down and dirty either in private or the open.

Adult and all-ages raves will have only spiked powder to avoid confusion.

Youth raves are intended only for younger characters under 18, so they can stay up all night and dance like crazy, and meet other young people in the city. The legal drinking age in Riverview Quarantine is 14, and so anyone over 14 can enter and indulge in a few drinks, dancing, and playing tag with a version of the colored powder featured at the adult raves that won't give you anything but a sugar high. There is copious amounts of security on site to ensure that everyone is safe, as well as nurses and off-duty police officers to offer advice or care for anyone who overindulges out of lack of experience. Youth raves will have only sugar powder, brightly colored and sweet to the taste, meant for fun and to play tag with rather than to cause intoxication.

ii. kink convention

For the week of March 4-10 there will be a massive kink convention on the top floor of one of the large exhibition centers downtown, limited to characters 18+. The exhibition is a sexy adult informational convention featuring various kinks and fetishes. Whether you're into leather, latex, lace, or anything else, you'll be able to find the clothes, toys, guides, books, erotica, fiction, and a wide variety of other interesting stuff to explore. While the atmosphere is sex-positive and there are private and public (for the voyeurs and exhibitionists in the room) venues for having sex, it's definitely focused on exploration and information about different stuff to try.

If someone has thought of it and figured it sounded sexy, it can be found here, and with Riverview's high level of tech advancement and widespread acceptance of magic, things can get pretty kinky. Whatever your kink is, there's probably a VR program, sex toy, potion, or spell that can make it happen, and someone who's got the downlow on how to make it great.

iii. tech expo

Riverview prides itself on its technological advancement, and so, running concurrently with the Kink Convention on March 4-10 and on the bottom floor of the same convention center, various cutting-edge tech companies in the city will be sponsoring a Tech Expo. The expo features demonstrations of all of the most advanced technology that's coming into use in the city, ranging from advancements in VR and holotech to robotics and gadgets, you can find the latest and greatest in almost any area of modern technology. Attendees will be able to come with a friend or a date or anything in between to play VR games, enjoy holoprojected escape rooms and puzzles, meet robot pets, try out the most recent music player or that new cell phone that can bend without breaking, and a wide variety of other gadgets.

While most of the tech expo is all-ages and non-sexual, there is a decently-sized adult area where characters must show ID proving they are 18+ in order to enter, where the technology is mostly related to sexual use. This area features advanced sex toys, VR systems intended to explore sex with other people in a virtual environment with no strings attached, sexy video games and holoprograms, and many other sensual technological.

iv. street market

One of the major draws of the festival is the special street food that can only be obtained this time of year. Almost everything you can buy at the Sampremi Festival is meant to be shared - whether it's one piece of meat on two or more sticks or desserts baked with a narrow part in the middle for convenient tearing, everything is built to be shared. The stalls sell everything from cups of soup, sandwiches, roasted or fried meat, deep-fried vegetables and cakes, dumplings, donuts, bagels, turnovers, and anything else you can think of.

Many of the savory dishes are based on the meat of a particular fowl native to the moon Riverview is situated on that has a taste and texture halfway between chicken and duck, cooked to be spicy (ranging from very mild to throat-burning). Many of the desserts are based around a fruit native to the moon that is spherical, red-orange, and has a light sweet taste that is similar to a combination of mango, pineapple, and strawberry. Both ingredients are considered to be aphrodisiacs. Of course, the foods aren't actually aphrodisiacs and any effect is purely placebo, though there are some booths (clearly marked and with someone to check ID) that sell actual aphrodisiac-laced foods and drinks to people who are 18+.

The festival features an entire row of fair games ranging from very high-tech games featuring virtual reality and neon holograms to extremely old-fashioned games with darts and balloons or balls and glasses. The games all have prizes in various shapes and sizes, with the standard stuffed animals, but also with goods and special items donated by any business in the city; ranging from tiny prizes to huge and expensive ones. Due to the nature of the holiday, many of the stalls are set up to cater to winning a prize for your partner(s), and due to the nature of the Quarantine, a lot of them involve aiming or other aspects of pretending to fight.

Originally, the part of the street festival that involved an actual market, with stalls and booths set up with goods, was aimed primarily at romantic trinkets like flowers or jewelry, gifts intended to be purchased for a loved one. As time has gone by, however, this aspect of the market has increased, with many businesses participating, though the emphasis is still on small businesses and anything relating to local culture rather than booths for any of the larger more corporate businesses. There is still plenty of jewelry to be found, for sure, mostly handmade and artisan, but the scope of the Market has widened immeasurably. The Sampremi Market is an excellent place to find specialty foods, clothing, jewelry, art, or other goods that were originally native to cultures on other planets in this reality, or other realities altogether. Many residents in the city use the market to share their unique cultural goods and traditional dress with others.

[ Jim has to admit, he is caught a little by surprise when Victor shifts around so he's straddling him. For a second or two he seems to be at a loss of what to do, even. While they are at a slightly more private corner of the rave, they still are in the middle of the party, and while he personally couldn't care less, he thought Victor might be the type to mind that a little more. ]

Guess we do. [ His lips stretch into a smile, and he looks up at Victor, both hands resting on his thighs. ] You sure you're alright? Continuing— here.

[it's not that he forgot they were at a rave, but the fact of it had drifted off to a corner of his mind he was currently ignoring. His need to get close to James, to touch him and be touched, made this pretty easy.

So when James calls his attention to it, he blinks and the party comes back into focus]

Right. The rave. [his eyes drop to where James is touching him, then glide up to the man's face. A wicked spark lights up Victor's eyes]

You could just wait to have your way with me, but that's up to you.

[ Well, if Victor's aware and still willing, he's not about to stop things and make them both wait. He's not all that much into torture. Letting out a soft growl under his breath, he lifts a hand up to curl it around Victor's neck, tugging him down so he can slot their mouths together in a deep kiss.

His other hand trails farther up in the meantime, fingertips slipping underneath Victor's shirt, aching to have more skin on skin contact. ]

That's what I-- [anything else he might've said is drowned out in the kiss. He groans into it, his fingers going to James's hair and curling in just tight enough. True he might've had some reservations about being this intimate with James at a party, but those just don't seem to matter now.

His back arches gently to follow those fingertips. He breaks out of the kiss to breathe, keeping their lips close]

How much of that powder do you think we can smuggle out before someone notices?

[for science, but also there's clearly a use for it they could both enjoy]

[ Well, Victor can feel embarrassed or possibly even mortified about this in the morning, but Jim's not about to complain or stop him if he's willing to let go right now, even in a fairly public setting. Not that many people seem to be paying them any mind, if anything they seem to avoid the couch, leaving that corner for the two of them to take up.

He gasps softly as the kiss breaks, fingers sliding farther up Victor's side and back, tracing up the curve of his spine. Victor's shirt rides up his torso a little with the motion, falling back down when Jim's touch goes lower again. ]

So far as I know... you can't take any. [ At least at the last party with something similar it wasn't allowed, and security was pretty strict on that. However— ] You're a scientist. I'm sure you could come up with something similar.

Hmm. I could.

[a project for another day. He's currently sitting on what he wants to pay attention to. Victor presses into another kiss, making it deep and heated, his body shifting as it tried to follow the path of James's hands. Even the feel of his shirt sliding on his body is making him groan a little. Positive sensitivity to touch, indeed.

Victor whines feeling the shirt fall back into place but then his pulse jumps as James's hands go lower, jerking forward reflexively. With a little smirk his fingers slide down the neckline of the man's shirt and curl tightly into the fabric.

Victor's not sure how he'll feel about this in the morning, but he's making it pretty clear how he feels about it right now]

[ His own heart leaps in his chest when Victor arches closer suddenly. His hands curl and press to where the waistband of Victor's trousers begin, pulling him closer, while he shifts slightly on the couch, eager to get even closer to him.

It doesn't do wonders to his clarity of mind, but he's well past the point of caring about that. Both his hands press to the small of Victor's back, fingers curling and nails digging lightly into the skin.

His head tips back and the skin of his neck burns at the touch, knot in his throat bobbing as he swallows dryly. He wants to feel Victor's lips there again, but on the other hand... well, the doctor's skin is looking even more tempting than usual, so he leans in himself, licking up the curve of his neck himself this time around. ]

[he can feel the music pulse through his body and hear the noises of the other party-goers, but it's all very indistinct. Like having the television on in another room: it's just background noise, easily ignored.

While craning his neck so James can taste more skin with his tongue, Victor manages to unlatch his hands from the other man's shirt and direct them to his own. He fumbles with the first few buttons but eventually gets his shirt open.

He'd hardly be the only man at this party with his shirt open and chest exposed]

[ He's not the only one with his chest exposed, in fact there are a few showing even more skin than Victor, but none of them grip Jim's attention as much as the doctor does right now.

And when Victor's hands leave him to fumble with the buttons of his own shirt, Jim's completely mesmerized. His gaze falls to those fingers deftly undoing the buttons one by one, and once the shirt's open all the way, his hands round Victor's sides, fingertips running up his stomach instead, guiding the fabric to part wider so he can expose more of that skin to him, and to the slow but intent exploration of his hands. ]

[his lips leave James's again, though more because he wants to hear the noises he's sure are going to come out of the captain. Just hearing James breathing heavily is pleasurable. Instead Victor's lips dip down to the man's jaw and this time his tongue does lick off some of the powder. Though honestly he would've done that even without the powder.

He bumps a little against James's hand but doesn't try to demand for more. James allowed him a slow exploration, so he can return the favor. Victor just has the disadvantage of being overly sensitive to touch because of the drug, so every brush of those fingers has him trembling and yearning for more]

[ Closing his eyes, he cants his head to the side, exposing his neck for Victor to kiss, lick and suck all he likes. A soft groan slips past his lips, his hands curling a little tighter on Victor's sides, before one trails farther up his torso again, fingertips brushing across a nipple.

Touching Victor is proving to be as addictive and electrifying as his desire to be touched. His neck burns where Victor's lips are kissing him, and he shifts on the couch again, wanting to feel the doctor press up against him in some way, any way at all. He aches even for the slightest hint of friction that will ease some of that need. ]

[he hums his approval, nuzzling James's neck before letting his tongue slowly graze the skin and pressing his lips to it. He's suddenly decided that another bruise may be in order. Victor begins working toward that, his hands running over James's shoulders and down his chest while Victor's mouth works his neck.

He presses against James's hands, rolling his hips forward to gently grind against the other man. Nothing too aggressive yet, as he's trying to let James keep control of this]

[ His other bruise is practically gone by now, so actually, yes, he agrees on that: a new bruise is most definitely in order. So he offers up his neck for the taking, letting Victor take his time and mark his skin all he likes.

He rather likes this pace, too. Hot and intense even while achingly slow, a fire that's burning him from the inside out, little by little. If their track record's anything to go by, it's only a matter of time before they lose whatever ounce of patience they still have left, but until then his touch is calm and gentle, a hand dropping low to Victor's thigh, curling around and grabbing his ass, guiding him closer and towards his lap again. ]

[he stops what he's doing briefly to press a light kiss on James's lips. Victor pulls back to observe the effect. As he expected, some of the powder he got from James's neck is now on the other man's lips. Not like he really needed the powder to be drawn to those lips, but the effect is still mesmerizing.

He nudges back against the hand on his ass before rolling forward toward James's lap again. Victor directs his lips back to James's neck to continue working on that bruise. The way he sucks on the skin is greedy, his fingers gripping tight to the back of James's shirt and another in his hair. Knowing how James likes it, Victor tries to have at least one hand in the man's hair most of the time]

[ He kisses Victor back briefly, looking a hint amused, not even aware yet that he has the same colored powder all over his lips now too. He's too eager to get Victor's lips on his skin again, so when his mouth finds its way back to his neck, Jim is all too happy to oblige, tipping his head back again. ]

Victor... [ He purrs softly, sighing and closing his eyes at the fingers sifting through his hair. Victor really can never go wrong with playing with Jim's hair, no matter how gentle or rough. He can feel goosebumps flare across his skin, a prickling sensation spreading from his scalp and all over his body. His hand at the front drops to Victor's navel, popping the button of his pants open, fingertips brushing playfully across the skin. ]

[his fingers lightly scratch the back of James's in answer, as Victor's mouth is currently busy. Damn, but he loves the way James says his name. It annoyed him a little how the people of Storybrooke still insisted on calling him "Doctor Whale", but now he's glad. It makes hearing his true name more special, and of course the way James says it thrills Victor all over.

His other hand finally pushes under James's shirt to trace along the flesh of his lower back. Victor gasps, bumping up against the hand. He hadn't gotten that far in the powder experiment, but that hardly seems to matter. His skin is alive and aching for James to touch him anywhere those fingers want to go]

[ He loves the taste of that name on his lips, loves saying it and seeing the reaction he gets from Victor. He likes it almost as much as he likes hearing Victor calling him 'James'. It is, quite possibly, one of the sweetest things that Jim's been the recipient of, and it sends a soft fluttery feeling spreading through his chest each and every time.

Jim really can't help himself, not when Victor's this open and willing. He's still trying to figure out where the limits lie, and realistically there's only so much they can do while on the couch, but he still can slip his hand into Victor's trousers and cup him over the fabric of his underwear, rubbing a little and offering more direct and present friction. ]

James.

[there is heat and need in the way he says the man's name, and he ends it in a groan. It had never occurred to him to use any other name for the captain, and much like James calling him "Victor", he now likes to say it because of how the man reacts.

His fingers dig in a little into James's back and he's careful to leave enough space for the man's hand to do whatever it wants. Which seems to be a good idea when he feels the hand cup him. He gasps, unsure whether to press against it or stay still]

Uhhmmn.

[he almost says something like "people can see us", but James is surely aware. And Victor knows that this is a sex-friendly festival and a sex-friendly rave, but it still makes his head spin having James grope him so openly in a public place]

[ Jim's hand squeezes a little, but then stays still, as he sits a little more upright and studies Victor's stance and expression. Evidently he's enjoying it, he can tell by how hard he is against his hand, and how he doesn't actively push Jim away. Still, he can tell there's a hint of tension there, so he has to pause. ]

Do you— you want me to stop?

[ As difficult as it would be, he'd do it if Victor would rather find a more private spot. At the party or elsewhere, really. He can totally wait that long. (... probably.) ]

[Victor meets the other man's eyes and is suddenly struck by the intensity in that gaze. The lenses he wears help focus colors prominently and that includes eye colors. He traces a finger around the corner of one amazingly bright eye]

Nothing really shakes you, does it?

[he says it admiringly, now tracing around the other eye]

If I hadn't taken the drug, I would still be here wanting you, so.. . no. I don't want you to stop.

[ A smile tugs faintly at the corner of Jim's lips, and he lifts a shoulder. ] A few things do.

[ But not in the way Victor means, no. He's never been easy to embarrass, and the fact that the rave has such a sex-positive vibe only helps. No one's watching or judging them, and evidently no one's rushing to call security on them. Then again, people are getting freaky a little bit all over the place, some even in much bigger groups than just the two of them, so. ]

I want you too. [ He closes his eyes, tilting his head towards the soft touch of Victor's fingers on his face. Fingers curl between the doctor's legs, squeezing and rubbing gently against his growing bulge. ] I want you all the time...

[Victor doesn't really know what to do with a declaration like that, or the one earlier where James said he was special. Thankfully James is touching him, letting his thoughts temporarily fragment. He presses against the hand a bit eagerly. These, at least, are the kinds of warm feelings he can deal with.

He's still having a hard time forming words, though. So with a smile touching his lips, Victor rests a hand on James's chest and taps "OK" in Morse code]

[ If it helps, it's a topic Jim's not rushing to get into, not just yet anyway. They've practically only just met, and this is one way he doesn't mind getting to know people better— at all. Even if a small part of him starts to feel like he doesn't even remember how to keep things casual anymore.

Victor effectively drives those thoughts out of his mind when he taps against his chest, and a smile curls at his lips. He kisses his cheek, then up to his temple, one hand trailing up his spine while the other keeps groping the doctor, working him at a slow, teasing pace. ]

[they're in agreement on that: this is an excellent way to get to know people better, and Victor doesn't feel like he can ever get enough of knowing James this way.

He whimpers but doesn't try to push against the slow pace. His own fingers go down to the hem of James's shirt, sliding it up enough so he can touch the warm skin underneath. Victor tilts his head to follow the kisses, humming deep in his throat]

S'good, James.

[ His stomach dips a little at the first touch, a deep growl crawling up his throat. Jim dips his head and mouths along the slope of Victor's neck, tasting him with thorough licks and slow sucks, feeling his own skin burn at even the simplest touch. Victor's fingertips are barely tracing his muscles and he's already going out of his mind with want. ]

Keep going, [ He pants, voice a little husky. His fingers fumble with the waistband of Victor's underwear before his touch is slipping past it and touching flesh directly. ] Keep touching... want your hands on me.
