monthly mingle: SAMPREMI
what: monthly mingle: sampremi
when: The month of March.
where: Anywhere around the city.
warnings: there will likely be nsfw content; please put any necessary warnings in the subject lines

In the days leading up to March 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Sampremi. This is one of Riverview's four yearly celebrations of love, this one focused on sexual love and lust, and sexual relationships that might bloom into more (or not). Traditions associated with Sampremi are a roving street market, raves where residents can seek out some free love and get a little crazy, a massive week-long kink convention, and a tech expo with all-ages and adult options.

Riverview has always been a place focused on love and building connections in order to foster community, and for a lot of people, sex is part of that, which makes it something worth celebrating! For people who use sex as a way to connect with others, even if only for a short time, or those who use it as a way to connect on a deeper level with the ones they already love, Sampremi is the perfect holiday to get their freak on in a host of new and exciting or comfortable and familiar ways. The holiday features a large kink convention, where various entities in the city can show off their toys, explain their niche kinks, and share their insights with anyone who might be interested, a series of raves that are both all-ages and adult where residents can find someone(s) to share a night (or a week, a few months, or even a life) with. This year, there is a large tech expo where cutting edge tech companies in the city are sharing their newest toys, like improved virtual reality, robotics advances, and many other types of toys - all for work, play, or, in the spirit of the holiday, pleasure. And for those who don't want to connect through sex or who aren't old enough to, there are dances, games, and an entire market full of street food that's meant for sharing, so they can connect in other ways.
● OOC NOTE: Please be sure to warn in subject lines for any threads involving sexual content, drug use or other content that fellow players may wish to avoid, and do not use the prompt mechanics to circumvent consent in your threads, as non-consensual sex is not permitted on the game communities. Items such as aphrodisiacs, VR, or party drugs mentioned in the prompts are intended to facilitate consensual sex, not to encourage sexual assault, or to 'trick' characters into having sex that they would not normally have. ICly, please remember that there is always security to intervene and make sure everyone is safe.
i. color raves
Advertised on flyers and digital screens around the city, made to pop as if they were under blacklight, is a series of what's called "color raves" that are happening in various large empty warehouse spaces around the city. They are called color raves for the bright colorful lights, the preponderance of glowsticks that attendees wave around, and for the brightly colored powder for attendees to play with, some of which is spiked with a mild party drug and some of which is just for fun (with the difference clearly marked, of course). There are three types of color rave - adult, all-ages, and youth raves.
(CW: DRUG USE) At each adult rave and all-ages rave there is one specific room where attendees can enter (after proving themselves 18+), and dance or play tag with brightly colored powder that contains small amounts of a legal party drug commonly available in Riverview, which is absorbed through the skin. Not much more intoxicating than having a few beers, the effects of the drug are a pleasant low-key buzzing euphoria, positive sensitivity to touch, a heightening of desires for intimacy, and a mild lowering of inhibitions. Once a character has been hit with the powder, the color lingers on the skin so other attendees can know who has partaken, but once the powder makes contact with a surface (whether it is skin, clothing, or structural) it deactivates, meaning that partakers can safely dance with non-partakers without sharing the intoxicating effects.
Adult raves will have bouncers at the door to ensure that anyone entering is 18+, and there is no limit to when and where the debauchery happens. Clothing is optional, showing skin is encouraged, and there are a lot of neatly tucked away spaces for attendees to get some time alone with one or more than one person, as well as spaces intended for orgies. The atmosphere is sex-positive and non-judgemental, open to any orientation or preference, with various forms of protection available for free, however, to ensure that everyone plays safe there are sober security teams out en masse at all premises to oversee the events.
All-ages raves are open to anyone who wishes to attend, regardless of age. There are bouncers at the door who will check ID and stamp the hand of anyone who is 18+ with a special ink that shows up under blacklight for easy identification. At all-ages raves, 18+ and underage characters can mingle, but there are specific areas set aside for only 18+ characters where they can get down and dirty either in private or the open.
Adult and all-ages raves will have only spiked powder to avoid confusion.
Youth raves are intended only for younger characters under 18, so they can stay up all night and dance like crazy, and meet other young people in the city. The legal drinking age in Riverview Quarantine is 14, and so anyone over 14 can enter and indulge in a few drinks, dancing, and playing tag with a version of the colored powder featured at the adult raves that won't give you anything but a sugar high. There is copious amounts of security on site to ensure that everyone is safe, as well as nurses and off-duty police officers to offer advice or care for anyone who overindulges out of lack of experience. Youth raves will have only sugar powder, brightly colored and sweet to the taste, meant for fun and to play tag with rather than to cause intoxication.
ii. kink convention
For the week of March 4-10 there will be a massive kink convention on the top floor of one of the large exhibition centers downtown, limited to characters 18+. The exhibition is a sexy adult informational convention featuring various kinks and fetishes. Whether you're into leather, latex, lace, or anything else, you'll be able to find the clothes, toys, guides, books, erotica, fiction, and a wide variety of other interesting stuff to explore. While the atmosphere is sex-positive and there are private and public (for the voyeurs and exhibitionists in the room) venues for having sex, it's definitely focused on exploration and information about different stuff to try.
If someone has thought of it and figured it sounded sexy, it can be found here, and with Riverview's high level of tech advancement and widespread acceptance of magic, things can get pretty kinky. Whatever your kink is, there's probably a VR program, sex toy, potion, or spell that can make it happen, and someone who's got the downlow on how to make it great.
iii. tech expo
Riverview prides itself on its technological advancement, and so, running concurrently with the Kink Convention on March 4-10 and on the bottom floor of the same convention center, various cutting-edge tech companies in the city will be sponsoring a Tech Expo. The expo features demonstrations of all of the most advanced technology that's coming into use in the city, ranging from advancements in VR and holotech to robotics and gadgets, you can find the latest and greatest in almost any area of modern technology. Attendees will be able to come with a friend or a date or anything in between to play VR games, enjoy holoprojected escape rooms and puzzles, meet robot pets, try out the most recent music player or that new cell phone that can bend without breaking, and a wide variety of other gadgets.
While most of the tech expo is all-ages and non-sexual, there is a decently-sized adult area where characters must show ID proving they are 18+ in order to enter, where the technology is mostly related to sexual use. This area features advanced sex toys, VR systems intended to explore sex with other people in a virtual environment with no strings attached, sexy video games and holoprograms, and many other sensual technological.
iv. street market
One of the major draws of the festival is the special street food that can only be obtained this time of year. Almost everything you can buy at the Sampremi Festival is meant to be shared - whether it's one piece of meat on two or more sticks or desserts baked with a narrow part in the middle for convenient tearing, everything is built to be shared. The stalls sell everything from cups of soup, sandwiches, roasted or fried meat, deep-fried vegetables and cakes, dumplings, donuts, bagels, turnovers, and anything else you can think of.
Many of the savory dishes are based on the meat of a particular fowl native to the moon Riverview is situated on that has a taste and texture halfway between chicken and duck, cooked to be spicy (ranging from very mild to throat-burning). Many of the desserts are based around a fruit native to the moon that is spherical, red-orange, and has a light sweet taste that is similar to a combination of mango, pineapple, and strawberry. Both ingredients are considered to be aphrodisiacs. Of course, the foods aren't actually aphrodisiacs and any effect is purely placebo, though there are some booths (clearly marked and with someone to check ID) that sell actual aphrodisiac-laced foods and drinks to people who are 18+.
The festival features an entire row of fair games ranging from very high-tech games featuring virtual reality and neon holograms to extremely old-fashioned games with darts and balloons or balls and glasses. The games all have prizes in various shapes and sizes, with the standard stuffed animals, but also with goods and special items donated by any business in the city; ranging from tiny prizes to huge and expensive ones. Due to the nature of the holiday, many of the stalls are set up to cater to winning a prize for your partner(s), and due to the nature of the Quarantine, a lot of them involve aiming or other aspects of pretending to fight.
Originally, the part of the street festival that involved an actual market, with stalls and booths set up with goods, was aimed primarily at romantic trinkets like flowers or jewelry, gifts intended to be purchased for a loved one. As time has gone by, however, this aspect of the market has increased, with many businesses participating, though the emphasis is still on small businesses and anything relating to local culture rather than booths for any of the larger more corporate businesses. There is still plenty of jewelry to be found, for sure, mostly handmade and artisan, but the scope of the Market has widened immeasurably. The Sampremi Market is an excellent place to find specialty foods, clothing, jewelry, art, or other goods that were originally native to cultures on other planets in this reality, or other realities altogether. Many residents in the city use the market to share their unique cultural goods and traditional dress with others.
v. roommates or wildcard
Feel free to use this prompt to meet new roommates, for the purpose of getting to know each other, or hit up the mod-posted prompt to create a Communal Housing floor mingle. Or, if you have an idea for a prompt that isn't in this list, set during Sampremi, feel free to write it up!

i.
He's right up near Finn (not that he knows his name) when he sees the dude get elbowed in the face and start bleeding everywhere. It only takes a second to notice that dude is also still grinning, even while blood runs down his upper lip, and Roy laughs, bright and loud, bouncing his way over. Lifting his hand for a fistbump, he beams at Finn.]
Sweet, first mosh casualty of the night!
no subject
And maybe it's the powder, or the drinks, or the adrenaline from jumping around in a crowd of people with zero personal space to be had, but he basically forgets it hurts nigh instantaneously. Maybe something he will understand better tomorrow. It's cool. That's future Finn's problem. ]
Just gotta see if my luck stays that good!
[ The unfortunate reality is that Finn's been in the Quarantine for about three months and has not ever been taught how to fistbump. He's a fairly smart dude, though. He thinks he gets it.
The pause where he considers Roy's fist is juuust a little too long to be from a person who knows exactly what's up with that, but after the processing delay he kind of hillarys it. It's less like a fistbump and more like a forceless, directed punch. The nerd way. ]
no subject
Oh yeah. He just did that.
When the guy says he has to see if his luck stays that good, Roy laughs, bright and uproarious and unrestrained.]
Hah! You'll need good luck!
[He'd say more if it weren't the middle of an awesome mosh pit. He'd warn the guy that he's never been in a mosh pit that didn't leave him with multiple bruises, abrasions, split lips, and bloody noses. Those were the best kinds of raves and concerts, where you hopped around and got beaten and let out all the stress and strain and forgot how much the world sucks for a bit while your adrenaline pounds and all those nice endorphins built up...yeah. The best thing.
The moment he's done yelling, he's jumping again, elbowing people in the face, shoving them around, but he sticks close to the other guy, feeling like maybe he's enough of a kindred spirit to hang out with after they've had enough of the pit.]
I'm Roy, by the way!
no subject
He loves it when people do stuff. Sometimes especially the dumb little things that don't really make sense yet.
And while Roy's laughter is bright and infectious enough to set Finn grinning more widely, getting back onto the jumping around side of the tracks is arguably the most fun part of this meeting. ]
Good to meet you, Roy! I'm Finn! [ There's a sense of solidarity in having Roy stick with him. Sure, the point of coming to the dance floor was because he already liked the reckless, semi-dangerous, adrenaline-packed, always-touching-someone vibe it has going for it, but now it's also sort of like having a little team at the same time. Best of both worlds. (Eat it, Hannah Montana.) ]
I'd shake your hand or something, but-
[ A vague shrug-adjacent gesture. It's obviously not the greatest location for standard meet and greets. ]
no subject
No matter how different the places they come from might be, though, it really seems like they have at least one thing in common - really enjoying hopping around getting smashed in the face and banging elbows and shoulders and hips with total strangers while the beat of the overloud speakers thrums through their bodies.]
Great name!
[And here's a cheesy thumbs-up as Roy jumps, arms in the air and head thrown back. His red hair is sweaty, he lost his trucker hat ages ago (exactly the reason he hadn't brought a sentimental one) and he's just soaking in the vibe of the whole place. It's great.]
Haha! Shake it later, right now, let's just kill this mosh pit!
[A loud holler, as he jumps around, and as one of the adjacent moshers staggers back toward Finn, Roy gives the guy a giant good-natured shove in the opposite direction, winking at his newfound mosh partner.]
no subject
He has a nice smile.
A little wild, oddly reminiscent of Nines with his red hair and blue eyes-- but only barely, in passing. Roy's buzzing with his own energy. And Finn doesn't get to meet a lot of people for the first time while he's doing something legitimately fun. Bloody nose included.
All of it combined, the over-the-top thumbs-up and and the push and the wink, finally does pull a laugh out of Finn. He spreads his arms for a moment, as wide as he can in this crowd. ]
You cover me, I'll cover you!
[ Time to own the hell out of mosh survival tbh. They have the gumption to destroy the opposition and probably to win a DDR tournament between them, and Finn wants his mosh buddy to survive. ]
no subject
When Finn laughs, it's like sunshine, and Roy's caught a little off guard by it, honestly. And when Finn spreads his arms and says that, gives an offer of cover, Roy feels a rush of pleased excitement.
'You cover me, I'll cover you.' Damn that sounds good.
Especially arriving on the tail of the breakup of his partnership with Jason, the idea of someone having his back, of having someone whose back he can watch, sounds really good. Even if it's only for a couple minutes in a stupid mosh pit.
Roy Harper is sounding extra pathetic tonight. Oh well, time to throw all that pathetic energy into keeping himself and Finn alive in the mosh pit, and trying to break his personal record on staying in one.]
I've got your back, man!
[He yells it, and then continues jumping around - and actually manages about two more songs before he's about ready to go get a nice big drink.]
no subject
Two songs or so is about where he starts to wane in his commitment. Not to doing his part to make sure Roy doesn't get knocked over or anything, but more for the high-intensity mosh pit energy as a whole. Normally Finn wouldn't mind sticking it out until the crowd starts to naturally die down on its own-- well, normally, as in he's done that the past couple of nights in a row without any problem and it was fine.
But hitting a certain point, one hand on Roy's shoulder to sort of steer him away from a dance floor pile-up waiting to happen, Finn has to face the unfortunate reality that blood dries and it's not a comfortable experience when it happens. There's a limit on how long he can ignore it without starting to feel on-edge, and he'd rather not hit that limit at all.
He'd weirdly hate to lose track of Roy by ducking out, though. Attaching fast has turned out to be a thing he does, once he got to the part of his life where attachments weren't strictly off-limits. ]
Hey! Hey, I gotta clean my face up, but did you wanna-?
[ Finn realizes he didn't plan out the second half before he started talking. Hang out? Meet back up? He guesses? Rather than think of words, he gestures vaguely in the direction of the nearest sitting area.
If nothing else, at least he'll know he let Roy know that his backup is leaving the mosh pit. Which is arguably very important. ]
no subject
When Finn seems to hesitate about where he's going, he laughs brightly and slips past the other young man to lead him toward a little couch. Shouting back over the music, he speaks.]
Yeah, I wanna. I'll grab some water and we can clean this up, yeah?
[A bright grin, and a wink. Honestly, this is the kind of thing he enjoys, thrives on. Energy and making friends and being social, taking care of people even if they're strangers.]
no subject
Sounds like a plan.
[ His own personal cleanup plan so far is just grabbing a handful of napkins. He guesses he's a bit past the point of dry napkins. ]
no subject
So maybe Roy's a little fluttery, a little too happy, when they get to the chairs and settle down, jittery and grinning and practically radiating that energy Finn was into.]
Stay put, okay? I'll be right back.
[And he heads off. Roy's nothing if not resourceful, so by the time he gets back, he's not only got a bottle of water and some paper towel, he also has a few packs of gauze and some prepackaged painkillers. Settling down in front of Finn, he opens the water bottle and hands it and the painkillers over.]
How you holding up over here?
[Roy knows, deeply and personally, the way that coming down from an adrenaline high can make an injury feel way way worse than it did in the moment.]
no subject
He slams the painkillers and a mouthful of water without question, because they forged a mosh pit bond and he trusts in that. His legs are already starting to feel sore after all the jumping. It's turning into a little bit of a time. ]
I'm starting to think something hit me in the face earlier. [ Dry as the desert sand? Yes. His smile still hasn't died out completely, though. ] But if we're trying to be positive, it could be worse than it is. Been a pretty lucky night for me so far.
no subject
Which is kind of pathetic, really.
When Finn makes that deadpan joke, Roy can't help it, he bursts out laughing, shaking his head while he starts dabbing carefully at Finn's upper lip and around the corners of his nose, clearing away some of the splatter so he can see the damage.]
I consider any night where I'm only bleeding from one spot a lucky night, personally.
[It's warm and casual, and he raises one red brow as he grins at Finn.]
Even more lucky if I run into someone cool at the rave, you know? So I'm gonna call it a lucky night on my end too.
[Leaning back, he takes a look at Finn's face, laughs again softly.]
You know, this is a good look on you.
no subject
Finn likes warm and casual. It's only really been a possibility in life for the past handful of months, but he took to it like a fish to water. Or maybe like a sponge to water, as the case may be. Being in close quarters and navigating is par for the course. Casual contact hasn't really lost the novelty, even living with Poe "hugs like a punctuation" Dameron.
So no complaints here, honestly. If anything, he's got the prime angle to watch Roy's focus zero in before he laughs. Which he's not against. Like almost everyone he's met here, Roy has a nice face and it's hard to miss. And in light of his clear efforts to be careful, Finn puts his sitting-still training to its best work yet. ]
First time trying it. [ He gets caught in a brief loop of trying to pull an unimpressed face, only it involves a little nose-scrunching, which hurts, which makes him want to scrunch his nose up more, like it's supposed to help. Is it still worth it??? Yes. ] Last time trying it. Hopefully. I usually meet people without making them mop me up.
[ Disaster bi power move: I swear I'm not bleeding all the time and could still be cool. ]
Not that I don't-- I still appreciate it. I mean.
no subject
Honestly? Roy's also all about warm and casual. Those things have been woven through the fabric of what he is his whole life, just like his tendency to the nerdy, but it's not actually all that often that those parts of him are welcome, wanted. Usually he's working hard to get through the armor on someone or another who doesn't really want his attention or affection. Having someone around, even for like 15 minutes so far, who really wants that attention, feels good.
When Finn tries to make a face and then wrinkles his nose, winces, and goes into a little cycle of it, Roy laughs, abruptly. It's cute, and Roy can't help but be incredibly charmed by it.]
Thanks for the reassurance, man, but some of my best friendships and relationships have started with mopping someone up. And I mean, usually the circumstances aren't as uh...enjoyable as this.
[Is he flirting? He's pretty sure he's flirting. Wow.]
no subject
Roy's laugh is infectious enough to put a grin on Finn's face. And the rest is enough to keep it there. ]
I know the feeling. [ See: how he met anyone before he got here. ] You're definitely pretty enjoyable, though.
no subject
That grin is really good though. Like, seriously good. Roy could get used to looking at that grin. Which is a terrible thing to think, honestly. Because there's a bit of expectation there, and Roy's getting used to expectations being a bad thing - no expectations means you don't get hurt.
Wow. Downer, much?]
Oh, uh. Wow thanks. So are you. You know, we should definitely hang out sometime that's not in the middle of a rave. Or is in the middle of a rave. We could totally hang out here.
no subject
I mean, I think we could manage both. Unless you're only around when they're throwing parties in warehouses.
[ Like the modern version of chance meetings with mermaids or something, I guess. ]
no subject
[Roy's grin softens, his eyes warm, and there's no mistaking the hint of relief behind his expression. The fact that Finn wants to hang out too shouldn't be as big a deal to him as it is, it really shouldn't. It wouldn't, if he wasn't such a loser, if he hadn't been arriving from a long string of rejections and abandonment that makes the whole concept of friendship a bit of a sore spot.
Maybe this whole new world thing isn't such a negative. Maybe he'll be able to start fresh and make real friends that won't ditch him when things get tough. Is it stupid to hope for that? Probably. But he's stupid. It can't be helped.]
Actually, you know, I don't often go to parties in warehouses. You?
no subject
Finn is glad to see his expression smooth out a little. Reads like a good thing to him. ]
Not before this week. Wanted to try something new. See if it was worth going out. [ And as it turns out, jumping around in the mosh pit was hype as hell and he's met some really cool people. Win-win. ]
no subject
There are some things that can be forgiven but not quite forgotten, after all.]
Spoilers: It's always worth going out.
[Another little grin, and he leans in a bit.]
You want to find somewhere quieter to take a break before it's once more into the fray?
no subject
(And honestly yeah, Roy could probably get the full Star Wars sequel adoption experience if he's ever in the market for it. It's their go-to move.)
Finn keeps his eyes on Roy for a long second, considering. Maybe he's actually thinking about his answer instead of already knowing with full impulsive conviction what it is. Maybe he's trying to figure out if Roy is definitely flirting with him for sure through sheer willpower and observation. Maybe he's just enjoying the view and enjoying being in a nice uncomplicated good mood for a change. Regardless: ]
I think I'd like that. [ Finn pushes his chair back and gets to his feet. ] And this party sets a pretty low standard for quiet, so at least we're gonna have options.
[ finn there could be zero options and you'd probably offer to make out with him in the mosh pit at some point. that's what the kids call a messy disaster. ]
no subject
Right now, though, he's way more interested in Finn looking at him like that, dark eyes on him and considering him, and there's something kind of validating about that. Roy can feel his ears heat up and he can only really hope that with the bright lights in the darkness and the red hair poking out from under the edge of his trucker cap, Finn can't tell.]
Oh yeah. For sure. You know, I think I saw some...you know, chill out crash rooms back there. With you know, couches and lounges and stuff.
[Vaguely, he gestures behind himself, toward the back end of the warehouse, eyes still on Finn's face.]
You in?
no subject
[ No room for aloof chill in the crash room zone. Not that anyone in the entire warehouse has been broadcasting chill anyway. But that's fine.
Finn never put any points into his play hard to get stat.
He takes hold of one of Roy's wrists, a loose grip that's easy to shake off by design, ostensibly for the sake of not getting separated while winding their way through rave central. It would be lying if I said it weren't also at least 10% impulsive "free physical contact real estate"-motivated. ]
You lead, I'll follow.
no subject
[He can't help the ridiculous little grin he gets on his face when Finn says it sounds like fun, chilling out in a lounge with him. Honestly, Roy's barely even given thought to whether or not they might make out, or if he wants to - at this point, he's just excited that someone wants to hang with him.
When Finn takes hold of his wrist, his grin widens just a little more, and he goes along with it easily, closing his fingers on Finn's sleeve, and stepping ahead of him, leading him back toward the crash rooms he'd seen on his way in. For now, there's no point in talking much more, not while the music is loud and they're dodging people in the crowd.
It's only when they get toward the back of the warehouse and a few doors start to appear, closed off with curtains or open with the insides of the rooms visible, that Roy turns to talk to his companion again.]
So uh...how long have you been around here? In Riverview I mean.
