[open] Catch-All for the Remainder of August

At Keith's response, Shiro just laughed. Of course he would come up with that. If he was going to lose to Keith might as well go all the way and add in the trash talking.

Random level was good, let's see what they ended up with. He was pleased that it wasn't going to be an easy course. Both of them would have to work at it. As soon as the counter reached zero, he pushed his joystick forward as well, trying to get as much speed as quickly as possible and navigate the course. His wasn't as fast as Keith's, but hopefully the other stats would help with this course too.

Keith had sacrificed handling and a few other things to get top speed, so he was definitely having some trouble staying on the track. But the straightaways were his each time. There were only three laps, and, with Keith catching up every straightaway, it was going to be a tight match...

Shiro kept losing ground on the straightaways but when the course began to turn, Keith had more trouble staying on course while Shiro's more balanced craft was able to stay inside the course better. They seemed to be fairly well neck and neck through most of the course. This was really going to be a photo finish to see who got the right to gloat...

Keith suddenly gasped and dropped the controller to grab the sides of his head with a small groan. He curled in on himself, not sure how to process what he was feeling. It wasn't actually pain, but it was definitely uncomfortable as things started to come back to him all at once. He squeezed his eyes shut and curled up into the corner of the couch, breathing hard.

Shiro looked away from the game long enough to process what had happened when Keith dropped the controller, instinctively pausing the game. As Keith pressed himself into the corner of the couch, curling in on himself, Shiro moved over to close the gap, putting his arm around Keith's shoulders as the teen held his head. He could only guess that the tea was working now.

It was a lot of emotional whiplash to deal with in such a short time. The Kerberos Mission, being told they had crashed and were all killed, that it was Shiro's error, getting in trouble and subsequently kicked out of the Garrison, feeling completely lost, the compelling urge to search and those lion carvings pointing to an arrival, that arrival being Shiro and having to break him out of the Garrison bunker, finding the Blue Lion, bonding with Red, Voltron, all the battles, and fighting, and almost losing Shiro, then finding out about his Galra heritage, the fall out, losing Shiro again, and then ending up in Riverview... with Shiro...

Keith wasn't sure if he wanted to scream or cry or what, but let Shiro pull him into a hug, curling up against him and clinging to him as he tried to just process almost three years worth of baggage in the span of a few minutes...

Shiro pulled Keith closer as the teen curled up against him, wrapping both arms around him and holding him close. He knew what Keith had lost so it was going to be a lot suddenly coming back like that. Whether Keith screamed or started to cry, Shiro wasn't going to let him go until he was feeling more like himself.

Keith ended up just staying there a while. He didn't outright cry or anything like that, but he held on to Shiro like a lifeline for a bit. He could feel himself shaking a little, and he did end up wiping his face free of a few tears as he slowly started to come down again. He sniffled, not pulling away, yet.

"That was pretty intense..." he whispered, his voice sounding slightly embarrassed about his reaction. It had caught him offguard, as he'd been fully distracted and absorbed into the game, and then... bam! It just hit him like a truck. "I didn't think it would all come back like that." Not that he knew what had been missing at the time, but he had figured out that enough time had passed that maybe it would have come back slowly over the course of the night...

Shiro just continued to hold Keith as long as he needed to, letting the teen cling to him for dear life. In a way, it was. He needed something solid to hold onto so he didn't get lost in that. Shiro waited, feeling Keith shaking against him, wiping his eyes.

"Yeah, that looked like it was pretty intense." Even though Keith wasn't looking at him, he gave him a faint smile. "If I had known it was going to be like that I would have warned you."

Keith nodded a little.

"I know..."

It was pretty exhausting, though. So, he just stayed put, not really caring if anyone walked in on them at this point. He was tired and strung out and really just needed this. He rarely ever let himself do this, anyway, and three years of roller-coaster feelings and emotional whiplash was as good enough a reason as any to just let himself sit there in a hug.

Keith closed his eyes, focusing on his breathing, and just willing himself to calm down. Slowly, the shaking started to subside.

Shiro didn't make him move, letting him come down from that in his own time. He had to be exhausted after that. He'd lost nearly three years of memories and then they had all come rushing back, just like that. Yes, Shiro would say after going through that, a hug was not an inappropriate thing to want. He had been worried when Keith had lost those memories and worried again when he had suddenly flung himself to the corner of the couch in pain.

He could gradually feel Keith's shaking going away. Still he didn't let him go, waiting for Keith to make the move that he was okay now.

It wasn't until a little while after the shaking stopped that Keith finally sat up and away from Shiro. He rubbed his face again, just taking a bit to feel things out. He was pretty sure he felt nauseous, but he figured that was just from the shock, so he didn't bother mentioning it.

"Thanks..." His voice was quiet. Keith didn't seem to notice that his face was a little flushed, but he did feel oddly warm. He pulled off his sweatshirt, leaving just the t-shirt from underneath on.

"No problem. It's good to have you back, Keith."

Well at least have him remember everything. He had still been Keith before, but without as many memories.

But Shiro frowned when Keith suddenly took off his sweatshirt after that. Also his face looked redder than it had before.

"You feeling all right?"

"I guess?" Keith said. "I mean... that was a lot to deal with." He rubbed his forehead, closing his eyes for a moment. "I don't know. I don't exactly know how something like that is supposed to feel."

"I'm not sure how that is supposed to feel either so if you're not feeling like yourself, I need to be able to tell someone to find out if it normal."

He reached over and put his left hand on Keith's forehead, back of his hand against Keith's skin.

"You do feel warm. Let me get you some water."

And barring objections from Keith, Shiro would get up to get him a glass of ice water.

Now that he thought about it, Keith did feel a little feverish. His initial thought was that it was too hot in the room, but Shiro's touch felt cooler than he expected.

"Well, I guess we know how long it takes to kick in..." he muttered. He took the offered glass of water, and curled up back into the corner of the couch. "I mean... I don't feel great, but I'm not sure." Other than the apparent fever he'd suddenly developed. "I guess I'm a little nauseous, and I've got something of a headache..."

"Yeah, we know how long it takes now."

Shiro handed him the glass of ice water and watched as Keith pressed himself into the corner of the couch, holding onto the water. He frowned, listening to what Keith said.

"It sounds like there are some side effects with this. Take it easy. Hopefully this will only last a few hours or so." He got up after a moment, going back to his room. He came back out with a small bottle of pain killers. "If you want see if it will help."

Keith nodded, watching Shiro head out. He took a sip of the water and then pressed the cool glass against his face for a moment. He looked up at Shiro when he returned, and then nodded again.

"Yeah... it might help with the fever, too." Sometimes that was a thing, so he was willing to give anything a try at this point to get past this discomfort.

He could definitely see that Keith wasn't feeling well when he came back in to find the teen holding the glass against his face. He sat back down beside Keith, shaking a couple of the pills from the bottle out into his hand before carefully passing them to Keith.

"Want me to check and see if they have any information about this?"

Since he's fairly certain this is the side effect of the tea.

"If you want." Frankly, Keith didn't care so much about that at this point. He just wanted to stop feeling crappy. He took the pills, and then worked on stopping himself from guzzling that glass of water. The game was completely forgotten, too.

The game was still on; Shiro hadn't turned it off yet. But he did turn off the television so it wasn't taunting Keith with how well he had been a few minutes ago.

"I don't think there's much point to it now." Keith would still be feeling bad whether he checked or not.

After a moment, Shiro was up again, walking down the hall. He wasn't gone that long, returning with a damp towel, putting that against the back of Keith's neck. It was cool so it should help him feel better.

"Mm." Keith looked up when Shiro headed out, watching him in curiosity. He figured it out when Shiro came back with the towel, and it did help, even if it gave him a slight chill at first. It didn't feel bad, though. In fact, it felt nice, so he left it there, only adjusting it enough to pull his hair out from underneath it.

"Man, this stinks..."

Shiro sat down beside Keith, putting his hand on his shoulder. "I know it does. Try to rest. That should help. You can stay up here until you feel better."

Shiro's roommates were probably used to him being around by now. Not only had he visited before, but since losing his memory, Shiro hadn't wanted the teen to be wandering around on his own. Losing three years of memories and finding himself in a strange place would have been difficult. So another day or so wouldn't hurt anything.

Keith would honestly be surprised if they weren't used to him being there at this point. He finished the water and put the glass aside, then pulled his sweatshirt back on. The "fun" thing about fevers was feeling hot and then cold, almost at the same time. He leaned on Shiro, closing his eyes.

Shiro gave him a sympathetic smile seeing him put his sweatshirt back on. Now he was cold again. Shiro carefully put his arm around Keith again, letting the lean into him. He couldn't take this away from him, but he could be here to make Keith feel better until this was over. "Let me know if you need anything else."
