( closed ) lost research
who: Jim Kirk, Leonard McCoy, Peggy Carter, Re-L Mayer, Shai Ebbisaryn, Sans, Dick Grayson, Scott Lang, Yuuri Katsuki, Victor Nikiforov
what: a rescue mission
when: from May 15th through to the end of the month
where: abandoned area, along the river, the delta and the waterfalls; between the first and second walls
warnings: monster attacks, probably some injuries/blood, don't expect anything more than that; add any needed warnings on your own threads as needed, please!
Despite the risks, most of the journey was a fairly quiet one. A lot of hours walking, making their way along the riverside, trekking through the woods and across small clearings. When the sun set they'd set up camp somewhere, and as soon as it rose they got back to their feet and out towards the Delta underneath the waterfalls.
Jim made sure they had all they needed; maps, compasses, whatever devices that could help them navigate the terrain. As far as supplies went, they had plenty of covers and extra clothes to make sure they didn't suffer through the colder nights, but there were no luxuries out here. If it rained, they'd be mostly unprotected, and they could only shower and wash their clothes so long as they had the time and access to the stream of the river. There was plenty of food, hopefully enough to last them the round trip, but they also had a myriad of tools and weaponry needed for any hunting and scavenging so they didn't always have to consume from the food they'd brought along for the trip.
The creatures living out here were another concern, and on a journey this long, they were bound to run into something sooner or later. They should be packing enough weaponry to keep the team safe and everyone in one piece, though.
Hopefully, it would be worth it. Jim didn't even care if they didn't get their hands on any of that research— all he cared about was that there were people possibly lost and in danger out there, and he wanted to try and save them.

For all things medically related!
For Yuuri: Setting up and medic talk!
Going over the list one more time, he glanced over at his young 'apprentice' and handed him the list. "Could'ja check this one more time for me, Yuuri? Sometimes I miss things without someone to look over it the second time." Usually he did the process in reverse. Someone else checked then he did, but since the younger was just learnin', he didn't want him to feel that kind of pressure.
"You feelin' up to this? Don't know what's gonna be out there." Granted the doctor felt that Yuuri was pickin' things up real fast, even if he knew he'd been taught before he'd picked up again here in Riverview.

Yuuri took the list from him, shaking his head. "I'm a little nervous" Okay, he was actually a lot nervous. "But this is a good way to see where I'm at, right?" He folded and unfolded the list in his hands absently, the action betraying just how worried he actually was. "I just...don't want to be stuck inside the city forever. That means I need to get used to going out on missions."
no subject
"Look, it's only natural for people feel nervous. Hell, I know I feel that way every time I go out on somethin' like this." Even more so because he knew Jim would play the big damn hero and get himself hurt. "I remind myself that I have a bigger job to focus on. People rely on me to put 'em back together when they go to far or stretch themsevles too thin. Just remember, bein' brave's got nothin' to do with bein' fearless and everything to do with what you do in spite of bein' afraid."
Offering him a small smile, he reached out and lightly squeezed his shoulder. "It'll get better. Promise. But for starters, distractin' yourself helps."
no subject
"It's okay to be afraid," Yuuri murmurs, almost to himself. Suddenly, he realizes that the idea of possibly patching people up is far less scary than trying to fight and protect people through sheer strength alone. He's studied for this, shadowed Dr. McCoy at the hospital for experience--he's not going into this blind. Some of his panic begins to retreat, and Yuuri inhales deeply.
"Okay." Dr. McCoy's hand on his shoulder grounds him and Yuuri smiles back at him. "Better make sure we have all the supplies we need, then."
no subject
Shuffling through the vials, he smiled to himself as Yuuri seemed to find his second wind. "Better be prepared, I say. Just remember, much as a doctor or medic may want, don't get in the way if we get in a tussle. Cause if we get hurt, that leaves the others with no help." First rule of field work, too bad he tended to break that rule quite often cause of Jim.
"Feelin' better about it?"
no subject
He's practically beaming when he looks at the doctor again.
"Yeah--I am. Thanks." This time, he's able to smooth out the list and stop himself from fiddling with it nervously. "Oh, I... it wouldn't be a good idea for me to jump in anyway. I've been practicing defense, but I don't think I'd be able to help that much in a real fight."
Yuuri suddenly perks up with curiosity. "Did you ever get any kind of combat training when you joined Jim on the Enterprise?"

AWWW YEAH
"You got a bandaid or something?" The whole nonchalant act would probably work a bit better if he didn't look about ready to keel over.
OMG.. I love you Scott XD
Letting out a sigh, he pulled out a device from his own medical kit that is a dermal regenerator before setting it to the side in favor of cleaning the wound first. Who knew was was on those damn things claws. "Gettin' tired out there, champ?" He chose to think that was the issue over a possible concussion, not that it stopped him from using his tricorder, waving the wand over the man's head, his eyes on the readouts in his hand.
Mutual love society!
"What? not like I lost an eye or anything." Or, clearly, had any significant injuries to his ability to speak and share his wit with the world. That'd be a real tragedy!
"Tired? Me? Heck no. I'm a one man asskicking machine." Who is just, uh, gonna sit here for a bit. And give that whole wand thing being waved over his head a fishy eye. "Abracadabra!" hahahaah he kills himself with his wit.
XD I am sorry Bones is not as loving as I am. But it's part of his charm.
Once he got a clear reading that there was no concussion and only possible bruising going to happen, he started to clean the wound. "If I was gonna be doin' any magic tricks, I'd be makin' you actually funny so you'd quit embarrassin' yourself." Smirking just a little, he kept his touch surprisingly gentle for the words he was sayin'.
"At least it's not a concussion. I'll have to seal up the wound and try to treat it to keep it from swelling up with the bruising."
it totally is
Hey, hey, don't insult a man's humor. "I'll have you know, my daughter thinks I'm hilarious. And my girlfriend. Who is, for the record, totally hot." Okay, Hope would punch him in the throat for calling her his girlfriend, but, hey, he's out of range! One benefit of being stuck in a weird monster-ringed city.
no subject
He only stopped though, when the man brought up the fact he had a daughter. For a long moment, he stayed still before he cleared his throat and picked up the dermal regenerator. Carefully moving to mend the skin, he bit at his lower lip and dared to ask the next question. "How old is she? Your daughter?"

"Evening, Doctor. You a mind for a moment's company?"
no subject
Lifting his head, he politely stood the instant he realized it was a lady. Old habits die hard, of course. His ma raised him right, and he'd live by that. "Ma'am." He tipped his head to her then smiled a little, ducking his head. "I wouldn't mind at all, though I can't vouch for comfort. But I might have something for you to make yourself comfortable on." Which had him instantly putting his manifest away so he could look for something for her to sit on that was more comfortable.
no subject
"Here," she says as she holds out the bowl for him to take. "Noticed we missed you at dinner. Best keep your strength up."
She's not the most nurturing person by nature - no mother-hen, she - but there are certain gestures that she's carried over from Janirak, expressions of regard or care that fight their way to her playboy surface once in a while. Food is almost its own language to her people, and sharing it is still important to her.
no subject
Pausing in his movements, he let his eyes move to the bowl only to smile as he reached out to take it. "Guess I lost track of time. I try to keep a good handle on things like supplies. I don't like being caught by surprise."
Motioning with one hand to have a seat, he sank down onto the ground beside his supplies. "I didn't catch your name. Sorry for my lapse in manners. You might've already heard my name, but I'm Dr. Leonard McCoy."
no subject
She has no way of knowing if he's being genuinely self-deprecating or if he just undervalues himself, so she opts to account for both possibilities. "Part of assembling a team, Doc, is making sure everyone has a strength to account for someone else's weakness. I can stitch up a wound, sure, but you won't catch me performing brain surgery. You're doing your part just by tagging along with the rest of us." Her tone is warmly reassuring, but brooks no bullshit just the same.
From her spot on her little chair, she gives him a wave at the cursory introduction. "Commander Shai Ebbisaryn, of the Ephemera. Not from the same universe, of course, but I've heard tell of your Enterprise. Your captain's quite enamoured of her." Same as she is of her girl. They bonded over a mutual love of their respective ships, as it were.
no subject
Not that anything really surprised him anymore. "Nice trick ya got there." He nodded to the chair, before starting to eat the food not wanting to let it go to waste. The doctor had a thing about such things, but that might be in part cause of his job and part cause of his best friend.
"Another person to anthropomorphize a damn ship. Why am I not surprised?" Huffing softly, he shook his head. He knew damn well that Jim was in love with that tin can. Sometimes he figured he loved it more than anything else. Something that made him sigh. "Hate that he got taken away from her. Guess it would be the same for you." Where he liked the metal boat, he had other things he wanted to go back to more... like his daughter.

because she cannot help herself..
[ Of course, at some point Re-L has to wander off somewhere, and, of course, manages to get herself attacked by some form of beast. This time, at least, she's coming back directly after injury, and it's not quite as bad as it had been back on the Eluvio. Not that McCoy would remember it, but she's pretty proud of herself at the moment. Well, slightly. She's not very happy that she's managed to get herself hurt, nor that she'd made enough of a commotion to warrant being checked on, even if Dick had been perfectly kind about it.
Her palm is still bleeding, and fairly liberally, which is what prompts a visit to the good doctor - clutching some kind of cloth in her hand to try and stem the flow. ]
McCoy? I think I may have a problem...
And Bones just sighs and shakes his head.
Well, was stayin' out of it, cause he feels a sense of worry bubbling up in his chest as he notices Re-L coming to him from the latest fray saying those words to him. He instantly has his tricorder out and med kit at read as he beckons her over.]
What seems to be the problem, Re-L? [He's already running a scan as soon as she's in reach and it picks up the details of a wound that has him collecting items he needs right that moment to clean and seal it up.] Got any reason to think those monsters got any sort of venom in 'em?
SORRY BONES
[ Thankfully there's not been much action on her end. She's spent much of her time observing and just in general staying the hell away from things that she'd have to fight too intensely - her assignment had been guarding, after all, and it wouldn't due if she was injured early on and couldn't hold up on her end of the deal. Of course, she was also too damn curious for her own good, and the occasional dalliance of wandering wasn't all that unusual for her either. Which.. had ultimately resulted in this injury, of course, but beggars couldn't be choosers.
Without clues how were they supposed to find what they wanted to in the first place? ]
It's nothing too catastrophic, don't look like that already. [ Of course, that's in her opinion, who's not medically trained, but in contrast to the other injuries she's sustained both at home and in adventures previous, a deep cut along her palm wasn't all that high ranking in terms of laborious injury. Either way she sticks her hand out, red already seeping through the gauze she and Dick had wrapped there to keep it somewhat under control, her pale skin already sort of stained from previous run off. ]
No, I don't have any. Particularly not in claws, though... I'd be more worried about anything water bourn in such a water logged place, right?
You're not sorry!
You came close to it doin' some real damage. Not to mention we're too far away from real medical tools, so best take care of yourself while we're out here. [He motions for her to sit and instantly he's unraveling the makeshift bandage and starts to clean the wound thoroughly before starting the regeneration of the muscles and tendons before daring to close up the wound.]
More worried about infection with the climate here. I know from the readings your healing rate is accelerated, but if you start to feel feverish, you better tell me right away.
no subject
I didn't do anything. It was that stupid monster that apparently waited until I got close enough in the reeds. [ Some were smarter than others, that much she was completely and utterly assured of at the moment. Some were clearly more like prey animals that tended to run and hide, fight defensively but ran more often than not when faced with humans. Others.. were flat out violent and out for blood.
Such as the cat-like one who'd given her this nice little injury. Of course, she also had long, boney hands so the route to injury was much easier than others probably. She sits as beckoned and presents her hand more easily for his inspection, still freely dripping blood when it becomes too much for the laceration itself to contain. She's remarkably calm considering the whole ordeal, but then again, this is Re-L.
Well, other than a slight hissing noise as he cleans, though that glaring look doesn't last very long. ]
I'll make an effort to tell you. I'm not sure if we'll have time to stop, though, depending on how all of this develops. [ A small pause, then : ]
I'm rather hearty, when it comes down to it.
no subject
I'm really relyin' on your body kickin' anything that might've gotten in. But thanks for tryin' regardless. Last thing we need is some infection goin' systemic. I know I've cleaned the wound itself well enough to know that won't be an issue. [Starting to put his medical supplies away, he catches her hand softly in his grip, his thumbs resting against the palm as he holds it up in between them.]
Flex your fingers for me. Any pain or strain? Gotta be sure I did it right before I let you go back out to face the angry wilds.
