( closed ) lost research
who: Jim Kirk, Leonard McCoy, Peggy Carter, Re-L Mayer, Shai Ebbisaryn, Sans, Dick Grayson, Scott Lang, Yuuri Katsuki, Victor Nikiforov
what: a rescue mission
when: from May 15th through to the end of the month
where: abandoned area, along the river, the delta and the waterfalls; between the first and second walls
warnings: monster attacks, probably some injuries/blood, don't expect anything more than that; add any needed warnings on your own threads as needed, please!
Despite the risks, most of the journey was a fairly quiet one. A lot of hours walking, making their way along the riverside, trekking through the woods and across small clearings. When the sun set they'd set up camp somewhere, and as soon as it rose they got back to their feet and out towards the Delta underneath the waterfalls.
Jim made sure they had all they needed; maps, compasses, whatever devices that could help them navigate the terrain. As far as supplies went, they had plenty of covers and extra clothes to make sure they didn't suffer through the colder nights, but there were no luxuries out here. If it rained, they'd be mostly unprotected, and they could only shower and wash their clothes so long as they had the time and access to the stream of the river. There was plenty of food, hopefully enough to last them the round trip, but they also had a myriad of tools and weaponry needed for any hunting and scavenging so they didn't always have to consume from the food they'd brought along for the trip.
The creatures living out here were another concern, and on a journey this long, they were bound to run into something sooner or later. They should be packing enough weaponry to keep the team safe and everyone in one piece, though.
Hopefully, it would be worth it. Jim didn't even care if they didn't get their hands on any of that research— all he cared about was that there were people possibly lost and in danger out there, and he wanted to try and save them.
[ ooc: this is a mingle log, so everyone feel free to write up your own top levels and/or tag around as much as you like! ]

You're not sorry!
You came close to it doin' some real damage. Not to mention we're too far away from real medical tools, so best take care of yourself while we're out here. [He motions for her to sit and instantly he's unraveling the makeshift bandage and starts to clean the wound thoroughly before starting the regeneration of the muscles and tendons before daring to close up the wound.]
More worried about infection with the climate here. I know from the readings your healing rate is accelerated, but if you start to feel feverish, you better tell me right away.

I didn't do anything. It was that stupid monster that apparently waited until I got close enough in the reeds. [ Some were smarter than others, that much she was completely and utterly assured of at the moment. Some were clearly more like prey animals that tended to run and hide, fight defensively but ran more often than not when faced with humans. Others.. were flat out violent and out for blood.
Such as the cat-like one who'd given her this nice little injury. Of course, she also had long, boney hands so the route to injury was much easier than others probably. She sits as beckoned and presents her hand more easily for his inspection, still freely dripping blood when it becomes too much for the laceration itself to contain. She's remarkably calm considering the whole ordeal, but then again, this is Re-L.
Well, other than a slight hissing noise as he cleans, though that glaring look doesn't last very long. ]
I'll make an effort to tell you. I'm not sure if we'll have time to stop, though, depending on how all of this develops. [ A small pause, then : ]
I'm rather hearty, when it comes down to it.

I'm really relyin' on your body kickin' anything that might've gotten in. But thanks for tryin' regardless. Last thing we need is some infection goin' systemic. I know I've cleaned the wound itself well enough to know that won't be an issue. [Starting to put his medical supplies away, he catches her hand softly in his grip, his thumbs resting against the palm as he holds it up in between them.]
Flex your fingers for me. Any pain or strain? Gotta be sure I did it right before I let you go back out to face the angry wilds.

Typical predator motives, really. I'm only thinking it was already there because I would have heard it move otherwise I would think.. [ Unless she'd somehow gotten too caught up in her clue hunting to notice reed movement which... could happen, but seemed fairly unlikely even for her.
She nods her understanding as he explains about the infection and her chances - fairly sure that her body could hold it off, but.. new places, new germs, and it was too soon to tell at the moment. ]
I understand. I'll keep a look out either way, just to be sure. I can't afford to be down for a long period of time, either. Too much work to be done for that. [ There's a little smirk on her face as if saying she knows he'll probably give her a look for that one, but she's fine with it. She's got an apartment to provide for and the lot, after all.
Fingers move one by one, testing how far she can move each one and seeing if there's any residual issues. Possibly a little too meticulous in the way she does it, but this is Re-L. ]
Mmn... there's still a slight twinge right along here by my pointer finger but.. it's nothing that would restrict me from continuing on as normal.

Arching a brow slowly at her claim of work, he finally rolls his eyes and shakes his head. Why would he ever believe anyone would have a sane head on their shoulders and try to take it easy? Maybe he was the one with the ridiculous expectations.
Instead he refocuses on the way her fingers move and nods at the dexterity.] A little pain is to be expected. Even healing the flesh will not keep it from hurtin'. Pain receptors are gonna know what happened to it. Just flex them and stretch them out a bit. I'd tell you to take it easy, but I know damn well that you won't.

No, nothing like that - [ There's a small laugh from her anyway, still quiet and reserved even as she does it, amused by the idea of having those kinds of abilities. Her eye sight is good, but n the end it's nothing too terribly unique or fantastic so far as she's concerned, nothing that may be considerer all that unique or super human. ] I meant in the monsters, not myself.
I have good eye sight but... the rest is on a learning curve more than any actual talent at it. [ After all, she'd only been forced to start taking care of herself in that fashion not even a few months ago. She takes a moment to flex her hand again, watching her palm as if waiting for it to split open again for some reason. Mostly, she's amazed by the fact that his tools are able to do such a thing so quickly. ]
Mmn.. you'd said that before, too.. [ When he'd healed a much bigger injury on her arm, of course, but she can't help but to note the similarity. ] About the pain receptors and the fact that I don't know how to take a break.
Either way, there's not really time out here to take a break if we have any hope of finding these scientists while they're still alive, I don't think. It's rugged enough that time is likely of the essence.

[He teases her lightly before pausing at her comment on her senses. He is guessing she had to hone normal senses or possibly just above average in favor of combat. He can tell easily that she is combat ready. Doesn't mean he wants to treat her strictly like some fighter with no other purpose. In fact, the doctor's pretty damn fond of her.]
Did I? [He's careful putting his supplies up. He knows his medkit is the only one like it. If he breaks it or it gets lost, he'll have to take that dramatic step backward when it comes to wounds like this.] Well, I seem to be surrounded by people that don't know when to rest when it's good for 'em.
But you're right. For now we don't have time. But as a doctor, I can't help but tell you my expert opinion. Guess it sounds a bit naggy, but it is my job.
no subject
Of course you did. [ It wouldn't be McCoy if he didn't. Re-L may not have known the doctor very long, but she knew him well enough to know that. ] Ambition is hard to leash, at times. And, well, I suspect Jim nor I know a damn thing about sitting still when it comes down to it.
Tell m your professional opinion all you want. [ A pause, than smirk flickers across her face ever so momentarily again as she test out the mobility in her hand once more. ] Doesn't mean I'll listen, though.

Ambition? [A strange way to see it. He turns over the thought of Jim before shaking his head. Jim is not necessarily ambitious. Not in the self-gain sort of way. The word just doesn't fit him. Though, he is still getting to know Re-L, he can sort of see why she'd use the word.] You're not wrong about that. You both would die of boredom if you were forced to sit in one place.
[Snorting, he rolls his eyes and snaps the last of his supplies closed.] Course you wouldn't. Go on and get. You're cleared. Can't do more than that for now.

Not that I know of. But I was very much directed on what my reading materials were. [ Daedalus and her grandfather may have had opposing view points on what was appropriate reading, but it had always made the learning process very interesting. If something was a 'looked down upon' art, drink, whatever, there's a fair chance the elitist society of Romdeau had told Re-L it wasn't worth her time. Either way, if she has the chance now - ]
I don't really know. If you find one you like, show it to me and I'll see for myself.
[ Ambition is probably the best word she knows for it - she'd been told many times that she was 'too ambitious' too this or too that. Not that it ever did more than make her pause for a few moments, but. It was what it was, at this point. She's not going to make an argument for her wording when Bones is going on to crack on her and Jim again, giving a little shrug as she nods. ]
I've found that out the difficult way, once or twice. Vincent and Pino had to deal with me then, though. [ And, bless Vincent Law, he's incredibly patient. ]
Should I come back in a little while just in case? [ Well, at least she's making an effort, right? ]
no subject
God, proven true no less. I really shouldn't let you and Jim run off alone. That could end dangerously. Just... stay in one piece, will ya?
[He shakes his head at her, only to stop at her last question. A smile smile twitches at the corner of his lips.] That would be good, yeah. Thanks.

I think that will at the very least show me something I've never read before.. [ Even if she ends up thinking it's silly and childish, she's learned something new, so that's a win, right? She'd learned how to read philosophy for fun, anyways, so it might introduce her to something she's never seen before at the very least. And she's try not to make it seem too paltry in front of him, lest he not take her up on these things anymore. ]
Well, I'll attempt the one piece resolution, but I'm making no promises. If I find anything else out in the grass I'm going for it. [ And that was a resolute thing, it seemed. She flexes her hand again, giving it a test before she heads for the door, nodding her agreement. She stops, at least, to confirm : ]
Two days or so? Provided nothing strange starts happening before then, of course.
no subject
Guess tryin' is better than nothin'. [Shaking his head, he huffed a sigh. At least she was 'honest' in sayin' no promises. Jim was the same. He never wanted a promise he'd be fine. Just a promise he'd do all he could to be fine. Semantics meant everything as long as he knew they were honest with him.]
Sounds perfect. Good luck out there.
