[Taken from the June TDM, with some additions:]
Whether you've just arrived in the city or you've been here a while, and you have a sensitivity to the spiritual, magical, multidimensional, or anything else outside the realm of everyday normal, you've probably noticed a distinct uptick in weird feelings, strange nightmares, or daymares - hallucinations of scary things that are lurking just behind you.
You're not the only one who's noticed it.
There are rumors going around that the psychological and spiritual disturbances are due to the emergence or re-emergence of a deity. Some people say that it's something new that's come through the portal with the sharp increase in new arrivals recently, and others say it's simply an ancient spiritual presence or some ancient incorporeal monster that's been somehow awakened. Gramarye, the top-tier magic research center in Riverview Quarantine, has been studying anyone who's felt this presence, and have recently confirmed that whatever it is, it's being fed by all the extra energies and prayers and thoughts as the city's population increases. The one thing everyone agrees on is that, if the expanding community is feeding the entity, then the entity has got to go!
A scouting party recently travelled into the Abandoned City and forests outside the walls to search for leads or any other evidence of a way to solve the problem. After a day of searching, the team stumbled upon an abandoned temple. While it didn't seem like much, its exterior run-down and wood rotting amongst the centuries' old mulch and muck, it felt... unsettling. Alive, almost. One member of the party could feel a powerful presence emanating from it; realizing they were out of their depth, the team returned to the Quarantine to relay the information and obtain reinforcements.
Teams are now being assembled across the city to travel into the Abandoned City or the forests outside the walls and find this temple once more. The mission might be dangerous, though - there are the usual dangers of venturing out into the wilds, but this time, characters may also face booby traps, spectral or physical guardians, and if the entity itself gets awoken? Someone may have to kill it.
[So this log will be set up in 'stages'. The first few headers will be closed to each of the teams for initial travel meetings, camping, monster fights, etc. Feel free to post your own top-levels underneath and tag out, mingle, whatever you'd like. Headers for further 'stages' of the mission (such as once all the teams meet up at the temple/deity hideout) will also be posted so that teams can intermingle/have more CR.
Since there are so many people involved, consider this one big mingle thread in the vein of the TDMs. Here's a link to the google doc for those interested as well.]

"So wait, let me get this straight. You have robot lions? Robot lions that combine into something else?"
no subject
"Yeah. It was pretty crazy when we first found them." He shrugged. "They're actually really cool. Each lion transforms just enough so that one of them becomes the head and torso, two become the arms, and two become the legs. They combine together like that to make Voltron, the strongest known weapon in our universe." After a beat, he added, "Oh, and Voltron looks like a person, not a lion."
no subject
That just sounded really weird, but then again a Gundam probably sounded weird to other people.
"The strongest weapon in the universe... impressive. Which one do you pilot?"
no subject
"Not many people have, even in our own universe."
Keith was probably one of the few people that, at this point, a Gundam did not sound weird to.
"I'm the pilot of the Red Lion," he said. "Red is Voltron's right arm."
no subject
Robots were not strange for Lyle, but robots in the form of animals were. Robot animals that transformed? Even more so.
Lyle couldn't help but chuckle. "I guess you're the right hand man then."
He's trying to make a joke here.
"So... going to guess the tall guy with similar armor? He's also one of the pilots?"
He'd seen him before they had split up and the matching armor had stood out.
no subject
"I guess so."
He nodded. "That's Shiro. He pilots the Black Lion, which makes up the torso and head. That makes him the team leader."
no subject
Like most adults who aren't actually funny, Lyle's very good at bad jokes. Unfortunately Voltron kind of lends itself to that sort of joke.
And here's another one.
"So then he is the brains of the operation."
Because he pilots the head...
no subject
"I guess he is..."
Excuse the slight eyeroll. He smirked.
no subject
"That's good though, that you have someone else here from home. It's not fun being alone. Wonder though why they put you on two different teams? Fighting styles too similar or something like that?"
no subject
no subject
Lyle was not a close range fighter. He could probably survive a fist fight, but his specialty was guns, which Keith had already learned by this point.
"I don't think there is really going to be anything to worry about."
Since Keith had said he hadn't wanted to be split up from Shiro.
no subject
Keith furrowed his brow a little bit, but then nodded. Lyle was probably right.
"Yeah, probably not."
He left it at that for now, not really ready to go into with Lyle just how close he'd come to losing Shiro once already.
no subject
Unsure about that. They were clearly machines so maybe he was wrong.
And Lyle wasn't going to try and poke holes in what Keith had said, taking it for face value. He had every right to be concerned for his teammate.

no subject
"You said elements. Is each lion based on an element?"
no subject
And the elements. He nodded to that, too.
"Something like that. Red's specialty is fire. The laser canon in the mouth can switch over to a lava canon. Blue can do the same, and the larger weapon on her back can be used as a sonic weapon or scanner, as it uses sound waves. The Green lion has a specialized laser that causes vines to grow. Yellow is the heaviest on armor, and can crash through rock like it's nothing. The Black Lion can actually pass through solid objects, like teleporting or phasing." Keith looked a little thoughtful for a moment.
"I'm pretty sure there's more to each Lion, too, that we haven't found everything, yet. They're pretty mysterious."
no subject
He thought about that for a moment, going back to what Keith had said earlier.
"What sort of weaponry do the lions give to Voltron?"
no subject
"Well, we're not sure if its the bayards or the Lions or what, really," he admitted. "Each of the Lions has a port that we can plug that bayard I showed you into. That's what triggers the weapon. So far, it seems to generate something similar to what the bayard generates for the Paladin outside of Voltron. It kind of makes me think it's tied more to the Paladin than the bayard or the Lion." He wasn't sure if that made any sense, but... well... it was the best he could do. Voltron was a pretty mystical thing, it seemed.
"Like, when I plug in my bayard, it makes a sword for Voltron. When Hunk plugs his in, it makes a large shoulder cannon, which kind of goes along with the fact that his bayard turns into a heavy personal cannon he uses in ground fights." Keith frowned. "When we all plug in our bayards together, it enhances the weapon into a stronger version. So far, we've only done it with the sword active, so with four of us, we made the sword bigger. With all five of us, it actually sprouted flames."
Okay, so, in retrospect, that sounded pretty weird, and Keith was fairly sure at this point that Lyle was going to think he was nuts.
no subject
He considered all of that information for a long moment before he spoke though.
"I think I'm going to need score card or something to keep track of all of this."
no subject
"Trust me, every time something happens, it still surprises us," he said. "But, I think we're just getting used to it now. Weird is just standard for us ever since we bonded with those Lions."
no subject
I guess if I was around robot lions all the time, this would make sense."
no subject
little did he know...no subject
Then again the giant space flower in our world was pretty crazy too."
no subject
"Giant... space flower...?"
Okay, so... something finally managed to push Keith's ever expanding definition of "weird".
