[closed - deity mission scouting party]
who: Edward Elric, Jason Todd, Yuffie Kisaragi, Nico di Angelo, Morgana, Link
what: Scouting out the deity to formulate a plan of attack or negotiation
when: Monday, 7/24 - after the masq and some time for recovery
where: Exploring the abandoned city
warnings: None that I can think of (applicable warnings should be added to tags.)
Edward had gathered what information he could about anything resembling gods in this place. There wasn't too much available, and he suspected it was because any temples out in the abandoned part of the city were probably worshipped by those who lived there. Before. Which meant a great deal of the information about them was also probably in the abandoned buildings out there, churches, temples, libraries.
It might not be any help locating this thing, or trying to figure out any information about it. He wasn't sure they'd be able to understand what it wants with all these visions and dreams, and there was no way to know if it was even part of this world - or pulled in through the portal, just like everyone else. For him this was more about finding information, trying to understand what he was dealing with, because he's dealt with this enough times at this point to know they weren't always unreasonable, even if they were powerful enough to do things no one else would agree to.
He's sitting in communal seating of the sixth floor with a book in his lap, trying to squeeze out any last bit of information he might be able to find before embarking on this mission as he waits for the others to arrive at their scheduled meeting time.

[Open Top Level - Group Action]
Stressing that this is just for information gathering and trying to figure out a tactic for the future rather than outright attacking as soon as they find what they're looking for. He has a picture that he printed out from the library which matches the description of the temple Chloe had seen, so there's at least one temple out there that could be where they're supposed to go. He has no idea if the deity's location is tied into the temple or not, since he hadn't found any information on that and it certainly didn't work that way in Purg.
Once they see what they're dealing with they can better make a plan of action and come back after they've rested.
Having gone over everything again, and ready to move out Ed regards the group as a whole. "That said, before we leave, any questions?"
[ooc: This is an open mingle post, feel free to tag each other, tag around, threadjack (with permission) etc. within this top level. If you want Ed somewhere for one-on-one discussion ping me on plurk!]

While Ed spoke, Jason double checked over his stuffed bag. Helmet check, Redhood suit on with the leather jacket zipped up to hide the bat-symbol. His guns in their holsters at his side, a few dozen rounds of ammo and pre-loaded clips to switch out. Double checking to make sure his blades were in his boots he made his blades were in place before he made his way out to stand near Ed, the messenger bag rested on his side, as he shut off his phone shoving it into the bag along with a few other things hidden in the front pocket.
He looked a like he was both ready to go to war and maybe Starbucks with that bag at his side. Either way he crossed his arms standing near Ed waiting. "No question's here. I'm ready when you are."

For someone who looked like she was listening, she wasn't really listening.
Yuffie waved a hand. "Yeah what Jay said. Hey! So if we run into baddies do we have a plan or is it a everyone-attack-and-don't-die sorta thing?" She wanted to know if she needed to focus on keeping the group healed if it came down to it. You know, just in case.
She knew it was a 'scouting' mission but you try telling a monster that and it'll probably try to bite off your face.

"Attacking willy-nilly might not be such a good idea. We should determine who would be better suited for long range versus melee fighting. I know I'm experienced with the latter and can use my aura to keep others from getting too close," he explained as he drew his sword. A wave of shadows seemed to curl around its blade and he smirked.
"Anyone else we need to wait for or can we get this started?"

"I'd have to agree. We should try to stay out of trouble as much as we can, and if we run into the "god" that's causing this at all, we should retreat and regroup. Scouts shouldn't be on the offensive." He puts on a serious face, looking over towards Ed. "I should be able to tell if it's in the temple once we get closer. It's causing all kinds of emotional distortions."

He nodded at Morgana's statement. "I agree. I think it would be best if we took care not to be seen." Link had shown up, not in his normal tunic, but in his Sheikah armor after all. "I'm ready when everyone else is," he chimed in.

He glanced from Nico to Morgana, he'd already made sure to give both of them a copy of the Temple's image in case it might be helpful. "I'm going to be counting on both of you to keep us posted, if it seems like we're near that temple or you feel any sort of threat incoming."
Ed pushed away from the wall he was leaning against, waving a hand, he could tell at least some of them were growing impatient. "If that covers everything, let's go. This trek could be a few days, I'd rather not drag it out."

What was he.
After the others spoke and he had been measuring up Nico with his eyes, because he's still unsure on how that just happened. With Ed's instructions given, he moves to the fridge to pull out a few things to throw in the bag at his side and moved to stand with the other's ready to follow them out.

Cat Sith was obviously that little cat thing, being as pragmatic as possible. Reeve was annoyingly logical even after coming out of the stupid costume. Nico was their resident creeper much like how Vincent's was. Link, who Yuffie was stepping next to in order to see his new outfit, was the weathered loyal fighter like Barrett. Ed was the grumpy hero that kept insisting he wasn't a hero but kept them all together anyway. Finally Jason brought all the badassery and sexy so he was clearly Tifa's thing.
Since there are only six of them no one was going to die.Yuffie was overly optimistic about the trip. "Well, I'll hang back and do long range attacks. Scream if you get hit and I'll cover you." Which was her way of saying she'd get the white materia out and actually be useful.
She kept poking at Link's tunic before flashing him a grin. "Does this mean we're both ninja's now?" Her outfit was definitely better.

No, Nico was more interested in scoping out the rest of the crew. He knew Ed and Yuffie already, but was unfamiliar with the rest. Which meant that he needed to focus on their individual auras in order to ensure he wouldn't confuse them with the diety. Closing his eyes, Nico did just that and picked up one particularly strange aura first. It reminded him closely of Tartarus and realizing that, his eyes flew open and caught Jason's. The man had died at some point in his life... It was a strange thing to note when he looked so alive in that moment, but rather than comment on it, Nico decided it was best to bring it up later. The other two auras were relatively easy to place, normal for the most part, though he could sense magic coming off both.
With that done, Nico settled his hand on the hilt of his sword and nodded.
"If you guys want to bring up the tail, we can work with that a bit easier. It'll be good to have someone watching our backs. I-" He gestured at himself before continuing. "My senses are strong; I can tell for sure from here that it's there. What matters is deciding whether it's benign or malevolent. So far, from here, all I can tell is that it's waking, so I think I should be the lead in order to keep the rest of the team ready for whatever might be coming."
He paused glancing around. Nico was a little uncomfortable to be in such a position, of that of leader in a sense, but clearly Ed had seen what he was capable of and decided to make the most of his skills. It made sense, even if Nico wasn't fond of all the attention.

His grin was wiped away as he gazed at Nico. His little trick where he morphed out of the shadows made Link uncomfortable and even though the Yiga had never seemed to have that ability, it still reminded him of them. He trusted Ed enough to think that he wouldn't let someone to come along that he himself didn't trust, but Link made a mental note to keep an eye on this guy. At least, to the best of his ability.
Link merely nodded when asked to help bring up the rear. He was fine with that for now. As it seemed that everything was set, Link stepped towards the door.

He motioned for Nico to lead the way, partly because he was going to need to, considering he was the one able to track this thing down. Partly also so that he could position himself between Nico and anyone else that might be a problem. Yuffie seemed indifferent to his presence but the others had shown reactions, and Ed was aware of it. He'd made a point of being aware of anyone's reaction to the various things Nico could do to trip them up.
He cast Link a look as they left the building, aware of his wariness even if it wasn't practically radiating off of him like Jason's. "We're following his lead on this, he's the only one that can even do what we're attempting here." The fact that Ed trusted him went unsaid, but he was familiar with what Nico was capable of and the others weren't. He wasn't gaining anything by joining this scouting party if he didn't want to help, so there wasn't really any sense in doubting him even if Ed wasn't aware of how he was outside of something this serious.
"If anyone has a problem with that, they can take it up with me." The same as they could during the follow up, when they come back to actually do something after identifying the threat.

Then Edward spoke and he rolled his eyes before nodding. "Got it, oh fearless leader." He spoke in an almost mocking tone. His mood wasn't soured it was just him being moody. He didn't like the explainable. And how did one explain that. He was ready to follow them out and into the wild.

Yuffie rolled her shoulders before leaning over and swiping one of Jason's drinks. She then ducked out of his reach and popped up next to Nico with a grin. "Let's go~!" Her smiled was wide while her eyes flicked between Link, Ed and Jay, only to be turned back to Nico to talk into his ear.
"Hey, if you're leading us which way do we go? North, South, West?" Pointing worked.

Once they had all filed out of the housing, Nico wasted no time. Figuring Ed would've picked people who could keep up, he started heading north as he'd directed, cautious all the while. Eventually, living arrangements gave way to the forest as the sun began to set and Nico could feel the aura of the god getting stronger. It was heavy, and it made him wonder what it would be like if the god was fully awake.
"It's getting stronger," he said as ruins of a temple came into view. "Get ready for anything."

Although he hadn't exactly picked the volunteers he was confident in their ability to keep up - or catch up, if it came to that - considering he knew them all. When Nico said that it was getting stronger Ed cast a glance around at everyone, so far the trek had been mostly uneventful - uneventful was good in these situations, but he wasn't holding his breath on that lasting.
"Maybe we should set up camp so we're well rested for whatever we're facing when we get there. We've already been traveling most of the day, probably best not to go after thing at night, even if nothing does attack is in the meantime." He glanced around between them as if waiting for opinions on that thought, "If we find a good spot we'll know where to set up camp once we're ready to come back and really get down to business."

Which said a lot for him, he usually got chatty while when he was bored, or working, but this time he was busy paying attention to the land around them, his guns at his side and he was prepared to grab them if any trouble presented itself.
When Nico spoke up, Jay felt the hairs on the back of his neck rise, he couldn't pin point things but he could feel when things weren't right. A side effect of the Lazurus dip. He looked around before his attention returned to Edward. "Sounds like a plan." He replied. "It's pretty flat here, it would be good here." He offered his thoughts as he stopped moving, to survey the area.

It was easy to keep up with everyone and she was honestly used to taking longer days when with Cloud or working with Reeve. Or running into Vincent in the middle of the night to save his stupid butt.
