[ For Dorian, it's still new to be "invited" to social engagements and whatnot. It feels like a new frontier, dipping his toes into an area that he has no experience or anything to fall back on. Dressed in a simple gray t-shirt, black jacket and slacks, he beams as he spots Jim nearby. ]

Hello. Were you waiting long?

[ Jim can imagine, but to him it would just be too weird to treat Dorian like a simple machine. He looks, moves, acts and talks just like a human, which is admittedly part of what makes him so fascinating, but also it means he is a sentient being, regardless of what he might be made of. So, Jim treats him just like he'd treat anyone else. ]

Not at all, I just wrapped up my shift. [ He gestures towards the Perimeter Guard behind him, then excitedly offers a hand to Dorian. ] Jim, by the way. Obviously. Nice to meet you.

[ Dorian shakes it warmly, not too rushed. ]

Dorian. And it's nice to meet you too. This is my first social engagement, so to speak.

Really? [ Jim raises is eyebrows, a little surprised. ] You mean in the Quarantine, right?

[ He must've had a friend or two back home, people he hung out and spent time with. ]

[ Dorian smiles. ]

No, man. For real. I don't usually go out unless it's for a case.

[ Jim has to fight the urge to grin wide. He said man. That's... so weirdly cute. ]

Well then, we gotta make it something special, right? Can't have you telling people my entertainment skills are subpar. [ He pats Dorian lightly on the shoulder, for now starting them down the street. ] I mean, way to put pressure on a guy. Luckily I can handle it.

Don't worry. It's not a high bar.

[ Dinner with Kennex is the bar. And it's low. ]

Do you have something planned?

Well, still. Doesn't mean I'm gonna settle with sitting on a park bench feeding bread crumbs to birds.

[ Jim has standards. And he always aims high. ]

Not really. I didn't have time to think it through much, honestly. Anyway, I figured I'd ask you what you enjoyed doing and we could both think of something.

I mean. I'd like that too.

[ It sounds like fun! But almost everything does. ]

I don't really have a list. Everything's kind of . . . fresh, in a way. I know how it works and what it means, but I've never done any of . . . anything.

You would.

[ Jim chuckles at that, genuinely endeared. He'll keep that in mind, definitely. ]

'Everything' is pretty broad. You're not making this easy on me, you know? [ But okay, thinking... ] There are the movies. But— we can't really talk a lot while watching, so. We can go to a bar? I mean, I figure you can't drink anything, but there are some comfortable places around where we can sit and chat. Or a karaoke bar. Can you sing? [ He shrugs. ] Or we can just walk around aimlessly all afternoon. I wouldn't mind that, either. I could just show you around some.

[ It's really hard to resist the urge to want to show Dorian everything right this instant!!! Please excuse his excitement. ]

Movie watching might be a bit redundant in my case.

[ Since he can simply tap into the network and watch anything he wants. Information is easily absorbed into his databanks. He's not sure if the experience would yield anything. Singing though . . . Dorian brightens. ]

I can sing. I enjoy singing, though it riles my partner up. But I'm also fine with chatting, though you won't get much out of me in a bar.

Why's that? [ Just give him a moment, it hadn't even crossed his mind that Dorian could actually "watch" them a different way. ] Ah, right. Yeah, well... different perspective. Anyway.

[ Okay so no movies. They can just pick something else, no problem. ]

Sounds like a fun guy. [ It's more of a playful tease than anything, and Jim chuckles a bit. ] Don't like bars much?

[ Dorian frowns, his expression scrunching up. ]

I just don't see the appeal.

I guess it can be boring, if you don't drink or anything. [ He nods. ] There are some live music bars, though. Those are pretty nice if you like music. But we can just go for a walk, talk for a while, see what strikes our fancy.

[ Shrugging, he adds with a lopsided smile. ] If all else fails, we can go feed some birds?

John just gets himself thrown out of bars.

[ Because John is terrible. ]

But we can try it.

I promise you, I don't get thrown out of bars. [ A pause. ] Anymore. John's your partner, right?

[ Jim nods, happy to go along with whatever. He just wants a chance to talk to Dorian anyway, and get to know him better. The setting really isn't that important. ]

There are a lot of street stands and nice places to go sightseeing here, anyway. The Quarantine is small but pretty and welcoming. Plus, there's always nature and the abandoned city beyond the wall, if you ever get restless like me.

He is. I usually go wherever he goes. Which leaves the locations we visit much to be desired.

[ Restless? Dorian doesn't know. He's never been restless. Right now Dorian feels a little pumped, a little lost. A lot of everything that he's never had to deal with before. ]

I guess I might try the parks. Other places.

[ He chuckles. ] Alright, well... just gotta figure out what places you like, instead.

[ That is kind of what restlessness feels like, in a way. Dorian will likely notice it even more as time goes on and he starts to miss the excitement of his daily life. ]

Let's head to the park, then. Go from there. You can tell me a little about your world.

[ Dorian nods, watching Jim. ]

All right. But I don't think there's a lot to say.

There's always a lot to say about other universes. [ Just because it all seems commonplace to someone used to it, it can be extraordinary to someone who's never seen it. Dorian comes from there, after all, and Jim finds him both extraordinary and fascinating, so. ]

What's it like, where you live? Are androids common there, or are you completely unique? I mean— I still think you're unique either way. You know what I mean.

[ He blinks before smiling, a slow movement. ]

Androids or synthetics are mostly common with the police force. Though there are a few other areas in government that uses them, such as hospitals. Most of them don't come equipped with a synthetic soul.

[ Most being almost all. Meeting that one other android like Dorian had been a surprise — both pleasant and unpleasant. ]

Ah. So you are one of a kind. [ Well, he would be either way. Even if there are others with synthetic souls, Jim guesses they each develop their own personalities. Much like everyone else, in a way. ]

I mean, you strike me as very unique. That's nice. [ He gestures towards Dorian. ] Would you say it's difficult, bonding with humans? I'm guessing you like your partner. Do you have other friends, too?

Bonding is what I was built for.

[ Dorian has used lethal force as well — he's a cop and a robot programmed to do so in tense situations — but ultimately he knows he is there to connect, not just be a shield. ]

But no, I don't have friends of any kind.

That's a shame.

[ And a waste, frankly, if bonding really was what he was built for. ]

Can I count? As a friend, I mean.

[ Dorian blinks, his brow furrowing. He's not sure how it is a waste, but he doesn't push it. ]
