[It had been a while since Lyle had been on a date too. Officially it had been before Celestial Being. Granted he had been with Anew, but he hadn't dated her, not really. Being stuck with Celestial Being had prevented that. Even so, he wasn't too nervous. Whether it was an actual date or not, it was a chance to spend time with a friend and get some coffee. That's all that had been committed to.
Lyle didn’t have to wait too long before Osomatsu emerged. He was observant after all. He watched out of the corner of his eye as Osomatsu came over to him and set the plate with a couple of cookies down on the table in front of him]
Thanks. I’m glad I could too. Didn’t get waylaid or anything like that.
[He gestured to the seat across from him] Why don't you join me.
[that makes Osomatsu feel better. he sits up, leaning forward a bit]
Totally! I work, uh... Pretty hard here. Sometimes, ten hour days, six days a week. And even then, there are days I'll get called in when I'm supposed to be taking time off. It's rough. So sometimes I'd rather just sit at home than go out, if I have the option.
I'm lucky I guess. When we're not busy, that doesn't seem to happen a lot in the Perimeter Guard. We're essentially always on call though and if things get crazy, we have to be there whenever they call us.
[He reached over to pick up one of the cookies and took a bite]
[Lyle kind of figured it was from the cafe considering that's where they were located and it would be a little weird for Osomatsu to bring in an outside cookie]
Well, of course you have people who just wander off, creatures that try to investigate the wall, those sort of things. Nothing insane though.
Well, there's a river and forests. Also the abandoned city. There are also creatures out there. They come through the portal as well. Some of them are fine and friendly. Others are not. We're safe inside the wall though.
[oh, geez. well, Osomatsu was going to have the barista make them drinks, but when Lyle says that, it sets his mind into motion.
he decides to make the drink himself, and he will make something awesome, something off-menu. Osomatsu's already calculating, trying to think of what flavors would go well together. dammit, he'd never thought he'd be so passionate about coffee, and he isn't, really. but he knows more about it than he ever thought possible, all thanks to this stupid job that he kind of hates but kind of doesn't.
he finally grins and stands up] Just a moment then. [then he goes behind the counter. he puts on an apron, washes his hands, and he goes to work]
[When Lyle said that, he could practically see the gears turning. He couldn't help, but what wonder what he was thinking and he leaned forward, curiously watching to see what the answer was going to be.
Finally gets his answer and smiles]
I'll be here.
[But he is going to watch, curious because of the fact that it definitely appeared Osomatsu was going to make his drink for him]
[here he goes. he thinks he's going to do something festive, so he takes a few pumps of this syrup, and some of that syrup, and then he mixes it all together. he makes one for himself first, to taste, then gets to working on Lyle's, with minor adjustments.
yeah, he's a good little worker. who knew? then again, Osomatsu wants to impress his friend, so he's motivated.
he finally is done, removes his apron, then returns to the table and sets the drink in front of Lyle] One Osomatsu special! It's a latte with hazelnut, vanilla, and raspberry.
[Lyle watched eagerly, tilting his head slightly to the side as he watch Osomatsu work. Now he definitely was curious what he was making. It didn't seem to be anything on the menu, but then he didn't have the best vantage point there on the couch.
He smiled as Osomatsu brought it back over, picking up the offered cup]
Sounds good. Smells good too.
[And if Osomatsu had his drink too, Lyle would say...]
[Osomatsu doesn't sit down until Lyle says that he likes the drink. because he was worried he'd have to make another one. he chuckles nervously and finally sits down, drinking from his own cup]
I'm glad! [he's relieved. he just made that up on the spot!]
Sure, you say that... [but... he is nervous. he doesn't know why. they're just hanging out, right? no expectations, no commitments. just two dudes having coffee together]
[Yes, he knew there was that silent implication that this was a date. However, it actually hadn't been officially agreed that this was a date. It was too people getting coffee. Besides, Lyle didn't think it was worth stressing out about. If something didn't work, it didn't work. Easy as that.

I'm glad we could hang out! Usually, on my days off, I just try an' chill, yanno? Get rid of all the stress.
no subject
Yeah I know the feeling. That's what I usually try to do. So good to have someone to hang out with.

Has... anything crazy happened so far?

Well, of course you have people who just wander off, creatures that try to investigate the wall, those sort of things. Nothing insane though.

What's, uh... What's beyond the wall? Have you seen anything weird out there?
no subject
no subject
You think so? Like, aren't there monsters big enough to knock the wall down?
no subject
I haven't seen or heard about any. I'd think we'd be the first to know. So I wouldn't worry.
no subject
Oh, uh. Whaddayou want t'drink? [he looked over at one of the baristas, who was listening in for that cue]
no subject
Surprise me? Whatever you think is good. I'm not picky.
[Lyle's just sneaky like that. But really he's not too picky when it comes to coffee]

Eh?

Kanpai.

I like it.
