( open ) get on board for perimeter guard shenanigans
who: Perimeter Guard members & visitors
what: a catch-all for routine Perimeter Guard stuff and shenanigans
when: throughout September
where: Perimeter Guard, beyond the wall, etc.
warnings: put any warnings in comment headers if need be!
[ This is a mingle log, so everyone feel free to write up your own starters, or just vaguely list out things your character might be up to, so other people know how they'd encounter them and where/how to engage. Some ideas for Perimeter Guard stuff:
• studying maps and working on map expansion;
• compiling wild animal data, reading/writing reports, other boring paperwork stuff;
• checking weaponry and devices, making repairs, etc.;
• going beyond the wall for a bit of surveying and exploration;
• checking out the shuttle currently being repaired (only Poe and Jim would actually be able to take it out for a test flight of any kind, but feel free to poke either of us if you'd like to thread that out!).
Go forth and have fun! ]

Indeed. And you are Jim Kirk. [ She takes his hand for a firm handshake. ] I did not know you worked with the Guard.
no subject
Nor I you. [ Which is a miracle considering how striking she is. But then he does spend most of his time here beyond the wall, so there's that. ] Figured surveyor work was the best suited for my skills and previous experience, and besides I get to learn about missions more easily this way.
What about you? Are you part of any of the special units?
no subject
Search and Rescue. It was what the city's officials deemed appropriate upon my entry.
no subject
And is it? [ Which is his way of asking whether she enjoys it or not. ]
no subject
As fitting as anything else. I am more used to being paid for my services, but fighting beasts and rescuing the lost is along the lines of my experience.

[ He has a feeling that's not how it works for Angela. At least it doesn't seem like it's what she's used to, personally. ]

In my culture, you do the task that is assigned to you, for equitable payment. No more, no less.
no subject
That's so... unusual, to me. I mean, we also do work and we have our duties and tasks assigned to us, but we try to choose a career path that we enjoy, something we have fun doing, that makes us feel accomplished and fulfilled.

[ There aren't many artists or musicians in Heven. ]

[ An observation, not a criticism by any means. He finds the differences in her world fascinating, actually. It's always interesting to see how different places and different cultures work, strange though they may seem to him. ]
How do you feel about this place, so far? Sounds like it's vastly different from what you're used to.

[ Thinking of Earth only reminds her that Sera is there waiting for her, which is a bittersweet memory. ]

Really? Well, look at that. [ He huffs a chuckle, adding in a playful tone. ] So you're an Angel. That's... very fitting.

[ That much has been made very clear to Angela, and so she must stress it to others. ]
I was born to the king and queen of Asgard, and stolen from them as an infant. I was raised among the Angels, but I was never one of them.

I'm sorry to hear. [ Even if he's not sure if she is. Would she rather have grown up among her own people, or is she grateful for what the Angels taught her? He can't tell. Angela thinks too differently from him, it's difficult to imagine what goes through her mind sometimes. ]
Did you ever go back? To Asgard. [ And did her parents even look for her? The curiosity is strong, but he doesn't ask out loud. ]
no subject
[ Though now she is exiled from Asgard and Heven both. It's a long story, but really, she's happier this way. ]
no subject
[ Or maybe it's just that Angela doesn't like talking much, he's starting to realize. ]
It's not all it's chalked up to be, I think. Going back to the place where you come from.

I have heard a saying, "Home is where the heart is." I find that to be as true as anything.
no subject
That we both agree on. [ He smiles. ] Even if sometimes it might take a while to find that home.
