Perimeter Guard - Open

Yuffie liked working for the Perimeter Guard. It gave her time to train and to explore beyond the wall that protected the city from the forest around it. She found it interesting how similar it was to Gaia while also being a stark contrast to the planet that she calls home. There were similar creatures and tasks but it all felt different.

She was still deciding if she liked this difference.

Yuffie was dressed in her usual ninja gear with a silver arm guard trailing down the length of her left arm. Her usual smile on her face as she slipped up next to Keith. "Hiya!" She was also in Search & Rescue as well as the Surveyors. She had a talent when it came to going to places that she didn't belong.

"Oh... uh, hi." Keith scrunched his eyebrows a little, and nodded in response. "I guess we're going out on this patrol together, huh?" He was in his Paladin armor, and was only carrying one visible weapon... a large dagger that was in a sheath clipped to the back of his belt. "You're my partner, then?" She seemed pretty upbeat, so he'd just go along with that, especially considering what had happened between them at the Masq.

"Looks like it." Yuffie held grudges but she was cool with Keith. He hadn't actually thrown her and she had still managed to take his mask off first. She will count that as a win. The way her mind worked sometimes didn't make a lot of sense.

She stretched her arms over head, elongating her spine. "Just don't throw me. You now, unless I ask. We got the North section right or some such nonsense in that direction?" She looked up at him with her usual bright purple gaze. This was the kind of thing she loved doing. "You think you can move quickly in all that stuff?"

It looked like she might out run him.

[tempredmental]

Keith creased his eyebrows dubiously.

"I... yeah. Sorry about that." He looked down. In a much calmer mindset now than at the party, he was able to figure out that he had definitely overreacted. He was still a little bothered that he had reacted that way at all. He should have been able to control it better. "I don't really know what came over me. I just... reacted."

He nodded. "Yeah... North. And I'll be fine." Altean armor was surprisingly light weight and easy to move in. He would be okay. "I'm used to wearing this now." He was pretty fast in it, too. Just try him.

Yuffie put her arms behind her head as she turned to look at him.

"Mmhmm?" She hummed softly, looking up at Keith as if she didn't know what he was talking about. "So you don't normally throw girls? probably a good move if you ever wany a girl friend. She winked. "It's in the past. Let's focus on the mission."

Nope, she didn't believe that he could keep up with her. Granted, she was an amazing awesome ninja and she had magic to help her.

Keith's eyebrow quirked up. He hadn't even considered girlfriends, to be quite honest. But, no... he didn't normally just throw people like that. He sighed as they started walking. If he knew she had a magic boost to her speed, then he might feel differently about keeping up, but he was pretty fast on his feet for someone without special powers or magic spells to help him along, so he was confident enough in his running, even with the armor on. It wasn't like it was heavy or anything, and he wore it often enough that it was practically normal now.

However, he wasn't much of a talker, and was perfectly find to keep walking in silence towards their sector. She'd probably have to keep up the conversation if she wanted to chat.

"Okay, silence is boring." She declared shortly after they had lapsed into silence. Yuffie never liked the quite. That was always when her mind wandered to bad places.

"Is your favorite color red? Why do you wear so much armor? If you got a pet what pet would it be?"

[tempredmental]

Silence was perfectly fine by him, but... okay, then.

He considered her questions. What... those were three different topics!

"I uh... Well, okay," he managed. "I guess so? I never really thought about it before. The armor is basically my uniform for Voltron. And, I have no idea. Pets are weird."

Yuffie didn't trust the random twists and turns that existed inside her own head. Silence reminded her of the home that she was separated from and the pain of her last parting. It always seemed to be like that… No matter what Yuffie did, it was the wrong thing according to her father and if something went wrong, it was her fault.

Why bother being honest if people always thought you were lying?

Yuffie puffed a soft breath of air before focusing on Keith. "Pets are weird and usually a lot of work." She agreed with a shrug. "That's your armor? That's kinda intense don't you think? Not that I'm complaining. I'll let you go in first and back you up. I got speed and spells. I can also heal." It was important for him to know for their working relationship.

[tempredmental]

"I guess... it works. We got up against some pretty intense enemies, and it also doubles as a spacesuit." He listened to her rattle off her skills. Another magic user, huh? That was okay. He was getting used to it. "Alright. What kinds of spells?"

"Basic healing. Maxed levels so I can help heal broken bones. Poison... not so much." She rolled her shoulders in a shrug. "Then I have ice and time magic." Yuffie turned her arm as they walked looking at the glowing orbs that was set in the metal armor piece. "I have a summon but it haven't gotten it to work." So she didn't know what it was.

"You have something that you can't get to work?"

Keith didn't know what a 'summon' was, but it sounded like it called something, and he was kind of a little worried about it not working. If it suddenly worked, but not the way she thought it should, that could be bad, right?

[thegreatninja]

"Yeah. I don't know if it's because Leviathan is on Gaia and not here that it isn't working. I never stopped to ask myself how the summon Materia worked. So now that it's not…" Her head tilted to the side as the thought trailed off. "I was going to ask people about it but testing and creating Materia almost destroyed Gaia."

Yuffie was also selfish and liked the idea of being one of two people to have Materia, it did make her wonder if they'd find Materia here, in its raw state.

She rolled her shoulders in a shrug that suggested that she wasn't the least bit concerned about it. "I'll figure it out. Until then I got you covered with my other Materia, plus mad skillz." She looked over at Keith with her usual cocky grin. "So don't worry your cute little head."

[tempredmental]

Keith quirked an eyebrow, looking somewhat insulted.

"I was more worried about you using a summon and not knowing what it did than anything else," he said. "I can handle myself in a fight." He did almost throw you, Yuffie. He could do it to someone else just as easily.

[thegreatninja]

"Why would it worry you? Leviathan is awesome."

She put her arms behind her head as she walked, her eye flicking between Keith and the path in front of them. Yes, he did almost throw her but that had been at a party with Yuffie wearing a dress. She wasn't planning to give him the chance to do that again.

"What sort of fighting do you do?"

[tempredmental]

"Mm... if you say so."

Keith wasn't really up for the discussion about his worries, so he was glad when she moved on.

"Hand-to-hand... and I have a sword." Well, technically two. He tended to stash both his blades on him lately. It came in handy to have both. He might not be a full-on ninja warrior, but he was definitely a fighter.

"Neat. You are like a hero-type, aren't you?"

It made her miss Cloud and for the first time Yuffie looked unsure. Her smile fell and she wondered if she could really live here, without Wutai and without her friends. She wasn't very good at making friends.

As if snapping out of her thoughts the smile returned easily to her lips. "Well, so far this trip is boring. So it looks like you get to keep your swords to yourself."

[tempredmental]

"Type?" Keith frowned a bit. But her comment about it being boring bothered him. It was a bit quieter than the trip to the temple.

"We shouldn't let our guard down just because you're bored," he grumbled.

"Who said my guard was down?" Yuffie teased with her usual bright grin pulling at her lips. "I mean, you are super cute and it's very distracting but I won't let anything happen to my favorite partner." She winked at Keith as she turned and began walking backwards.

He might not believe that she's paying attention but she is. Yuffie takes her work very seriously, she just wants to have fun while doing it.

What was it with girls calling him cute around here?

Granted, he had gotten attention like that before because he'd been the top pilot in the fighter class, but it was weird coming into a situation where there wasn't a specific draw like that. It made him a little confused and definitely wary. Things happened. It could lead to trouble.

"Your favorite partner?" He quirked an eyebrow at her. "Since when?"

If he didn't want to be called cute then he should stop being cute.

"Since about five minutes ago." Her opinion had the tendency to change quickly but she had a good feeling about Keith and she liked being around him. Even! When he's trying to throw her across a room.

Yuffie's steps are light though as they make their way along the perimeter she notices a flash of movement out of the corner of her eye. Her body language doesn't change as she turned back to Keith. "Did you see that?" She asked in a lower, more serious, tone.

[tempredmental]

Keith gave her a tolerant look, like, 'okay sure whatever'. However, the movement caught his attention, too. His hand moved to hover near his thigh, just above two cyan colored lights at the top of the upper leg armor, but he didn't do much beyond that.

"Yeah..."

Yuffie's wrist flicked and a long blade appeared in her palm. She was watching the underbrush only to notice that whatever they had seen had moved. They only had a seconds warning before a worm like creature with claws jumped from the right side towards Keith.

"Look out!" She called as she threw her blade. The blade circled around Keith, striking the creature and then returning to Yuffie's palm though the creature, now bleeding, continued his forward assault.

[tempredmental]

At the same time Yuffie threw her blade, Keith called his bayard, which caused those two cyan colored lights just below his hip to blink in sequence. The semi-circle handle of his weapon appeared in his hand with a flash of light, and he shifted it into a sword as he dropped and rolled back, out of the way of both Yuffie's own blade and the creature's lunge. He was back on his feet quickly, though, swinging his bayard to finish the job Yuffie started.

Yuffie wasn't going to hit him if he had stayed still though she was thankful that he didn't misjudge and roll towards her spinning weapon of doom.

"Got him!" She declared before turning to put her back to Keith. "Let's make sure he's the only one out there." Yuffie was used to monsters roaming in groups. Only the powerful ones were on their own and this one didn't seem that powerful.
