monthly mingle: RIVER FESTIVAL
what: monthly mingle: the river festival
when: the month of august
where: anywhere around the city
warnings: please put any necessary warnings in the subject lines

In the days leading up to August 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: The River Festival. This holiday is in celebration of the river and the life that it gives to the city, as well as the heat of summer and forming bonds with friends, family, and romantic partners. The celebrations are marked by a community-wide cleanup of the docks and beaches along the river - particularly important considering the recent flooding that's left the banks of the river littered with debris - as well as beachfront cookouts and parties (both private and city sponsored) and beach sports tournaments happening on either open stretches of beach or in special clothing-optional beaches, all capped off with fireworks displays each weekend in August.

Following the hedonism of Carnivale, it's time for something a little more low-key and relaxing. The River Festival happens every year in August, and is geared toward community building through cleaning up the beaches and docks along the river and then using all that freshly cleaned beach to gather on. During the month of August, there are various lightly-themed government-sponsored beach cookouts and parties geared toward family, romantic dates, or casual all-ages get-togethers for meeting new friends; there are also a few more racy parties at clothing-optional beaches around the city. Many private residents also take this time to gather together friends and family, and have cookouts on the beach with all the typical trappings of the beach barbecue. There are also various casual sports tournaments sponsored by community centers, gyms, and sports teams in the city, featuring prizes ranging from notoriety to sports equipment to big bucks. Every weekend, there are beautiful fireworks displays and free concerts. This year, the River Festival has been chosen for the unveiling of a new water park in the City, with free or heavily discounted tickets during August!
i. cleaning up
The holiday starts off on a note that is just a bit more sombre than the rest of the season, with the cleanup efforts following the recent flooding blending into the usual tradition of cleaning up beaches and docks along the river. The cleanup is a group effort, with every citizen who is physically able pitching in to comb the beaches, where they pick up fallen tree limbs, garbage, and anything else that's accumulated during the winter and spring, and then raking the beaches to make them clean and ready to use. The cleanup of the docks is similar, with residents sweeping and hosing them down where necessary. This year, there are a lot of repairs to be made to beachfront structures that might've been damaged by flooding and the traffic along the riverbanks from the heroes that participated in the rescue of cult hostages, so if anyone has some carpentry or building skills, those would definitely come in handy.
This is meant to be a community building effort, so many businesses in the area, more well-to-do private citizens, and the government have pitched in funding to provide lunches, cold drinks, coffee or tea, and snacks to anyone who's helping out with the cleanup efforts. All in all, the cleanup has a very friendly, welcoming vibe.
ii. beach activities
The main traditions of the River Festival involve cookouts and beach parties. Each weekend in August, the government as well as various corporations and businesses in the city, will be providing funds for large beach gatherings. On these days, there will be booths set up offering wares and freebies from various businesses around the city that have helped fund the party, large swaths of cleared beach where residents can don a swimsuit and catch some rays or swim in the river, massive barbecue setups to provide partygoers with all the standard barbecue fare, beach sports tournaments, dancing and musical performances, and fireworks displays (see prompts below).
The holiday isn't just about these big parties, though - many residents arrange their own barbecues, cookouts, beach camping trips, beach bonfires, and other riverside gatherings and outings. Many riverfront businesses offer discounts on services such as canoe or kayak rentals to go out paddling on the river, jetski or motorboat rentals for tubing, wakeboarding, or waterskiing, or mounts to take romantic rides in the surf. Additionally, there is an adults-only section of the beach where any of these activities can be done in the nude in a clothing-optional setting, including the big city-sponsored parties.
If your character is good at playing a particular sport that could, conceivably, be played on a beach, chances are that during the month of August, a tournament will be set up for them to participate in. The tournaments are pretty standard, generally sponsored by community centers, sports clubs and teams, gyms, and other organizations and businesses in the city, with various levels of specialization, and levels of skill or competitiveness. The prizes also vary, with everything from plain old bragging rights to sports equipment or passes to gyms and community centers, to large lump sums of cash money. Definitely worth it, for characters with a love for sport. Oh, and a lot of these tournaments are happening on the adults-only clothing-optional beaches, for those grown-up sports fans who like a bit of an extra challenge.
iii. fireworks and music
Each weekend throughout the month of August, there will be evening performances all along the beach. Not as extensive as the musical performances during Carnivale, the performances are geared more toward dancing than true concerts, with areas roped off on both on the regular and adults-only clothing-optional beaches for dancing and mingling (acts will switch off between the two areas so both areas get both performances).
Player-characters who are musical artists, DJs, or otherwise perform are free to set up shop around this party and panhandle or put on free performances for publicity.
After the sun goes down, boats will head out into the water carrying a variety of fireworks, and there will be a beautiful display of exploding color in the sky for residents to watch and enjoy. The fireworks are highly advanced, incorporating old-fashioned gunpowder as well as modern technology that result in really beautiful displays that can take the breath away!
iv. waterpark
This year, there's an extra little bit of fun being thrown into the River Festival - the grand opening of a new waterpark! It's quite the park, set near the river with a scenic view, and featuring all sorts of amazing rides, from waterslides that are catered to all ages and levels of thrill seeking, tube rides that are almost like a rollercoaster on water, a pool where customers can faux-surf, funnel rides, side-by-side racing slides, a lazy river, and almost anything else you can imagine. Besides the rides, there are also a wide variety of swimming pools for kids and adults - wave pools, lap pools, splash pools - and an equally wide variety of hot tubs featuring various minerals (and some aromatherapy) for relaxing, invigoration, and other effects.
Some of the hot tubs are in a clothing-optional adult area, where there are some normal pools and some clearly-labelled pools contain elements that increase arousal or desire, or simply affection to encourage some closer bonding!
v. roommates or wildcard
Feel free to use this prompt to meet new roommates, for the purpose of getting to know each other, or hit up one of the mod-posted prompts for each Communal Floor. Or if you have an idea for a prompt that isn't in this list, set during the River Festival, feel free to write it up!

Stan Uris | OTA
[ Stan doesn’t really hesitate to join in the cleaning effort. It’s kind of his thing. He likes things to be orderly and well put together and so helping to clear out various debris and trash is something that he finds calming. So, you’re likely to come around the serious preteen doing just that...
Or taking a rare break to get a drink and a snack before getting hard back to work.
At least this gives him a way to get out of his head more easily. ]
It can be said without any doubt that going to the waterpark was not Stan’s idea at all. He had been poked and prodded until he agreed. At least he had swimming shorts and it wasn’t like when he and his friends had just undressed and went cliff diving in their underwear’s — though he kind of thinks that might have been more sanitary than a place like this.
How exactly is he supposed to believe the water is clean? He’s squinting at one of the rides, contemplating that question for probably far longer than any one person should.

Simon Reese | OTA
Simon hadn’t been all that keen on the day festivities. He’d ended up with more than enough sunburns to last him a lifetime in July — or just one really bad one to be honest. But there hadn’t actually been anything spoken of that had really drawn his attention. He’d been spending his time being his usual self looking a little too closely after Alex but recently someone had brought a cat around that had decided that Simon was its favorite human. Simon had no idea what to do about that.
Getting away from the house was getting away from the clingy animal that he was secretly getting attached to. He still didn’t know what to do with himself here, he worried about the apocalypse and demons. He was wary of things being taught in the school even by himself. So much of it seemed dangerous and truly unmanaged. But, he’d yet to make any moves about those feelings.
All the same, it all leads to him alone on the beach. He still doesn’t know how to talk to people easily. He reverts back to simple yes and no’s more often than he should — a part of him can imagine Alex’s and maybe strand’s disapproval. But the fireworks are beautiful and for a bit he’s somewhat relaxed if still guarded.

Teddy will have to deal with one specific brush with death as Jyushimatsu blows past him at crazy speed, yelling a stream of "WHEEEEEEEEEEEEE" before gravity takes the job of plunging him into the water. When he emerges he's all laughs and no awareness that he nearly struck his friend, before he takes notice of the other's presence. ]

Relm Hawke | OTA
[Community clean up days. They were advertised all over the city in the final days of the previous month. Relm's never been a fan, but she mostly wonders what they're cleaning, so she shows up to take a look. The river's filled with junk, and much of it has washed ashore. The locals and other portal-delivered line the shore, picking up the debris. It's... nice. One wouldn't really see something like this in Thedas, at least not in the big cities. It's been a long time since she's lived in a place with such a sense of community.
And because she's a softie, Relm, despite her disinclination for such, finds herself chipping in to help. Rah rah, look at her being a part of the community.
But she does find a niche for herself. Some pieces of debris and junk still float in the river, and they're not always easy to grab. As some try to grab at the stuff and fail, resulting in more than a few gripes of frustration, Relm steps in.]
You might want to get back a little.
[It's the only warning before she begins to move her hands in a pattern, magic flitting in between her fingers. In a moment, a gravity well forms nearby. It's not overly large, but it's strong enough to pull in the nearby water and garbage. With the junk in a concentrated area, it makes it easy for anyone helping clean up to grab it and dispose of it.
Sometimes, Hawke is actually a helper.]
ii. volleyball
[Hawke thought it looks fun enough. After watching some teams play for a while, she's certain she's got the hang of it. So when the next game starts, Relm steps in, though with fair warning that she's new to this.
The game commences, and Hawke does the best she can. Setting isn't too hard for her, though she mostly just hits it so it doesn't land on the ground and lets the others get it back over the net. She doesn't always connect, but at least she tries.
When the other team serves the ball, it comes straight at her. This time, Relm decides to try and bump it. Hands clasped and arms held out in front of her, she flings her arms up as the ball connects. The good news is, she does manage to hit it. The bad news is, it doesn't exactly go in the direction she wants. In fact, it goes backwards, sailing past her and her teammates. It's on a trajectory to crash into someone.
Like your face. So, uh. Ball incoming?]
iv. waterpark
[There's so. Much. Water.
And rides. All the rides have water. People splash in it. Or float on it. Or swim in it. Or ride on it in weird tubes that don't look entirely safe which means of course she'll have to try it. And that means she gets to break in her brand new bikini.
In fact, she tries most of the rides. The wilder ones, the tamer ones, and all those in between. Some she likes, some not so much, but she doesn't regret trying (even if she was sure she was going to get dumped off of her tube at one or two points). Of course she's thoroughly soaked and her hair doesn't smell great (the joys of chlorine, she'll learn later) but all in all, she's pretty content.
Eventually she winds up by the hot tubs, and even though she's pretty water-ed out, she can't resist their siren call. The one she picks promises to soothe aching muscles, which she definitely has after a long day in the park. With a happy sigh she sinks into the tub. She leans her head back against a kindly provided headrest and closes her eyes. She probably shouldn't do that and risk falling asleep, but Maker if it isn't tempting...]
v. wildcard
[Toss me your own prompt! She can also be found on the second floor of the communal building, where she currently resides!]
ii
As much as it does catch her off-guard to suddenly have the volleyball flying at her, she doesn't shriek, or flinch. Instead, lightning-fast, she drops back a step and pulls her crossed arms up to guard her face, catching the ball against her forearm instead of in the nose, the way it would have if she were an instant slower.
As it bounces off, thankfully not too forcefully, she lowers her arms again, then leans down to pick up the ball before it can go bouncing away again.]
I believe that is out.

dorian | almost human
[ In all honesty?
Dorian loves community work. While he enjoys the thrill of the chase, finding criminals, "beating up bad guys" as John would put it along with applying his own cognitive skills to a strange case and anomaly, this is where Dorian thrives and enjoys the most. The place was a mess and he could see how the devastation was awful, but everyone was helping the other, trying to make a difference, even if it seems meager.
His heart swells at the sight. So he's doing his share or even taking on your share if he sees you're tired and need a break. ]
Why don't you restt? I'll take over.
[ ii. beach activities ]
[ While cookouts were . . . decidedly not for him, Dorian wandered away to watch the sporting events. He even deigned to appear shirtless, wearing a modest black swim trunks as he kicked up sand for fun and even splashed around in the water. However when some salt water goes into his ears, Dorian immediately climbs out, pensive and worried, trying to get it out by tilting his head to the side, blue lines flickering over his face in concern. ]

Steve Rogers (MCU) | OTA
[Steve makes sure to contribute however he can to the clean up efforts. Being both a good causes and a welcome reason to keep busy, he spends a lot of hours out along the beach, picking up trash and seeing to larger clean up issues. Like lifting and moving fallen trees and tree limbs, collecting them in an ever growing pile off to the side. If anything the wood can be used for all those camp and bonfires that are going to be started once the parties begin. But for now he's just collecting it, gracing everyone with a view of his strength in action.]
ii; canoeing
[Whether it's the beautiful weather, or all the excitement livening up the beach, something convinces Steve that it's time to try something new. And that new thing is canoeing. After getting a brief crash course in paddling from the guy renting out the canoes he's--almost--ready to take it out for a spin. The canoe he's rented is big enough to fit at least three people and it seems like such a waste to go out on his own.]
Anyone interested in a canoe ride?
iv.a; water rides
[Steve finds himself drawn to any rides that will give him an adrenaline rush--the biggest and fasted of the tube rides being a favorite--or a dash of competition, like the racing slides provide. He spends a great deal of time switching back and both between the two. He's not above issuing challenges about who can make it down faster either. Or being a part of spontaneous water fights. It's all in good fun after all.]
iv.b; adult pool (affection)
[Speaking of a bit of spontaneity, curiosity finally draws Steve to the adult section of the water park. Surveying the labelled pools he decides to try out the one that seems the most harmless. After Carnivale the nudity around barely gets a second glance, although Steve keeps his swim trunks on. Settling into the water, he tips his head back against the side of the pool and tries to relax, waiting to see what, if anything, would feel different.]

Heahmund | OTA
Heahmund had been working on the clean up for a long time by the time noon had come around and hunger started to make itself be known. He finished the task that he'd been working on before making his way to one of the areas that had food. He made his way to get a simple meal and some water before finding a tree to sit under and eat while watching the activity that is still going around.
[ Fireworks is something that's a new experience for Heahmund. He'd settled a bit of a ways from where crowds had gathered with an alcoholic beverage that's not something he actually recognizes. It has the effect he intends as he watches the skies. He doesn't pay much attention to who might come close, not particularly the most social of creatures.
But, at least he isn't rambling about God at anyone just yet. ]

C. Forgive me, father...
He was out of excuses once he spotted Heahmund. From the look of it they both had finished cleaning up Riverview's trash for the day. Ronan might as well see if he could take care of some more personal garbage in his life.
He'd left Chainsaw at home for the day-- too many shiny things-- and so he was on his own. He took his hands out of his pockets as he walked over to Heahmund.
"You're that bishop."

Alex Reagan | The Black Tapes Podcast | OTA
[Of course Alex was going to help clean up, there was no way that she wasn't going to. After all, she had done it with PNWS loads of times back home, so she didn't mind doing it here. No, she was almost looking forward to it even. Slathered in sunscreen, she was there in both a personal and professional capacity, wandering around with a camera to take pictures of people working. When she saw an interesting shot, she would pause and walk up to the person in question with a grin.]
Mind if I take a photo for the news service?
Beach.
[Of course Alex was going to the beach once they got it all cleaned up. There was no way she wasn't. Wearing a red one piece under a darker sundress, and she is very much trying to be herself and keep up appearances. After all, Ale does the alone party thing fairly often, so this isn't even new. Instead, she's just smiling and holding onto a glass of wine and avoiding all of the adult activities and nude beaches. That said, she easily talks with anyone who approaches her, and laughs softly at jokes and what not.]
Fireworks.
[It's perhaps still something of a secret, but Alex Reagan really like fireworks. The fireworks here in Riverview tend to always be impressive, so she parks herself out on a blanket on the beach, her knees tucked to her chin and just watching them a bit like a kid would. Look, she's a huge fan of fireworks anyway, so when one adds the stuff to them that Riverview does, they tend to take her breath away. Especially when there's chill music in the background.]
Waterpark.
[It's something less of a secret that Alex seriously loves rides. She goes to the amusement park on the regular, and now that there's a waterpark for when it's this hot? You can bet that she's going to be hitting it as often as she can. Tending to be on the more adventurous side, Alex can be found on the crazy water rollercoasters, the slide races and of course most everywhere you'd like her to be. For multiple reasons (including her dragging Stan along) Alex is avoiding the adult only areas though.]
fireworks
Hey there! We talked before, right? It's me!

Padmé Amidala | Star Wars | ota
[It has become a bit of a routine for Padmé, between working at her job, seeking to find out more about this place and in turn more about how one might return, and attending these events that the city seems to hold on a regular basis. To any who know even an inkling about Padmé, it is no surprise that she is volunteering her time to help. She's not too much of a builder or an engineer, but she has no qualms about sweeping, hosing, or picking up anything that shouldn't be at the beach.
She's there several days, helping, dressing in tights and a loose top, hair curled back away from her face in a messy bun. There may or may not be a streak of dirt across her cheeks as she does need to stop now and then to push a wayward strange of hair away from her face.
Of course, some days she is trying to catch a wayward piece of plastic that just seems to be caught in the breeze, having her huffing along after it.]
Stars and moons, you're going in the bag!
[And other times she might be staring at something that she has found with a dubious expression on her face. Said item in question is a tire, and if Padmé catches your eyes, she will give a little shrug of her shoulders.]
I've no idea how this got here, let alone what I am supposed to do with it now.
[After all, her garbage bag clearly can't hold it, although it is also clear that she is working it out in her mind. Perhaps if she rolled it along...?]
[ii]
[There is no denying the appeal of the water, although it does make her nostalgic to days in her youth, swimming all day with her friends, enjoying the waves and the sun. After work and on her days off, after she has helped to clean up, she does make her way to the river, trailing her feet in, or diving in beneath the waves to pop up several feet later.
Her hair might be a little messier thereafter, wet strands coiling in to unruly curls, a sheer cover-up over her dark blue bikini, yet she does manage to look relaxed. There is always a smile and a nod given to anyone whose path that she crosses.]
It's beautiful, isn't it?
[It is one of the things that she has loved about her home planet. The lush temperate nature of it had always called to her, welcoming her, although the river isn't quite the same. She is a bystander at the tournaments, unfamiliar with most of the sports that are happening, and if she finds someone that looks like they don't mind a question, she will inquire.]
Are you familiar with what they are playing?
[iii]
[Padmé has only ever really been a night owl with work, otherwise she has tended to go to bed at a reasonable time. Not one to party all night, that doesn't mean that she doesn't enjoy an evening here and there. It's clear that she'd been swimming earlier, her hair in an improvised up-do as she stands, eyes to the sky, as the fireworks are set out.
There as soft gasps of delight, although a louder one will surprise her, having her jostle the person next to her as she takes a surprised step back.]
Sorry! That was unexpected.
[And yet Padmé can't help but admire the way the colours play in the sky as the fireworks fizzle away.]
[v]
[feel free to run in to her at any of the events, and i'll respond.]
iii
[It's not uncommon for people to be startled by fireworks, especially if they're relatively new to the Quarantine and not used to the pyrotechnics. The fireworks he's used to are more magic than chemistry, but at least he'd seen them plenty of times before showing up here.]
They can be a bit much if you're not expecting them, huh?

Markus | OTA
[It wasn't really something he was told to do. But he did a lot of cleaning in his time as caretaker and could physically lift some of the heavier things, so he set to work. He opted for short sleeves so his clothing wouldn't get caught in anything. Since he didn't grow tired, he could go a lot longer than a human. If there is any painting to be done, he'll be the first to grab a brush]
ii. beach activities
[Markus has never been on a beach before and decides to take a look. He mostly people watches, since he can't really enjoy the barbecues. It's actually the sporting events that get his interest the most. Again, not something he's ever watched before, so he'll indulge in any of those that come up. At some point in his wandering he finds that wet sand is good for sculpting and he starts experimenting on shaping it into things]
iii. fireworks and music
[Markus is still discovering what kinds of music he likes, so he hangs around to listen. He's quick to notice the dancing, though he doesn't participate. And of course watches in aw at the fireworks]

Victor Frankenstein | OTA
[This time around he doesn't play any music himself. He would rather let the more professional musicians do their thing while he enjoys the atmosphere. And of course the dancing. He might even be willing to dance with people who aren't James or Lucy. When it gets to the fireworks, he settles in to watch. He can't see the colors, but he can still appreciate the patterns and the way they're artistically timed]
iv. waterpark
[He enjoyed some of the rides last time, so he'll actually want to experience this park without being dragged into it. He is wearing swimming trunks so he can hop right into the water. He alternates between the hot tubs and the pools, whichever he feels like doing at the time. Mostly hanging out with James and Lucy, but saying hello to anyone he recognizes along the way]

Rogue | Marvel 616 | ota
[She needs to get out of the apartment, as much as she’s loathe to leave the architectural bubble of memories and cats, Rogue knows she has to move forward somehow. She’s done it many times before, so logically she can manage it again, correct? Still, she can’t help but feel bitter and angry about the situation.
So when a call for cleaning up the beaches from the recent floods went up, the mutant dressed in form-fitting slacks, a worn t-shirt, boots and work gloves and got to work. The little pieces of trash go ignored as she focuses on the larger, less manageable pieces of debris, picking them up as though they weigh nothing and flying them off to dispose of them. Some even get angrily launched back into the water, landing quite a bit away with an inaudible plop, and others large, flat rocks (often boulder sized) are skipped along the surface.
Even though it’s not much of a workout for her, she does stop for tea with a hefty amount of sugar added to it as well as lunch and snacks, if only to separate herself from a group of chatty, happy volunteers. Every time she crosses paths or vicinity with a happy couple, she takes a break in the distinct opposite direction of them.]
ii | tournaments & beach
[In an effort to both distract herself and provide her with another avenue to affix her focus, Rogue checks out the tournaments to see if she can basically hustle others out of money. The thief would have been in the stands, cheering for her no doubt, but she participates without expecting to hear anyone cheering her name in the crowd.
One day when she’s in a particularly dangerous mood, she even takes a gander at the adult only portion of the beaches to see what sort of damage she can facilitate there, wearing nothing but a pair of black, short gloves and a green two piece swimsuit.]
iv | waterpark
[It takes far too much energy to step into the waterpark than she’d ever admit, and she struggles to exist there without radiating her negative emotions. It’s something he would’ve had a literal blast at with her, especially with a power dampener, but she also knows that he wouldn’t want her to hide and sulk from something she’d otherwise find great joy in on her own. She needs to be better than the person she’s being right now.
She’ll try the lazy river, cautiously enough to wear long gloves, but that’s about it on the giving a fuck factor as she wears a snug fitting two piece that’s more sultry than cute. Fake it until you make it, right? She does, at least, stick to lounging around the pools with more flailing bodies, and is that a flask tucked into the hip of her bikini bottom?
Absolutely. There’s a few reasons for those sunglasses it seems.
In an effort to feel less like a walking pile of Debbie Downer, Rogue eventually situates herself in an adult only pool, hoping to whatever magic and science is involved that she can just stop feeling so terrible.]

Zelda | Breath of the Wild | OTA
[Zelda isn't what you'd call physically strong, but what she lacks in strength she makes up for in gadgetry. After a morning of picking litter off the beach she finds herself watching people struggling to remove a pile of metal support beams that had once been part of a beachfront shack. Unclipping the Sheikah Slate from her belt, she decides to pitch in.
Anyone coming across her will find the strange sight of her holding the Slate in both hands, a wavering beam of red light stretching from it onto the nearest beam of metal - which promptly rises from the sand as she pulls upwards. She talks over her shoulder to the onlookers before she continues.]
All right - just make sure not to walk underneath it and you can keep going.
[She proceeds to manoeuvre the beam into the collected pile a few metres away. Amazing what iPads can do these days, huh?]
ii. beach activities
[Swimsuits are ... not really a thing that Hyrule has invented yet. Sure, the people of Lurelin had adapted their own clothing styles suited to their location near the sea, but it was nothing like this. It's a little daunting.
Still, there's something about the idea of relaxing on the beach that lures Zelda there anyway. She doesn't come in a swimsuit, but she does pick out a nice summery dress that seems suitable to the location. She spends her days there sitting on a towel under an umbrella reading a book, occasionally walking out into the sunshine for a spell. In the evenings she enjoys some barbeque from one of the more popular setups, and even pitches in with cooking the food. You might just be handed a hotdog by her when you go to pay.]

ii.
It's a dark blue two piece that she dons beneath a sheer white coverup. Thankfully the weather is pleasant and the water even more so. She still isn't the most pleased at having been brought here, but Padmé realizes that sitting around and sulking isn't going to do anyone any good.
She's spent the better part of the day in and out of the water, and has left it for good now. The sand beneath her feet is a familiar sensation and she gives a wistful look toward the water. One day, she knows, she will return to Naboo. She had been thinking of that when there is suddenly something given her way and it draws Padmé up to halt. Yet, as her gaze shifts, a smile crosses over her face.]

Aeacinos Ixocia | OTA!
[ So with the water comes a nice reprieve for the naga to actually shed his skin and use his other form for once. A giant 50 foot tall snake can be seen dragging fallen trees and other heavier pieces of garbage from the wreckage latent beaches along the river. He's definitely preoccupied that he won't really pay attention to anyone behind him. So watch his tail as it thrashes a little as he tries to move a particularly large tree by literally shoving it full force into the beach itself until it cracks in half with his head.
The wood might spliter and fly off but Aeacinos uses his tail as a buffer to block most of the shrapnel. Some pieces might make it past his large body to which he will turn around with a look in his reptilian eyes. ]
I apologize. You are unharmed, yes?
Beach activities I
[ He doesn't know what the hell volleyball even is but he's competitive as hell so whoever gets the naga on their team has a good chance of winning. He'll flash a fanged grin at the opposing team getting into a stance that's more for fighting than for volleyball. ]
This will be an easy win! I will take on their entire team myself if need be. [ Aeacinos, no, you don't even know how to play?! ]
What are the rules of this volleyball? May we draw blood with this ball, or do I have to moderate my power? [ Please someone save the other team?! They're gonna die. ]
Beach activities II
[ The beach is one place Aeacinos can always be found, even during the cold months. For him it's a sense of solace and it reminds him of his home. He'll be enjoying the quiet, when most of the beach goers are gone, sporting a few different bottles of alcohol, as he watches the ocean and the sky slowly fade to black. His tail will thrash and still was the waves crash against him, soaking in the ocean water's smell and taste. This was definitely where he was most at home, that apartment never did suit a being such as him, but he enjoyed the comforts of a roof over his head. Still he's reminiscing whenever or whoever decides to happen upon him. He might shake the bottle liquor to get whoever's attention. ]
Care to share a drink with me? I am feeling oddly nostalgic tonight and all this fine liquor should not go to waste on dour thoughts.
Waterpark
[ And one can find the naga steeping himself in one of the many hot tubs. For now he's just relaxing in an ordinary one that soothes aches and pains but nothing else. His tail will languidly lash behind and around him as he coils himself inside the tub to make room for anyone else who wishes to join him. He'll lean back, eyes closing, with a sigh as he just relaxes and dozes off for the time being. ]
Beach activities I
The object's to get the volleyball to land on their side of the net. You have to hit the ball over the net, not catch or throw it, and you can only hit it once. You can't go under the net or touch it. The ball can't touch the net, go out of bounds, or be touched by more than three people before it's hit back over the net. If either team does any of those things, or lets the ball fall on their side of the net, they lose and the other team gets a point.
And I'm pretty sure deliberately injuring anybody is just going to get you tossed out of the game.
Beach clean up
cisco ramon | ota
[ Cleaning up by hand is very inefficient, isn't it? Of all the yearly traditions in this place, Cisco just doesn't get the appeal of this one. Who makes a big party out of picking up trash? There is nothing festive about picking up trash. So of course, he's done the most Cisco thing possible and decided to augment the day with a little technological help.
As he roams the beach, he is accompanied by a helper. It's a rather ugly looking thing - a solid metal box, from the outside, with a sliding opening at the top and one side, and flat wheels to help it move along the sand. But its use becomes clear every time Cisco picks up a branch, or fills up a bag of trash, or comes across other detritus. He merely drops it into the top of the bot, waits a few seconds, and then it comes out the side - melted down or compressed, for any recyclable materials; as a block of charcoal, for the wood. The garbage just incinerates without coming out the other end.
Very efficient. Not big enough for everyone to use, but if someone wants to come up and share, two people could feed material into it, trading off as they gather things up strolling down the beach. ]
iii. music
[ Cisco never in a million years would've expected he would be doing this. Music is one of those few things that makes him nervous. He'd always loved it, sure, but... it had always been Dante's thing. Dante was the prodigy. It was Dante's concerts Cisco was dragged to as a kid; Dante's practicing which had filled the house day after day. Cisco hadn't even tried to compete with that, after a while.
But here he is, just outside the area where the evening's concert is going to take place, with his guitar. It's not as bad as it would be, if he were on stage. If there were people sitting in chairs and rows, looking at him, with programs in their hands telling his name. He's just found a nice rock to sit on, and is going to play guitar for the folks who are trickling in, in pairs and small groups, coming to find their spots on the beach before the real concert starts.
He is nervous, but it shows more in how he keeps fussing with his hair and pushing it back, until finally he starts in on a first song. It's nothing complex, nothing very out of the ordinary. Just some fun arrangements of songs that were popular on Earth. Your Ariana Grande's, your Ciara's, your Natalia Kills. ]
iv. waterpark (established cr most likely?)
[ Cisco is ALL ABOUT that lazy river life. Haven't seen him in a while and want to catch up? He is going to be camped out in an inflatable raft, with a pair of sunglasses and a fruity drink, for several hours. It's a perfect chill time for a relaxed heart to heart, though he's probably not going to be starting conversations with any strangers. That's contrary to the lazy river spirit. ]
I
[Yes, that's definitely an overly cheerful woman bounding up to look at the trashbot. Feel free to ignore her tail or the small army of squirrels hanging around her. Or don't, because that's a lot of squurrels in one place for a species that's normally asocial.]
How'd you program to recognize and s9rr the individual pieces of trash?

maia drazhar | ota
[ It's about as un-emperor-like a task as he can think of; and yet here Maia is, walking the beach along with everyone else, helping to clean up. There is something wonderful about it - not just the warmth and light breeze and the bright reflection of the sun off the river. It's that there are so many people, all banding together, doing such small things, to accomplish something so big. No one is forcing them to do this. If they do not clean the beach, no one will starve, or suffer. Wars won't start. It will just make things nicer, and so they are all chipping in. Making it better, little bit by little bit.
Maia cannot imagine anything more wonderful.
So he is genuinely smiling as he gathers branches and bottles and other detritus from the floods. He's long since abandoned his imperial wardrobe, wearing something far more informal, while still modest enough that he is not embarrassed. He is even wearing a pair of sunglasses - one of his favorite discoveries in the past month.
If someone comes close enough, regardless of whether he knows them or not, Maia is going to greet them with a genuinely sunny: ]
Hello!
[ It's the customary greeting, here, and he has used the last few weeks well, learning to fit in. ]
ii. beach activities
[ Maia has never had the time or opportunity before, to see people playing sports of any kind. So, despite the fact that he doesn't understand the rules, and of course has no intention of participating, he watches from the sidelines with great interest. It is clear the people who are playing know what they are doing, understand the shifting fortunes in the various games. He sees their elation and grimaces, watches people running to and fro, leaping, hitting balls or catching them, and a myriad other things.
There is something graceful about all of it. And despite the fact that it is clearly competitive, it all seems in good fun. He catches no bitter glances, no spiteful cheats, no stress or envy. They are all just... enjoying one another, and the game, and their capable bodies, and their teamwork, and the loveliness of the day. It all just looks so effortless. ]
iv. waterpark (cw for v brief mention of abuse)
[ The waterpark might not have seemed it to anyone else, but to Maia, it is a feat of engineering. So many machines, all fitted together so intricately, to create such amusements. And what's more, this place is open to all. It is not sealed off, for one noble house, or for only members of the court. Anyone can come in, and mingle. People of all different backgrounds, chatting and playing and laughing together.
He could not stay on the sidelines, here. Could not let his shyness hold him back from participating, while he has the chance. When he returns home, he will be emperor once more - held high and apart. Expected to be serious and wise and busy keeping the country running. Here... he just wishes to be Maia. 19, and healthy, and happy, and going to a water park for the first time.
Maia feels a brief moment of worry, when he goes to a changing room, to don the swim trunks he had bought from the kiosk at the front. No one seems to be wearing shirts, and he doesn't want to get one wet. But he knows that, without one, the ugly snarl of silver scars across his left arm will be visible. The issue had never arisen, at court; people did not bare their arms, regardless of the season. But here, where modesty is clearly not the norm, he knows he will draw more attention concealing the scars than he will in baring them. He rubs at his forearm self-consciously as he emerges into the park. He can only hope no one will ask where he got them - but people here are so... straightforward, and honest.
Shaking his head, he determines not to let the memory of Setheris, or the marks of the damage he'd done, cloud over his happiness today. He is defiant, in his determination not to worry, to be content. He looks around, wondering what he should try first... ]

[It's his new elf-slash-goblin friend!
Taako has been enjoying the water park, mostly the wave pool because it's been a while since he's had a chance to surf (there's plenty of beaches outside the city, but he's always been a little wary, considering what could be in the water). For now, though, he's just been exploring some of what else was on offer, having acquired some kind of frozen beverage that's taking the edge off the heat.
But he wasn't going anywhere in particular, so he's more than happy to stop now that he's seen a familiar face.]
How've you been, bubbale? You settling in alright?

Wanda Maximoff | ota
[Wanda's using her powers to lift larger pieces of trash and debris and you might catch her heading back towards the dumpsters with a small parade of floating items behind and above her. It's almost practice for her - how much can she hold and for how long? At least if she has to set something down for a minute, the stakes are really low.
If she sees someone struggling with a heavy object or carrying too many things, she'll be quick to draw on her powers to intervene.]
iii. fireworks
[It's a delicate balance between wanting to see the fireworks and not liking the sound of them. Wanda might not have bothered if these weren't promised to be something truly special beyond anything she could have seen on Earth.
She's still flinching sometimes, but the fireworks are entirely worth it.]
They're beautiful.
iv. closed to Stephen
[For their first official date since the cafe match, Wanda's suggested the new waterpark. She's never been to one before, and it's something different enough from their previous outings that it should be fun. As always, she's in red.
Wanda offers him part of her funnel cake as they walk. She considers offering to feed it to him herself, but that feels like maybe too much, even if she's already fallen asleep on him. Wanda knows she's more tactile than most and she doesn't want to push, not yet.]
What do you want to do? There's a 'lazy river' or we could try one of the rides...
[She can't see either of them attempting to surf, honestly. But an advertisement for hot tubs catches her eye - that definitely seems like date material.]
Or the hot tubs could be fun.

They really are great, aren't they? I swear whatever they do to them here is definitely worth it!
