( closed ) I'll try not to sing out of key

who: Jim Kirk & close CR
what: a small get-together, and Jim introducing Victor to his friends
when: April 20th
where: a holosuite simulation of the Enterprise
warnings: none expected!

[ Jim's been in the Quarantine for a year now. Plenty of time to make connections, and establish a solid circle of friends that he cares for, trusts and relies on.

Granted, nothing's perfect. Plenty of people have come and gone. A number of names come to mind, too many people who left that he misses dearly. But the people he has here now, he cherishes them immensely. They're important to him, and some of them he'd almost consider family.

And Victor has mentioned more than once that he'd like to meet his friends. Jim's not keeping their relationship secret by any means, and after a month of going steady, he knows for sure how important Victor is to him, and that he'll be an important part of his life for as long as they're both in the Quarantine. So, it seems like the perfect time to set up a little get-together and invite his friends so he can introduce them to Victor.

Finding a place is a little tricky at first, because his loft is still inaccessible due to the flood, and it's not like he's gonna ask Victor to do it at his place. Beverly offers the perfect suggestion, though, and so Jim sets up one of the holosuites with his Enterprise program. Once arriving at the holosuites downtown and stepping inside, everyone will get to walk through a few of the various corridors of his ship, but the simulation is still fairly limited, and there's only so many areas one can visit. The small party itself is happening on the bridge, which would likely be the most inadequate location if this happened to be the real Enterprise. Seen as it isn't, though, no harm done.

There are a few snacks and sweets for people to help themselves to, plenty of drinks to go around (alcoholic and otherwise), and Jim has gone with a selection of old pop and rock music to be playing quietly in the background. It's not much, but it's really a very informal thing. His main purpose here —and he'll be going around the party making sure it happens— is to introduce Victor to his friends. ]

(( ooc: I'll be going around tossing Jim at people, possibly with Victor tagging along, but everyone's more than free to take this as an open log, so set up your own starters and tag around to your heart's content! ))

[James is certainly the type of person who can convince wallflowers to come to a party. It isn't that surprising to Victor just how many people are here, though it's a little intimidating at the same time. He's been to a few parties but they were never in his honor, and he already knew everybody there.

So he's making his way over to the panels as well. But it seems Rey beat him there. It is a bit easier approaching someone who seems interested in things he finds interesting, so here he goes]

You spend a lot of time on starships?
talentedscavenger: (Half smile)

[personal profile] talentedscavenger 2018-05-30 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Hm? [Oh, someone was talking to her. Someone she hasn't met before. There's a a slight nod of her head.]

Oh, yes. Not on ones like this--I'm not from Jim's world. [Best to state that now, since it can kind of get confusing to who came from where. Rey nearly catches herself to state that she is a friend of Jim's, but then why else would she be there? Friends were invited--and she's over thinking things a little.]

It's similar though, makes me miss it. [The ship that is, not her world. Well, okay, her world because there was nothing like it, but they weren't at a war here.]

You?
jolting: (V: Glasses glance)

[personal profile] jolting 2018-05-30 09:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a few centuries behind James. We have space crafts, but they aren't nearly this advanced, yet.

[He runs his fingers over one of the consoles] I've never even been outside our small town before coming here, let alone travel in space.
talentedscavenger: (Half smile)

[personal profile] talentedscavenger 2018-05-31 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Really?

[Well, that's interesting. Then again, Cisco's world was advanced, they had rockets, but they didn't travel very far. They hadn't figured out how to go Lightspeed yet.]

It's quite the rush, looking down at where you were and seeing a sky of stars just...there. You're part of it and you can go anywhere you want.

[Assuming there isn't a war to be fought, or a bounty on your head.]
jolting: (W: Faint)

[personal profile] jolting 2018-05-31 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
Now I see why you and James get along: you both love flying in space. And going wherever you want sounds pretty appealing. Did you pilot starships where you came from?
talentedscavenger: (Staff)

[personal profile] talentedscavenger 2018-05-31 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, there is that, but when I came here I heard he had a ship that he was repairing. Thought I could help. [And see if she could use it to get the heck out of here, but that didn't work out.

He was also there when Poe first left. A friend who was there for her to lean on and he some how became one of her closest friends.]

Only flown one ship, but there's nothing like her. I studied though, for a very long time. [She didn't want to give away too many details about herself--and in all honesty, it felt a bit awkward to talk about her and her past.]

What did you do in your world?
jolting: (W: Pockets)

[personal profile] jolting 2018-05-31 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I see. Did you manage to fix it?

[He doesn't suspect that they managed to get the ship beyond a certain point. This place is a bit more open than Storybrooke, but it still doesn't allow easy exits]

Same thing I do here: I'm a doctor at a hospital. Though back home, I was the only doctor, and here I'm part of a team.
talentedscavenger: (Scavenging)

[personal profile] talentedscavenger 2018-05-31 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
He was almost done by the time I approached him. He let me help though. We listened to music from his world--I didn't pay much attention to the lyrics. [A faint smile broke across her lips, thinking back to those times when they were working on finishing the wiring--making sure they didn't get shocked or anything.]

The only doctor? Did you live in a ...[Desert town? Or barren wasteland?] in a rural area or..just very small?

[Wait, he said he's a doctor...is...is he Victor?]
jolting: (W: Consider)

[personal profile] jolting 2018-05-31 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[He matches her smile. He knows James's musical taste, and can imagine the sort of songs they listened to]

Very small. Most of us walked from one place to another. The population's gotten a little bigger, but there was a time when we all knew each other. Sometimes I miss those days.
talentedscavenger: (Half smile)

[personal profile] talentedscavenger 2018-05-31 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[Jim's music served as background noise as they worked. It was better than listening to silence.]

I can't say I've ever been to a place like that. Was it a place where everyone knew each other?
jolting: (V: Read)

[personal profile] jolting 2018-05-31 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Not anymore. We have a lot of people I don't know now, which is pretty strange. But it sort of acted as preparation for being here, where everyone started out as a stranger.
talentedscavenger: (Default)

[personal profile] talentedscavenger 2018-05-31 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
But..isn't that like most places? You know a few people and the rest are strangers--or people you want to avoid.
jolting: (W: Uhh)

[personal profile] jolting 2018-05-31 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it is now. It's just different when you used to know everyone, and then suddenly there are a bunch of people you've never met.
talentedscavenger: (Default)

[personal profile] talentedscavenger 2018-05-31 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[It clicked in Rey's head then. She...really wouldn't know, considering the scavengers on Jakku kept their distance from one another. They knew of each other, knew enough to know who had been in the game that long, but every now and there, someone new would show up.

Whereas for this gentleman, it was the opposite.]

So just a sudden influx of new neighbors? [Curious, really.]

What else was your world like?
jolting: (W: Welp)

[personal profile] jolting 2018-05-31 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. We used to never get strangers. The first one threw us for a loop. These days... well, they aren’t strangers exactly, I guess. Just new in town. [He isn’t sure how to explain this odd quirk of Storybrooke, and decides it may be best not to]

Hm, well, the one I was born in had lots of rain and storms. We didn’t have electricity yet, so we used lamps and candles for light. Where I’ve been living is a little more modern. It’s because of that I can work at the hospital. I can’t say much about the world since I never left town.
talentedscavenger: (Staff)

[personal profile] talentedscavenger 2018-06-01 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Rey's eyebrows start to knit together, trying to understand what his world was in. So one part of of it had no electricity, and the other part was a bit more modern--modern enough for electricity, at least she assumes.

So partially rural and modern, but still unable to travel from one planet to another. Interesting...]

Did you have no interest in leaving your town? I mean, it sounds like you did considering where you were born and where you ended up working.
jolting: (W: Welp)

[personal profile] jolting 2018-06-01 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
It's a little more complicated than that. We can't leave, in the same way no one can leave this place. I didn't choose to leave my home world any more than you chose to be here.
talentedscavenger: (Default)

[personal profile] talentedscavenger 2018-06-04 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Complicated? That can never be good.]

Then what made you leave your home to where you were before?

[Kidnapped? Or found a way into...into a different world, realm, or star system?]
jolting: (W: Pockets)

[personal profile] jolting 2018-06-04 09:48 am (UTC)(link)
Long story short, it was a magical curse. Someone cast a spell that took me and everyone else in town away from their homes to another land.
talentedscavenger: (Huh)

[personal profile] talentedscavenger 2018-06-04 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[....Well okay then. It was a magic. But wow, being a curse that ripped him from his home...that's harsh.]

I'm so sorry. Magic it's...not part of my world. It's only discussed in stories.

[A beat]

Did you find a way back to your original world?
jolting: (W: Welp)

[personal profile] jolting 2018-06-04 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
It’s fine. Storybrooke is a strange place by most world standards.

Nope, but I’m fine with it. I like it here better.
talentedscavenger: (Default)

[personal profile] talentedscavenger 2018-06-04 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
How so? Because it was magic that brought you there or..?

[Sometimes, it's easy to understand magic, other times....not so much.]

That's good. At least you're making the most of it. Not sure most people could say that.
jolting: (W: Welp)

[personal profile] jolting 2018-06-04 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
There's that. And in the world we live in? We're all considered fictional characters. Even stranger than that, we have access to those fictional versions of ourselves. I've seen so many different interpretations of my story.
talentedscavenger: (Caught between)

[personal profile] talentedscavenger 2018-06-04 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That...is very strange.

[And could cause an identity crisis, if one actually read the story of their life. Then again, weren't the tales of actual people nothing more than tales? Sure the stories got twisted around...but there was some truth to them.]

I can't imagine what that's like. To know you're story or tale is being read by others, or to be thought of as nothing more than a story--that you're not real.

[Better yet, how did he handle it? Wait, no that's diving far too deeply into this, it's not her business and way too heavy of a conversation topic.]

Sorry, I didn't mean to make you relive the past.
jolting: (V: Glasses glance)

[personal profile] jolting 2018-06-04 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
It's fine. It was a little hard to adjust at first, but we're all sort of used to it by now.
