[ Jim's been in the Quarantine for a year now. Plenty of time to make connections, and establish a solid circle of friends that he cares for, trusts and relies on.

Granted, nothing's perfect. Plenty of people have come and gone. A number of names come to mind, too many people who left that he misses dearly. But the people he has here now, he cherishes them immensely. They're important to him, and some of them he'd almost consider family.

And Victor has mentioned more than once that he'd like to meet his friends. Jim's not keeping their relationship secret by any means, and after a month of going steady, he knows for sure how important Victor is to him, and that he'll be an important part of his life for as long as they're both in the Quarantine. So, it seems like the perfect time to set up a little get-together and invite his friends so he can introduce them to Victor.

Finding a place is a little tricky at first, because his loft is still inaccessible due to the flood, and it's not like he's gonna ask Victor to do it at his place. Beverly offers the perfect suggestion, though, and so Jim sets up one of the holosuites with his Enterprise program. Once arriving at the holosuites downtown and stepping inside, everyone will get to walk through a few of the various corridors of his ship, but the simulation is still fairly limited, and there's only so many areas one can visit. The small party itself is happening on the bridge, which would likely be the most inadequate location if this happened to be the real Enterprise. Seen as it isn't, though, no harm done.

There are a few snacks and sweets for people to help themselves to, plenty of drinks to go around (alcoholic and otherwise), and Jim has gone with a selection of old pop and rock music to be playing quietly in the background. It's not much, but it's really a very informal thing. His main purpose here —and he'll be going around the party making sure it happens— is to introduce Victor to his friends. ]

That...is very strange.

[And could cause an identity crisis, if one actually read the story of their life. Then again, weren't the tales of actual people nothing more than tales? Sure the stories got twisted around...but there was some truth to them.]

I can't imagine what that's like. To know you're story or tale is being read by others, or to be thought of as nothing more than a story--that you're not real.

[Better yet, how did he handle it? Wait, no that's diving far too deeply into this, it's not her business and way too heavy of a conversation topic.]

It's fine. It was a little hard to adjust at first, but we're all sort of used to it by now.

Mmm.. [Could someone really be fine after that? Or had a lot of time passed for him to comfortable with the idea? Another question that was better off not asked--especially at a party.]

Well at least you're here now--a better place as you've mentioned. Much better than where I was from.

Have you met Jim's new boyfriend?

Actually, that would be me. I'm the new boyfriend. Victor Frankenstein.

A sheepish smile comes across her face, and she finds herself looking down for a moment.]

Sorry, I didn't know. I mean--I've heard of you, from Jim, but never saw you until now--

[Just introduce yourself, Rey!]

I'm Rey, nice to meet you.

Yeah, I could probably do better at introducing myself first before launching into a conversation.

[He smiles at her] It's nice meeting you, Rey.

Jim's spoken very fondly of you. You've...you've really made him happy.

[Welp that got him to blush pretty quickly, and he does very poorly at hiding a happy smile]

I'm glad to hear that. He makes me happy, so... it's good, that I can do the same for him.

[Okay, that's kind of sweet. The fact that Victor can be open about his feelings is good. Rey hopes their relationship will last and she won't see Jim so...sad again.]

Yes, if you weren't then I would be concerned. [Which is reasonable, she thinks. If Victor wasn't making Jim happy, why would they be in a relationship?]

How did you two meet anyway? I don't think he's ever told me.

[jolting]

[Obviously Victor is hoping for the same thing. He smiles a bit more. It doesn't surprise him that all of James's friends are supportive and protective of him]

Oh. Well, maybe he just thinks I can tell it better. [He's being serious] So you know that friendr app? I was just looking around it when I saw his profile. And... well, he's very eye-catching, so I lingered. And I honestly would've just gone on by if I didn't read his interests. The fact that he liked vintage cars and twenty to twenty-first century Earth stuff, and "space is awesome". Obviously I had to know more about him. So I messaged him, and we talked for a while over the app. I asked him to show me a place where he liked to have a drink, and sparks flew.

I know of the friendr app, but I don't really use it.

[Because she's working and reaching out to someone that way seems...a bit odd to her? But, she listens, nodding along and trying not to chuckle at the fact that both of them are from a version of 'Earth.' Though she never really thought of Jim as eye-catching...? He is good looking, but what constitutes as eye-catching?

But back to the story.]

Sounds very lovely. Jim's is a very interesting man, doesn't surprise me he'd have a lot of interests. He doesn't spend too much time at work like some of us. [IE her.]

Though, it was nice having him nearby. I moved into a new apartment area and he was living there too. Had no clue.

[jolting]

Hmm. I used to spend a lot of time at work, but I've cut back lately. [For Reasons]

Yeah? He probably helped you settle in, right? [Just assuming since that seems like something James would do]

[A simple guess, he could just say that or not. It's his business. Or maybe Jim was taking some of Victor's time.]

Actually...no. I was settled in, didn't have too many boxes. I found him running, and we ended up running together, and we went back to his place and he introduced me to this movie uh...

[What was it called?]

Mean Girls. Nothing like I've ever seen.

Not at all. I just found other things I prefer to do with my time.

[He tilts his head at her story] Uh. Sorry, I don't think I know that one. I'll have to ask him about it.

It’s interesting, like a documentary? But about High School and it was more confusing than funny.

[ High School was not a thing on Jakku. ]

A documentary about high school? Well that sounds... odd. I'm definitely going to have to see this.

I didn’t know High Schools existed. [ Shrug. ]

I was told to not over think it, but I still had a hard time with it but it’s supposed to be funny.

I didn't really go to high school, but yeah. It's apparently a thing in most places.

[ A shrug] There are things you can learn from texts or by doing them yourself.

I'm not sure, either. Storybrooke does fine without one. [That's because until recently, no kid was hold enough to fall under the high school range]

That's just school. I'm guessing you didn't have one where you're from?

No, there wasn't one. Depending on the planet, people learn by working--or if you're lucky to leave, you maybe able to go to an area that offers such things.

Hard to believe, but you do tend to learn more from practice than theory.

How did you get into fixing ships?

[talentedscavenger]

Exactly. [Or if your livelihood depended on it.]

Didn't start out fixing ships. I was a scavenger before. Had to. [She says it casually, but there is a bit of distance in her voice. Not a great thing to talk about, but not bad either. It's part of her history--how she came to be who she was now.]

Learned what parts were valuable and how much food I could get for them. Started tinkering with things, learning how to make things work again through trial and error.

So it was a progression sort of thing. Still, that's pretty impressive that you went from scrapper to mechanic just by tinkering around. Not everyone has that kind of skill.

Well...progression motivated by survival. You got paid more if your items were in working condition, or if you made them into someone new.
