monster encounter?

Link was puzzled. Now that she mentioned it, the memory of his last time in Riverview flickered. He did remember speaking to someone about it.

"I think I remember. It was before I went through the portal again." He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "Sorry, my memory of the last time I was here is a little fuzzy sometimes."

"Likewise." He gazed back to the scrap she had collected when he hears some rustling from behind some ruined walls. Instinctively, he reaches for his sword, but he doesn't draw it just yet. He keeps his eyes focused on the direction the rustling came from, keeping still and silent.

"You went through the portal?" Rey eyes, eyebrows knitted together in concern and shock. So was he sent back, or had he been forced to go through? One more puzzle for her to figure out among other things. If he was forced through, why? Why was he gone and then brought back? It did confirm that those who were here and then came back had no memories. It would explain Rey's lack of memory of this place, along with Poe.

But, one thing at a time, they're not alone. She heard the rustling and drew out the lightsaber at her side. She hadn't ignited it yet, not unless she had to.

Her gaze flickered to Link, then towards the sound of the rustling. She inclined her head to the side, gesturing she would move to see if she could get a better look at what could be behind the ruined walls.

Link noticed that she pulled something out in response to the rustling. Good. Even if he had no idea what it was she was holding, her body language was enough to tell him that they could possibly work together to deal with the treat instead of Link having to keep whatever it was away from her.

He gave her a nod and took a careful step back. If she went ahead to check it out, he could stay back and give her cover. He pulled out his bow and put an arrow to the string. Meanwhile, the rustling seemed to move towards them, then it stopped before anything emerged. Tense, Link kept his gaze in the direction the sounds had come from and drew back the string...

The monster leaped out from the tall grasses growing among the ruins. It caught Link off guard, as it didn't appear from the area where the rustling came from, but instead from their right flank. Link had barely dodged under the sweeping arms and nasty claws of the creature, loosing the arrow. The creature let out a terrible wail of pain as it buried itself in its forearm. From the looks of it, that only made it angrier.

If Link tried to keep the monster away from her, or tried to protect her in anyway, it would be rather...annoying. If he did, then she would have to force him away and then try to keep herself safe, him safe, and thenfelt something. It was angry, hungry maybe...

When it finally leaped out from its hiding place, it was more gruesome than what Rey was expecting . She saw Link dodge under those long, sweeping arms and nasty claws. The arrow went into it's forearm. The wail of pain changed to an angry growl, moving to try and grab at Link with it's uninjured arm.

Rey ignited her lightsaber, hearing the faint hum of power and ran towards the monster. She came up on it's other side, intending on cutting down to size. It saw her coming and didn't think much of her weapon. She raised it up, preparing to strike, the monster tried to block it, only to wail out in pain as its claw was cut off.

Link took this opportunity while the monster was distracted by Rey and its own pain to quickly switch to his sword and go in to strike at a more vital spot. It was a very tall creature, but Link was still able to reach up and swing towards its torso. The blade went deep into its flesh and it howled again, this time collapsing from the deep wound. Now hunched over on all fours (or rather threes thanks to Rey), it seemed to realize that it bit off more than it can chew, and it attempted to retreat back into the shadows of the ruins.

He was pretty sure that it wouldn't have much of a chance of surviving the wounds it already suffered, but having dealt with plenty of monsters, Link thought it best to make sure it wouldn't be attacking anyone else. Link brought his sword down in its neck and the head went rolling on the ground, the rest of the body falling in a heap.

Link looked back at Rey and nodded in approval. He never had the chance of fighting with anyone that really seemed to know what they were doing with a weapon. "Good work."
