[Back in her survival gear, Rey had just finished a bit of work for the guard, surveying an area for changes in the creatures or landscape, and was taking the walk back to search for anything useful she could pick up and add to her pack. Her trips were less productive without a speeder to load up, but that didn't stop her from lugging a pack of scraps and junk back to the city any time she found an area worth scavenging.

She freezes when she hears a voice, but the voice is familiar, and after a moment she slips through the brush to find him, a small smile at the corner of her mouth as she pushes the fabric covering the lower half of her mouth back down like a scarf.]

Kal. What are you doing out here? [The same as her, she suspects, but she asks anyway, dropping the large pack off her shoulders onto a clear section of the ground. She loved the abandoned city. It reminded her of the ship graveyards that covered Jakku, and while they had been treacherous they had also been familiar.]

[It makes sense, and her smile grows a little. She's run into people several times in her trips, salvaging and scavenging. Locals and people like her alike. It was so familiar and natural, even in a different setting. Most of them were either quiet loners like her, avoiding other scavengers, or surprisingly friendly.]

Getting there. [Her bag was half full, she could still find a few more things to fit in and bring back with her, though the urgency of getting enough to put food in her stomach was gone. She made money now, working as a survival instructor and a surveyor for the perimeter guard. It was still a novelty to not only have currency to buy things with, but to have food that tasted good and didn't have to have water added to it to hydrate it.]

Were you looking for anything specific?

Scrap metal, mostly.

[And anything that looked like tech. It was what she was most used to. Since their mission, she's upgraded her wooden staff for one that's mostly metal, far more similar to her old staff from home, and it's been a comfort to have the weight of it with her and a sturdier weapon to defend herself with.]

I took a path through one of the factories and found these. [She tugs open her pack, pulling out a several large cloth wrapped metal and glass tubes.]

They're still in tact, I think they're projectors for some kind of holo device. [Or a television. She has no idea, really, but they looked important.]

Do you think the people in the city have a use for them?

[They weren't much use to her, but she had to learn all over again what did and didn't count as useful parts in this world. Her scavenging switching from abandoned ships to abandoned buildings. Most of what she found, she had no idea what it was for or did and could only hazard a guess.]

I've been looking for mechanical parts, especially for speeders or ships. [Neither of which she had really seen yet, but she wasn't giving up. If she could build herself a new speeder she could gather more in a trip than the small pack that she had to carry through the ruins, slung over her back.

She made a mental note to find the site he mentioned in the forest, if the tubes fetched any sort of decent price when she got them back to the main city.]

[She shakes her head, shutting her pack and tugging it back over her shoulder carefully with a slight frown.]

I haven't talked to many people beyond the Perimeter Guard and Captain Apple.

[She's used to keeping to herself, mostly. And boot camp had not left a lot of time for socializing. She was being compensated for her work as a surveyor, she didn't exactly need the extra money from scavenging, but it was hard to let go of what had been her life for so long.]

I don't need hand outs, I do just fine on my own.

[The snap comes almost instantly. She's reflexively bristly about accepting offers of help, though she's been trying to stop the knee jerk reactions. The urge to yank her hand away any time someone takes it, literally or figuratively.

She looks like she regrets it as she realizes she's done it again, her voice quieter, and her eyes directed off to the trees as if she's trying to busy herself looking elsewhere while also just checking for creatures.

She speaks up again, softer and apologetic in tone.]

I could use having someone to talk parts with. I don't know what more than half the things I pick up are.

[She at least records it, and plans to look her up later. It would be good to have some kind of consistent contacts instead of wandering from place to place learning who wanted what and what they would give her for it.]

Thank you. I will see what she has to say.
