[Keith lifted his eyes to give Shiro a sheepish smile, and then shrugged.]
Guess so.
[He put his other hand out, and, once the puppy seemed to have accepted that and be okay with it, he reached forward and rubbed the dog's ears a little.]
[Youta wagged his tail happily as Keith reached over and rubbed his head. Yes, the dog seemed to be getting along with everyone - except for the cat - so this seemed like it might work]
Yeah he is. I think it's interesting he looks like he has eyebrows. He was so dirty before I didn't see them clearly.
[There's still one more household resident that Youta needed to meet and Black was getting impatient downstairs, wondering what Shiro had taken upstairs. Red would probably pick up on it and Shiro was starting to hear Black downstairs]
[If Keith had been up here for a while, it probably wasn't a bad idea to move some. Yes, he needed to rest his leg, but he also shouldn't be completely immobile during the healing because he'd hurt more when he was better]
He might be more comfortable with two people around rather than one when meeting Black.
[And Keith did need to move anyway. Hence the "light duty" he was still doing at the Perimeter Guard. He wasn't completely relegated to a desk or full medical leave. He was starting to feel antsy and tense, so a good stretch would do him well.
He got up, favoring that leg slightly, but not a whole lot, as he stretched his arms over his head before following the two downstairs.
Red followed as well.
Jinx didn't bother coming. Instead, she moved over and curled up on Keith's pillow.]
[Shiro waited for Keith as he stood up and got moving. He knew his leg had to still be bothering him, but it was better than it was. He remembered Keith's injury day of and that had been much worse. At least he wasn't sitting all day long.
Shiro walked with him, holding the dog's leash. Youta trotted along in front of him. He rather deliberately paused to let Keith and Red go downstairs first. It wasn't really to be polite, but also make sure Youta had the space to go back upstairs if Black startled him and also to prevent Black from coming up the stairs while they were coming down.
Not that he actually had to worry about Black. The largest lion was sitting across the room and watching them. He wasn't making any move to come over.
But Youta still spotted him and stopped the stairs when Shiro tried to bring him down, staring intently at Black. He didn't seem scared... but had no idea of what to make of Black.
Shiro really hoped this wasn't the sign of a problem]
[Keith had paused for a moment when Shiro moved aside for him to go down first, not exactly sure what that was about, but then figured it out. He made his way down, carefully (stupid stitches), and Red went with him. When they got to the bottom, Red made her way towards Black as Keith turned to look back, hearing Shiro tell the dog it was okay.]
[Red was smaller than Black and if dogs had any sort of spatial awareness, Red going over to Black was a sure sign of how big Black actually was. Youta was definitely watching Black. At Keith's coaxing, he came a few steps more down, but stopped again.
It was another few moments then the mechanical sounds of the lions signaled Black moving as the lion laid down (as much as possible). A lower profile for an animal that seemed to weary?
It seemed to work at least. Youta did completely come down the stairs, walking cautiously over towards Black. If he had been a cat, this would have been the posture they had approaching something new before they tried smacking it. He did glance between Shiro and Black then Keith and Black, almost like he was looking for confirmation it was okay]
[Keith considered it for a moment, and then decided to take Black's example. He eased himself down, wincing a little bit at the tiny pull it gave his leg wound. Red watched, getting the hint, and did the same thing.]
[Shiro watched in surprise as Keith suddenly got down on the floor, Red doing the same thing. He wasn't sure what to expect when that happened... but he decided to do the same thing, sitting down as well.
But all of the sudden with other people and lions on the floor, it wasn't quite so scary. It was a game now! Youta's tail started wagging and he ran over to Shiro first (since he had the leash) licking him on the face. Then as he bounced off towards Keith (Shiro releasing the leash so he could), practically hopping up in his lap to sit on him for a moment then off he went running past Red and over to Black, where he paused again.
There was a pause again where he looked at the large feline robot in front of him, Black to his credit not moving. Then Youta reached out with a paw and booped Black on the nose with it. Again he looked oddly pleased with himself and Shiro couldn't help a chuckle as the dog trotted back over to him]
[Keith stretched his leg out as Red and then Shiro also followed suit to sit on the floor. And then HAPPY PUPPY TIME. He smiled a bit as he was almost tackled by the dog, barely keeping himself upright in the face of enthusiastic dog kisses, and then Youta was off again.
Red watched, but didn't move, aware that such a small organic thing could easily be injured by her if she played too roughly with it. She did, however, watch very closely when Youta almost tackled Keith. However, her Paladin didn't seem all the worse for wear afterwards, so she stayed put where she was.
Keith then laughed a little as Youta actually bopped the Head Lion on the nose.]
I'd say so. That was pretty brave.
[He leaned over a bit, leaning on Red to reassure her that he was okay. He'd felt her twinge of protectiveness as if she was afraid Youta was going to aggravate his healing injury or something. She purred a little, still lying next to him on the floor.]
[Youta did come the rest of the way over to Shiro and the black paladin reached over to remove Youta’s leash so that the dog could have free reign to walk between the different members of the party. Youta barely seemed to notice, standing there for a moment with tail wagging before he bounded off, going over to Black first, crouching down as though he was either trying to investigate the lion or try to get it to play. When Black purred his response, Youta bounded off, then time going back over to Red, going up to look at her as well]
Alright, so good. Not afraid of robot lions.
[Since they wouldn't hurt him, but they were intimidating]
Red purred in response as well, swishing her tail a little. She kind of wanted to play, too, but she wouldn't unless Keith gave her the okay to do so. He picked up on that, and chuckled slightly.]
Just be careful. He's not as durable as you are... and try not to knock anything over.
[Red stood with a grumble, and practically bounded to the back door. She glanced back, her tail up in anticipation. It was a fenced yard. Could they play outside?
[Shiro smiled back. It was good for the lions, it was good for the dog, it was good for Shiro, all of that because Youta wasn’t concerned now about the robot lions. Of course he had a feeling Red was probably going to be Youta’s non-human best friend. Especially when Keith made the comment that sounded like he was coaching her about playing with the dog.
As Red bounded for the backdoor, Youta chased after her, Black sitting back up to watch. Now at the door, Youta could see the backyard and started wagging his tail even more]
Well, as long as you’re careful. He’s not as fast or as durable like Keith said.
[Shiro got up off the floor, heading to the backdoor and opening it for Youta and Red]
[Red actually waited for the dog to go first, and then headed out after him. Keith eased himself up off the floor now, and then made his way over to the door to watch.]
Man... it's still kind of weird to watch them move so much like this. [The Red Lion of Voltron... playing with a puppy...]
[Youta did bound out the door ahead of Red. Good thing she was willing to wait because he was going to go out the door, gosh darn it! Youta first bounded around the yard for a moment, happy at the fresh air and grass under his feet after being at the shelter and then coming back to Shiro's before he turned and crouched, inviting Red to play with him]
Yeah it is. Red always was more active than some of the others, but this... nothing like this.
[And Black walked over to Shiro, bumping his head against Shiro's arm before looking outside as well]
[Keith leaned on the door jam, watching them play. It was kind of cute, actually. He crossed his arms, an amused expression on his face.
Red followed easily enough, actually bouncing about with the dog. She was careful, keeping contact to a minimum. Maybe a playful swat with her tail or something like that, but she behaved and didn't hurt Youta at all in her play.]
[Part of Shiro's interest was making sure that Red didn't try to play rough with Youta. She weighed a lot more and had non-retracting claws. But he quickly saw he didn't have to worry. She played, but didn't engage except for using her tail, Youta being the one to do all pouncing. And even though she didn't, Youta was still having a ball. He kept trying to grab her tail, especially since she kept swatting him with it]
It is funny. I wouldn't necessarily have thought they'd be so active... or that they'd play with a dog.
[Black watched for a moment then went "nope, not doing that" and walked away, going back his corner where he could see most of the room]
[Keith smiled a bit and headed into the kitchen, rummaging around a bit. He found some popcorn, so that would work as he poured some of it into a bowl they could share. He was tired of sitting, though, so he leaned on the kitchen counter, able to see out the door from where he was standing to watch the two of them play, and put the bowl between himself and Shiro. He leaned all his weight on his uninjured leg, and crossed the other over at the ankle.]
Well, if you ever find a day when you don't want to exercise the dog, I think you found someone to take care of it for you.
[Shiro joined him over at the counter, positioning himself so he could also see out the window. He took a small handful of popcorn and took a few bites of it]
It doesn't really hurt anymore. It's just that the stitches are annoying, and they itch. [And still occasionally pull if he moves the wrong way.] I think I have to go back in a few days to get them out. They said it was healing fine.

It's okay, Youta.

C'mon, boy... Youta. Come on.
[He tried to coax the dog to come down.]

Yeah. Someone's being a stick in the mud.
[He smirked.]

[Black grumbled at them from inside the house. Yeah sure, pick on the head lion for trying to look after the house]
We're just playing, buddy.

Red seems like she's got a handle on this. I think they'll be okay out there for a bit.
[He straightened up from the door, turning back inside.]
I'm gonna grab a snack. Want anything?

Yeah, I'm sure they'll be fine. Yeah, let's get a snack.
