[Open - Memory Share.]
who: Edward Elric and Anyone Interested
what: Memory Share Event, First Person in the post, Dreamscape/Network in the comments
when: October 9th-23rd
where: Around the city for First Person, Dreamscapes and Network for the rest.
warnings: Individual Warnings Below
Notes: I've included some scenes that I have on Youtube for unrelated reasons if anyone wants those.
Characters may choose to contact Ed, bring it up next time they see him, or never mention it and just have that insight on a moment in his life without ever telling him they know. That's entirely up to player discretion.
(If you would like to use a scene from '03 that's not listed here or the subtitled version, I'm fine with that as well! Just let me know which scene so that I'm aware.)
1. Reunion of the Fallen (Short Reaction)
cw: assault
This can be broken down any way you'd like through the month but it might start with seeing the rock go flying and slam the first guy in the face out of nowhere.
The next flash is could be the second guy demanding, "who the hell are you?" This scene would be dark, as Ed's eyes are closed. You can't feel tossing the rock in your hand, but you're aware of the movements.
Third flash, you're speaking but it's Ed's voice. The scene is still black. "Come on, guys. A band of thugs in the forest, that's so cliché."
The same voice from before, "What was that short stuff?" In an instant you're up, kicking this guy straight in the face with the sole of your boot.
His group of friends descend to attack, the girl they were bothering previously already forgotten. Whether or not your character sees the off-screen pummeling is up to you and may also be a separate fourth vision at a later time.
2.Night of the Chimera's Cry (Faint)
cw: body horror, physical violence, body post murder, dark themes, children present
This one is very brief. There's a child in an alley crying out for his mother, military all around. Flashes may come in single second shots, broken up through the day or weeks, everything happens very fast.
"That makes five."
"Hasn't investigations found anything, yet?"
"Don't blame us."
One woman tries to remove the child from the cloth covered corpse in the alley, but he holds on. When she picks him up, he pulls the cloth with him, crying for his mother and screaming "No!" while revealing the body.
She's on her back, arms bent and covered in blood. You feel yourself gasp, and suddenly there are flashes of other memories. A distorted upside down face followed by a happy woman in a purple dress, smiling, sitting at a table, and then lying on the floor. The distorted image returns and you can see it struggling to breathe before everything goes dark.
In your mind you might feel yourself sinking to the ground as someone behind you shouts, "Ed! Pick him up!"
"Sir!" Then silence.
3. Hohenheim of Light (Father Issues)
cw: assault
From a distance there's a man and a woman sitting at a table on a porch of a large yellow house. The first flash may just be a visual of them, but as the scenes grow longer and more clear through the month you'll be able to piece together the conversation that's happening. Some characters may notice a resemblance between the man at the table and Ed.
"A long time ago I saw an eagle with wings as black as obsidian, your hair is the exact same color. I never thought I'd see it again. Thank you, for bringing such a beautiful memory back to me."
The woman at the table is blushing at the attention, "And thank you. What a lovely thing to say."
No time is wasted before you charge forward, "What the hell are you doing flirting?!" You launch into a punch, right hand nothing but glove-less metal, knocking the man straight off the porch to the ground below.
In case you didn't recognize the voice, the woman sitting there confirms that this is Ed's memory, "Edward, what the-?"
He's not listening, you feel and hear yourself shouting in Ed's voice.
"You're gone for over ten years, and I come back home to that?! Damn you, old man!"
4. Hohenheim of Light (Milk Rant)
cw: assault (probably best combined with 3.)
There's a man on the ground, presumably Ed's father if this memory is coupled with flashes of the previous one. He smiles up at Ed where you're standing on the porch, who seems aggravated at best.
"Edward," Your eyes widen in surprise at being addressed, before setting once more - still hostile. "So, do you still hate drinking milk?"
Immediately you jump off the porch, kicking him to the ground. "Who are you calling a micro-sized half pint who didn't grow up because he doesn't drink milk?!"
From behind, you hear three voices chime in "That's not what he said, Edward."

Action/Text
He had only been up long enough to start his morning routine feeling absolutely wreaked when he woke up. Coffee was brewing as he lifted his phone to his ear and started listening. His bruised eyes going wide as he listened. Oh fuck.
Oh fuck.
He didn't know if Ed was home. So, instead he got a few simple words in text. ]
Catch up with me when you get a chance... I just got a voicemail from you we should talk about.
no subject
He'd been back and forth between the General Store and Floor Six enough that a text was probably best to catch him. Ed blinked at the message in confusion before sending a text back, as unclear as he could be about technology he understood how phones and messages worked and a voicemail he didn't leave sounded strange enough without adding in the weird business going on this month.]
A voicemail? What are you talking about? I didn't leave you any voicemail.
[If Jay was going to suggest they meet up or hash this out over the network now would be the time, because knowing what had been posted for everyone to see already? Ed was inclined to try to shut this one out if no one had seen it but Jason.]
no subject
no subject
[He's ignoring that comment about screaming for now, because 1. he doesn't want to think about it, and 2. for all he knows Jay just means he was screaming at someone, which wasn't too unrealistic considering the Lyle broadcast. There's a pause before he sends another text.]
I'll be over shortly.
[Sure enough Ed only stopped long enough to grab the energy drink Jay requested before arriving back on Floor Six. Whatever this was he probably didn't want anyone else hearing about it, and chances were anyone in the communal building was sleeping, at work, or heading out so that seemed the safer option.
He looked wholly unimpressed as he arrived, pulling the drink from the bag and holding it out for Jay as he set the bag on the counter. He didn't like the sound of this, not if his network broadcast of the day being stuck to Lyle was any indication of the direction things were going in. He had too many memories, too many memories of screaming in particular, to be comfortable with this. Still, he tried to sound casual, disinterested, more annoyed than anything. It could be literally anything, there was no reason to assume right away that it was one of the worst possibilities.]
All right, what is this about?
no subject
Always the facts, that was Bruce's first lession.]
no subject
The last thing he wanted was to hear it played out for him again, he remembered it well enough himself, the fear in his brother's voice, the scream of pain- his expression shifted abruptly from one of controlled anger to something like queasiness. If Jay got the message, that meant others could too, and he couldn't handle that thought, couldn't wrap his mind around Al hearing that scene.
He glanced away, a hand over his mouth as if he might be sick, before his expression set again, muttering quietly as if Jay was making a big deal out of nothing.]
I told you that happened.
no subject
You did. And if you heard me being beaten to death, wouldn't you have come to me to?
no subject
I wouldn't have played it back for you to listen to again.
no subject
Better to cut the bullshit. I wouldn't have let it play that long. Just the facts, that's what I gave you. It's the best way. Leaves no doubts only facts.
no subject
You're saying you'd rather have the evidence? If you'd just told me you got the message I would have trusted you, that's all the facts I need.
[He'll remember that later, Jay. You're welcome.]
no subject
Evidence proves something more than just word of mouth.. that am I'm tired as fuck, so cut me some slack.
[ He reached over to grab the drink and down more. ]
So, do you need to talk... or a hug or whatever the hell normal people need?
[ He wouldn't actually hug Ed, not for this.]
no subject
[Yeah, sure Jay. Play him his most traumatizing memory without so much as a word, after having him run to the store for you and then ask him to cut you slack when he's upset. This is all very logical. Except no it's not. The question gets a quirked eyebrow and a scowl, at the same time. He would probably be wise not to even think about touching Ed at this point, but the blond also doesn't consider it a serious offer, regardless.]
You're not really going to compare either of us to normal people, are you?
no subject
[ He takes another drink of the energy drink. Watching Ed silently and thinking. Well. This didn't go as he expected. This was where Roy or Starfire shined better. People and feelings were never his good point. Sure he could be great with kids, but Ed's not a kid, he may be more messed up than any of the Bats, which said a lot. Ed needed a cape.
Jason yawned a second holding a hand up before he waved the hand dismissively.]
I can try, isn't that the best we can ever hope for is to be somewhat normal?
no subject
[He doesn't sound like he appreciates it.]
Delivery could use a little work.
[That ... might be a warning not to try that shit again, Jay. Ed's never really considered Jason to be all that bad with people, he wasn't Nico, but Nico was also pretty open about being bad with people.
As for being worse than the Bats? Ed may disagree with that sentiment, if only because of Jason's experience with the pit. If anything, Purg did bring him pretty close though.
Ed doesn't respond right away to the question, actually taken by surprise that it's coming from someone like Jay. After a pause he just shrugs.]
I've never worried about being normal.
no subject
After a few moments he raked a hand through his hair before another yawn escaped and he finally realized he hadn't spoke aloud.]
Never claimed to be good with people, but eh, I try to fake it. It's the best I can hope for. It's easier to slip through crowds when no one looks at you.
no subject
I guess...
[He's not even sure what they're talking about at this point, but whatever. Topic dropped, better that than dwelling on it, at least.]
no subject
[ Jason yawned some as he rubbed at the back of his hair.]
That's all I really wanted to do was show you ask, and I guess I should just ask... are you okay? I mean, that's some heavy shit man.
no subject
[It's more of a joke than a serious question, but it might take Jay a second to notice, considering the tone Ed used. They certainly were from different worlds, but sometimes the similarities were uncanny. At the question something in his expression flinched, a grimace and he glanced away.]
You mean after doing something like that? No... I'll probably never be okay. Worst fucking thing I've ever done.
Try telling Al that, though.
[A pause, his head tilted to regard Jay quietly before golden eyes shift away again.]
After you nearly making me relive it?
[A hollow laugh, he wasn't looking at Jay. For someone that looked relatively well rested on arrival, he certainly looked like he hadn't slept in ages all of a sudden.]
Yeah, I'll get over that.
no subject
[ The tired vigilante did see the logic. Of course. Ed's from olden times while he's from the fast bustle of modern day... Gotham. It was day and night. Of course that's what his mind latched on to as Ed spoke on.
Jay took another drink seeming perplexed a moment. ]
...It's how they are. Tim forgave me for all the horrors I did to him... should I didn't get to murder him, but I sure tried. Some people are just made better than others...
...Sorry, I should have thought like a human instead of like a bat. [ No point hiding it, Ed knows. ] Training gets hard wired in.
Need a lift back to wherever?
no subject
I don't know. I guess, yeah... You're right, they're always going to be better people than us, aren't they? I just- don't know that Al's forgiven me, seems more like he just would rather not acknowledge it ever happened at all.
[Which is what bothered him. He doesn't comment on the training thing, whatever. It was in the past, it was over at this point. No sense dwelling on it.]
Yeah, sure. We're staying at the General Store for awhile, I should probably head back there before it gets much later.
[Because at this point in the month Ed probably still spent most of his time there.]
no subject
[ Jason yawned once more moving to slip his boots on and pulling on his jacket instead of a shirt and zipping it up snatching up his keys, and the energy drink as he heads for the door.]
Come on, I'd like to see this place anyway.
no subject
[Ed shook his head, grabbing the shopping bag from the counter as Jay gathered his stuff as well.]
I just want him to be happy, but I feel like I can't figure out how to do that- everything I try gets fucked up.
[This isn't the direction he wanted this conversation to go in, so as they leave he addresses the other thing Jay mentioned.]
It's not much, the store itself is from Purg. We fixed it up a bit, but it's for storing repairs more than anything. The apartment's basically just a kitchen and a bed.
[With professional restaurant grade stoves and a walk in fridge/freezer combo, but that's because it wasn't built to be residential.]
no subject
I know how that works, sounds like my brother's... it's normal I guess. [ What did a bat know about normal? ]
Ed, Buddy, look, stop worrying so much. If you worry to much about his feelings your going to push yourself into a depression. Worry about you first, then Al. Al's a big boy and he'll figure himself out to. Guys like us think to much, we make shit worse when we think to much.
[ He spoke standing back up right as the elevator dinged and he stepped in holding a hand back out for the drink.]
....Just tell me the bed's not in the actual kitchen, Edward Elric?
[ That made his eyes wide as the elevator startes to go down.]
no subject
Yeah, I've been keeping a lid on things but with her showing up it's hard to downplay what Purg was like when the physical evidence is right there-
[Which is when Al had changed his tune, as far as Ed was concerned. Going from not wanting to talk about it to asking for his brother to tell him everything. Everything would take time, it didn't just happen in one conversation, how did someone remember all those years in one sitting?]
You'll see when we get there.
[He wasn't going to try to explain that since the apartment is literally just a kitchen, yes the bed is definitely in the kitchen. It's a loft though, so probably not what Jay's imagining. He'll figure it out. Ed passed the drink back as Jason stood upright again, stepping onto the elevator and waiting for the doors to close before speaking again. It wasn't something he wanted overheard.]
And it's not normal. Don't tell me I'm overthinking this, Todd.
[Ed was already approaching a depression, but it's early still - probably too soon for Jason to put the pieces together, just yet. He hadn't started to get the moody edginess, the loss of appetite that are all approaching. Between Val and Citrine (who he's pretending not to recognize at this point) arriving, and the memory sharing? He's about to be pretty fucked up emotionally for awhile.]
You don't get it. I can't not worry about it, I can't ever make him happy because he's in love with me.
[It's only when the words are out that it occured to him what he's just admitted to Jay, of all people, and golden eyes widened - staring at him in the space of the empty elevator with the realization that he'd spent months trying to keep Al careful about being quiet on this front, and here he was blurting it out like an idiot.]
no subject
[ He muttered, as he took a drink of the red bull listening to Ed. A grin appearing when he was called Todd, it made him miss Damian a bit, Demon Brat rarely used his real name, but somehow it made him appreciate it a little more hearing it from Ed.
The second the words were spoke through Jason coughed on the drink he had just started to take after grinning shooting the energy drink from his nose before all but dropping the nearly empty can and started to seriously choke between the burn of the drink and the shock of it. No way, he had to of misheard that...
And yet, as a bat, he knew better. Pieces started to line up in his mind even as he choked. A hand moving up hitting himself hard in the chest to try and knock it out, like an idiot.]
