It's funny how Marinette, rather, Ladybug will fuss at other people to get rest and relax a while, but rarely takes her own advice. She's not put that many hours in with the Perimeter Guard since she only works with the search and rescue team part time, but it wouldn't hurt to pop in during her free time now and then. So the lady superhero makes her appearance, all red and black spots, complete with mask -naturally. Usually she goes out exploring around this time since she needs to see if she can find something interesting to spark her thoughts, but this time she's hanging around the guard station, either chatting with those present or idly training. Right now? It's training. She's been lucky enough to not have her memories leaked out or peeked in on - thank god(s). Or goddess. She's not picky. Swing by, chat her up or engage her in a friendly spar? ... be gentle.

That'...that's not a good thing.... that's ... that's probably in Marinette's category of people to avoid. ...actually more than probably. Someone who smiles while gutting an enemy is just...disturbing to her.

She's also kind of curious how he fights, being he seems to be wheelchair bound. So if she holds back, it's not because of his disability. It's just her nature. "No, I don't use weapons in battle." Her yoyo doesn't count, it's not a weapon. "Do you?"

That's probably the best attitude to have around Ivar. He's unstable at the best of times, his anger and temper often making him unpredictable. If she ends up running for the hills, she'll probably be smarter than ninety percent of the people Ivar interacts with.

"I do, but I can leave them to the side." He doesn't want to get too caught up in the moment and end up stabbing her. That would be no way to make a first impression.

YYYYYeah this... this is going to go poorly isn't it. Don't hurt her too much Ivar~! "It's fine," Ladybug waved a hand, "I should learn to adapt to my opponents, and not all of them are going to be courteous enough to put their weapons down because I don't fight with one. If you're more comfortable with your weapons, I don't mind." It'll be a learning experience!

Or a horrible, horrible mistake.

"Alright. The knives can stay." But he'll be wheeling over and setting the axe he has against the wall. An accidental stabbing is a lot easier to heal from than the blow of an axe, which when thrown by Ivar usually meant instantaneous death.

Ivar wheels to the center of the room, pulling out one of the knives, and holding it in his right hand. "Ready when you are." This will only end well for both of them, right?

Oh right. The axe. Yes, yes, good idea, leave the axe aside because while she is extremely dodgy and there was a 95% chance she'd be able to avoid lethal weapons being hurled at her head, there's still that 5% in which case... she's not interested in testing fate. Or how far her luck will go.

That being said HOW THE HELL DOES SHE FIGHT SOMEONE IN A WHEELCHAIR? "Erm..." She scratches her head, debating, and finally gives a slight shrug. "Right then! Here I go!" And she steps in close enough to throw a knife chop to the opposite side of his knife-hand - clearly an attempt to disarm.

Ladybug will soon find that trying to fight Ivar in his wheelchair is just like fighting anyone else, minus a little bit of mobility. He's a brutal opponent to be facing, for he tends to be unpredictable in how he moves. He waits to see what her first move will be and then he starts.

He jerks back his arm just in time to avoid losing his knife. He strikes out with the blade, going for a forward strike along the edge of Marinette's arm. It's a probing move, more designed to see how she'll react than to actually hurt her.

She had a feeling he had some skill in the wheelchair, being that he was actually allowed in the guard. She doubted they would allow someone if they couldn't hold their own - it's awkward though, with the difference in their heights - she hops back to avoid the strike and -- she's definitely avoiding taking advantage of any weaknesses he might have to being 'disabled (but seriously she doesn't think he's that disabled when he can fight as ably as a person NOT in a wheelchair. Instead circling to his opposite side, she aims a blow at the side of his head with the flat of her hand.

I see nothing. :)

Indeed, Ivar's no pushover. He might have to do things a little bit differently, but he didn't survive in his own time to become a Viking warrior by doing things the soft or easy way. He's tough as nails and it shows in his fighting style.

Ivar tries to move his head, and while he does avoid the full power of the blow, it still has enough force behind it to leave his head ringing for a moment or two. He swivels the wheelchair with one hand while trying to jab the blade upwards towards Ladybug's stomach.

Good good. *slips fifty bucks*

So precisely how.. does she deal with fighting someone who literally isn't even on her same level. Not the 'GET ON MY LEVEL SCRUB' level, but .. he's -wheelchair- bound. She's standing. This is the most awkward of scraps.

She almost doesn't twist out of the way in time. It's lucky for her that she's RATHER flexible and would like to not get a knife in her ribs. I mean. The blade wouldn't puncture but she still would get a nasty ouchie. It still tags her a bit, but the moment she feels the pressure of the blade start to press against her suit (which, thank god for magic, does not tear, or rip or anything) she immediately twists, putting her hands on the arms of his wheelchair and somersaulting right over the Viking, putting herself behind him. YEek that was close! ]

I thought this was training..? [ You know, clean, harmless, don't stab your partner in the stomach, training? ]

Oh, she's fast and flexible, two of Ivar's biggest disadvantages. He swirls around in his seat, moving the wheels with him as he turns. There's a fierce light in his eyes, something that's perhaps not quite sane. He seems confused by her question, looking at Ladybug before looking down at the knife in his hands.

"It is. And you're doing quite well." A rare compliment from the Viking. But he digresses. "You really think a monster's going to be any different if it attacks with tooth and claw? They aren't going to wait around and be polite. Better to learn how to avoid that now."

Hooray! Viking praise! .... he ... he looked kind of unstable for a second there though, should she be worried?

"Well.. this isn't a life or death situation, we're just training." Which apparently is the same thing for this guy. Has she made bad life choices here? She took a step back though - she really would LOVE to disarm him, but he was really good at keeping that knife in his hand.

Ladybug should definitely be worried. Just what has she gotten herself into here, agreeing to train with someone as crazy as Ivar? He sighs, pointing the knife at her for emphasis. "Training is life or death. If you hold back when you train, you hold back when you're in a real situation, and then, you die."

Then he flips the knife around so the point is facing down his arm and towards the floor in a reverse grip. "We can stop if you'd prefer."

But... but Ivar... kid..friendly...

She eyed the knife warily, wondering just how it is she had the luck to run into TWO people who had such a grimdark outlook on training! Jeez, it kind of made her wonder if Keith felt the same, but never brought it up with her when they were training. She kind of doubted it. Buuuuuut one never knows... he /had/ been holding back.

But training is... just... training. You're not supposed to be at risk of DYING...right? Where the hell was this guy FROM?

OKAY She COULD back out right now, but.. she kind of Doesn't LIKE to back down and run from a fight. At the same time, this guy is setting off a lot of warning flags. If Tikki were here she'd be like. WTF GET OUT OF HERE. "Well..." If she keeps training with him, was he going to end up flipping out on her? That's a scary thought.

So sorry, Ladybug. Ivar's got a crazy streak a mile long. You can see it in his eyes, something definitely unbalanced in those pale-blue irises. Sometimes, he can control it better than at other times. Once the weapons come out, it starts to flow a lot worse.

If only she knew that she was facing a bona fide Viking warrior who had skinned people alive, she might have had her mind made up a little bit faster.

He waits patiently for an answer. When nothing committal seems forthcoming, he flips the knife around in a fluid motion and sheathing it in his vest. "We'll stop here then."

.. yyyyyyeah she would DEFINITELY have made up her mind a lot faster if she knew that. She can't help but feel really relieved when he makes the decision for her, but her expression only registers surprise. "Really? Are you sure?" Oh thank god oh thank god oh thank god.

"Yes." But lest Ladybug think that she's getting off easy, he adds on, "I'll expect to see some improvement the next time we do this." That's right, Ivar had enjoyed himself enough to want to do it again. it just meant that she'd have to be on her toes the next time she went up against this strange, unstable Viking.

YYYYYYYYES! SAFE! THE guy kind of scares he-- "O-oh..?" WHAT. WHY. "Y-yeah! Sure, no problem! Next time..!" She flashes him a grin, albeit one that's a tiny big awkward and sheepish, turning to trot off. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! It's fine. This is fine.
