[OPEN] Halloween Haunt at The Apothecary
who: Magnus Bane (
appetitive) & anyone who'd like to come!
what: Halloween & Samhain party featuring transformative potions
when: October 31st at dusk through November 2nd at dawn
where: The Apothecary (formerly known as The Quarantine Bar)
warnings: please tag threads individually as needed!
While the drink menu is the main event, there will be plenty of other ways to find some ghoulish entertainment. Tables are laden with a variety of both sweet and savory appetizers which all paying customers are welcome to enjoy. Because of the length of the party, the kitchen will be serving a limited menu of main-course items during typical mealtimes throughout the days. And because no party would be complete without music, there will be a "live" skeleton band performing jazz, rock, and the occasional but obligatory Halloween song upon request—please use this power wisely and save your fellow party-goers from two hours of continuous Witchy Woman.
Given that this is a Halloween party, costumes are highly recommended and will be rewarded with a free drink upon arrival. If you come without a costume, bartenders will recommend trying the Monster Mash or Werewolves of London potions in order to get you more into the spirit of Halloween. Though the bar will be dotted with large couches, plush armchairs, and piles of floor pillows, dozing guests will be encouraged to go home and sleep between festivities. If you're unable to handle over thirty-six hours of continuous partying, go enjoy a nap and then return to the bar for another round later on!

The Apothecary's Halloween Haunt
For the entirety of October, The Apothecary bar has been and will continue to be decorated in deep shades of purple and orange, not to mention a whole lot of black and an array of convincingly grim yet decidedly elegant decorations. The real party doesn't start until the sun sets on Halloween night, stretching past the witching hours and through the following day in celebration of the lesser-known Samhain. From dusk of October 31st to dawn on November 2nd, the bar is alive with magic largely thanks to the menu of six alcoholic potions whose effects are posted on menus around the bar. These menus will be placed in clear sight with moving images of each drink so that guests are fully aware of their magical properties—if someone hands you a mystery drink, you're encouraged (but not obliged) to find out what it'll do to you before partaking. Each potion lasts an average of three hours, or until an antidote is drunk. And though multiple potions can be "stacked" by drinking them without an antidote in-between, party-goers will be cautioned that some potions may mix to create strange results. Luckily, the host will be attending from dusk to dawn in order to sort out any dangerous effects.

Alec Lightwood | Open
Pausing near one of the party goers, he gives the being a sheepish smile.]
Is everything okay?
Smiling at the memory, he decides to try the potion since it won’t interfere with the spell that gave him wings. He’s had magic before thanks to the Alliance rune, but this will be different. This isn’t the same type of magic that Magnus had shared with him. Using that power had been instinctive, this was… complicated.
After his third attempt at trying to turn a shot glass into a flower, he lets out a frustrated sigh.]
Conjuring up fireballs is much easier than this.
winged wallflower
But he notices, a few hours into the party, a young man he's never met before standing slightly away from the commotion. What surprises Cisco the most isn't the wings - everyone is walking around with tails and cat ears and scales and the like - but the fact that he is off by himself, leaning against the wall with his eyes closed. Cisco, being a worrier by nature, worries that he doesn't want to be here, or that perhaps he doesn't like the transformation that he's undergone with the wings but does not know that there is an antidote.
So he sidles over, concern clear on his face. Cisco is dressed in a galaxy-patterned suit, complete with makeup and nails to match, but for all his loud attire, his voice is soft as he asks: ]
Hey, you doin' okay over here? Need any help?
no subject
Eyes closed, he lets the sounds of the band and the general chatter of the crowd wash over him, shoulders slowly relaxing from the tension that had been caused being around so many people and the wight of the wings. There's too much noise for Alec to notice someone getting closer, but he does open his eyes when he senses someone near enough to be a threat. Old instinct are difficult to ignore, even when he's in a place that should be completely safe.
Alec quickly studies the being, assessing if there's a potential threat, then reminds himself that no one is going to start anything with him in the middle of Magnus' bar. The worried look makes it obvious that he's just checking on Alec, not ready to pick a fight. Giving the being a self-conscious smile, Alec stretches the wings to their full reach before tucking them against his back.]
I'm okay. Just not used to crowds or the - [The wings shift slightly so the white feathers are obvious above his shoulders.] They weigh more than I expected.
no subject
[ Cisco glances over his shoulder at the party, and all the guests milling around in their costumes. It's quite a lively gathering, and Cisco knows for a fact that the invitations had gone out wide. After all, he's never actually met the host before, or been to this bar.
Which also means he has no way of recognizing Alec or having any idea who he's speaking to when he asks, kindly: ]
There are antidote potions, if the wings are bothering you. You want me to get one for you?
[ And then, because it only seems polite, he says: ]
I'm Cisco, by the way. Cisco Ramon.
no subject
[They'd thrown a party in Wayward Pines, but it looked like there was more than the entire town's population packed in the Apothecary. And there's no fights for dominance going on like at the one Magnus had thrown for the Chairman's birthday.]
Thank you, but I'm okay with the wings. It's just a different type of weight than I'm used to carrying around. Magnus will pout if I get rid of them too soon. [That isn't quite true since he knows that Magnus would magic them away if they were starting to bother him.]
I'm Alec Lightwood-Bane. My husband's the one that conjured most of this up.
no subject
[ It would explain why, if he isn't the most fond of crowds, Alec would be sticking around; kind of hard to ditch the big elaborate Halloween party if your husband was the one throwing it. That makes a lot of things snap into place for Cisco, and he feels a bit silly, now, for the whole swooping in and trying to help thing. He tucks his hair back behind his ears, a little nervous as he admits: ]
I haven't actually met Magnus yet, but he throws a hell of a party. So are you, like, a wizard too?
[ Cisco doesn't know the right terminology; his main reference on all things magic stuff is Taako and the IPRE crew, but even when though they'd explained the differences between wizards and warlocks and druids and clerics, most of it just went right over Cisco's head. ]
no subject
[Laughing softly, he shakes his head, wings flaring out slightly. He still hasn't quite gotten the knack for them yet.] Magnus is a warlock, not wizard. There's no wizards in our world. I'm a demon hunter. No magic unless Magnus lets me share. Is there magic in your world?

Angelic Assistance
There were a few things that caught her attention; the drinks being ordered and the magic of the area. The 'live' skeleton band playing and other things she could ask about later. Really, she was counting down the seconds until she thought she could politely excuse herself and head back. Poe would have fun, and so would Finn, but her? She would rather stick to watching from the sidelines and inch her way towards the door.
Until Alec found her.]
Yeah, everything's fine. Just watching. [It was a bit overwhelming. The cantina in Maz's castle was fine, and she did well there, but at least she knew Chewie and Han. Hopefully her small smile was enough to convince Alec.]
no subject
Anyway, this is a chance for Rey to see real magic without demanding some kind of deal with Magnus. If she knew a High Warlock's rates for even a simple spell...
Giving her an understanding smile, he scans the crowd. It's rowdier than most nights, but Alec knows that Magnus won't let anything get out of hand.]
I've been doing that most of the night. I'm not great with crowds. My siblings and Magnus are the social ones.
no subject
You seem to be doing just fine. I saw you talking to some of the others.
[It probably had more to do with the angel wings than speaking to people, but that's more than she's done so far.]
Go and have fun, I'm fine here. Really.
no subject
Hm... let me guess. A brilliant young woman with perfect fashion sense, a blond in black with tattoos like mine, or a being that looks like he's part cat?
[All members of his family and the beings he's most comfortable with.]
What makes you think I wouldn't have fun talking to you?
no subject
I guess she had great fashion sense? [Because fashion wasn't something that was fret over on Jakku. But yes, she saw him with a woman like that, a blonde, and someone else.] Yes, saw you with them, but also greeting others. Acting like a host. [Which, he kind of was, but more out going than her at any rate.
And he sort of had her stumped there, but only for a moment.] I don't think I'm much fun. Unless it's building something. [But was that really fun when she did it more out of necessity than for her own enjoyment?]
no subject
[One of the many changes caused because he'd met Magnus and learned to accept himself.]
I think you are. I've never met anyone that built things. Most of my kin is only taught how to fight. We don't learn skills.

Jace Wayland | Winged Wallflower
Maybe he'd turn into a brilliant angel like Alec.
Jace can't take his eyes off him, especially now when he's quite and alone, his eyes closed and those beautiful wings Magnus gave him wiggling, making Alec smile to himself. He can tell his parabatai is pleased, happy even. He can feel it.
He can't help himself and ends up quietly moving to stand in front of Alec.]
I always knew you were more angelic than me.
no subject
He's probably going to end up taking it easy tomorrow because of the strange configuration that he's carrying around tonight but it'll be worth the minor discomfort. Cracking open one eye, he smiles at Jace, tipping the wings so the gold reflects in the odd lighting around them.]
Nope. You're the one that's more angelic.
[Normally he wouldn't mention that in public but no one can hear them over the music and they're in an area of the bar that no one seems interested in.]
I only got what Raziel gave most of us. You got a bonus shot angelic power.
no subject
I don't feel more angelic or more powerful. I definitely don't have wings.
[Only then does he pull his attention away for a moment and admire Alec's wings close-up, reaching out to lightly brush the back of his fingers against the feathers.]
no subject
[With anyone but family, Alec would have pulled away. Instead the wings move subtly closer to Jace. Alec stills as his parabatai gently touches the feathers, barely managing not to shiver at the contact. The wings aren't really sensitive, or he assumed they weren't, unless Magnus was touching them. Now that doesn't seem completely true.]
Uh - It's probably good that you don't. I have enough problems keeping up with you when you decide to jump off things.
no subject
Can you fly?
[He's genuinely curious and already considering the possibility of asking Magnus for a set of wings.]

pre-party at home
Turning around on the stool he was perched on, Magnus smiled warmly at Alec. "Welcome home, darling," he said as he stood, showing off almost the entirety of his legs thanks to his current fashion choices. The shirt is equally revealing, the neckline plunging halfway down his chest and revealing the collection of necklaces picked out just for Alec. If all of that didn't make it clear enough that he had the intention of getting Alec's attention, the black cat ears and tail he suddenly had would do the trick.
He stepped closer to Alec, movements tentative compared to his usual confidence around his husband. He wasn't sure what kind of reaction the feline features might warrant, and once again he'd used fashion as a sort of padding in that sense; if Alec didn't like his choice of Halloween costume, at least he would be distracted by everything else long enough for Magnus to recover. "You left so early this morning that I don't remember saying goodbye."
Will be NC17
But Halloween had older roots, ones connected to magic and the forces that were so much a part of his husband's life. Alec wanted this holiday, this party, to be special for Magnus. Which was why he'd taken extra care with the suit he'd chosen. He was still slightly nervous about the wings Magnus had suggested, more concerned about the logistics of spending so much time with the wings than any worries about the magic, but they'd find a way to make them work without Alec doing too much damage to the objects around him
For a moment, he leaned against the door frame, watching Magnus at the vanity, catching hints of his costume from the reflection in the mirror. He always thought Magnus was beautiful but the gold shimmering around his eyes brought out the colors of his eyes...
His cat eyes. Magnus wasn't glamouring his eyes.
Swallowing hard, he took a few steps into the room, he let the door shut behind him, knowing that the spells on the panel would set as soon as it closed so they wouldn't be interrupted. Slowly he realized that there were cat ears nearly hidden in his husband's hair. And there was a tail too, wasn't there? It was difficult for Alec to focus when he kept focusing on the lace - he wasn't even sure what kind of underwear Magnus was wearing but he wanted to see what it felt like beneath his fingers - but he thought his husband had a real cat tail.
He tried to speak, forcing his gaze upward, away from the distracting lace only to be distracted again by the gold embroidery that drew his attention to the necklaces that Magnus had chosen. Each one somehow symbolized him.
Before he realized what he was doing, he moved forward, hands gently cupping the back of Magnus' neck before he pulled him close for a kiss, trying to show Magnus how much all of this meant to him. He could barely remember the last time Magnus had been so open about being a warlock and combining that with all the hints of Alec and choosing clothing that would drive him crazy... He really should tell Magnus that he was happy to be home and he had said goodbye, but kissing seemed more important than anything Alec could think of saying.
no subject
"What do you think?" he just about manages to ask before Alec is in front of him, hands pulling him in so they can meet in a passionate kiss. Magnus melts, all of the anxiety leaving his body as he drapes his arms around Alec's neck and pushes his fingers into the thick curls of his hair. Humming happily into the kiss, Magnus felt his tail shift and move to wrap partially around Alec's waist. He couldn't imagine a time when he'd been happier, able to be entirely himself and yet still loved and desired by his partner. Alec was incredible and unlike any other lover Magnus had ever had, accepting every facet of his eccentric and complicated personality.
Though he was loath to pull away, he gently leaned back enough to break the kiss and smile up at Alec with what he knew had to be the most besotted expression he was capable of. "I take it you like my Halloween costume, then?" he teased gently, hands sliding out of Alec's hair to rest on either side of his neck.
no subject
He does manage a smile before their lips meet, eyes bright with adoration and desire. Eyes drifting closed, when he felt Magnus relax against him, he wondered why he'd been so worried. Magnus knew that he loved his warlock marks. If he was worried that it was one of those fantasies that he wasn't interested in, they both knew that all one of them had to do was explain that and they'd find some other fantasy they both shared. Deepening the kiss, he stilled briefly when he felt something wrap around his waist. Belatedly, he remembered that Magnus had a tail and it seemed to be as affectionate as the rest of Alec's husband.
Making a sound of protest when Magnus pulled away, he leaned in for another kiss before Alec noticed how how he was looking at him. Looking just as besotted as his husband, he slid his hand along the necklaces, gently tangling his fingers in the chains, brushing his thumb over the arrowhead. "I, uh - " Swallowing hard, he tried to think of something other than the tight shorts that Magnus was wearing or the silky fabric that brushed against his knuckles. It would feel amazing against his fingers, warm from Magnus skin, teasing them both as he touched Magnus. "I don't think we'll make it to the party if you're going dressed like this."
no subject
Leaning into the kiss, wanting to feel more of Alec's mouth and hands against his skin, Magnus nipped gently at his bottom lip. He got part of his wish as Alec's hand moved down his neck, brushing over his collarbones as well as all of the gold chains covering them and cascading down the center of his chest. A grin slowly dawned on his face as Alec once again struggled with words, reminding him of how they'd interacted after their first meeting, back when Alec was shy and unsure of his obvious attraction towards Magnus.
"Oh, I'm not going to the party like this," he admitted, shifting his hips to brush against Alec's hand which was slowly rubbing a thumb over the fabric of his shorts. "This is just for you, my Alexander. It may be an adult party, but I don't plan on hosting with my cock on display," he added with a wicked smirk, almost challenging Alec to take a closer look at the sheer fabric of the lace.
no subject
"By the Angel, Magnus..." He wasn't even sure how he should finish that. Every detail of his husband's costume had to be chosen to make it impossible for him to think. The necklaces with the symbols that represented Alec. The soft fabrics that Magnus knew always fascinated him, always making him to want to explore the textures, especially when Magnus was wearing them. The gold glitter that brought out the green and gold of Magnus' eyes. The ears and tail...
And the shorts. He hadn't ever thought of Magnus wearing something like that but now that he'd seen it he wasn't sure if he'd ever stop thinking about it.
When his husband moved, Alec's fingers slipped lower to rest on Magnus' hip. He almost moved his hand between them when the smirk snapped Alec out of his daze, knowing that his husband was teasing and challenging him. If Magnus was going to tease, then he should do the same. "I don't know, Magnus." As he spoke, he began exploring the pattern of lace, following it around Magnus' thigh instead of to the area that his husband wanted him to focus on. "You liked having your cock on display when we were at that lounge."
Palming Magnus' ass, he almost forgot about the tail until he brushed a finger against the base. A surprise, but a good surprise. Nuzzling Magnus' human ear, he tugged sharply on one of his earrings, trying to ignore how much he wanted to accept that challenge so he could tease his husband. "Didn't you like having everyone there know that I'm yours? Everyone saw how much I want you. How much I love you."
