Dante, don't!
[ Which, of course, only seems to encourage the older boy. Dante throws it into the air, higher this time, and catches it, but Cisco winces, clearly terrified that he'll drop it. He tries to grab it away from his older brother, but Dante gets to his feet, holding it above his head. ]

It's inevitable, what happens eventually. Dante hurls the thing much too high, and it's hard to say, whether he was really trying to catch it or not. Either way, it slips between his hands and crashes onto the asphalt, shattering into about a dozen pieces. Cisco scrambles to pick up all the pieces, but the lens from the camera has shattered and the casing is cracked. ]
Oops.
[ Dante shrugs, sounds absolutely unapologetic. Cisco starts sniffling, fighting back tears as he tries to fit the thing back together. He starts putting the pieces back into the shoebox, wiping tears from his cheeks as they start to fall but saying nothing, not even looking at his brother. Dante, for his part, says scornfully: ]
Seriously, Cisco, it was an accident. You gotta stop being such a sissy all the time. It doesn't look good.
[ Then he walks off in the direction that Val had gone without another word, leaving Cisco to clean up the rest of the mess. ]

A. MURDER {third person dream OR first person vision}
[watch here
This memory is both intensely traumatic and one that Cisco has relived many many times. Have fun with it if you want, there may be small distortions - sometimes Cisco seems to remember Eobard's demeanor being gleeful, even smiling as he kills him. There may be odd gaps here and there, as well as inconsistencies. Or you can play it totally straight, just as it happened.]
B. VIBING {first person; vision}
[watch here (memory lasts up 'til 2:30)
This memory is likely to come across in jumbled pieces at first, and then more clearly as the week progresses. What's most important is that this memory captures the subjective experience of vibing from Cisco's perspective. So at one moment the memory is of looking down at a microscope slide of sand, feeling intense unease and fear, to hands reaching out and touching the sand. Once that contact is established, there is a swooping feeling, like missing a step going down stairs or plummeting on a roller coaster, and then the world goes static-y, with strange flashes of light, blurred vision, and an eerie blue tint. The warehouse that Cisco sees feels intensely present, though sounds are a bit muffled and occasionally there are jumps and starts. The end of the vision is as jarring as the start, and afterwards there is the confrontation with Stein, and a palpable feeling of panic over being interrupted and witnessed.]
C. PRISONER {first person; vision}
[watch here
This memory is clear and vivid, accompanied by feelings of hunger, exhaustion, frustration. Feel free to supplement after the cutoff at the end of the scene a moment where Cisco begs that he's already made them weapons (the heat, cold, and gold guns) and that's enough, and also Snart threatening to just out and out kill Dante, both of which are confirmed to happen but aren't shown in the clip I linked.]
D. BABY NERD PT 1 {third person; dream}
[ Cisco can't be older than nine or so, and he's adorable. We're talking a criminally cute child. His hair is cut short, which makes his ears stick out a little, and there's a tooth missing his bottom row of teeth. He's small for his age, (looks even smaller because he's wearing what are clearly hand-me-down clothes), all round-cheeked and bright-eyed. He comes bounding up to a bench in what looks like a small neighborhood park. Sitting on the bench is a pretty brunette girl with a high ponytail and big earrings, and a boy that looks a little like Cisco, around five years older. Cisco, bubbly and excited, asks: ]
Hey Val, hey Dante, do you wanna see what I made?
[ Dante, who has a hand very obviously and purposefully perched on Val's knee, glares absolute daggers at his little brother, but before he can say anything she answers with genuine interest: ]
Yeah, totally.
[ Cisco beams and pulls the lid off the shoebox. Inside is rather ugly-looking device, clearly cobbled together with materials from a bunch of different things. But Cisco pulls it out carefully as if it's the most precious thing on earth and holds it up, explaining in a delighted rush, what it is and how he made it. He has apparently cobbled together pieces from a broken cell phone, an old malfunctioning digital camera, and a half-smashed mp3 player, into a frankenstein'd device that can take pictures, make phone calls, and play music, too. Val sits up as he explains, going from indulgent to this kid with his little doodad to genuinely excited. Cisco hands it over to her and she tests it out, taking a photo of the beaming Cisco, clicking a number code onto the pad which makes 'I Could Fall In Love' by Selena play (though only loud enough that she has to hold the thing to her ear like a phone to hear it). Then, she even uses it as a phone, calling her mom, exclaiming that it really works, and hanging up again. ]
Cisco, this is so cool.
[ She jumps to her feet, saying that she's got to go get her best friend from the corner store across the street to bring her to see it, too, and goes rushing off. Cisco just stands there, holding the thing and beaming like he's never been more proud of himself in his entire life. ]
E. BABY NERD PT 2 {third person; dream}
[ (Continued from the last one, for anyone who wants an angst component)
As this scene was happening with Val, Dante was getting more and more visibly annoyed, trying to redirect attention back to himself. As soon as she leaves Dante snatches the device from Cisco, turning it over once or twice, unimpressed. Cisco's face falls, shifting from joy to trepidation, like he knows something bad is going to happen. Dante doesn't disappoint; he tosses the thing in the air and then catches it as it falls. Cisco pleads: ]
Come on, don't be such a fucking girl, I'm not gonna drop it.
[ He tosses it into the air with enough momentum to it goes behind him and he has to spin to catch it. Cisco keeps pleading with him to quit it, trying to wrestle it away from Dante, who only laughs. ]

He starts putting the pieces back into the shoebox, wiping tears from his cheeks as they start to fall but saying nothing, not even looking at his brother. Dante, for his part, says scornfully: ]

[ Then he walks off in the direction that Val had gone without another word, leaving Cisco to clean up the rest of the mess. ]

for magnus
Except Magnus is standing there a few feet away from him, getting his bearings. Cisco walks over, rests a hand against his arm. There are people all around them... or at least, Cisco thinks they're people. They're a bit mushroomier than he would have liked, but once he gets over the strangeness, it's... kind of cool. ]
Hey, bud. We're dreaming.
[ A little distance off Cisco sees a few figures wearing protective suits. He gets distracted a few moments looking at them before he turns to Magnus once more. ]
Any of this look familiar?
no subject
[Magnus isn't so surprised to have another weird dream, or really to see Cisco in it. All of his dreams this week have been weird. It takes him a minute to remember the setting, because the amount of time Magnus had spent on this planet was minimal, but he does remember it after a click.]
Yeah, I've been here. I think they called it the Mushroom Kingdom? This is one of those cycles where I died pretty quick, so I didn't spend a whole lot of time here. The air was toxic.
[But that doesn't matter so much in a dreamscape, huh? He spots his companions in their support suits and points them out.]
Hey, there's the gang! You wanna meet my other friends?
no subject
When Magnus says the air is toxic, Cisco's eyes go wide for a moment, looking around him, worried. It's just a dream, right? Just a memory? There's no way he could be poisoned, actually poisoned in his bed in his apartment, just by being here. Right?
(Cisco doesn't always have the most trust in the barriers of the universe staying up and remaining solid and impermeable. That's just a natural result of sometimes seeing into other universes, other timelines - it's all too easy for him to see these supposedly rigid boundaries as less solid than most think.)
Still, he is curious, to see the other members of the crew he hasn't met yet - Davenport, and Merle, and Barry. So he nods to Magnus and follows him closer, peering curiously at the people in the suits. ]
Where are you?
no subject
[He’s very blasé about death. At least, in the context of the IPRE mission. He doesn’t even remember this death, really, besides the fact that he started to feel sick, went into some kind of delirious bedrest, then woke up again at the start of the next cycle. He didn’t waste any time being upset about this one.
Magnus leads Cisco in closer to the group, counting his crew mates on his fingers. Barry, Lup, Lucretia, Davenport, Merle... He barely catches a bored Taako off to the side, paging through a Fantasy Vogue. No sign of himself.]
I don’t remember this exact place, so maybe this was after—oh.
[Upon closer inspection, he realizes why the crew has gathered here. Over Barry’s shoulder he catches a glimpse of himself, laying on a stone slab, unmoving.]
... That’d be why.
no subject
Oh.
[ Not invading Magnus's memory, after all, then. This must be someone else's, because there's Magnus's body, stretched out, and visibly, inescapably dead. One of them had set Magnus's hands to rest on his stomach, and there's a pallor under his skin that can't be mistaken.
Cisco's seen dead bodies before. And he knows that this death is just a temporary one, that Magnus would come back to life at the beginning of the next cycle. But neither of those things diminishes the impact of seeing his friend's corpse laid out like that. It's something automatic, and visceral. Cisco's stomach twists and he takes a few steps back again, glancing over at the real Magnus, concerned. If this is weird for Cisco, it's gotta be unimaginably weird, for him. ]
no subject
Then Magnus becomes aware of Cisco’s discomfort. He’s so chill about the idea of his own death that he forgot that someone else might not be so chill about it.] Shit—sorry, Cisco. This is probably really weird. I, uh—I got better? [It’s a very sorry attempt at cheering someone up.]
no subject
But he can't seem to bring himself to do it, today. Not when he sees Magnus's friends - his family, really - all gathered around him, looking quiet and sad and fond. Cisco doesn't even buy Taako's whole unfeeling act; he's seen the cracks in that fake indifference, knows that when Taako distances himself, it's to protect himself from feelings that would overwhelm him otherwise. Cisco swallows, eyes going hot and overbright with tears that he tries to blink back. ]
It still happened. You still died.
[ Perhaps he ought to be more stoic, or at least more logical. He knows that they'd all died a bunch during the cycles, that they'd moved on and none of them seem all that scarred by it. But Cisco's heart is too big, and he's never been good at hiding it. He sucks in a breath that's gone just a bit shuddery, walking closer to the group of mourners. The slab that Magnus's corpse is lying on is low to the ground; Cisco comes up beside it and sits on the ground, cross-legged, near to Magnus's head. ]
Does it- does it really not bother you?
no subject
He's surprised when Cisco chooses to sit down by dead Magnus. He thought for sure Cisco would want to leave the scene, and he would've been happy to if he had. Magnus follows Cisco, but remains standing.]
I mean... not really. I always kinda figured I'd die young anyway, so. [He says this with a shrug, but then regrets it. That was maybe not the way to lighten the mood.
From this angle he can see everything the crew is doing. Logically, he knew that they'd mourn at least a little bit, but he was never really aware of it. They all look so sad. Merle is giving a eulogy. They bothered to give him a funeral this early in the cycles? Oh, no. He doesn't like this.]
Y'know, we don't have to—at least, I don't think we have to stay here and watch this.
no subject
I've been in a few of these dreams, before. We can only get as far as whoever's memory this is could see. Beyond that it's just... nothing.
[ But he thinks, from Magnus's body language, from the look on his face, that he sees signs of discomfort, of wanting to escape. Perhaps he's not as indifferent as he might like. Cisco gets to his feet again, comes over to the side of the living, present-day Magnus, who is staring at Merle as he reads some kind of scripture. ]
We could try moving away a little bit?
[ Cisco is sure they won't be able to go far, but they don't need to be so quite up close. From here, he can see that Lucretia (she looks so young, when had he gotten used to her older face?) has tears in her eyes, so he takes Magnus by the elbow and steers him about ten feet away. Quietly, Cisco asks: ]
Why- why did you think you would die young?
[ It's not as if Magnus had been sick, right - he always seems so sturdy, and healthy. ]
no subject
He puts some thought into his answer. It's something he's accepted about himself for a while, but not really mentioned to anyone, just because he doesn't want to be worried about.]
I always planned to die heroically. Like, doing something good. Saving a lot of people. Taking down a villain. [He's aware of how reckless he sounds, but he shrugs it off.] I just feel like that's... My purpose, I guess? To protect people. I know that that's gonna get me in trouble one of these days, but... I guess I don't care, as long as I'm helping someone else.
[It's a lot to give away, but Cisco's just seen his funeral, so what's the harm?]
no subject
Cisco chews at the inside of his cheek, looking at Magnus like he's just casually announced that he likes to kick puppies. There is disbelief, and concern, and a tiny bit of anger, too. It takes a moment for Cisco to find the right words, and when he does speak, it's quietly at first, but gaining in volume and momentum. ]
It's good to wanna protect people, and take down villains, and all that heroic shit. You know I'm all about that. And... yeah, sometimes people have to give up their lives to save everyone. Eddie had to make that choice. Ronnie did, too.
[ Cisco swallows, gathering up his composure; he'd told Magnus, in the past, how much he reminds him of Ronnie. He thinks that Magnus knows, at least obliquely, that Ronnie's death had hurt Cisco deeply. ]
But Magnus... you can't seriously want that? You... shouldn't. You- you should care. I care. And your friends care, too. I mean- look at them, Magnus!
[ Before, he'd been happy to divert Magnus's attention, to distract him and make this dream process a little easier to deal with. But right now, Magnus's comfort is just going to have to take a backseat to the wakeup call that he seems in need of. Cisco gestures with an arm over to the other members of the IPRE crew. They'd known, at this point, that the deaths were temporary, but they're still having a funeral. Still standing solemn and quiet, because Magnus is lying there, dead. ]
no subject
Seeing how his crew was reacting to his death had already done a number for his guilt, but in that case he'd just been observing. This time, Cisco is here, calling him out. Magnus had always considered his experiences to be an outlier; he'd never thought about Cisco having experienced anything like this before. Hearing that Eddie had apparently risked (given?) his life like this before, as well as Ronnie—who he's never met, but remembers specifically because Cisco had compared Magnus to him—hammers into that guilt. He'd dropped that I want to die heroically spiel like it was nothing, and then learned how familiar Cisco is with losing people to heroism.
He doesn't want to look at the funeral again, but he does as Cisco instructs. They're closing the ceremony now, lighting a pyre beneath Magnus. He watches it blaze on until he can't anymore.
When he turns back to Cisco, he casts his eyes downward, a few streaks running down his face.]
Yeah, you're right. I should... probably take better care of myself. [There's a beat, and then Magnus wipes his tears away.] I just felt like—like if I wanted my life to mean something, then...
[He glances at the crew again, this time of his own accord. They've started to leave, heads hung low.]
I guess it already does, though, huh?
no subject
Cisco's own eyes have gone a bit wet as he says, quiet but fervent: ]
Oh, Magnus. Of course it already means something.
[ It is such an odd place to have this discussion - surrounded by strange, giant, glowing mushrooms, with the crackling of Magnus's funeral pyre growing steadily louder close-by. Cisco wonders what it was, that made Magnus feel like the only way he could matter would be to die. It's strange, really. How such an admirable trait - wanting to protect those weaker than himself - could exist in such quantities that it became a kind of a flaw, almost. ]
You might not have a choice, someday. Sometimes... there really isn't any other way. I know that.
[ His voice goes a bit tight, as he says that. Cisco thinks of Eddie, bleeding out, not ten feet away from him. He's seen the wreckage of that, all the grief that Iris and Joe went through, all the grief Eddie is still going through. And he thinks of Ronnie, kissing Caitlin before he flew up towards the singularity, like he already knew he wasn't coming back. Cisco thinks he must have known, must have been ready for it. Neither of them had had a choice, but it wasn't good, wasn't romantic or ideal in any way. It was just... awful. ]
But when there is, it means so much more to live. To keep on living, and helping, and doing good. Your plan should always be to live.
no subject
Thanks, dude. I think I needed some help seeing that, actually... I'll start planning on that.
[He's well aware that one day he won't have that choice—he knows that the battle with The Hunger will come to an end, and he's already been told that they'll win, even if he doesn't know whether he'll make it out of that battle alive. It's still likely he's going to die, and he's more than okay with dying for that cause, but now he might try to look forward to the possibility of surviving. Spending the rest of his days with his family, living and thriving, in some kind of normalcy.
Also there will be dogs. That's very important.]no subject
Hey, no problem. What are friends f-
[ Before he can quite finish saying the word for, the dream dissolves around the both of them, and Cisco's eyes are opening. His room is quiet, the glow-in-the-dark stars providing the only illumination. Before dawn, then. Still the middle of the night. Eddie's sleeping soundly, and Cisco is careful to be quiet as he reaches over to the nightstand, grabs his phone to text: ]
you gonna be ok, big guy?
no subject
for sure, my dude 👍
