( open ) get on board for perimeter guard shenanigans
who: Perimeter Guard members & visitors
what: a catch-all for routine Perimeter Guard stuff and shenanigans
when: throughout September
where: Perimeter Guard, beyond the wall, etc.
warnings: put any warnings in comment headers if need be!
[ This is a mingle log, so everyone feel free to write up your own starters, or just vaguely list out things your character might be up to, so other people know how they'd encounter them and where/how to engage. Some ideas for Perimeter Guard stuff:
• studying maps and working on map expansion;
• compiling wild animal data, reading/writing reports, other boring paperwork stuff;
• checking weaponry and devices, making repairs, etc.;
• going beyond the wall for a bit of surveying and exploration;
• checking out the shuttle currently being repaired (only Poe and Jim would actually be able to take it out for a test flight of any kind, but feel free to poke either of us if you'd like to thread that out!).
Go forth and have fun! ]

I have already, actually. Just a couple of times. I haven't gone too far, obviously, although she did handle the trip from the delta to the perimeter guard, and she was in much worse condition than now.
[ He'd repaired quite a lot, since then. He hoped the next time he took her out, she'd be much more stable. ]
If you'd like, we can go for a quick walk outside. Nothing too intense, just a couple of hours if you've got the time? After I show you around the guard.

[A few kilometers? Better yet, how long would the battery life last? Or did it run on fuel? More questions that she could save for another day.]
A walk is fine, I don't have much else to do today. [So Jim could take her time in showing her around if he wanted, whatever was most convenient for him.]

I'm not sure how far yet. Depends on how fast she can go on full capacity, or how long life support might last. I expect her to be able to handle a full trip around the moon at the very least. [ And beyond, too. Even past the atmosphere. But he didn't want to feed too many hopes until he was absolutely sure of how much the shuttle could handle. ]
Alright, then. Let's start with the facilities, I'll show you the briefing rooms, communal area, training area, armory, locker rooms, the like. Then we can head out for a bit. [ He nodded for her to follow after, as he started out across the guard for that quick tour. ]

And he would. Or at least, he's hoping to do it.] If everything is fully repaired, then it should be able to handle at least one trip. Though, if you test her out, are you thinking of only letting a few select people board her? [He couldn't take everyone from the Guard, that much was clear.]
Okay. [Well, there was more to this place than Rey initially thought. She stuck to Jim's side, taking in everything he said regarding each area. The Guard worked as its own little community, with something for everyone or at least it seemed that way.]

[ It can involve the abandoned city, but not always. Both of the missions Jim's led took him and his company nowhere near the abandoned city, for instance. ]
The shuttle is a good means of transport to get to the abandoned city faster, but I meant more than just that. Beyond the second wall, and all around the moon. Beyond the atmosphere, if she can handle it. [ He sounds almost like a proud dad for a moment, sure the shuttle will be able to handle that and much more.
For the next half hour or so, Jim shows Rey around the guard. It's something of a community within the Quarantine, although it is obvious that it's a place of work, with the people there all focused on their own tasks, missions and goals, personal or otherwise. Jim shows her around the main areas where she can find anything from maps, supplies, weaponry, and the like; there's also the shooting range, the training facilities, and the communal area where people seem to gather to kick back and relax, chat with each other, have a meal and the like.
It's obvious he's comfortable there, and at ease. He's been in the Quarantine a while, and he's been part of the guard for just as long, so he's taken some roots, unsurprisingly. ] So? What do you think?

[Rey is curious, but doubtful at the same time. What were the missions for? Just to scout out the area? Look for other useful items? The term mission makes her think of bringing a BB unit back to the Resistance. That mission changed her life. But missions were also part of being in a war, so then...
No, there wasn't a war. Jim looked to be too at ease about missions, and if there were enemy forces, surely something would've been mentioned during orientation. Then again, that would also assume Rey had been paying much attention.
Her focus shifts back to the shuttle, and it's obvious how proud Jim is of the shuttle. He and Poe put in a lot of work for it, and she had felt the same way with the ship she had repaired. It is something to be proud of, something to hold your head up high and know you fixed something with your own two hands. It's thrilling, and during that first take off...there's nothing like it.]
Have you thought about building other ships? Not something as big as the shuttle, but something to help with transportation? [Other ways to get around, more for ground work than taking off into the atmosphere.
She spends the next hour following Jim, taking in his words and looking over each area he shows her. A few areas caught her attention, maps for one and then weaponry. it seems to be Jim's home, or maybe second home if he already has a place somewhere else other than here. It oddly, reminds her of the Resistance Base. How people came together for a cause and worked together for it. How all these people came together to work, and created bonds in the process.
Could she be part of something like this? Possibly...it would help with earning her keep, but where would she fit in?]
It's interesting. More room than I've seen for an area, and everyone seems to get along. [She still weighing the idea of joining...] You think I'd do well here? [Not that she's seeking out his approval, but making sure she wouldn't be dead weight to a well functioning team.]

He also mentions how building any ships out of nothing, or even simpler vessels, is no easy task. He's fairly good at salvaging and repairing what he can find, but finding all the parts and assembling them all into a working ship is work for a considerably larger team, with the same knowledge background and a lot of experience. Jim honestly doesn't believe there are enough people here with the skills or means to make that happen. ]
Some get along more than others, but overall people avoid problems. With each other, I mean. It's fairly peaceful here, and most people are friendly and willing to help.
[ Jim shrugs at her question. ] I don't know. We haven't known each other for that long, so I couldn't tell you for sure. But given your experience, yes, I think you could be an asset. Ultimately, though, it's up to you to decide whether this is something that might interest you or not.
