( open ) get on board for perimeter guard shenanigans

who: Perimeter Guard members & visitors
what: a catch-all for routine Perimeter Guard stuff and shenanigans
when: throughout September
where: Perimeter Guard, beyond the wall, etc.
warnings: put any warnings in comment headers if need be!

[ This is a mingle log, so everyone feel free to write up your own starters, or just vaguely list out things your character might be up to, so other people know how they'd encounter them and where/how to engage. Some ideas for Perimeter Guard stuff:

• studying maps and working on map expansion;
• compiling wild animal data, reading/writing reports, other boring paperwork stuff;
• checking weaponry and devices, making repairs, etc.;
• going beyond the wall for a bit of surveying and exploration;
• checking out the shuttle currently being repaired (only Poe and Jim would actually be able to take it out for a test flight of any kind, but feel free to poke either of us if you'd like to thread that out!).

Go forth and have fun! ]

[There are two talents Ed is better at than most other things, with all the exploring he'd been doing map expansion and salvage & repair. Sure, he could fight and had skills that applied elsewhere on the Guard, but those were the main topics he tended to stick to whenever possible. Either task could be found both within the confines of the city and beyond the safety of the wall, for the more adventurous types.

Having done exploring even on his free time, Ed can easily be seen bent over a piece of paper trying to hunt down the exact location of his latest discovery. Whether jotting the information down quickly without allowing his guard to waver in the abandoned city, or putting together some material with more detail and accuracy while in the city proper. Although it was generally his preference to stick with what he was used to, there was also the chance to come across him using technology a tad more advanced to get his work done in forming and updating the maps.

In a similar fashion, repair work was hardly limited by location. Items that were brought in and needed repairing could be a quick fix for him, but it was just as likely to come across Ed putting something together right where he found it beyond the wall. As long as all the materials are readily available and the finished item wouldn't be too cumbersome to drag back on his own, someone might catch sight of him dropping to his knees with a quick clap and flash of blue light, transmuting whatever he had before him back to a previous undamaged state. After a moment he'll get up and test how durable the new find is once fixed up.]

(ooc note: Ed still looks 21, and if your character bumps into him outside of the wall, his automail may also be visible for fighting off monsters.)

Sorry, I went on an unexpected hiatus during the tail end of last month!

[ It was inevitable that Aoba would happen upon the unique talents of one of his teammates, and even though he's already seen incredible feats performed and abilities of the more overtly heroic of those in quarantine, he's still pretty normal. The flash of blue light has an expected reaction.

Aoba jumps nearly out of his skin, making an amazed sigh as he sees a heavily damaged item become restored whole. There's really only one thing he can conclude. ]

M-Magic?!

[ Close. ]

no worries! Same tbh.

[At first when he hears the exclamation Edward assumes it has nothing to do with him, after all there was plenty of magic going on around the Quarantine. When he glances up to see what might be happening though he catches sight of Aoba watching him intently rather than focused.... well, anywhere else.

Magic, sure. Ed sighs before offering a smile he hopes comes off more friendly than tired, the object in question forgotten as he turns his attention to Aoba curiously.]

Alchemy. Where I come from it's a science.

[He's ready for the argument, he hears them all the time - to the point he doesn't even bother to get mad anymore, it just wasn't worth trying to change a person's worldview.]

Alchemy?

[ That's... really not how it works in his world, but then again, he also has Virtual Reality, which he's quickly learned is NOT A THING among other worlds. So why wouldn't what appears to him as 'magic' turn out to be some other branch of science just like how virtual reality can appear to be miraculous to someone else?

Aoba settles, cautiously accepting this weirdness at face value. ]

No, I understand... it's just... it looks so different from my reality. Maybe your alchemy is something else from my reality?

[ At least he's not freaking out? ]
