[Open] Come away little light

who: Rey and OTA
what: Rey coming to the conclusion she would be here for sometime and CR building.
when: 9/16--9/20
where: Around town
warnings: None, will be updated as needed.

In the beginning, Rey was dead set on finding a way home. She wanted--no, needed to find a way back home. There were things she had to do. She had to find Luke, she had to give him his lightsaber and...hopefully, he would train her. Given her connection to the Force, she would need to be trained. There would come a time when she would face Kylo Ren again, and she had to be prepared, but now that she was stuck in this place. What would she do?

It had been a week or two since she came via portal to this place. A place that made no sense to her and one she wasn't willing to trust. Some viewed it as a second chance, a new home for themselves. While that was fine for them, she couldn't stay, but she couldn't leave either. Was this part of the Force? Obi-Wan said she had to learn to trust in it. The Force could be confusing, but there had to a be a reason behind it, right? Rey was contemplating that idea, letting it circle around in her head as she left the Communal Hall. If she was meant to be here, then maybe it was time for her to start looking for work?

She went into the city, her eyes flickering down to her phone every now and then. There were times when she was searching through it and the posts on the network, looking for answers..none came. If she was going to find work...what would she do? Jim had suggested she join the Perimeter Guard, but could she? She didn't exactly trust how things were being run here...but what other choice did she have?

Rey wasn't paying too much attention to where she was going until she stopped realizing she was at the park. She took a seat on a park bench and mentally ran through her options and what she would need to do to live in this new place.

"The culture I grew up with is very strict. They punish you if you don't fit certain roles and follow their rules. I'm different than their ideal so I could have lost my family if I didn't fit in." It wasn't the easiest way to explain it but it should work without having to go into the Law and the Clave's beliefs about Downworlders and same sex relationships. "Then I realized the rules didn't matter. You can't change certain parts of yourself and you shouldn't have to."

If she asked what had made him different, he'd tell her. He was married so he couldn't really hide that part of himself and he'd stopped wanting to deflect all attention away from him months ago.

"I think there were a couple floors that were empty when we were there." If they hadn't found the apartment at Lux, they probably would have all started migrating to those empty rooms. "It has to be different than living in a ship. Whatever you find here won't be the same, but sometimes we need something new to become who we're supposed to be. Maybe you'll find something that's better than the ship."

"No, they shouldn't, but it was a possibility." Without realizing it, Alec had begun playing with the heavy, silver ring on his finger. The wedding ring that could get him exiled if he returned home. "They could take more from me than that if they decided to punish me for breaking our Laws." Another reason to stay in Quarantine instead of returning home.

As he spoke, he realized that breaking the law might make him sound dangerous. "I married someone that they didn't approve of."

Gesturing at the bench, he silently asked if he could sit, waited for her to agree before moving. "Sometimes we don't realize what we need to learn or where we're supposed to be. I had my whole life planned. I assumed I knew where I was supposed to be. None of those plans included wars or love or having to fight to keep my family together. We don't really know what we need until we look back and realize what we've accomplished."

"I did. They don't approve of certain types of couples or marrying certain types of people." Alec had a few theories on the reasons behind it. At first it may have been to preserve the Nephilim since there had been so few of them in the beginning. There still were few of them left, but he doubted that was the reasoning now. The Clave and the older generations feared Downworlders and what they didn't understand. Better to keep isolated than deal with what would happen if people started marrying their 'enemies'.

"They may not punish me for it, but they would punish others for it." Stripping the runes from someone who stopped an apocalypse and fought in two wars would be difficult to explain. "I agree. It's a stupid law. It's one reason why I prefer it here."

Although Alec didn't know where she needed to be, he did understand some of what she was going through. "It is confusing and it takes time to get used to change. I hated it when it happened to me. I thought it'd destroy everything but eventually it taught us all to be better. It might be that there's lessons you need to learn here before you go back home."

"That's how we saw it, and how my family sees it, but - " Alec finished the sentence with a shrug. As long as they were here, they were relatively safe. No one here seemed to care that Alec was married to a man or that they weren't exactly Mundanes.

"Maybe those lessons are why you're here," he suggested, mostly thinking aloud. "Give you time to figure out what you need to learn and to learn it. If it's so important, then use the time to figure things out. I hated that kind of downtime, but it was needed. I don't think I would have been able to do everything that was necessary without it." He couldn't be sure if that was what was right for her, but it might be.

"You're welcome. I'm glad it helped. I'm Alec, by the way."
